PRE 8, no more crashes

I thought I would just share some positive news regarding PRE 8. I finally completed a 10 minute 720p HD video for upload to the web (input files from 2 cameras totalling approximately 4 hours of footage) where everything went smoothly... no hangs, no crashes.
The editing was done on a new PC that I just assembled which was optimized for video editing. I took all the lessons I learned from perusing this forum as well as from other sites when I built the new PC. Here is what worked for me:
1. O/S: Windows 7 Ultimate.
2. Video Editing Software: PRE 8 plus Quicktime install.
3. Hardware: Intel i7 860 CPU, 8 GB DDR3 1333 RAM, 3 x Western Digital Black HDD (1 for O/S and Apps, 1 for Project Files, 1 for Scratch files and O/S pagefile), Sapphire Radeon 5850 video card (using the latest WHQL drivers on ATI/AMD website).
4. Disabled Auto-analyzer and Organizer.
5. Disabled background rendering.
Since Windows 7 has all the CODECs needed to playback video, there is no need to install any CODEC/CODEC pack downloaded from the web. Also installing Quicktime appear to have solved the problem I had before where I need to transcode the video from my camera first to be able to load it to PRE8.
There are still some quirks such as the project intermittently "losing pointers" to previously rendered files when the project is re-opened but there are no more crashes and hang ups (knock on wood).
In summary and looking back, I believemost of the issues I encounter were the result 1 or all of the following:
1. Buggy drivers from Nvidia (I was using a GTX 260 video card in my older machine).
2. CODEC packs installed interfering with PRE8. These CODEC packs were installed years ago in order to be able to playback video on the PC.
3. Not installing Quicktime.
4. Buggy Auto-analyzer/Organizer. Turning this feature off appeared to speed up PRE8.
Hopefully this will help others who are still having issues with PRE8.
One final thing about my setup, it appears PRE8 is not using the GPU to assist the CPU even if I have that option checked under preferrences when rendering videos... the reason I say this is because the GPU temps does not appear to increase when I render videos for smooth previewing. Not a big deal so long as everything is stable.

The background rendering seemed to be the cause of my crashes, too, so I disabled that....it made no difference to the functionality of an obviously flawed program.  I have wasted too much time trying to figure out PE8's problems and get it operating with Windows 7.  This is the first time since starting back with PE1 that I've had any issues with PE or any of its upgrades (I've worked with 5 upgrades now).  I'm now shopping for a better, more stable program that can actually function with Windows 7.  This is really disappointing since I just spent $99 on the PE8 upgrade, but have been unable to produce anything with it (I had no choice but to upgrade since PE7 does not function with Windows 7....ha! neither does PE8).  Yes, this is just me venting and not contributing anything to this forum, but maybe someone from Adobe will catch on.
By the way, my system consists of the following:
          Windows 7 64 bit
          Intel Core i5 processor
1tb internal HD, several external HDs
          8gb RAM
NVidia GT230 with 196.21 driver update

  • 10.5.2 more crashes

Being cautious I waited until 10.5.2 to upgrade to Leopard.
I did an upgrade (ie not a clean) install to save time.
Since then the machine is a shadow of its former self. Where it could multi-task more than adequately under Tiger its now far slower. The beachball has become a far more common sight and I'm sending more crash reports then ever on Adobe and Apple applications.
I first got the machine pre-installed with 2GB of RAM and since I do a lot of graphics and video it wasn't really up to it at first. Since doubling the RAM it was a flyer - until I upgraded the OS which has brought it back down to the 2GB under Tiger speed.
That and my network drives don't appear on the left panel of the finder window like they used to (then again this could be a 'feature' as opposed to a bug).
Would a clean install fix any of this or should I just revert back to good old dependable Tiger...

