Pre IMAP (Dovecot) - Success! Finally

Just in case it helps someone else - finally go this working.
I had the usual problem mentioned by many that the SSL cert. of my server is not accepted by the pre. I followed the advice in the forums - got the cert. put it in certificate manager and tried again.
RANT: PALM GUYS:it is extremely anything that each time you fail to connect and then leave mail or restart all the mail account info is lost - I found no way to save the server settings when sign in failed).
Needless to say it did not work.
RANT: I next tried to use the Live Chat free support - what a laugh this would not start in firefox on windows so I tries IE but that also failed to start the client so I tried FireFox on Linux also failed - (Nice one Palm).
Ok so then I call Palm Support - that's a mistake clearly these guys know very little about SSL and make me do all the same stuff I just did and then tell me  "if it does not work your certificate is not compatible with the palm pre". What crap - I spent an hour on the phone for that. They tell me flash the phone and try again .. Interesting.
Ok so now I decide to fix this this morning. I think perhaps I should not trust my IT guys and
go and look what certificate actually is coming from the Server .. This pretty easy actually not sure why palm support say get it from the admin people. You just need to run openssl like this
openssl s_client   -connect  themailserverort
Where serverort is your server and usually 993.
When you run this part of what comes back is the
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
-----END CERTIFICATE-----
take all that and paste it in a file called themailserver.cert
I note this is not the same one my IT guys gave me.
Connect the pre with USB put that file on there (anyplace I put it in a folder called docs where I have other stuff). Use the certificate manager (device info-> preferences) to load and trust it.
Reenter the mail server settings AGAIN.
Magic it works. No flashing, no resetting , no "incompatible certificate"
So after one week I almost have a fully working Pre - I can not say I am very happy. I only bought Palm because I always had a palm but there is actually no connection between this and the T5. In most cases the T5 is more sophisticated.

I got my Palm Pre Plus 3 weeks ago. Back then I synced it to my main e-mail account at AT&T Yahoo and then also my e-mail sub account at AT&T Yahoo. Both synced fine but now a few days ago, my sub account is giving the SSL error (my main default account seems fine). I'm a real idiot with this stuff so I don't know how to fix this - or why it worked the first few weeks and now suddenly doesn't.  I tried syncing yet a third email account today and the Palm says "the server's security certificate is not valid for login.yahoo.com." It offers me the chance to type it manually, but I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I guess I have to call Palm support...

  • Email on my Pre - IMAP username and password not working

I am trying to set up my work email on my new Palm Pre.  I am using the identical settings as I did (successfully) in my Treo 755p.  IMAP server, SSL, etc.  But on the Pre I always get an error message that my username or password are incorrect.  My username is inordinately long (32 characters) and I am wondering if the Pre has a maximum and it's not passing the full username onto the server?  Or maybe something else?  Super frustrating for sure.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I use IMAP accounts with self-signed certs, which didn't seem to work... so I had to choose unsecured for both my incoming and outgoing email. Can you setup the account if you select unsecured (assuming your server allows unsecured connections)?

  • Can I have multiple pre tests and a final test?

    Hi,
I want to create  unit whereby I have small pre-tests (5) to check knowledge, they must get answer ciorrect to continue. Then i want to create a final test at the end of the project.
Is this posisble or do i need to have different projects?
    Many thanks
    FS

I think trying to get feedback to work with Survey Questions using Advanced Actions would be a lot more trouble than it's worth.
Also, using Pretest questions is not the answer because they're very limiting in other ways. They MUST all be at the beginning of the project BEFORE the main quiz, and they disable the playbar for the entire module. (This is by design.)  The way Pretests currently work is not usually what authors are looking for.
If setting ordinary quiz question slides to zero points and deselecting the option to Include in Quiz is NOT enough for you, then I suggest you resort to creating your own 'question' slides via other methods such as building them from default interactive objects available in Captivate.  You can use widgets or buttons or Smart Shapes or Text Entry boxes to replicate most of the other question types.

