PrE 9 Crashing

I got a canon vixia hf m41 avchd camera last year and bought PrE9 for editing. I took 4 hours of video on a trip to Madagascar and edited it and made a dvd with no problems. I am currently working on an other batch of video and I keep getting the 'windows encountered a problem' message and the program crashes. The only difference between the two projects is I shot the madagascar video using the fxp setting in the camera and the current video using the slightly higher quality mxp setting. The only difference I can find between them is that the latter uses 24mbs bitrate and the former 17mbs. Thanks to the many contributors to this forum I was able to determine that there are no problems with the codecs. The project setting (hd 1080) and files match. I ran event viewer and found the following,
Faulting application Adobe Premiere Elements.exe, version 9.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4d01cdbb, faulting module atioglxx.dll, version 6.14.10.6747, time stamp 0x46aff59c, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x003a8338, process id 0x1a40, application start time 0x01cd2d2c2d48f760.
I googled atioglxx.dll and found some info on fixing problems with this file. This site,   http://www.topregistrysolutions.com/dll.php?cd=AWCreg129 ,has a download for fixing atioglxx.dll problems but  I don't like to use this type of site unless I'm sure of it. The following are my computer specs, (is there a way to include them in my signature).
DELL XPS 420, VISTA HOME PREMIUM, INTEL CORE2 QUAD CPU Q6600@ 2.4 GHZ, 3GB MEMORY, 320 GB HARD DRIVE, 1.5 TB 2ND DRIVE, ATI RADEON HD2600XT GRAPHICS CARD. So I guess my question is, could the higher bit rate be causing a problem. Or did I develope a problem with the atioglxx file between the two projects or is there anything else I could check.

My Premiere V9 software on my Vista PC is 9.0.1... : did you get the sotware updates from Adobe for your
Premiere Elements ? It seems you are at 9.0.0.
I am not sure it could solve your issue, but it seems important to be at the good software level.
Second point : I personnaly use HDV and DV formats mainly, but I have read that PR Elements V9 does not
support all HD levels, as 50p (what we have in Europe corresponding to the 60p US), although 50i is
fully supported. Is there a link with the fxp/mxp settings ?

  • HELP!  Pre is crashing when I try to delete clips - project due in 4 hrs

I have a 20 min SD video that I need to cut down to 10 minutes - I am trying to remove clips from the beginning of the project, but after I delete 1 clip, pre crashes - what to do??  Eric

Sorry I was a little sleepy - I'm using Windows 7 Steve.  Yes I have the latest version of quicktime - yes my camcorder downconverts HDV to SD and what I meant by "playback" was that I have to play the files into the computer versus a hard drive camcorder.  What I was trying to do was delete out about 10 min of video from a 20 minute project and PRE keeps crashing.  I have no problems trimming clips.  In any case, ATR and Bill Hunt directed me to a program called "clipmate" and that worked for me with ATR's workflow on a previous thread about copying clips from project to project.  Project is done   It's hunting season here in South Dakota and I'm going to have a lot of projects to work on and I don't need software that crashes regularly, but maybe the "software crash" is a common problem in the videography world....?  Thanks, Eric

  • PRE 8 crashes and closes

I opened a Project -Lesson 01 in PRE* Classroom in a book. I loaded all the AVI files in the project as instructed in the book. I got a message that system resources are low and I saved the project. I was looking at Properties (Windows/Properties) when the Pre8 crashed and closed and I got the crash report form. This happened twice. I have a 3.4ghz Pentium 4 with 2gb of ram and 90gb of hard disk and I am running Windows xp sp3 Professional

There is a different forum specifically for Premiere Elements at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premiere_elements
I recommend that you post your question there, People participating on that forum may not have the Classroom in a Book book available to be specific about that exercise. However they can assist you in analyzing why you might be getting the System Resources are Low message. It might be something in the configuration of your system - especially if you are just starting and have no previously completed successfully Premiere Elements projects.

