The main problem is not so much the speed but the fact that without fail, after going online via wifi on a laptop, phone tablet etc, around 5 minutes later the light starts to glash orange and connection is lost for about 10-15 minutes. it then seems to sort itself out but the speed is always then really slow.
I have tried one suggestion on here after searching which was to download an app to check the other wifi connections and change manually to a different channel, but have tried loads of different channels and nothing has helped.
I have tried different microfilters
i have tried moving the router nearer to the socket and away from any other electrical devices etc.
I live in flat and there is no master socket as such, there are three sockets in the flat but i have connected the broadband to the one that i can clearly see is fed directly from a cable coming in the wall from telphone pole outside.
I cant do the silent line test at this moment as i do not have a landline to try this but will try and obtain one and try that
I have just purchased a better quality shorte rj11 cable but this has not arrived in the post yet.
Any suggestions?
Thank you for your speedy response:

70% drop in speed and constant dropped connection
Been on Infinity2 since October, BT's estimate for my line is 58 to 76mbs as im 300m from the Penistone, Sheffield Road exchange. Up until Xmas i was getting 74-75mbs d/l and 17-18mbs u/l with 5-15ms ping in speedtest, now i'm getting 24 d/l 2.9 u/l and 50+ ping, the connection is slow and it drops approx 20 times a day. I can no longer watch streams, HD videos and gaming(the reason i got Infinity) is impossible as the lag is horrific and the drop offs finish it off, even web pages with pictures can take forever to load, the pics load gradually like back in the dial-up days.
BT Wholesale now gives 24.5mbs d/l 2.9 u/l and says the max for my line is 25.11mbs so what happened to the 58-76mbs i was quoted and the 75mbs i was actually getting?
It all seems to start since the latest firmware 4.7.5.1.83.8.130.1.17 (Type A) was installed, it was rock solid until then, now it feels like my speed and bandwidth have been heavilly capped to the point the service is not even good for web browsing as many pages time out.
The event log is now filled with IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration (TCP 222.186.62.66:6000->109.158.116.58:22 on ppp1)
i thought it might be due to the storms around xmas but a month on and some googling im realising im just 1 of many with these problems, has anybody managed to get the problems solved?
To Infinity and back down to Earth in flames.FAQ

Pathetic speeds and unreliable Connection
Hi
I have been having pathetic speeds and an unstable connection on my BT broadband since the start of 2010 I suspect this coincides with the roll out of 21CN on my local exchange. I use BT to mainly talk to my famly over skype but since the start of 2010 the quality of calls has gradually gone downhill and it became almost impossible to use my broadband connection in august when it would randomly disconnect and the audio and video quality on skype became utterly pathetic.
On talking to indian call centre, I got told that my router was faulty and since my contract ran out in august, I need to sign up to a new contract to recieve a replacement router. on signing up to a years new contract on 2nd September and going with the ussual hassle of a few weeks delay in getting the router and arguing with the indian call centres to get the router sent as they delibrately cancel the router delivery after making the sale, when I eventually got the router the broadband was no better, I complaining further to BT I got told there is a fault at the exchange which they'll fix and the broadband speed would go up. Guess what nothing happened to the speed. In 2009 the typical speed on my connection according to speed test used to be 5.5 Mbs up and 500kbs down now I was stuck with 3Mbs and 270kbs and then things took a turn for worse in the last week of October the speed went down to 50kbs (down) on checking with bt speed test, I found my IP Profile was limited to 65kbs. I called up BT to complain again this time they decided to send and engineer over to my house who while doing the test casually told me that line doesn't have any problems but even though you should be connected at ADSL2+ none of my checks confirm this is the case the switches may be ADSL2+ but the backend is not connected. Now I don't know what to make of this except may be say BT is cheating with its customers.
Please free to make suggestions to help me, my router stats are:

Slow internet speeds and dropping connection
hello, I am making this post on behalf of my dad, for a good few months (5-6 maybe even longer) we have been experiencing slow internet speeds and a dropping connection when ever the phone is picked up. when an incoming call is answered some or all devices connected to the internet drop out for a second then come back online, the connection does not completly disapear but causes any voice chat, streaming or gaming to disconect. We have BT wireless phones (not sure what exact type) which we have had for a few years. they are connected through an ADSL filter which as far i can remember has been there for years. We have a netgear DG834GT router which has also been there for a few years. I went onto its settings and got this information, not sure if its usefull or not.

