Pre faults
I purchased my palm pre the first day it was available through sprint. It has become my new primary tool for everything I do. So much so that I find myself not touching my PC for weeks at a time. It really can be your only necessary device. Everything seemed great but last week I faced my first set of challenges that had me wishing i hadn't purchased the phone.
First I can say that the phone is so new I had no idea that because of its 'newness' palm nor sprint could really help me. so trial and error and I came out on top.
The first problem came out of nowhere. The edge of the screen closest to the USB input has become somewhat discolored due to heating issues. During charges the phone seems to rise drastically in temperature sometimes high enough to feel as if it were in the sun all day. At my job we are in the center of the building and it would heat up when I wasn't using I assume because it couldn't find signal. I have now become used to the over heating, but it still bothers me that the screen has discolored.
The second problem I can't even really explain how irritating it was. I was listening to music one day and i noticed the screen kept lighting up for now reason. I am not sure what the phone was actually doing during the random light ups but no indicators came up for text or voice mail or email so I can't tell you what it was doing. Then the phone started to pause the music on its own. I couldn't figure out what the problem was so I turned off the music and put the phone on the charger so it's awesome long lasting battery would last me the night (jokingly. I still dread the quick dying battery problem.) Came back to the phone when someone called me and I thought they were playing games with me because they called three times and didnt say anything...or so i thought. after the fourth time i got curious and so I turned on the speaker phone and to my surprise the person was on the other line and they said they could hear me the whole time. I was confused. I hung up and started to investigate. I could no longer hear from the earpiece on the Pre, no music would play when I turned on the media player, Youtube worked without sound, and when i put the phone to my ear to answer, the screen wouldn't turn off so the phone was reacting to every slight touch of my face. VERY IRRITATING when when your in a conversation. I could tell you about the hell I went through with sprint but i suppose it doesn't belong here. basically they said I would have to send it to Palm for repairs (money$) or send it to their tech($100) and that wouldn't even guarentee my phone would be fixed. I had insurance but they said the phones so new I would have to wait possibly MONTHS to get a new phone. It was a joke. So I thought I was stuck with my broken Pre. But curiosity of me and my friends prevailed. I told them the issues with the phone. Of course they all laughed because they are IPhone users and according to them my phone is just a clunker, but back to the fix we really wanted to figure it out. So we started thinking, we had a friend a long time ago who had one of the first phones from a Verizon plan. One day he put his earphones into the device to have a conversation and after that the earpiece on the phone never worked again! So we started from square one. I turned on the music player and put in a pair of headphones. There was sound...but only from the headphones. Everytime I took them out the speaker still wouldn't turn on. Then my friend noticed it wasn't pausing when I took out the earphones like it is supposed to. So we started to mess with the jack on the phone. We noticed you could hear some sound when the headphones weren't inserted all the way. So we played with the jack a little bit and then it started to stop the music like it was supposed to and wouldn't you know after a few wiggles in the jack...the SOUND CAME BACK and the earpiece came on for talking on the phone! For all the high tech gadgets in the phone, the Pre has fallen victim to faulty earphone jacks...I still can't believe it. I am never putting anything in the headphone jack from here on out, I really just hope the Palm team reads this post and fixes the issue before they sell more of these faulty parts to people. I know i missed out, maybe one day they will fix it and you will be able to listen to music through the headphones if you want. For now I warn all Pre users to beware of the headphone jacks on the phone. You don't want to put a pair on one day and never be able to hear from the actual phone again.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)
I had the same issue, and made a post about it here http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=webossoftware&message.id=220#M220 . This was weekend the pre was released and mine got stuck in headphone mode. But luckily sprint store did not give me any trouble, was in and out with a new phone within 5 minutes of them looking at it. I did not even get the phone at this store, but since the one I did buy it at was not a repair center they said take it to another one that was. Did not even ask to see a receipt or anything. Funny thing is I was also having the hot phone issue. DId not know if it was normal as this was the day the phone came out. But my exchanged phone did not get nearly as warm. And its still working fine. Sucks they are giving you such a hard time on an exchange.