  • Pre 7 crashes when opening v2 project file

    Hi,
I upgraded to v7 from v2 a few months ago.  For the most part things have been going fine, but when I recently tried opening a project file I had worked on in v2 I got the following error:
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.
Not too helpful mind you.  I still had v2 installed, so I tried opening it in there and it worked.  So that kind of ruled out a corrupt file.  I searched forums and contacted support, and not much help there.  I tried deleting parts of the timeline and re-saving in v2 but I still couldn't open in v7.  I finally removed the DVD menus, and surprise it opened in v7.  I investigated further, and it appears that since v3 DVD menus are named with _pal_ whereas in v2 there were ntsc and pal versions of each menu (I've been using ntsc).  Also, I opened up the .prel project in notepad, and came across the DVDLayoutTree node and its version attribute is "3" for v2 file and "4" for v7 file.  I modified the attribute to "4", and was able to open the project in v7 however it did not show any DVD menus.  I suspect I also should have renamed the _ntsc_ file references to _pal_.  In any event the project did load, and it's a simple matter to reset the DVD menus.  This hacking should probably be a last resort as its probably safer to remove the DVD menus in the older Pre and then open it in Pre v7.  Anyway, just a tip for others if they run into this problem.  Much easier than re-installing Pre7 or junking the project file and starting from scratch.
    Take care
    Marc

Hi, thanks for the response.  The project was actually finished in v2, but I wanted to open it in v7 as a reference.  I don't want (and shouldn't) have to keep all previous versions of the software installed on my system so that I may be able to open project files. Most software programs I work with are backwards compatible or provide some means of upgrading files to newer format.  Can you imagine how things would be if Word Doc format became unusable with each MS Word release?  :-)
In this particular case, Pre7 shouldn't be crashing like it is.  Ideally, it should recognize a previous version project file and either update it automatically or drop features no longer supported (with some message to the user or log file generated).  The error message is ambiguous at best and pretty useless as it didn't really help in identifying the root cause of the problem.  This is likely the result of some uncaught exception when the program parses the .prel project file and finds an element attribute it doesn't expect (version "3" instead of "4").

  • Pre 9 crashes while importing.

I've imported numerous different files into pre 9 and they all worked until today. Now it randomly crashes every time I try to import video. I am trying to import AVCHD footage. I have the raw footage as well as converted to .avi. They both playback perfectly, but adobe crashes every time I import.
This error message now comes up for any clip I import.
    Win 7
    Intel core i5 2.53 ghz x2
    4GB ram
    350 GB free HD space
    128 MB intel HD graphics

Did you purchase the computer from a company, or did you have it build specifically for you by a shop?
First, a computer from Dell, Gateway, HP, et al, will likely have tons of bloatware, that gets in the way. Also, few companies will tune the OS, and everyone gets all features turned ON.
The audio & video drivers are also probably way out of date, as the install disks were probably written months ago. Likely that those will need updating.
With Win7-64, 4GB of RAM is just about what it takes to run the OS. When one tries to use programs, like PrE, there is not much left for the program. I am surprised that you do not have at least 12GB of RAM.
    Good luck,

  • Pre 9 - Crash, Crash, Crash, Crash, Crash

Pre 9 is crashing, without warning, more than I can handle. I'm using a brand new iMac 3.2. The crashes at times can happen within minutes of each other. Seems most of the time it is happening while working in the timeline. Right now, I'm spending more time rebooting the program and submitting the error report than working in the program.
Any bugs, ideas, fixes or users with the same problem?

  • Adobe Pre 9 crashes when I share the video to youtube?

Hi, I've had this problem since I had Adobe Pre 8. Whenever I fill out the forms to send the video to youtube, once I hit the final share button, the whole program shuts down on me. I reinstalled Adobe Pre 8, then it still did it. So, I installed Adobe Pre 9 instead, hoping this would be fixed. It still does the same thing.
As far as I can see, there are too many bugs and unreliable traits in adobe premiere elements programs... I really wish they'd fix them so their customers wouldn't have to just infinitely troubleshoot.
If you know how to fix this, thanks.

