Pre-iPhoto library merging with iPhoto

Hi all, recently I got myself a new Macbook Pro with it came the latest iPhoto program. I have now approx 2.6 GB of photos managed by iPhoto. I actually quite like the program with face detection etcetera. My events are named like this: reversed date_description (for example 110430_Wedding). The reason why I use names like this is because in this manner in Finder the folders will be listed in the chronological order. I used this method before I started using iPhoto.
I also have a photo library of around 32 GB with the same file name structure as mentioned above and just using Finder to manage it. I would like to use iPhoto to manage both libraries and thus need to merge / import the libraries but have some queries:
- will iPhoto become sluggish after importing 32 GB with a total library of roughly 35 GB?
- if I import my older photos will iPhoto use the existing folder names for the events (or do I have to type it all in again)?
- if I import my older photos will iPhoto use the dates in the exif file to arrange the events (something which I do not want to happen)?
- if I export my merged library what will the names of the folders be called?
- what would be recommended as a backup strategy (manually copying it to an external hard drive)?
- would you recommend another photo managing program for me?

No - iPhoto handles that size library just fine - it is rated for up to 250,000 photos

If you drag each existing folder onto the iPhoto window it will create events matching them

Yes - iPhoto uses the EXIF dates for photos - events can be sorted by several methods (view menu ==> sort events)

What ever you name them - when you export you say where to pace the exported photos

That is one way -- I use Time machine to create a time based set of backups p;us a nightly clone of my entire system including iPhoto to give me a bootable exact copy as of the clone time - plus an occasional Tm backup at a second location - my photos ( and other data) are valuable to me and worth trying to save from software/hardware/human failure
- would you recommend another photo managing program for me?
That is strictly a personal decision - I choose iPhoto - TD uses iPhoto and Aperature - Old Toad uses anoher DAM mostly and iPhoto for projects primarily

A query on iPhoto 6 SOMETIMES displays up to 250 tech notes for the release on Apple's support site. Sometimes it shows nothing. I suspect their servers are still updating. These caught me eye.

I am beginning to think that Apple considers "library merge" to be a hard cutoff between iPhoto and Aperture. If you need to manipulate multiple Libraries, you need Aperture. Absurd. I have no other explanation for why this is not supported however.

For those that get this annoying message which

the problem by quitting iPhoto, trash the file,

I have just encountered the same problem after printing a large number of photos (not pdfs) with no probs iphoto print or print preview suddenly started coming up with the same message when using an Epson Photo R210 printer. Unfortunately I do not have the ...iphoto.plist file in the location suggested even though other .plist files exist for other applications. Any ideas? My problem occurred when I staretd using the 4X6 print size. Nothing I change fixes it though.

I have tow itunes libraries. Music from one library has merged with the other and I can not delete the songs. They keep coming back.

I have two ipod touch libraries under my account. One for my daughter and one for me. I bought my daughter an Iphone and then opened her ipod touch libraryon the computer (Windows Vista). I plugged in her iphone so that she can have the stuff from her ipod touch on her new phone. Somehow her library has partially merged with my library. My ipod touch now has some of HER games and music on it. I went into my library and deleted these games and songs, but they keep coming back. How do I get rid of these once and for all. I don't want to be shuffling AC/DC, Rob Zombie, and then get Justin Bieber all of a sudden while sitting at a red light in traffic.

Images blurry when merged with background - Captivate 5

I am trying to merge my buttons and several text boxes onto the background in order to keep file size down. When I merge with the background the buttos become blurry and the test is blurry. Any suggestions on how to correct this issue?

If the only reason is to keep the file size down then it is pointless as merging them with the background will not reduce the file size as they are still images. If they are image buttons ie not interactive than you could try placing them on a master slide. You only need to place the images once into the library then drag them from the library to reuse and captivate will be only using the image size once reducing file size and using the one image multiple times.

Hi, I have updated my MacPro, Iphone and Ipad and installed the Icloud. My Ipod merges with the Ipad and visa versa but neither merges with the notebook nor does the notebook merge with them.

I have updated my MacBook Pro, my Iphone 4 and my Ipad2. My Iphone merges with the Ipad via ICloud and visa versa, but neither merge with the notebook nor does the notebook merge with them. there are no further updates on my notebook to download, any suggestions?