Use Sign.xml and Encrypt.xml for both request AND response within WSDL?
Hi,
ALSB: 2.6
I was wandering if it's possible to use abstract outof the box WS-Policy file within WSDL file to specify encryption
(Encrypt.xml) and digital signature(Sign.xml) with X509 for both request and response???
So far, it only works for either request or response BUT not both. i.e. within WSDL file
<!-- following WSDL works for encrypting and signing request with X509 in test console -->.....
<wsdl:binding name="DexService2Soap" type="tns:DexService2Soap">

Or

But not both

So is this a feature not supported in ALSB 2.6 yet or am I missing something dead simple?
Thanks in advance
SamInstead of specifying policies for input and output separately you could place the policy reference only once in the operation element. Maybe will this solve your problem...

I raised an issue via the forum (13th Feb) which now appears to be fixed relating to broadband usage that was not be me, I was assured speaking to a moderator who helped me look at the problem (and appears to have fixed it) that I would not be charged for this fault but appear to be about to be billed £33 in connection with this (braodband usage above my 10GB limit).
Soemone who I spoke to was due to monitor my usage ( which now appears to have retuned to pre fault levels) was due to get back in touch to discuss what could be done re this but didn't - this may be why these charges appear on my account?
Please can a billing moderator help me as have tried calling 0800 800150 who were of no help whatsoever and could not understand my query.
Happy to pay for what I've actually used!
Thanks

Rolling back of Quick Pay Pre-payment and Quick Pay in case of void cheque
Hi All
I am facing an issue if you can help me out of if
Here is a scenario
a payroll manager runs the following processes.
1. Payroll run
2. Pre-Payments
3. Payroll Archiver
4. Payment Output file
After running all these process payroll manager finds that he also has to make an adhoc payment on account of car loan of AED 150,000.
So he runs following processes
1. Quick pay for Car loan
2. Quick pay pre-payments (payment made through check)
3. payroll archiver
4. Cheque Writer.
Now due to some technical fault, alignment on printing of cheque becomes disturbed there for cheque misprinted.
Payroll manager runs Void Cheque process to cancel the cheque.
After all these processes which has run successfully, order comes from upper management to rollback quickpay for adhoc payment of loan.
Now question is how it can be achieved.
I tried different things as follows
On Assignment Process results screen i queried the assignment which all the processes in descending order.
I tried to start roll back from cheque writer but system didn't allowed to do this because of check Void process.
I tried to start rollback from Magnetic report, system allowed to roll it back.
Then i tried to rollback Quick-pay prepayment, system did not allow me be do it. There fore i couldn't run rollback for Quick-pay.
There is an another thing i tried.
On "Assignment Process Result" screen i queried assignment. Then i delete the first entry of Void cheque by using delete option from menu bar on top and saved the record. then i delete cheque writer entry and saved the record. Then i run rollback for quick pay pre-payments and ran it successfully and then lastly i ran rollback for quick pay run.
One thing cautioned me that if I delete the void cheque entry then its history may be lost or have lost and on the other hand with out deleting void cheque i cannot proceed to rollback quick pay.
Kindly tell me the best way to run rollback for quick pay in this situation.
Regards
MajidBt do not provide broadband only so you need existing account holder to add broadband to phone account and then you can pay back the account holder - probably not what you want
the 12 months advance applies to the line rental not the broadband - as I said BT do not sell broadband only you buy a package which includes phone

Hi anyone got any idea how to resolve the following error during execution of root.sh on second node of a RAC installation. I see there is a failure when clscfg -localadd is run - perhaps this is the start of the issue. I have no idea what this command is doing
Any help appreciated