What is your operating system? Have you manually gone to Windows Update to ensure you have even the non-critical updates? Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime?
Have you cleaned and defragmented your drive(s) in the last week? How much free, clean, freshly defragmented space is on your C drive? If you're editing off another drive, is it formatted NTFS rather than FAT32, as they come from the factory?
What type of camcorder is your original video coming from? Which settings did you select when you set up your Premiere Elements project? When you project settings match your source video precisely, you will not see red lines above the video clips on your timeline until you add effects to them. Is this the case in your situation?
If you're working with photos, have you ensured that they are all no larger than 1000x750 pixels?

  • PRE 8 Crashes when exporting

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your post on exporting videos in mov format (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2759311#2759311). However, when I follow these instructions, elements 8 crashes on me. Any idea what causes this or how I can prevent this?
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

It could be your source footage. It could be a mismatch between your source footage and your Premiere Elements project settings. It could be a bug or an out-of-date driver or an out-of-date operating system. It could be a problem or lack of resource in your hardware.
You haven't given us enought information that we an even speculate. Sorry.

This is what will cause the site to crash if it does.  If everybody just keeps their cool everything should be fine.
But of course, most people won’t.

  • PRE 8 Crashes when i render it to mpeg pal dvd standard

    Hello
System configuration : core i7 with intell DX58SO mother board with 4 gb ram and 512 mb NIVIDA Qudra fx580
Pls help me with the problem when ever i render my project to a DVD or to a MPEG  PRE8  crashes and my system switches off
have anybody got this type of problem and wht is the solution

When a system shuts down, the most likely cause is hardware. Here is how those hardware issues usually pan out:
1.) heat buildup in CPU, or the HDD's
    2.) RAM going bad
3.) Power Supply either going bad, or undersized, or improperly connected to the rails of the computer
    4.) MoBo going bad
This ARTICLE will link you to a bunch of tools to try and troubleshoot hardware issues, and more.
Another issue, also hardware related is when there is not enough HDD space to complete the Export/Burn. Note: what seems like a lot of HDD space, can be instantly filled up. There are first working files created, to be used in the editing. When one goes to Burn, those files are accessed, and then other large AV files are written to the HDD. These are later combined and used to create the VOB's in the DVD structure. Some of those files are then Deleted, but until they are, they WILL take up a lot of space. Also, unless one has about 24GB or RAM, it is likely that the Windows Page File will be involved, and it may grow quite large during the process.
How much defragmented, free space to you have on your HDD's, and how do you have those allocated?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Adobe PRE 7 Crashes repeatedly (DEP)

Data execution prevention keeps closing PRE7 saying that it is a threat. It only happens when I go to effects/transitions in the edit menu. I am baffled to why this happens, because in the past PRE7 worked just fine. I've tried everything: I put PRE7 in the exceptions list to DEP (data execution prevention), I tried reinstalling PRE7, I tried repairing it, I put it in the exceptions on my firewall, and everything else...
What could be causing this problem?
    Thanks

Great news! As different mfgrs. do their drivers differently and differently by model, the installation schemes can vary. Maybe you had a bad, or partial installation first time around. As I just did my nVidia Quadro yesterday, I noticed that there were several installation schemes, depending on just what one had installed and how they had it set up. For me, it was just a straight installation, but for others, with the same card, they'd have to disable several modules, move some ini files around and do it totally differently, than I did.
    Good luck,

  • CAD u37 external mic causes PrE 13 to Crash

I just purchased a CAD u37 condenser mic for use with PrE 13. I am using a MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. Each time I try to add a narration, PrE 13 crashes. It just immediately shuts down. I tried the CAD u37 with iMovie, and it works perfectly, so I know the microphone is working well. I have configured the settings in Apple as follows: System Preferences>Sound>USB;  and in PrE 13 as follows: Preferences>Audio>USB device. Can anyone help with this issue? Thanks.

There is no Transitions Adjustment dialog or other involved in this placement way.
Also, expand the Timeline content with the -+ slider above the Timeline so that you can see the transitions.
I did not bother to Timeline render after the transitions were applied so the orange line above each.