Thanks for your help but I can't really spare any more time chasing my tail.
I've looked at similiar posts here and I have to say I'd be with the "My machine used to stable before the OS Upgrade and now if just isn't" brigade. I really do think that the new OS is of questionable stability and not worth the heartache and loss of productivity that may result.
The only surefire solution I can come up with is to downgrade to Tiger. Can't say I'll miss much about Leopard - Spaces I used for about 2 hours before turning it off; don't use Time Machine ;I will miss Quick Look but can't say its really worth all this.

  • Safari, iTunes, iPhoto, aim, software update, and more crashing when opened

I have an older MacBook, but the operating system and all the software is up-to-date. For some reason, out of the blue (didn't add any plugins, extensions, or download any new apps), safari started to crash every time that I tried to open it. In hunting around, I noticed that iTunes, iPhoto, Aim, software updates, and more crash in the same exact way. Firefox, Chrome, Quicktime, and microsoft office work fine. I went in and deleted all the plists and emptied the cache, but the problem persists. I also did a disk repair and reset the PRAM. I am able to use all of the above programs in a different user account though, so it has to be something with this specific user account and it's preferences. I just cannot figure it out. Any help would be fantastic. Here is the error message from safari:

  • PrE 4 Opens, Then Crashes When Project Loads

I realize that Premiere Elements 4 is old, but I still like and use it for all my projects. Here's my problem: I've been running PrE 4 for months on my new 64-bit Win 7 HP laptop, but only today it started going bonkers. It opens just fine, but when I open a project, it minimizes the PrE window as soon as it loads. Even though I've tried re-opening the window, it refuses to return to full screen.
I've tried compatibility to Vista and even XP, running under administrator priveleges, but to no avail. Is this a result of a newly-installed program or a virus? I'd love to get back to editing...

    Thank you for the info.
There is one thing that I need clarification on - do you mean that you can no longer Open a New Project, one that is empty? If so, then you can ignore the test below, though we might come back to that, if we can get PrE to Open a New Project.
When you say "raw AVI files," are these DV-AVI's, a particular form of AVI? This ARTICLE will give you more background on file formats.
You mention WMA Audio files. Like an AVI file, those can contain a lot of different stuff, but more on that in a moment.
With Win7-64, 4GB RAM is about what Win7 needs to run, and that does not leave a lot of excess for programs.
Now, Projects can become corrupted, or unstable, due to many things. Assets in a Project can become problematic. One way to test a Project for "bad" Assets is to make sure that PrE is closed, and then "hide" the Assets from PrE. As the Project file, the PREL, does not contain any of the Assets, but only follows absolute Paths to those Assets, this is farily simple. How one has structured their Assets folders can greatly simplify this task, or can cause a bit of work. It sounds as though your Project is pretty simple so far, and should not be difficult to follow these steps for testing:
With PrE closed, go to the folder(s), where the Assets are located, and Move the folder(s) elsewhere. Remember, the PREL uses absolute Paths,so that original Path will no longer apply. At this point, I would also separate Assets by type, say with Video files in a "Video" folder, Still Images in a "Stills" folder and Audio files in an "Audio" folder. You will see why in a moment.
Launch PrE, and Open the problem Project.
One will be confronted with a message dialog box, asking "Where is file ______?" Since we moved those Assets, we need to help PrE find them. Just navigate to the Moved folder, where that first Asset is located. The dialog screen offers a Finder, but since you Moved things, you should have that info handy. Locate the first file, that PrE is asking for.
Once you find it, PrE will do two things: establish the new link, and then look in that folder for any other Assets, used in that Project, and link to them also - pretty neat, eh?
Since we separated our Assets by type, if the first type, say Video, loads fine, we can rule those out. If the Project crashes here, we have found at least one problem.
When PrE comes to the next Asset, that dialog screen will reappear, and we will do the same thing - locate the file, that PrE is asking for, and again, PrE will re-establish the link to it, and search that folder for any more Assets. If all goes well, we can probably rule out those Assets as an issue.
This will repeat, until either the Project loads, or until the Project crashes, or hangs. If that happens, we have narrowed things down to one Asset type. This is why we separated them - it makes troubleshooting Assets much easier. Note: Titles are written in XML code, in the PREL, so nothing tangible exists for them, at this point.
Whatever you do, do NOT choose Save, and especially if you decide to Skip Media, or Cancel. Only do a Save_As,so as to NOT overwrite your original PREL. Never overwrite an original PREL, if you are having issues.
Please report on this test. Does the Project fail with a particular Asset type? If so, what is that Asset type?
If you have quite a few Assets of that particular type, you can redo the test, by moving, say half of those Assets again, and running the test again. If the Project crashes with either the first half, or the second, you are getting closer.
    Good luck,