SAP AGS -
Sync/Async bridge via JMS with FAULT messages
Hello all,<br><br>
I set up a sync/async bridge scenario with using of JMS communication channel (SAP - JMSReceiverCC - JMSServer and application - JMSSenderCC - SAP). The normal communication works fine.<br>
But what we can not solve is the Fault Message handling. If there is a application error behind the JMS, a fault message is generated instead of proper application response and sent back to XI. Without any additional setup of JMS Sender CC the processing of the message ends with "MAPPING - EXCEPTION_DURING_EXECUTE", because normal "response mapping" is executed instead of "fault message mapping". This is correct behavior without any discussion.<br><br>
[SAPhelp|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/45/202845de34072ce10000000a155369/frameset.htm] says that there are 2 module parameters to be set : fault, faultNamespace. The description is rather vague, so let's see, what the "NotifyResponseBean" does, when parameters fault/faultNamespace are filled:<br><br>
<pre>if(fault != null && faultNamespace != null)
if(faultNamespace.equals("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System"))
((XIMessage)message1).setMessageClass(MessageClass.SYSTEM_ERROR);
((XIMessage)message1).setError(fault, "no additional information");
} else
((XIMessage)message1).setMessageClass(MessageClass.APPLICATION_ERROR);
ErrorInfo errorinfo = message1.createErrorInfo();
errorinfo.setAttribute("ApplicationFaultInterface", fault);
errorinfo.setAttribute("ApplicationFaultInterfaceNamespace", faultNamespace);
errorinfo.setAttribute("ErrorCode", fault);
errorinfo.setAttribute("AdditionalErrorText", "no additional information");
message1.setErrorInfo(errorinfo);
} else
((XIMessage)message1).setMessageClass(MessageClass.APPLICATION_RESPONSE);
}</pre><br>
The code is pretty straight forward so one could assume, that it's the name and namespace of inbound synchronnous message interface what is supposed to be filled in the values of each parameter. And from that kind of information SAP XI can evolve how to handle the response, actually the fault.<br>
Unfortunatelly the real situation is different - every time the fault message is generated and sent back to XI, the response is correctly corelated with the request message, "WaitResponseBean" and "NotifyResponseBean" are finished correctly and the processing crashes in messaging class on following exception:<br><br>
java.lang.NullPointerException at java.util.Hashtable.put(Hashtable.java:592) at
com.sap.aii.messaging.mo.MessageContext.setAttribute(MessageContext.java:140) at
com.sap.aii.adapter.xi.ms.XIMessage.updateHeaders(XIMessage.java:4244) at

com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.impl.core.transport.http.MessagingServlet.doPost(MessagingServlet.java:337) at ...
<br><br>
Is there anyone, who can put more light on JMS sync/async bridge fault handling ???
<br><br>
Thank you ...<br>
Regards
TomasHello again,
I proceed in investigation little more, but the main problem has not been solved. I found that the problem is not even in WaitResponseBean (placed in JMCReceiverCC). This bean is woken up properly on base of proper CorrelationID. See the log:
2009-10-15 11:00:33 Success WRB: entering WaitResponseBean
2009-10-15 11:00:33 Success WRB: retrieving the message for f1ea1fc0-b96d-11de-9b68-00144f4acd86 ...
2009-10-15 11:00:46 Success WRB: retrieved the message: ApplicationError
2009-10-15 11:00:46 Success WRB: leaving WaitResponseBean
I think, that the problem is somewhere within main messaging functionality. I suppose that on base of exception message:
com.sap.aii.messaging.mo.MessageContext.setAttribute(MessageContext.java:140) at
which is generated.
Any ideas or comments ?
Thank you in advance.