  • IWeb Publish Success - Finally

I have blasted my anger at Apple all over these boards and elsewhere over the debacle that iWeb has been everytime it is updated, and the continuing quality problems with the software. Upload has been a less than "it just works" experience, as indicated by the literally thousands of messages on this board with frustrated users.
This weekend, I fought with this application for hours, attempting on multiple occasions to get a site to upload. Publish All was immediately returning quota errors. I deleted ALL plists in the Domain file, and attempted the upload. No luck. I then resorted to deleting nearly 900 MBytes of content from my iDisk, and doing the upload. The upload ran ALL night, and failed with a network error. I tried again. Same problem. Most everything was uploaded, but something at the end choked the software, resulting in the error.
I then culled about 200 MBytes of stuff off my website - a couple of large client videos, and attempted to republish just the changes. This process ran for nearly six hours, and my data transfer speed to .mac never got above 52K per second. It was grueling, but finally is succeeded. The long transfer time was unbelievable, as the changes involved deleting about 200 MBytes of content, and uploading an additional 20 MBytes or so. The transfer process slowed to a crawl, before finally completing.
I have done several update publishes over the past 24 hours, and have gotten success.
While I am very happy to finally be getting content to publish, I am very uneasy about the stability of the iWeb/.mac combination. I am concerned about the publishing problems which arise everytime an update comes down, and don't have a good feeling about having to delete my entire collection of sites and reupload to fix a combination of software and .mac communication problems.

I am looking for alternatives for iWeb and .mac. The thing is, though, that giving Apple a pass on this because of the low price tag on iWeb is a cop out. .Mac is NOT cheap. Apple's hardware is competitive price-wise, and the software perks of the OS X experience, coupled with the iLife experience are great, but we still pay a premium. I buy Macs and stick with Macs specifically for this level of integration and convenience. Inexpensive should not translate to "works sometimes." This is not what Apple is selling in their ads.
On paper, .mac, iWeb, and other iLife applications are ideal for my workflow. I have the need simply to be able to post video project "proofs" for client review, as well as photo proofs. This is not really heavy lifting so far as web development and hosting is concerned. The pages themselves need not be complex. I just want the ease of being able to click a button and publish, have the client make comments, go back to Final Cut, make a few changes, click and publish again. The main effort of my tasks shouldn't be the web aspect... that is just a tool. My effort should be in the video production and multimedia production aspect. iWeb on paper is ideally suited for this sort of thing - Large video files does not translate into heavy sites - the html is the same regardless. And the fact that Apple gives us up to several gigs of online storage for our subscription with varying levels of bandwidth usage, should not preclude posting large video files.
The inexpensive price tag of iWeb is probably a loss-leader for Apple. This drives subscription sales of .mac, and indeed, drives sales of Macs themselves. This is no excuse for this software NOT working as advertised.

  • IMAP Dovecot Error - Corrupted index cache 10.6.4

My CEO reported that he was unable to find a series of emails sent to and received from a specific email address. As the day progressed, we discovered that additional emails were missing.
When checking the IMAP Mail Logs I noticed a number of emails for his UID had the following error:

    Any ideas?

I am not sure if this is the best procedure and there may be unintended consequences, but this is what I did to resolve the issue.
    I stopped the mail service.
From a shell, I navigated to each directory where an issue was reported.
In these directories, I renamed the following files, prepending them with "old."
    dovecot.index
    dovecot.index.cache
    dovecot.index.log
    EXAMPLE: mv dovecot.index old.dovecot.index
I then restarted the mail service. These 3 files were recreated for each IMAP folder on client access.

  • E61 IMAP IDLE - success

I'm setting up an E61 for a neighbour to use with his email server (Dovecot IMAP). After browsing various forums it looks like lots of people are complaining about the imap idle implementation on this phone.
After doing lots of testing and packet sniffing I've found the following, which hopefully will be of some use to other users.
By default, the email application does not start up when the phone is powered on. You can start it manually of course, but if you want automatic email notifications you have to be careful not to close the app (all too easy by pressing the "end call" key).
However, if the app is set to do automatic retrieval then it will give notifications without having to explicitly start the app - *so long as* the interval is set to 30 mins.
What seems to happen is that if the interval is set to 2 hours or more, the application connects, checks email, and disconnects as per the schedule. No "IDLE" command is ever sent by the phone. Obviously no good for Push-email....
However, if the interval is set to 30 mins, imap idle comes into play. On powering up the phone it connects to the server, checks email and then issues the IDLE command *and leaves the data connection open*. Then, 29 minutes later, it sends "DONE", then immediately sends "IDLE" again (rather than doing a data-intensive standard polling for new mail).
I've had the phone running in this configuration for a couple of days now over 3G and it has been 100% reliable.
The trick seems to be to use 30-mins "auto-retrieve", but this is badly worded - it could be called "Enable IMAP IDLE" on the phone. Even though it talks to the server every 30 mins (29 and a few seconds actually....), it is a very small amount of data - just enough to keep the server happy and comply with the imap idle rfc's, and does not seem to drain the battery.
Hope this all made sense and is of some use to someone....
    In short - 30min auto-retrieve = phone sends "IDLE" & "DONE", push-email works.
2 hours or more - phone never sends "IDLE" and always disconnects from server after checking mail.
Phone is on "3" network in the UK and the firmware is 2.0618.06.05