  • Crashes, graphics glitches, and more crashes when editing video clips

Can't for the life of me figure out why PE keeps crashing on me, so I'm here for help.
My system consists of a i7-970 hexacore, 6GB ram, 1x 500GB os drive, 3x500gb raid 0 drives (this is where my video clips are stored), 2x GeForce GTX460 video cards.
OS is Windows 7 Profressional 64 bit.
The video files I work with are generally in the 50-200GB size.
A little background - the videos that I am working with are recordings from Battlefield Bad Company 2 that I have recorded with some capture software called Dxtory.
I record at 1920x1080 at 60 FPS to avi files.  The avi files are using the "xtor" codec (Dxtory's own codec)
    [ISFT]    DxtoryCore ver2.0.0.101
[ISRC]    Video:YUV420 Audio:Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Audio is PCM 192000Hz recorded in stereo.
Let me start by saying I have not had trouble with this before until I started recording the videos at 60 FPS.  30 FPS worked ok (some crashes here and there, but they were bearable), but the frequent crashes started happening when I started working with the 60 FPS videos, done mainly so I could play around with slowing the clips down, etc.
Sometimes I can open and edit clips just fine.
Recently, a project that I'm working on is crashing when I try putting two different clips from different files together on the time line.  I managed to get it to work once, and saved the project after that.  Then, PE crashed randomly and when trying to reopen the project, it just crashes and won't let me get any further.
I should mention the graphics glitches as well - occasionally (especially when previewing video clips before adding them to the timeline) after I close the preview window, the graphics in PE will glitch out, causing random lines to appear in certain areas, graphics to stack on top of eachother and freeze up, and sometimes I can click on the "play" button in the main project window and hear everything start playing, but the graphics are completely screwed up to the point where I can't view the video or hit the pause button.
All of my computer hardware is fine, all drivers, and PE, are up to date.
Can someone please help me figure out what is going on?  I'll be happy to provide any more information that might help out.

The most likely issue is the codec that your program is using the create your video. It's apparently not compatible with Premiere Elements.
This often happens also when people try to record their on-screen video with FRAPS.
You'll see lots of discussions on this issue in the Premiere Pro forum. However, it's even more pronounced in Premiere Elements, which is designed to work almost exclusively with camcorder video.
Some video programs are a little more versatile with this type of video. Some people have found Corell's Video Studio better at handling these non-traditonal formats.
But I did a Google search on Dxtory editing and couldn't find any information on it.
Sorry I can't offer a solution. But I can pretty much assure you that Premiere Elements isn't it. sorry.