Iphone 4 won't update to iOS 5 and I think it's my itune's fault
So my iphone has been stuck in this outdated ios for more than a year. Whenever I try to press update to install the iOS 5.1 (or something like that), it says something along the lines of "the iphone software update server could not be contacted." Now I think this is itune's fault because I cannot access the itunes store on it either (possibly a network issue or something?), but when I connect my phone to my computer and access the itunes store through the itunes app on my phone, it works fine. Also, since this is pre-iOS 5, I cannot update straight from my phone, and I'm just overall lost on what to do
It's really irritating not having the chance to put new apps into my phone and it;s just overall really tiring. I'm also inexperienced with fixing network issues etc etc so any detailed and guided help would be much appreciated. I have a iphone 4 and a Windows 7 tower PC.Hello jaideniv,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
First I would recommend this article named Can't connect to the iTunes Store found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368. It will get you started with troubleshooting iTunes Store connection issues on the computer and the phone.
If needed there is a more advanced article named iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 that I would next recommend.
Take care,

Pre - Usb Door Cracks - PreCentral Poll
I just wanted to cross post this here to hopefully get some attention from Palm regarding USB Door cracking being a common issue on Pre's.
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/189887-my-pre-has-developed-crack-located.html
I am highly hesitant to get an advance replacement phone just to be told the damage is my fault, when in reality there are a lot of people with the same issue.
The other option being a repair, which leaves me without a phone for a week and may end up costing me anyway.
Like others, my usb door has fallen out due to the bottom strip breaking, and now I have a crack heading towards my screen. I bought my Pre on launch day with Sprint.
This is a design flaw most likely related to repeated stress on the side of the phone from plugging/unplugging usb cables for charging and data transfer.
Yes I have dropped my phone in the last 7 months, but the damage was only cosmetic and very minor, this crack came from nowhere and now I am doubting I can even get my phone replaced for a defect.
Now over 100 people in the PreCentral poll reporting this crack, and here is another thread: http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/235042-usb-crack-replacement-coming.html
Anyone with a similar issue please post in here, or the PreCentral thread.
My phone:
Some images from the PreCentral thread, all from different people. I'll get a picture of mine up here when I can.
It would seem like coincidence if it wasn't for the fact that these cracks originate from the same exact location for everyone.
If this was abuse, you would think the cracks would appear at different locations surrounding the usb door, but that is not the case.
Pictures from this thread:
Thank you.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Purchased / activated 9/9/09
4 months later the USB port door crack appears (no drops or abuse)
Sprint repair store says no dice -- only the LED button cracks are replacable under warranty. All other cracks won't be fixed (didn't know about the Sprint Customer Care website (see below) which does not distinguish between different types of cracks -- so I'm going to try another location later today and show them that post. Thanks.

If the screen on your Palm® Pre™ did not crack as a result of abuse, please visit the nearest Sprint Service & Repair Center for a warranty exchange.
Meanwhile sprint store #1 told me to call Palm. After speaking with an off-shore warranty rep (PALM - not Sprint) and assuring them that this was not abuse, they agreed to "Repair" it -- which I highly doubt - They'll almost certainly send a refurb. Only catch was I'd need to send my phone in with a 7-10 day replacement window. Who the **** can do that. I'm a business professional and my phone is my life. Whatever happened to the approach which allowed us to receive a refurb by mail and return the original? -
I am working on porting an application that runs on sun solaris sparc (OS ver 5.8) with Berkeley DB ver 4.2.50 into suse linux [ Linux version 2.6.5-7.244-smp (gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)) ]. I have compiled the application in linux and i am getting segmentation fault error while running the application. The error occurs while the objects are loaded from the database into berkeley cache. The application fails in db->put function while loading the objects. This segmentation fault error is not consistently occuring every time on the same object. Sometimes it throws the error while loading the first object itself or sometimes it throws after loading couple of objects. But the stack trace shows the same function whenever it crashes.
Given below is the stack trace of the application when it throws SIGSEGV.