Home Hub 3. Constant connectivity loss. Event log ...
Trying to get any kind of service out of my BT Infinity provision nowadays is like trying to arrange a tsunami in a desert.
Time after time after time after time, the Internet is working normally but then a page refuses to refresh and attempts to open another website result only in 'page not found' even though the Internet-connection icon is glowing steadily in the tray, and when I ask Windows to check on things, it reports that no problems have been found and the connection is working normally.
Except, of course, it isn't. I am not a technical expert and therefore haven't much of a clue where to start with this. My Vista OS runs with Panda Cloud AV and Malwarebytes PRO and Windows Firewall, all three of which have always played nicely. Prior to switching to BT Infinity, I had 'ordinary' BT broadband via a Netgear wireless router. The service was trouble-free.
This morning, I decided to delve into BT Home Hub Manager to re-set to factory default. That in itself took some doing because clicking on the Firefox bookmark got me nowhere at all: I had to sit here and wait for 10 minutes before the Hub page suddenly appeared as if out of nowhere.
I found in the event logs a seemingly unending chain of firewall related reports. Rather than read 'em all, I just hit re-set and whoa-hey, after a 5 or 6 minute wait, everything was fine and dandy again. . .
Until, 20 minutes later, it wasn't. Despite the re-set, Internet connectivity was shot to pieces. I'm on Amazon UK and click to open a new page in a new tab: Page Not Found. On the BBC News website, click on a link to open in a new tab: Page Not Found. Reload any of those exisdting, open pages and the reload circle just spins and spins until. . . Page Not Found.
Unfortunately, I can't make head nor tail of the log reports in the Firewall section, but typically they read:
IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration
BLOCKED 1 more packet [because of Remote Administration]
IN: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection
BLOCKED 4 more packets (because of Packet invalid in connection)
IN: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection
BLOCKED 20 more packets (because of Packet invalid in connection)
BLOCKED 40 more packets (becuase of Packet invalid in connection)
And so it goes on. . . and on. It's not even clear to me if the Home Hub is doing the blocking anyway, but if it is, then I can't begin to figure out why websites like Amazon UK, BBC News, Speedtest and even Google Maps should be BLOCKED.
Help appreciated. . . always assuming, this post actually gets through -- I've no idea if this page has gone down or not, because though it's on-screen, that no longer means anything at all. Thanks, Ray. Just managed to get back on here, there's been virtually no connectivity at all. One odd thing has been that the Home Hub Manager has opened OK. But it is no longer in agreement with the computer about whether or not connectivity exists. For example:
1) Click on disconnect in HH Manager, and it reports that the task has been achieved and the button changes to 'connect'.
But no disconnection has occurred. The Internet icon is still in the tray in its 'connected' state. And it's possible to go on the Net and briefly open up a website that isn't in the FF cache. But then everything fails again. Alternatively:
2) Click 'disconnect' in the tray control and the icon changes shows a bid red x. But the HH Manager doesn't agree. It continues to report that the computer is connected to the Internet.
I'm baffled and wearied. I'll have to relocate the Infinity set-up from downstairs to where this computer is; I'm assuming, I leave the modem in place (the new white flat thing the engineer brought when he installed Infinity)and just disconnect the black HH3 and brin g it upstairs and plug it into the PC?
Thanks for your help, much appreciated. -
GPS Causes 3G and Voice Connection Loss!
Ok, on my Droid X....
If I enable GPS, and open an app that requires GPS, such as Google maps.....it disconnects my 3G and voice connection.
Please offer any suggestions to cure this.
Thanks!
Billit seems like maybe its a coincidence that the hardware gps went out about the same time.
Thanks for the tip. Downgraded with no change. It seems that its either gps on and no connection or connection/data and no gps. They refuse to be on at the same time.
Called CS today, they think its a hardware issue and I agree. Getting a replacement sent. -
Slow internet speeds and constant disconnections
Hi, when i first got BT broadband (unlimited option) i was getting 2mbps, now it seems that i can barely go past 100kbs. Strangely enough all internet speed tests i do results show that i get around 1mbps, but that is not what i am getting. If i download something i can barely browse the internet due to it taking all the 100kbs.