  • Lion... Apple's Vista. More crashes then my other Mac's together

I'm getting seriously fed up with this piece of crap. Apple don't give a toss (no replies to emails) and errors that have been around for months are being completey ignored. Right, now that's off my chest...
A couple of months back, my Macbook Air began reporting crashes every few minutes. With hind sight, I realised that the errors began with the well known 'Preview' error. It began with "Core Services UI Agent" crashing unexpectedly. The Preview error involved having deleted an image, if I went past where the image had been, Preview crashed. For example, If I was viewing Picture1 & Picture2 in Preview, if I deleted Picture2 while looking at Picture1, when I tried to move to Picture3, it crashed. It was after a few crashes in quick succesion, the 'Core Services' started to appear, then "UnmountAssistantAgent" began quiting frequently.
A few minutes later, the whole machine crashed and refused to re-boot.
Lion had to be rebuilt at an Apple store.
Today, I tried to open a PDF. Preview crashed. I tried again, crashed again.
Then along came the Core Services and now UnmountAssistantAgent quit unexpectedly. I feel like it is only a matter of time before the machine goes down again. This Air has crashed more than my ancient Macbook did in five years, and my Snow Leopard iMac has never crashed. Any ideas, other than back it up, send it back, and buy a PC that works and costs a quarter of the amount? (Can you tell I'm frustrated?)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Pre Elem 8.0 Crashes Every Time I Open Existing or Create New Project

I am a novice user of Adobe Premiere Elements 8.01
    HP Pavilion Elite
Running Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64 bit), Service Pack 1
    8.0 GB physical memory
    1 TB internal drive
    2 TB external drive
    500 GB external drive
Video Card ATI Radeon HD 5570
Until recently I was having no problems using PE 8.0.  Then several issues began.
PE started crashing anytime I would access the organizer.
When trying to import any .avi file longer than 40 minutes from my computer's hard drive, PE would hang and not complete the "conforming" operation.  I could no longer use PE until I deleted the media causing the issue and restarted the application.  As long as I worked with shorter duration .avi files, I had no problems.
This morning I attempted to import 6 .avi files from my computer's hard drive.  The largest file was 789kb.  As the conforming operation was in progress on the first file, the application crashed.  Now if I open any existing project or try to create a new project the application crashes.  In other words I cannot use the application at all.
My first inclination is to uninstall/reinstall PE 8.0 but since the application will not stay up, I cannot disable the serial number so that I'll be able to reactivate the product when I reinstall it.  Would a reinstall even be likely to correct the problem?
    How should I proceed?

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, you have posted to the Tip & Tricks Forum, and few will see your post here. I will try to have it moved to the main PrE Forum.
I would start with this ARTICLE, which begins with a checklist on getting PrE setup on one's computer. It then goes into steps to tuneup the computer, and OS, and finishes with many links to help one troubleshoot issues.
    Good luck,

    Hi,
You must have an OS 10.5 for the pre to work and the data must be inside ICAL and ADDRESSBOOK... Those are the minimum requirement.
If you want you data to transfer then try using the cool feature of the phone that is synergy.. Just export and import you ical and addressbook info to you google/gmail account then setup the google on the PRE...

  • More Crashing Issues

I posted this on September 12th, and concluded I needed a new power supply.
I purchased an Enermax EG475P 470W PSU, since that seemed to be the likely conclusion of my problems.
I went from my old PSU with these specs:
Ultra ATX Switching 400W, Model #WIN-400PS
    +3.3V = 15.0A
    +5V = 30.0A
    +12V = 17.0
    -5V = 0.6A
    -12V = 0.6A
    +5VSB = 2.0A
    To these specs:
    Enermax EG475P 470W
    +3.3V = 34A
    +5V = 40A
    +12V = 33A
I am still getting the crashes that I explained in my first thread.
Before buying the new PSU I had tried everything I knew to do.  When I got these crashes even after installing the new PSU, someone told me to try underclocking my card to see if it might be a heat issue.  I underclocked it more than 10%, with no changes.
It isn't a CPU heat issue either; I ran Motherboard Monitor 4 while stress-testing with a game and the temperature never went past 61C.  That isn't ideal, I know, but I read threads on this board from people saying their Prescotts are running 70C, 80C, or even higher.  According to Speedfan, my four case fans are all running at 100% RPM.  At idle, the case temperature is 34C.  Under load, it never goes past 37C.
I don't really know what to do.  Any ideas?
    Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8GHz HTT w/ 800MHz FSB
    MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR motherboard (BIOS ver. 3.8)
    2x512MB Kingston PC3200 DDR SDRAM @ 400MHz
    Maxtor 6Y120M0 120GB HDD
    Diamond Viper Radeon 9600XT 256MB (Catalyst 4.9s)
Creative SB Live 5.1 (driver ver. 5.14)