The code that calls the db->put() function is given below:
<pre>
bool BerkeleyCache::insert_i(size_t transactionId, const CachePersistable* pObj)
bdbcache::Table* pTable = findTable_i(pObj->getPersistInfo().getObjectName());
if (pTable == NULL)
return false;

DB* pdb = pTable->getDB();
int rc = 0;
Synchronize sync(pPrimaryKey->getKeyBufferCriticalSection());
pPrimaryKey->getKeyValues(pObj, pPrimaryKey->getKeyBuffer());
DBT key, data;
memset(&key, 0, sizeof(DBT));
key.flags = DB_DBT_USERMEM;
key.data = (void*)pPrimaryKey->getKeyBuffer().getBuffer();
key.ulen = key.size = pPrimaryKey->getKeyBuffer().getBufferLength();
memset(&data, 0, sizeof(DBT));
data.flags = DB_DBT_USERMEM;
if (pTable->isPrimaryDb())
data.data = (void*)pObj->getDataBufferStartPos();
data.ulen = data.size = pObj->getDataBufferSize();
rc = pdb->put(pdb, (DB_TXN*)transactionId, &key, &data, DB_NOOVERWRITE);
else
const PersistInfo::Property* prop = pTable->getJoinProperty();
Variant var = pObj->getValue( prop );
int n = 0;
switch (prop->_eType)
case PersistInfo::CHAR_ARRAY:

case PersistInfo::VAR_STRING:
const char* pch = (const char*)var;

break;
case PersistInfo::INT:
n = (int)var;
data.data = (void*)&n;
data.ulen = data.size = sizeof(int);
break;
rc = pdb->put(pdb, (DB_TXN*)transactionId, &key, &data, 0);
if (rc!= DB_SUCCESS)
//_app.logError("BerkeleyCache : DB->put() failed [%s]", db_strerror(rc));
_app.logInfo("ERROR:BerkeleyCache : DB->put() failed [%s]", db_strerror(rc));

At the end of this function, the return value of db->put is checked for DB_SUCCESS. The application never executed this line when it throws SIGSEGV.
I have tried using the BDB versions 4.5.20/4.6.18/4.6.19 with the application and it throws segmentation fault error with all versions of BDB. Following are the cache related configurable parameters that we use in our application.
cache size = 16 MB

max locks = 3000000
dirty read = N

RefServer.cpp:296Did you build the libraries stripped or otherwise remove debugging information?
run "file /opt/home/pesprm/local/db-4.6.19/db-4.6.19/build_unix/.libs/libdb-4.6.so"
Also, if I'm not mistaken this is Linux you're porting to, right? Might want to drop the "/opt" Solaris-ism as you continue to port more to Linux.
The code that calls the db->put() function is given
below:
if (pTable->getDataOffset() == -1)Does this return an unsigned or signed value?
pTable->setDataOffset(
t( (int)(pObj->getDataBufferStartPos() -
pObj->getDataStartPos()) );You cast to int here, what's the background reasoning for it?
DB* pdb = pTable->getDB();
int rc = 0;You don't check pdb is valid.
Synchronize
e sync(pPrimaryKey->getKeyBufferCriticalSection());
pPrimaryKey->getKeyValues(pObj,
, pPrimaryKey->getKeyBuffer());
DBT key, data;
memset(&key, 0, sizeof(DBT));
key.flags = DB_DBT_USERMEM;
key.data =
= (void*)pPrimaryKey->getKeyBuffer().getBuffer();Do you verify this is even valid? Have you also checked the code within a debugger and verified the logic is correct?
key.ulen = key.size =
= pPrimaryKey->getKeyBuffer().getBufferLength();Same thing.
memset(&data, 0, sizeof(DBT));
data.flags = DB_DBT_USERMEM;
if (pTable->isPrimaryDb())
data.data = (void*)pObj->getDataBufferStartPos();
data.ulen = data.size = pObj->getDataBufferSize();How do we know these are even valid? You're coming from the perspective that your code makes no mistakes when I have a hunch it does.
rc = pdb->put(pdb, (DB_TXN*)transactionId, &key,
y, &data, DB_NOOVERWRITE);Right, and this will most definitely result in a segmentation violation if you don't pass it valid data.
You're on Linux, I highly suggest you download and build Valgrind, run your application w/ valgrind --tool=memcheck, and get back to us. Also, don't strip debugging information from the berkeley db libraries during this phase of troubleshooting - especially when you're still porting something over.
I have tried using the BDB versions
4.5.20/4.6.18/4.6.19 with the application and it
throws segmentation fault error with all versions of
BDB.Because the issue isn't within BDB.