  • Pre9 Crashes and Memory

    Hello,
I am 90% done with a video that is about 20 minutes long. It contains video and photo images. I cannot complete the project because PrE keeps crashing I believe due to memory. My machine is XP with 4GB RAM.
I took the steps recommended. All my photos have been reduced to 1000X750, then placed in a slideshow (from Organizer). I reset my virtual memory to settings 4GB and 8GB (max). I was a bit confused because I set both my C and D HDD's on these settings and I'm not sure which Windows is actually using for virtual memory.
I can only work about a minute before the system seems to overload then crashes. I'm in a bit of trouble with this and would appreciate any help. Thank you! Stan

    Stan,
At about 70% of capacity, a HDD begins to slow down, and its performance deteriorates, the closer to 100% one comes.
Now, if you only have one physical HDD, C:\, and add an additional HDD, D:\, I would create a folder for each of your Projects. Then, I would Move my Assets from C:\. Here, one has several choices, which I will get into in a bit. I would Move my PREL files to their respective Project folders. The Scratch Disks, with the Media Cache, Render Files, etc., can be Moved, or probably better, can be Deleted, as PrE will regenerate those - the CFA's and PEK's, when you Open the Project (be patient, until that work is done, and just watch the little "progress bar" in the lower-right of the GUI. In Edit>Preferences, set Scratch Disk to "Same as Project," which will now be on your D:\. When needed, you can hit Enter, to Render the parts of your Timeline, that will need it. I would not bother Moving those Render Files, as it might not work to reestablish the links to them, and it will only take a few moments to Render again.
Now, once you have done the Move, when you Open one of the PREL files, the links to the Assets will NOT be valid. Those links are absolute Paths, and you will have changed the drive letter, so they will be broken. PrE will ask you, "Where is file _____ ?" and present you with navigation screens, and also a Finder. Just navigate to the new folder on D:\, where the first missing Asset is, and PrE will link to it, then survey that folder, and re-link all Assets used in that Project. If you have sub-folder with the Assets, you will need to repeat for each sub-folder, but only for the first un-linked file in each. For more detail, see this ARTICLE.
For setting up Project folders, and sub-folders, this ARTICLE gives you my scheme. It is not the only way to do it, so feel free to adapt from it, to suit the way that you like to work. If you notice, I have my media files stored elsewhere, and only use Copies of them in the sub-folders. The location of your media files is a personal choice. Some keep them in sub-folders by subject, or maybe date, and just link to the ones Imported, from there. I like to keep mine separate, and just Copy them to, say the Video sub-folder below my Project's root folder. This is your choice.
Also, and before you do anything with that new D:\, there is another possible workflow - the Project Archiver. It will create a Copy of your Project, on the Destination Disk that you choose - D:\ in this case. It will gather up the Assets, and Copy them too, but depending on the folder structure, where those Assets resided, at Import, there can be some "missing files." If you use Project Archiver, make sure to test the Project, that it Copied over to D:\, to make sure that it was able to get everything, and that there are no problems with this Copy of your Project.
I would give this some thought, before you do anything. Plan how you'd like to handle it, before you Move, Copy or Delete the very first file. Also, and since you are starting with at least a half-way "clean slate," this gives you the opportunity to decide on the folder structure, that works best for you.
In the end, cleaning your Projects, your Media and your Scratch Disks off of C:\, and locating them onto D:\, will likely speed things up.
In an ideal world, one would have a C:\, with ONLY the OS, programs and possibly the Page File, or part of it. Then, they would have their Media on a separate, physical HDD. Last, they would have their Projects, and their Scratch Disks on yet a third physical HDD. If one only has 2 physical HDD's, then they would combine the latter two, onto one physical HDD.
In my folder/sub-folder scheme, above, I sacrifice some performance, by not splitting my Media and my Projects/Scratch Disks over separate HDD's, but I use the portability of my FW-800 externals, between machines, and then have a "one-touch" Delete (the Project's root folder), when I have finished. Were I not using the portability, I would split the Media to one HDD, and Projects/Scratch Disks to another. As the originals of my Media are on my NAS, what I would have on that second HDD would just be Copies, and I would use the same Project folder, as on the other HDD, for each Project. Then, I would know which Project was included, and would then have a "two-touch" Deletion - one for the Project and everything under it, and one for that Project's Media Copies.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
