Pre data network timeouts too short?
I was trying to access email through local WiFi access using my Palm Pre 1.0.3. It consistently did not work, while my friends, using their Windows and Mac laptops had no trouble. The network latency was really bad, with packet transit times in the hundreds to thousands of msecs at times. Not a great network, but usable.....except not on the Pre!!! (Surprisingly I tried the NY Times new app and it seemed to fare much better than email --which never worked. Web browsing was sort of in between.) What is the problem with the Pre's network access?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)
Maybe something bad in the phone. I use wifi most the time and speed tests are just fine. But I always usually have good connections. At a hotel the other day I only had 1 dot on the bottom of the wifi strength meter and it still worked fine.

"password too short" with verizon cellular data account
Hi everyone,
When I try to set up a cellular data account on my ipad 2 with verizon, I continue to receive a "password too short" message. My password exceeds the minimum characters specified and has four numbers. Anyone else getting this infuriating response? Thanks

Think? I'd call again and get another rep. Why in the world a locked account unlock automatically? Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of a lock? -
Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2? My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old. It;s been working perfectly up until now. I have no problem on my home WIFI, or through personal hotspot working through my iPhone 5.
I have worked with AT&T, replaced the SIM card with a new one, and done a backup/restore to factory settings, all with the same result that when I turn Cellular
Data on, with or without Enable LTE, it goes into "searching" mode, or reports "no service". My iPhone 5 works perfectly on iOS 8.1.2, on Cellular. I've browsed the blogs and have tried Apple's suggested fix, all to no result.
Oddly enough, every once in a while I do get connected to the network for a short ime (minutes), but it always returns to "searching".
I've filed a report with Apple, along with a request that they contact me, but no results yet.
Help? (and thank you).Hello razmee209. Thank you for your response. I spent the better part of yesterday working with Apple Support. They tried their best, to include backing up photos to my HP laptop, backing up the iPad to iCloud, then resetting the iPad in total. Same problem. I restored from the cloud to recover my apps, same problem.
AT&T installed a new sim card - same problem. I spent time with AT&T Support yesterday, too. In both cases, (Apple and AT&T) the support techs who worked with me were extremely polite, courteous and helpful to the best of their abilities, but I think the problem lies deeper, and nobody at Apple is admitting they have a problem with iOS 8, that I'm aware of.
I didn't have this issue before I upgraded to iOS 8.1.2.
Everything else with the iPad works fine: WIFI, Personal Hotspot, email, all my apps, etc.
In browsing the web for this issue I see that many other folks have the same problem. I filed a report with Apple this morning, requesting that they contact me, but no word yet. I was going to go to iPhone 6, and had been considering the iPad Air 2, but I see reports of this problem with those units as well.
At this point I don't think I'll be spending any more money with Apple, at least not till this issue is resolved.
Thanks again for your response and suggestions. -
Error "602" System error: AK Datapart too short
Hi all,
Ok, I have looked just about everywhere for an answer to this but to no avail...I even tried under a few rocks we have laying around.
Anyway here it is:
While running a compression in BW we get Error "602" System error: AK Datapart too short.
This is happening while doing a select statement during the compression of the infocube. It does not happen all the time, just kind like when ever it feels like. The only note I could find in OSS was one about Live Cache and it does not seem to apply.
Here is the dump which I really hate doing this, but it gives all the info needed :
untime Error DBIF_DSQL2_SQL_ERROR
Except. CX_SY_NATIVE_SQL_ERROR
Date and Time 08/15/2007 12:23:09
ShrtText
An SQL error occurred when executing Native SQL.
What happened?
Error "-602" occurred in the current database connection "DEFAULT".
What can you do?
Print out the error message (using the "Print" function)
and make a note of the actions and input that caused the
error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
date.
is especially useful if you want to keep a particular message.

2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes

Any thoughts would be helpful,
Thanks,
DavidThis error usually occurs when there is a database lock or no space in teh database. Got DB02 and Click on Space critical objects to see whether any entries are there. If yes contact your basis to increase the space.
Hope this helps

Occasional Task Sequence fail (1 out of 5) with Error 615 Your Password is too short
We have a task sequence that fails to install software and updates with an error liek this: Operation System Error 615: The password you provided was too short for the computers password policy. Please provide a longer password.
With all software installations I always tick the continue on failure. Consequently in a task sequence you see the entire list of installation requirements fail with this error. This includes Applications, Packages and Software Updates. Without any amendment,
the next time it is run, it runs successfully. Add to this the issue that the task sequence no longer displays the progress bar after rebooting into windows (x64) and it all points to the OSD process being a bit flaky.
By the way, we are installing Win7 x64 (No x86 anymore) over PXE.
So any pointers with this would be very gratefully received.

Of course, the password complexity issue is a non-starter: How come SCCM 2007 task sequences did not have the same problem? Why does the Task Sequence work
sometimes and not others. All passwords I provide to Configuration Manager all conform to complexity rules anyway.