I included them in my first post, but here they are anyway.
    Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8GHz HTT w/ 800MHz FSB
    MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR motherboard (BIOS ver. 3.8)
    2x512MB Kingston PC3200 DDR SDRAM @ 400MHz
    Maxtor 6Y120M0 120GB HDD
    Diamond Viper Radeon 9600XT 256MB (Catalyst 4.9s)
Creative SB Live 5.1 (driver ver. 5.14)
    Enermax EG475P 470W
    +3.3V = 34A
    +5V = 40A
    +12V = 33A
    And here's the problem:
    Quote
Sometimes it will crash as I described in the other thread, the video and sound locks up, nothing responds, have to hit power button.
Other times it does something different. For example, while playing BF1942, when the server changes maps, each client does a CD check during which my screen resolution changes to some low resolution, then back to normal resolution (which is 1280x960x85, btw). Every few times* it does this, my system restarts itself. Back to the POST screen. My computer restarts normally after this happens. When I get back to Windows, I get a popup message saying "Windows has recovered from a serious error. Please send an error report, blah blah." I got these crashes before upgrading my PSU as well, but thought that the PSU was causing it. I thought that the resolution changes + CPU load from loading a new map was putting too heavy a load on my system, which my cheap PSU couldn't handle, and thus shut itself down. But these crashes are continuing after upgrading to a PSU which should be able to handle just about anything.
*It isn't a consistent pattern. Sometimes it will restart during the first map change. Other times it works fine for four or five or six times, then it will crash.
I also listed the Blue Screen error message in this thread too.  You sure you read the right thread?

  • Still more crashing iCal- can anyone help?

Help! I’m suffering the crashing iCal syndrome. It started either early this week or last week when I used automatic software update to update from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10 (and the included security update). iCal version is 2.0.5.
I sync iCal to a few iPods, and a Motorola Razr phone. I do not use .mac.
Computer is iMac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo w/ 2 GB RAM.
I have scanned the forums here and based on the advice, here is what I have done:
    Fixed duplicate fonts
Deleted the iCal.plist files (under user/library/Perferences)
Deleted the iCal Caches folder (under user/Library/Caches/iCal)
Deleted the iCal folder (under user/library/Application Support)
    Restarted system
I have repeated this process (or portions of process) countless times over the past week.
iCal continues to crash. I had copied over original iCal folder to our MacBook, (running 10.4.9) and everything works perfectly. It just will not work on the iMac. I can’t update the MacBook software until iCal works again on the iMac (my primary system).
If I put the original iCal folder back, it syncs OK and I can view my activities on my iPod.
Anyone have any ideas I have not already tried???

    David,
I am also using a Razr (V3i version) and am synchronising iCal calenders and contacts with iSync using bluetooth and a .mac account.
After resetting Sync History and iCal reverting to a working state, during the next sync (1st after iCal fix) with my V3i, iSync crashed (at the exact point where it was beginning to sync with the V3i).
For me I reopened iSync and it worked perfectly on my next sync.
However, as iSync is the most likely culprit, I would suggest the following;-
Reset iSync, sync history again and attempt another sync... If you get the same result I would attempt the following;-
    (1) Remove the Razr from the list of sync devices within iSync.
    (2) Reset iSync sync history once more.
    (3) Quit iSync -> reopen iSync -> add the Razr as if it is a new sync device.
    (4) Attempt another sync.
    Good Luck!

  • Merging Itunes folders pre and post computer crash

I need to figure out how to merge my itunes folder pre-hard drive crash (i was able to retrieve my itunes folder) and post hard drive crash, then I need to put the merged file on my external hard drive or on my mac. Itunes is currently taking of 1/2 of the hard drive space on my pc (40 GB), so it needs to be moved.