I tried setting up the 30 minute interval. It does work as desired, but is not without hiccups.
    a) If the server gets disconnected, it takes around 30-35 minutes to get connected again. This is acceptable, as atleast it should work predictably.
    b) If you move between two zones, say from my office to my home, the connection of my E61 to the IMAP Server gets broken. If I check my mail before the E61 tries to resend the IDLE command it'll try to retrieve it, and then hang-up. After that, specially in the latest firmware 3.0633.09.04, I cannot even kill the client. Either I restart the phone, or crash the phone manually (by going into Options -> Find, searching for a text, and then clicking Options again). The client is dead, and so is the functionality of the Messaging Key. Then it'll start every half hour, connect, check the mail and disconnect (since 30 mins was the time period specified for polling).
If this is going to be the functionality, then I think having POP3 set to 30 minutes interval is more suited since atleast it'll retrieve some portion of the mail as well rather than ONLY the headers as in the case of IMAP.
If anyone can help with the questions below
    1. Can't I just set the phone to check mail at 5 minute interval - i.e. Connect, Check Mail, Disconnect, after 5 minutes again Connect & so on. This happens wonderfully if you set the auto-retrieval to 5 minutes and manage to crash the mail application. It'll connect, check mail and disconnect without complaining. Only the Messaging Key will not work, and crashing the application also is difficult :-(
    2. Is it possible to use an IMAP Server which does not support IDLE, so the client cannot remain connected to the server? I tried disabling the IDLE capability in Courier IMAP but it didn't work.
    3. Can we use any Linux based mail server which can support ActiveSync, so the Mail For Exchange client can be used rather than the Nokia IMAP Client. Mail For Exchange seems to be much more robust (I'd checked out mail2web.com).
Sometimes I feel that since Nokia is promoting all Push Mail Clients on E61 which are available for a fee, it deliberately does not try to improve the IMAP IDLE support since it may encroach upon the subscription based Push Mail Solutions. Wish Camera Phones were allowed in my office, so would've gone for a Palm Treo with Chattermail.

  • Pre Mastering/levels on final mix

I am fairly new to LogicPro. My levels in PT were pretty good on final mixes..I have been messin' around for several weeks with Logics master plugs(adaptive limiter/compressors) on 1-2 but levels seem still pretty low. Any suggestions to boost it up without destroying the mix? also would i put a limiter before or after a compressor on 1-2 ?Thank you

How are your individual tracks? Is the mix level itself (not the mastering level) satisfactory?
All depending on the song, I usually use the Multipressor/EQ/Adaptive Limiter (usually in this order, but not always at the same time). Sometimes if it fitting, I will stick in the Stereo Spreader in the chain. Mind you, I will often A/B the results to see if the plug-ins made it sound better or just louder (if it's just louder, I'll take it out).
Check your settings on the Adaptive Limiter. You may be able to squeeze a bit more gain out of your final result without making a sonically mushy brick. Like I stated earlier, I also add in the Multipressor at times as it can bring out a little sparkle (or oomph, depending on the sound) in the mix when used judiciously. Mind you, if you use it, pay attention to the bands you are working on. Otherwise, you will wind up destroying the mix.

  • Reporting successful installation of Acrobat 9.2 patch--finally!

