My problem is that 'updates' is greyed out and not clickable??!""
Any hlep appreciated

PS Driver updates have not worked.

Someone on this forum mentioned that turning off McAfee solved his problem
with PE8.  That suggestion is buried somewhere on this forum and I ran across it in desparation after installing PE8 on my girlfriend's computer.
Hunt (on this forum) recommends one should NEVER use real-time scanning when one is video-editing.  He is right.  Turn it off and don't connect to the net either.   It's best to reboot your computer, turn off the scanning, and close other system tray items (if possible) and then use PE8.
I would also recommend looking for the PE .EXE (there are two) and making a shortcut to the one that is not that start-up screen.   It's best to go right into the program.
Cheers,
Peter

    Please follow the mentioned steps:

Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

  • Almost all iChat menu options greyed out; can't use iChat this way

iChat was working just fine until a few days ago. Now it only shows the following menu items:
iChat--> My Status, Accounts, Services, Hide iChat, Hide others, Quit iChat
    File--> Open, Recent items
Edit--> Find, Spelling, Insert Smiley, Special Characters
View--> Buddy names, Sort buddies, Messages
Buddies --> (None not greyed out)
    Audio-->(None not greyed out)
    Format-->Show fonts, show colors
    Window-->(None not greyed out)
I have looked at others' advice to this poster and tried deleting the .plist files, but this didn't seem to help at all. Does anyone have any other ideas as to where to start?
I suspect the trouble may have started after I installed the latest system updates.

If you have no access to the Preferences in iChat and the Accounts do not show in the iChat Menu > Accounts or in the Window Menu for the KeyStrokes they the answer is to redo the FAQ stuff particularly the Deletion of the .plists nad the Force Quitting of iChatAgent.
If you have Preferences Access and No Buddies in the Buddy List (or they are greyed out if you show Off Line Buddies) go to the iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts > Security tab and check the Block list is Not Active with all your Buddies in the list.

  • P67-a-g45 vt-d tech option greyed out can't enable

    Hello,
I received the MSI p67a-g45 today and I cannot enable the vt-d tech option in the BIOS (it is greyed out and I cannot select it to enable it).  I just updated it to the latest BIOS version from the MSI website.  I would like to use the vmware esxi 4.1 passthrough feature but it says that the host is not supported and I need to enable this feature.  Does anyone have any ideas how to enable this feature on this board?
    Thanks for any help.

Depends on the 2xxx series CPU you have selected.

  • Moving iPhoto to external drive; have formatted external disk to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), moved the iPhoto library to external drive; when trying to change the library, the iPhoto file on new external is greyed out   can't be selected. What went wrong?

    Must have done something wrong..
    1.  formatted external disk to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - required a partition, but that went fine.  Entire new external disk was included in the partition formatted to Mac OS Extneded (journaled).
    2.  moved iPhoto library to new external disk
    3.  Holding Option key down, opened iPhoto
    4.  Choose library feature appeared, however when new library function option appeared and "choose library" selected, the iPhoto folder appearing in the new external drive was greyed out and not able to be selected.  Therefore the default library remains the original iphoto library on the Mac.
I've moved the original iphoto library to the trash and then tried to start iPhoto.  A message comes up that the iPhoto is in the trash and needs to be pulled out before iPhoto can start (clearly the new iphoto library on the external drive is not being seen.
Can anyone suggest where I went awry?  Thanks!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    Then try select it again.

  • Photoshop CS3, wanting to batch re-size JPGs, going: file-scripts-image processor, the batch images are greyed out can't be highlighted

Hi - I am trying to batch re-size JPGs in CS3.  I go: file-scripts-image processor and select a batch of JPGs but these are greyed out and can't be highlighted, therefore can't be re-sized. This function worked in the past and suddenly does not. Reading forums on this topic I find I should remove/trash 'Photoshop Preferences'. But I am struggling to find Photoshop Preferences. Really would appreciate simple instructions written for the layman not a computer savvy individual, on how/where to locate these, please. Many thanks.

    A few things to try.
1)Since jpg's are finiky with bit modes, make sure your mode is in 8-bits per channel only. (found in the image>mode menu)
2)you could try resetting the preferences by using the 3 modifier keys at startup. ctrl-alt-shift(windows) cmd-opt-shift(mac) Hold these three keys down when you start photoshop if done right when photoshop starts you should get a dialog box asking if you want to reset the preferences)
3)If these do not help specify the version of photoshop, what OS you have and its version. Then someone can tell you the location of the preference files since it is different on windows vs. a mac.

  • Itunes greyed out; can't play on computer

Got a new computer. Went to iTunes and discovered my purchased tunes were in bold. I could see all imported tunes on my ipod but they were greyed out. Did a little research and discovered this is to prevent music pirating but there is a work around for legitimate purposes. So I transferred all the music from my ipod to my PC. (I dragged the ipod music folders into the Windows Media Player). I played a couple of them and it seemed all was going well. then I went to iTunes to see what was going on there. I couldn't find any music, purchased or imported without going to the ipod. All the songs were there but greyed out. Now I can't even play them on the computer. I get a message," Window Media Player cannot find the file." As it stands now I can't do anything with my music on iTunes ( play, move songs, create playlist, etc) or on my computer. Fortunately I didn't screw up my ipod, but of course I can't rearrange anything on it without first doing it on iTunes and the syncing.

    Any help here?

  • Home Folder greyed out/Can't access home folder

I'm completely unable to view my home folder after a fresh install of mountain lion.  I copied my user folder over and created a new user based on that folder.  As you can see it will only show me the large home icon instead of my column view.  It is able to be accessed from other views however... it's not consistent.  There seems to be a huge finder issue with this user.  I've also made a test user and everything over there works fine so it's only on this side.
Here is what it looks like from the other user:
Still greyed out... I've tried everything from help from genii at the store to friends who know UNIX well, I've reset ACLs and repaired permissions ot no avail.  If you have any ideas for me please lemme know and I'll try them.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Itunes music and ipod music are greyed out, can't click them why?

I have about 2,400 songs and only 5 of them i can click and listen on my new ipod touch 5g. i have itunes the newest one, and most of the songs are greyed out also on itunes. so i cant play them on itunes and my ipod. what the ****? i usually download music and drag the file to itunes and also drag it to a folder where i keep all my song files incase it ever needs a "locate file". When i click sync it syncs the music but when it says a song can't be read or written it stops the entire sync process. What do i do?

Do all the songs play in iTunes? If so then:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Nike   iPod settings greyed out (can I fix without doing complete restore???)

I don't want to do a full restore, I've done soft reset, and restored from backup.

The thread title differs from the original post, sorry for the confusion.  I read password instead of passcode.
The only way past a passcode lock is by entering the passcode.  Refer to HT1212 iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen:
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
As for timing out during the restore...
If there isn't any antivirus or firewalls in the way, I would try restoring from a different user account or even a different computer.  If still unable to restore without timing out, I would try a different network.

  • DELETE option is greyed out - can't drop songs

I've moved to a Windows 7 box. My iTunes has the DELETE option shaded and I cannot delete a song from the libraries. Th eright-click option doesn't even show up.
    I have un-installed and re-installed twice. It's ano-go.
    Is there a fix?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Solved it myself.
Here is the accidental solution to this undocumented error.
To DELETE a song use the SHIFT-DEL combination of keys and highted songs will be deleted from the library.
Hold SHIFT and DELETE together - where is THAT written? Come on, I stumbled across that by using a random set of keys.