Since getting BT broadband my router has been constantly loosing connection and at points restarting itself. I could live with that due to the nice speed i was getting. If anyone could please help me i would appreciate it very much. There are noticeable speed issues however you noise margin is high at 22.4 normal default is 6db when reduced to that level your connection speed would increase and like wise your download speed you could contact the forum mods and ask them to reset your noise margin this is a link to them

Slow speeds and lost connection
Hi
I am a new infinity customer joined first week of Feb2012 hoping to get speeds up 37mbps but from day one could not get more than 5mbps spoke to the guys in India who were very helpful and tried to do all they can to get me going had 4 engineers visit me and change modem and 3 HH3 but still no change this has been going on now for nearing two months now . I then got a call from the open reach team saying that they had found the fault and would be putting a fix on it and I should be up and running on the 29th of March which has now come and gone but nothing has happened and now the broadband has gone off for the last 4 day with no update from the Openreach Team as to when it will come on line There seems to be a lack of communication between the Openreach team and the Indian team and the customer this is bad customer service and needs to be sorted out if this carry on BT will have a lot of customers walking away from them and going else where .Hope some one from the Openreach team reads this and gets this resolved.
Solved!
Go to Solution. The mods team say the problem is solved but I still have no connection and its now 21Days without a connection was also told that the mods team will get back to me but that even has not happened and all I get from the various teams of BT people is we are sorry about it and we are working on it promise dates come and go but no fixes in sight I have had 5 engineers arrive to my house but none can fix the problem now I have been told that they are waiting for a part and don't know when they are going to get it and this is a leading edge company who advertise heavily saying it is the fastest broadband around and they can't even get me and load more people in my area up and running

RTL8111/8168B and constant connection hang-ups
Hello everyone,
I've already posted the same topic in the newbie corner and didn't get any responses so I'm trying here. Maybe someone will sympathize with me this time... The problem is that my internet connection just hangs at some random point or another. It sometimes happens when I'm uploading with 10 MBps, it sometimes happens when I'm just playing nethack. In both cases it can be fixed with just running rc.d restart net-profiles, nevertheless I'm pretty annoyed with this whole thing by now.

I have also blacklisted r8169 via /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.
any help would be dearly appreciated.I'm having the same issues with my ethernet card using r8168 (r8169 is broken in other ways).
dmesg is filled with "stalled" messages and sometimes stack traces that don't really point to the source, it's driving me nuts.
It just hangs for half a minute at a time in a very peculiar way, audio and video keeps playing, but everything else is frozen, the UI, the mouse, no reaction to keyboard.

Ipad speed and wifi loss of connection
I updated my ipad 3 to iOS 7 version and it runs so slow now, it is so painful to use that I almost can't stand it, I've noticed the drop in performance, as soon as I upgraded the software.. Can I change it back, is there a fix for this..
Also, the ipad constantly drops its wifi connection since the update, Mysore upgraded his iphone 4 and it also drops the connection...?
Any idea sits very frustratingSome things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Speed connection loss issue since mid December
Morning all here,
We've been having speed problems since the middle of December. We've had BT Total broadband since January 2009 with a very consistant and reliable 3-4 Mbps download speed, but since arround the 13th of Dec when we had a 24 hr power cut the line has never recovered. I've had a good look round the forum here re possible solutions and suggestions, tried all the tricks re the Openreach master socket faceplate, new microfilters etc but its not attainng the service we used to have.
Stats and speed test as of this morning attached below, we'd much appreciate it if someone here can have a look. The home hub 2 has been on for about 14 days now, but apeared to loose and reacquire connection on christmas morning. We were away for three days over that period but there was no power failure so it wasnt the route being power cycled.

GordonThanks for the reply imjolly
I haven't done a quiet line test yet, I was trying to leave the hub online as long as possible over xmas to see if things improved, I had tried the hub in the master socket behind the faceplate, but there was no diference between speed tests with it plugged in there instead of the front faceplate socket or the extension it normaly sits in someplace else in the house.
Interestingly, I've just 5 mins ago spoken to my next door neighbour, he's just had an openreach chap in testing the line not half an hour ago. His homehub has turned out to have been fried during the power outage on the 13th Dec., its running slow and unreliably dropping out now and then. Openreach chap took it apart and you could see the damage to the circuit he said.
Now, where do we go from here, that doesn't involve having to speak to BT India I wonder? Should I have a peak inside our router or make the dreded phone call......aaaggghhhh..
Thanks for you attention again.