    Hi everyone,
After struggling with this issue for a long time, same as many in this forum, I DID IT!
Before I tell you how, here's my configuration:
Macbook Pro, OSX 10.5.8, Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 installed. I could not get it to update it to any version at all. I could not uninstall it either. It was just stuck there. (My hunch is that with all my attempts to update, something got corrupted.) In addition, just clicking on the program icon would slow Finder down to a crawl. This was going on for months....
So I decided to go for broke. Downloaded AppCleaner and zapped Acrobat Pro 9 plus whatever associated files it pointed to. I don't know how clean of an uninstall it was, but it worked (and I think it was an essential part of the process) ....
Then I re-installed Acrobat Pro 9.0 from my original CS4 CDs.
Then I downloaded and installed all of the Acrobat Pro patches released since CS4 came out --
    Please note: you need them all:  9.1.0 -- 9.1.1 -- 9.1.2 -- 9.1.3-- and finally 9.2.0.
And ta - ta, success finally!
By the way, it sounds far more complicated and time-consuming than it was. Before I did this, every single attempt took longer than this entire process because of the way Acrobat Pro was crippling Finder (just to update the patches, the program ran just fine).
I'm sharing my experience in the hope that some will find it helpful.
Good luck, and don't give up!

I have installed 9.2.0 on a G4 PowerBook17" laptop and I did have some difficulity.
The automatic update would not work. what I did in My case was:
Deleted my version of Acrobat locating all components related to Acrobat. (PDF's were left alone).
    I downloaded from Adobe's website  all updates for Acrobat 9.1, 9.1, 9.1.1, 9.1.3, and 9.2.0
I updated manually each one opening Acrobat and quiting between each update (running Disk Utility and repairing permissions in between each update.
That is not to say you will have a problem.  I don't usually have problems with Acrobat updates in fact this is the first one I have had a problem.  And I've been using Acrobat since Acrobat 3.

  • PSE 8 & PRE 8 Unstall Error

I have purchased PSE 11 and PRE 11 (Downloaded but not installed yet). I am trying to uninstall PSE 8 and PRE 8 without success.
PRE 8 finally completed, but all program files still exist in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0\
PSE 8 will not complete. It fails with message:
Error 1316: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\Windows\Installer\Adobe Photoshope Elements 8.0.msi
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Here is an update and a workaround.  I hope it's helpful to others as well.
After receiving lots of views, but not receiving any suggestions, I decided to uninstall PSE 8, but kept getting an ERROR 1316 message.  After additional searching I found MicrosoftFixIt, a free download that enabled me to uninstall PSE 8 and Premier Elements 8, where I had encountered the identical amtlib.dll BAD IMAGE error message described in my initial post.
I then reinstalled both programs, and now everything is fine.

  • Dovecot mail_location

    The /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf file includes:-
    mail_location = maildir:/var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail/%u
%u is a variable that represents the user's name. But, as explained in the 10.6 Mail documentation, the final folders are NOT the user's name, but in fact their GUID, a long alpha numeric string.
Can someone explain HOW this is being set? Why are the folders not using the users' names? Is there a setting somewhere I cannot find that says %u should be the GUID and not the username?
I'm trying to recover some mail here and I need to understand things before I can figure out how to do it, so would appreciate some assistance with this.
    Thanks.

The problem was that the IMAP prefix was originally set to "~". This was from when I was using a linux server and wanted mail stored in the home folder. Cyrus however seems to deal with the "~" differently, but was happy to work with it as just a regular character, so mail was no longer in the user's home folder, which now suited me better so I didn't look into it any further.
However, upgrading to Snow Leopard Server and Dovecot meant that all the mail folders were stored by Dovecot as ".~.whatever.thefolder.nameis", including e.g. ".~.Drafts". On first starting Mail on the client after the upgrade, the mail all appeared to be there, but there was obviously a problem and I concluded was that although Cyrus could deal with the "~", Dovecot could not.
So, I moved all the local mail up one level out of the "~" folder and threw that folder away. Then I renamed all the Dovecot mail folders to remove the ".~" at the beginning. Reset the client's Mail IMAP path to empty and started the Mail Service on the server. After some activity all the mail is there and accessible, so it basically worked and I'm no longer stuck with that spurious "~" IMAP path prefix. However, many messages are now showing as unread, although not all which is bizarre, but relatively easy to fix, if a bit tedious.
So all I'm left with now is the %u - GUID puzzle.
I understand what the GUID is and that they might want to use that instead of the username, but what I cannot understand is that the dovecot.conf file explicitly states mail_location as /var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail/%u, but the actual folders it creates and uses are /var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail/GUID. So what is telling it to do something different from its own conf file? Where is the configuration parameter that says "use GUID and NOT the username"? That's what I don't get.