Network Timeout freezes InDesign
A Win7 SP1 64bit PC is running InDesign CS5, and while working on a file, a user experienced a "network connection" error, and then InDesign froze, with no chance of recovery.
Is there any way to prevent ID from freezing when a network timeout issue occurs?
Why does it need to freeze anyway? Why can't it simply halt whatever task it was trying to perform?I think there is no question, scientifically or unscientifically, that we see far more reports of file corruption with networks than without.
Networks are complicated beasts, and they have many more possibly failure points than local disks do. (On the other hand, people with network storage are much more likely to have reliably backups; at least that's been true historically before the advent of both popular Internet-based backup and Apple's Time Machine). It's also the case that medium to large sites work almost exclusively with networks (though they may use database-driven document storage for which the traditional InDesign network-averse guidance may not apply), and they tend to deal with more documents than individuals do.
I think the single most definitive point in your favor of your position is this text from the CS5 help, Recommended workflow for InDesign documents:
You
can improve performance and prevent many problems by establishing
a good workflow to use with Adobe InDesign.
Open documents locally
Before you open
a document stored on a network volume or on removable media, copy
the document and any linked graphics to your local hard disk. The slower
access time and data transfer rate of a network volume or removable media
can cause data to become lost or corrupted, possibly damaging the document.
However, be aware of overriding someone else’s work if you copy
the local files back to a network server.
But that doesn't say networks are unsupported, it just says they may not be good.
But the person who wrote this was hopelessly naïve — network are a critical part of any modern business computer setup that is larger in scope than a sole proprietorship. And anyworkflow that expects users to copy files off the network to local disk and back is patently ludicrous. As the above acknowledges, copying them back is frought with peril.
Furthermore, the operating system vendors have expended no small effort to make networks mroe and more seamless and well-integrated, and to try to make them nearly indistiguishable from local disk—except. Except when they don't. Except when they can't. Except when applications need to know more about the underlying substrate of the filesystem, need better timing information, need to do things like memory-map files into RAM with guaranteed perforamance, etc. Though I am a bit skeptical that InDesign has any such needs...
Probably a good summary comes from a John Nack (Photoshop evangelist) blog post from 2008 (and networks have only become more popular), where he quotes an unnamed Adobe engineer, http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/06/filesaving_issu.html:
Directly writing to a network filing system adds a level of complexity,
which includes timing issues, network noise, performance, and other
potential issues. We’ve occasionally run into bugs with different
configurations/combinations, but as there are too many variants for us
to reliably test and certify all the clients, servers, hardware and
software, we recommend the safer course of working with files locally
and then copying them up to a file server when you’re done. While
directly reading/writing to network file systems should work in theory,
and while we do some limited testing in the most popular configurations
to verify that it does, we can not certify that it will work reliably in
your configuration.
But, of course, what do we mean by "support"? I am, by the way, interpretting your statement "not designed for working over networks," as "networks are not supported," and that may not be fair of me.
To me, "supported" means there is a reasonable expectation of the software working in the scenario, that Adobe will address bugs raised to them over the issue (rather than closing bugs saying, "at your own risk, sorry, bub!"), and Adobe will make a reasonable effort to keep it working. I think the situation with networks does qualify.
Unfortunately, it's hard to find anyone to say so. In part, I think, because there are so many variables nobody wants to be pinned down saying "it'll work" because you'll always eventually be able to point to a case where it won't. And the above blog post (part I didn't quote) talks about how a problem is really due to a bad interaction with Adobe product and MacOS X 10.5.3, which was later fixed by Apple.
Anyhow, we can also find plenty of evidence of Adobe having accepted and fixed bugs that relate to network behavior in InDesign. So I'm pretty confident that network use of InDesign si well-supported. But I certainly wouldn't say it was rock solid.
Hmm, this is kind of long. I will address the OP's issues in a seperate post. -
I have got a Activation Lock on my iPhone and I need to get it activated. I don't know what Apple ID I was using with my iPhone. It shows as U***@h******.uk which is too short to be my email address. I have reset all my Apple ID passwords and none are activating my iPhone. I have also been into the apple store and they have tried to find out the Apple ID my iPhone was using but this was not successful. The serial number of my iPhone is: C32JN641DTWF
You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