Solaris/Linux servers. The same application that
runs in Solaris connecting to Sybase DB (in solaris)
is working perfectly fine.More correctly, it was working perfectly fine under Solaris. That doesn't even mean that it's not taking part in undefined behavior - it just means it "worked." -
Signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address)
Hi,
I have a similar problem of exception in the pro* c code..
Actually I have 2 functions one for selecting the data from the database and another for
Formatting the selected data. since I have large data in run time of the compliable the compliable gets killed after some 10th request. Could not able to get the problem where it lies. When putting in the dbx it shows the following error:
t@1 (l@1) signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address) in t_splay at 0xfe1c7474
0xfe1c7474: t_splay+0x0014: ld [%o2 + 16], %o4
Current function is ProcessSQLReleaseLock
3080 sqlcxt((void **)0, &sqlctx, &sqlstm, &sqlfpn);
Actually the program fails in the select statement. But that is not the actual place of error. Please help me what are the other things I have to look in to find out this error..
I have freed the memory also..could not get the error ..Please give me a solution as soon as possible..

}Hi,
I am getting a similar error pasted below:
signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address) in strlen at 0xfeb331bc
0xfeb331bc: strlen+0x0080: ld [%o1], %o2
It says that the issue is in the 'strlen' function but I am nowhere using this function in my code.
The OS details are :
CC: WorkShop Compilers 4.2 30 Oct 1996 C++ 4.2
SunOS inad01 5.8 Generic_108528-19 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10
The test case is I have a MQ receiver code ( server ) reading some text/string from an IBM MQ series. This receiver server is crashing while after reading that text and filling up some other permanent tables.
Please let me know if i need to provide some more info.
Cheers,
Vivek -
Contact pictures not showing Pre 2
I have had two Pre 2, and neither of them show the contacts' pictures in either the SMS app or Just Type, not only does it look terrible, but I associate certain images with certain people for speed of recognition. I tried Palm support and got the usual battery pull etc, and I have even run the Doctor, to no avail.
Anyone else with this issue, or a solution? All the pictures are perfect in the contacts app.
Post relates to: Pre 2 p102ueu (Unlocked EU)I have a similar issue on my Pre 2 in that contact pictures do not appear if you copy the contact onto the Launcher. You just get the default 'moon' icon. Same support path as you revealed no answer other than possible hadware fault. Currently being looked at by thetreoguy who took a copy of my log file, but has thus far not come up with an answer.

ZFS on solaris10 panics HP Proliant server BAD TRAP page fault in kernel
When installing Solaris 9/10 on a HP Proliant DL 380 G5
the system resets when choosing ZFS as a root file system,
even after CPQary3 device driver has been installed.
The CPQary3 device driver is the latest version 2.3.0,is neccessary because of the presence of a HP Smart Array E200 Controller
and is installed sucessfully during the installation from DVD
When choosing UFS as a root file system, the OS installs fine.
But when zfs is used to configure a zps pool after the installation, the system resets again
Has anyone experienced the same problems ? knows how to solve this ?
Solaris installs fine when choosing UFS as a root file system.
After that, a second disk partition is created of type Other to hold a zfs pool with the following command:
zpool create datapool c0t0d0p2
After that the system PANICS: here is an extract from the /var/adm/messages files:

Edited by: user5485639 on 14-Mar-2011 08:42What do you mean after the driver is installed?
S10/U9 has the Compaq Array3 driver pre-installed. No more adding it to the jumpstart tree or "adding a driver" necessary.
I have setup several DL360 G3's and G4's which use the same controller.