  • Changing from POP to IMAP

I set up an account that I previously accessed through a web mail application, and Apple's Mail application automatically put in the settings. Unfortunately, it set the account up as a POP account instead of IMAP, so the first thing Mail did was download all 1,000+ emails stored on the server, and delete those emails from the server.
I want to change this account to an IMAP account, but it looks like the only way to do that would be deleting the POP account, and I would then lose all the emails (which are no longer on the server). Is there some way to restore these emails to the server? If so, I'd just delete the POP account and replace it with an IMAP account. I still use web mail to access this account when I'm on the go, so it would be great if the old emails were still there.
    Thanks!

    Not quite there...
Created a IMAP account successfully (for my older POP that I temporarily took it offline) but there wasn't any Sent folder for the new IMAP created.
I am afraid to delete the old POP because the Sent folder will be gone as well.
Should I do a temporary mailbox to drag all the Sent items from the POP account?
    thanks,
    Gabster

  • Problems with the new MacBookPro and Final Cut???

Got this from a friend of mine, and wondered if y'all could provide any insights.
    Thanks in advance.

    " ...the water walkers are
discussing the "Steve Givith - Steve Taketh" concerning the new powerbooks.
Along with the hardware downsides: no Firewire 800; only one USB port; the Superdrive has reduced features from the existing one in the IBM processor version; and no internal modem.
On the software side - and the reason for this note, the new "Mac Book" cannot run software that is keyed to the CPU of earlier Mac models. That means that where Apple or the vendor keyed the ability of an application
to run to the G3 or G4 or ALTIVEC engine, that program will no longer
operate in the new Mac Book. (This true?)
    Bringing that closer to home:

which will run natively on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Mac computers,
will be available before the end of March 2006. (Will that be backward compatible with the pre Intel Macs?)

==> notice that the "universal version" sentence is not found on the
Apple website under Final Cut Express.
Any clues or contacts who can sort this out?"

    From the keynote:
Universal Binary versions of the Pro software (Final Cut Pro, etc) will be available by the end of March 2006. It will cost $49 for current owners of the most-recent version of Final Cut Studio to get this Universal version.
Look at this page as well:

Yes. All owners of Final Cut Studio can purchase the Universal version for $49."

  • 10.6.8 IMAP - Clients can't receive email

I am running a IMAP mail server on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which had been running fine for 1+ year.. It is located at my residence. Long story short, after a power outage/cable outage Comcast just decided to block port 25 on my residence which made me have to switch my SMTP port to 587. After much muddling around, I got that to go, but now clients can't recieve emails. I have turned on debug logging on the mail server, but I can't see anything to explain it. Eventually, the messages are kicked back to the sender (as a test, I sent from my mobile me account) with the following
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 22:55:56 +000 (GMT) TCP active open: No addresses found for host Error: Connection timed out.
However, I can't see any activtiy in the server side logs. DNS possibly?
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Here are the logs from the IMAP (last group of timestamps). Are there any other logs that would be useful?

  • Error 5002 when trying to download a pre-order.

When I try and download the new Good Charlotte album, which I preordered, I get the following message:
We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error has occurred (5002).
There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later.
I've contacted the iTunes help people, but they seem to be utterly unhelpful. At one point they even told me I was having problems downloading a pre-order I successfully downloaded in June!
Having looked around the site and the discussions, I've tried many of the things that are listed as remedies for similar problems - I've shortened my computer name, turned off one-click and turned it back on, repaired permissions, etc - but the problem is still occurring.
I've noticed that other people are complaining that they are unable to connect to the ITMS with the new version of iTunes (7.1.1.) I wonder if this is related somehow?
I tried downloading the free song, to find out if it was a problem with my connection, but that downloaded fine.
If anyone could help me I'd be very appreciative. Thanks very much.

The album was released on the 27th March this year, so the error occurred almost immediately after it was supposedly available.
In the manage pre-orders section of my account, it says AVAILABLE but does not give me any choice over whether to download it, just to cancel it. Is this normal?
iTunes customer services reset my password and tried to download the album themselves, but they also got the 5002 error, so it's been passed off to the engineers. How long does that usually take?
If anyone has any other suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