/usr/lib/libXext.so.6 File too short
Hi, Im trying to get xorg running.
I'm running Arch on Vbox as guest.
I don't know exactly what I did to get this error, I was following the Arch wiki and was in the part of installing hal, dbus, xfree-input-keyboard and mouse.
Now I'm getting an error that wasn't before. I type "startx" and I get:
> xauth: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libXext.so.6: file too short
> xauth: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libX11.so.6: file too short
With "pacman -Qo libX11.so.6"
> error: failed to read file libX11.so.6: No such file or directory
"pacman -Qo libX11.so.6"
> error: failed to read file libX11.so: No such file or directory
Same for libXext.so.6
"pacman -Ss libxext"
> extra/libxext 1.1.1-1 X11 miscellaneous extensions library
"pacman -S libxext"
>warning: libext-1.1.1-1 is up to date -- reinstalling
>Proceed with installation (y/n) y
> checking for file conflicts
> (lot of errors like this: libxext: MITMisc.h exists in filesystem)
> Errors ocurred, no packages were upgraded.
"pacman -R libxext"
> error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
> (lots of packets require libxext)
I also renamed ld.so.cache to ld.so.cache (should I do anything else to rebuild it?)
HelpHi thanks, that did it.
Unfortunately now "startx" throws another new error that wasn't before. "Startx" would bring up a black screen I couldn't get out from before, I guess it was working, kinda.
This is the error now:
>dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vboxvideo_drv.so : undefined symbol: resVga Shared
> (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vboxvideo_drv.so
> (EE) Failed to load module "vboxvideo" (loader failed, 7)
> (EE) module ABI major version (4) doesn´t match the server´s version (7)
>Fatal server error:
>no screens found
So I tried just in case:
"pacman -Qo vboxvideo_drv.so". The file didn't belong to any package.
"pacman -Sf virtualbox-additions". All ok the package was reinstalled.
But that didn't solve the problem. I also did "shutdown -rF now"
Same problem still. -
I am doing 10AS(10.1.3.5) upgrade on 64bit OL 5 os with R1211/11.2.0.3 database.
I set the environment file and trying to run runinstaller, i am getting below error.

Regards,
Farrukh Salman,i wrote a script which uses the connection method you describe like this:
To connect to a local database with a user which has been set-up to
authenticate via the OS ("ALTER USER username IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY"):
$dbh = DBI-> connect('dbi:Oracle:','/','');
Note the lack of a connection name (use the ORACLE_SID environment
variable).
My tnsnames.ora looks like:
BBA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dhcp-144.int.consol.de)(PORT = 1521))
"tnsping bba" worked fine, but my perl-script (where is set $ENV{ORACLE_SID}
= "bba") always said:
CRITICAL - cannot connect to . ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
What i didn't know, tnsping seems to try also the upper case, that's why i
blindly set ORACLE_SID also to "bba".
Now, 13 hours later (reading half of the internet, reading process and
network traces), i accidentially typed the ORACLE_SID in upper case and it
worked.
In order to save other people from spending hours in desperation, i propose
to add a warning message on the cpan webpage:
The ORACLE_SID is case sensitive, use the exact copy of the value from
tnsnames.ora or forget it. -
JPEG market segment length is too short
In copying a series of folders containing JPEGs, PSDs and RAW files (Canon .CR2 and Hasselblad .3F) to a new external drive (Mac OSX), there was a hiccup and a large number of the copied image files contain red dots next to them in the finder window. The files are named correctly and contain the full data size of the originals, but when attempting to open a JPEG I get the following error message:
Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete).
When attempting to open a .PSD file the message is:
Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document.
When attempting to open the RAW file in Bridge, the message is:
Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.
In the Get Info window, all three file types are correctly identified as Adobe Photoshop files, Adobe Photoshop JPEG files and Camera RAW files, and each is the correct size it should be.
This happened to some, but not all of the files on the drive, and it appears to have happened randomly. I have run Data Rescue on the drive, but the rescued file still have the red dots and do not open. I've also tried other file recovery programs, as well as Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery and Jpeg Repair utilities, all to no avail.
I've tried renaming the files, and opening them from other programs such as preview, iPhoto and Lightroom. Still no luck.
I'm hoping someone has another angle for me. The data is there; it's obvious something happened that is preventing the files from opening, but it seems there should be some fix for this.
TIAYour opening statement said you were copying, not moving the files.
If you were Moving the files, then the routine that was doing the moving erases behind unless they are coming from a CDROM or a write protected device..
Those files are essentially corrupted or incompatible with CC.
Did those files open okay where ever they lived before they were moved?
What was the "hiccup" that you mentioned? A Power Hiccup ? Then these files are toast if indeed there were in the middle of a Move..
Were you using Finder to do this task? -

Can i update ios 8.0 via cellular data network?
No, it uses too much cellular data. Also if your phone is running fine on IOS 7.1.2 I'd hold off upgrading until a few more of the bugs have been worked out of IOS 8.

Still gettting error 33162 despite increasing network timeouts
Hi All,
I have an application that frequently displays error code 33162. I followed the advice at http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/C4E77D7E9BECBAFE86256C6200544289 and doubled my network timeouts to 4 seconds timeout and 10 seconds initial connect timeout. I still get the error however. When I get the error the block diagram briefly flashes on one of the blocks, but it's too fast to really see.
Any advice on how to solve this error condition?
Thanks,
SeanHi,
I am having the problem occur repeatedly again today. My fieldpoint hardware is cFP-2000. I am currently seeing repeated 33162 errors, so many that I have to stop my application.
The attached screenshot shows where the error is occuring. We'd really appreciate any advice on this problem. Our fieldpoint modules are located close to some heavy AC equipment, so hopefully the EM fields from this are not affecting them.
Thanks,
Sean