Broadband Speed and Connection Problem
Since the 03/03/11 I have has problems with the speed and stability of my broadband connection.
The IP profile of my connection has now become significantly smaller than my downstream, suggesting that my line had become unstable.
I have checked the internal wiring, the micro-filters and the router, and changing any combination of these does not re-stabilise the line nor offers any speed improvements.
The downstream listed below has gone down over the last couple of days, once again suggesting a line fault somewhere.
I have contacted BT support about this issue via email.
If anyone else has any ideas of what I could try to help sort this out, I would be very thankful
Hopefully I have provided enough information below to allow any sort of diagnosis to be made, but I'm placing my bets on a line fault caused by the bad weather lately.
Speed test (via speedtest.net) gives the following values: (Download: 14.2 kB/s) (Upload: 35.8 kB/s) (Ping: 492ms)

No idea why it says "135 kbps" as im obviously getting nothing near that.
One example is "counter-strike" online multiplayer game, when i load it, my Latency is at a normal 40-50.. then it shoots up to 5-600, making it unplayable.
Maybe its the exchange i dunno, might just sort it-self out in the next couple days, but its been 3 days now so im a bit concerned. -
Very slow upload speeds and packet loss
I have the exact same issue as the following threads.

https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/extremely-low-upload-speeds-and-high-latenc...
My download speed is around 36M and my upload speed on speed tests either fails to connect or I get around 0.5M. Pinging google leads to frequent none responses, probably on average 1 in ever 8 pings fails.
I have rebooted the router, reset the router to factory settings and disconnected all devices apart from 1 clean CentOS desktop pc to do the speed test and still get the same results. Could someone please give me details so I can get this investigated properly and soon as it is effecting my work.Still experiencing unusable upload speeds, can someone please help me with this? Below is todays test.

I have an ipad2. When connected to my wifi at home it will not download you tube videos for easy viewing. Do I need to upgrade my connection speed? Would 3 Mbps be enought or do I need to go to 6 Mbps. I mainly use my ipad to view emails, browse the internet and watch you tube videos.

There are a number of factors in the 'speed' equation. Any or all of them can affect the 'observed' speed of your connection.
1. Are you in a neighborhood full of WiFi routers (and thus, lots of WiFi interference)? I can 'see' at least 22 other WiFi routers from my living room!
2. What is the maximum connect speed and band and bandwidth available from your wireless router. Is it 802.11n or the older 802.11a/b/g? 300Mbits or 150Mbits? 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz or both? Does your router measure (QoS) Quality of Service and can it change 'channels' automatically?
3. What is the observed strength of your wireless connection? Are you getting at least 80% signal when connected? Are there other people in your family also using significant bandwidth at the same time (Netflix, streaming video, streaming audio, game systems)
4. What is the "advertised" speed of your current ISP connection?
5. What is the measured throughput of your current setup. Go to speedtest.net or use the free speedtest.net app available in the App Store. Try several times, from different locations in your home, and at different times of day and night.
I have AT&T DSL advertised at 3Mbit/sec down and 512Kbit/sec up. My Speedtest.net measured throughput is about 2.4 Mbit/sec downstream and upstream is about 0.4Mbit/sec. I'm using a Motorola Netopia 2210-2 DSL modem. I have no problem viewing YouTube videos and other mobile video content on the iPad 2. I'm connected wirelessly to a D-Link DIR-655 Gigabit router rated at 150Mbps at 2.4Ghz (only) with 802.11 b/g/n enabled. The interior of my home is within a range of 30-50 feet from the router and no more than 1 wall. It is a single level concrete slab foundation of about 1500 sq. ft. with cathedral ceilings. I have successfully streamed ESPN3.com on my MacBook at the same time my son was streaming another ESPN3.com game on his MacBook Pro. I've streamed YouTube videos while my son was watching a NetFlix movie on his Wii game system. He's also successfully used Skype for extended 'teleconferences.' None of my devices are connected to HDMI on a large screen TV. 95% of the time, I can do iChat video without any signal breakup to my son (who is at a college with a Gigabit (1000Mbit) wired connection!). 5% of the time the connection drops. We haven't tried FaceTime (designed for mobile connections to be much less bandwidth-intensive, from what I understand) simply because we both have iChat on our computers.
So for me, a 3Mbit DSL connection is absolutely adequate, given all the other parameters mentioned. As the car manufacturers say, "Your mileage may vary."