    Try this

  • More beachballs than Bondi, more crashes than a demolition derby

So, dear Apple, I switched to Mac a few years ago. Been telling all my friends of your wonders. Stable, I said; good well-tested software, I said. I lied because you lied.
Final Cut Pro X is an abortion of a product. Oh, of course, it must be my set-up, mustn't it?
Well, everything else works ok.  That is until FCPX starts and defecates all over my machine's guts.
It hics and hups and jumps and weirds out like there's no tomorrow. Complaints are all over the forums, many of them from people with high-end hardware relying on it as a tool for their work.  God help them.  I just upgraded to a new iMac 27 with extra everything and a Thunderbolt screen just to have a good basis for hobbying on FCPX.  If I'm annoyed, they must be livid. And rightly so.
FCPX makes Microsoft look like Emperors of Software. That's how low you've sunk with this.
You should be ashamed to have thrown out this substandard bilge.
What are you doing about it?
The March release just screwed up a few existing projects; besides that I can't see any improvement.
I think your whole background rendering processing is the main culprit.  SORT IT OUT.

No use ranting at Apple here, this is a user forum - you need to send in feedback via the FCP X app.
Meanwhile, I expect there are many things you can address to help your unfortunate situation.
This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance.
Make sure you're using the latest version - FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.3.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on the Hard Drive that your System and your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Check the spec of your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
Create Optimised media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
If you are short of drive space, use ProRes 422 Proxy (FCP X Preferences > Playback) - but remember to select High Quality when you export your movie.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot.
Move your Projects and Events to an external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

  • ICal, Mail, Adress book and more crashes upon launch

This morning I tried to open iCal, it crashed immedialtly. A window opened asking me to restore my window. Did'nt have time to click yes, the app is gone.
I trashed preferences and plists, restart computer, no amelioration.
Then tried to open Mail after restard and it does the same thing (it was working fine before retart). It offered me to retore window then it closed.
    Same with Adress Book.
Then I opened my system preferences, click on Mail, contacts and calendar, System prefs crashes.
Tried to open iCloud in syst. prefs, it also crashed (all other items in syst. prefs do not crash).
Repaired permissions (just in case) but everything still crashes.
I have no clue to what to do next... can someone help me with this?
    Thank's

Create a new User go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account Did he have you try try starting up in Safe Mode and test.
(It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not Copy & paste this is your "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library
Then go to/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the Desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, moveUsers/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.

  • More Crashes After 1.1.3 Update

I have updated to 1.1.3 and now my Touch seems to crash more than ever. It's crashed using Safari, Maps, even today switching between podcasts and playlists.
The problem is more than an inconvenience for me as when it crashes all music playcount info gets lost. Becuase of the limited space on the Touch, I heavily use live updating smart playlists. Well today I listened to music all day while at my desk from the smart playlist, then listened to a podcast. When I tried switching back to playlists, it went back to Home screen and al the songs that had been removing themselves from the playlist earlier in the day based on last played info, had appeard back into the playlist meaning I had to listen to the same music again. When I got home and synced to ITunes I do indeed see that all last played info for the day was lost.
It seems like this may be a memory issue. Is there a way to clear the memory usage periodically. Should I actually turn off the device regularly rather than just let it go to sleep. Does this make a difference?

Thanks for the delete direction help (thank you) and that way works for getting a second set of directions. The only time under 1.1.3 that Google maps "Route" function worked for me was for driving instructions from (Start) Apple in California a nine hour trip to "Me" location from contacts. Any other "Route" instructions I request return an error message "Driving instructions could not ..." Maybe a pin location problem (not on a street)

My phone is lock because i prees wrong password for more than 10 times. I can open my phone what should i do?

Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons on iPhone until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware. At the end Restore from your iTunes Back-Up or use iCloud to get your data back.