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet. It's not designed to. if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2. Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

Merging with microsoft account

I had one skype account which I deleted because I didnt like the username. My microsoft account was merged with that skype account.
Now I have created a new Skype account and I want to merge the same microsoft account with this new skype account. But I am unable to do so.
When I try to login using microsoft credentials it just say that the account has been suspended for my security. I had two live chat with skype support but thay are unable to resolve the problem.

under normal circumtances, one can easily unlink their Microsoft account with a certain Skype account (https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12211/how-do-i-unlink-my-skype-and-microsoft-or-facebook-accounts), then merge it with another Skype username.
However, in your case, as it seems that there are possible issues related to your microsoft account, you may need to settle the issue first and only the customer support can assist you with that. You can try to contact them again to know what your possible options are.

How can I use a shared library made with the application builder?

I am using LabVIEW 7.1 running on Slackware 10.1 (kernel 2.4.29) and I am trying to call a graph display from a C program that I use for debugging VME access from a VMIVME controler. So using the application builder I built the VI as a shared library (graph.vi -> graph.so) containing a function called "graph". In my main program the call to the dlopen fails with the error: "graph.so: undefined symbol: UninitLVClient". When I examin graph.so with nm I see that UninitLVClient and other LabVIEW functions are indeed undefined and using ldd shows that graph.so has dependencies only on libc.so.* and *linux*.so.* but not on LabVIEW related stuff. Those functions are defined in the liblv.so that's in the cintools directory but I have no idea if the user is supposed to use that.
So I think I am missing an important concept here. Can somebody help or direct me to some documentation (I found lots of information about how to link external code to LabVIEW but nothing about how to link LabVIEW code to an external program)?

your message has been very useful so now I am linking to the proper library but I still have problems when trying to load dynamically the shared library produced with LabVIEW. It is strange that I could successfully load the lvrt library at loading time but it does not work when I am loading the library at execution time.
I made a small LabVIEW program that prints a hello window and I am calling it from a C program. In the first program main.c I am linking to the lvrt library at loading time and it works but in the second one I am linking dynamically at execution time and it does not work. For my work I need to be able to load code done in LabVIEW at execution time. Any help is appreciated!

Changed apple ID BUT i cloud not merging with new ID..still on the previous one

i have changed my Apple ID but my I Cloud has not merged with the new ID and is still on the previous ID and there is no option to try and change it ??

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Can I share music library's with different apple ID accounts

I would like to share music library's with my daughter. However, she has a differet User ID then myself. Is this still possible?
So far I have set up home sharing and auhorized her computer.
I can see and play the music in her library.
However, I am not able to copy any of her purchased music into my library.

It's ok to share the same AppleID for iTunes. Use Separate ID's for iCloud, iMessage, and Facetime.

Contacts merged with device that shares the same iTunes account as me

My husband and I share the same itunes account on our phones so whenever he downloads something new it downloads on my phone as well and vice-versa.
Just recently, after iOS 6 update, we noticed that his contacts merged with my iPhone & my contacts have merged with his. Also, he is getting notifications from an app that we share... But the notifications are from MY friends on facebook. The app is called voxer and whenever someone (from my Facebook friends) sign up, my husband gets the notification. Which is really weird because im not even signed on to Facebook on his phone. Somehow my information has merged with his phone and his mine. Why is this? Is there a way I can make things back to normal? Thanks in advanced.

Sounds like you may be syncing your contacts to the same iCloud account on both phones if your contacts are merged. You can share the same iTunes account for purchasing apps and music, but to avoid merging data you sync with iCloud you need to set up separate iCloud accounts on each phone.
To do this, first decide which phone will be changing accounts. On this phone that will be changing, go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone. After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The other phone will not be effected by this.) Next, set up a new iCloud account on this phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to this new account. At this point you will have two different iCloud accounts, one for each phone, with identical data on them.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the other person's data from your account (such as deleting your husband's contacts from your account, and vice versa). These changes will be reflected on each phone; when you're finished you will have individual iCloud accounts with just your own data on them.

Is there a way to name the .indd files created by a data merge with values in the CSV file

I have a data merge document that is set to single Record per Document page and 1 page per document. In my CSV file I have a field for Part Number. If I run a data merge with 10 records I end up with 10 .indd files. I need a way so that the resulting .indd files are named the same value that is in the Part Number field.

So there are several ways to get unique name PDFs from an indesign Data Merge. However, none of these 3 articles will truly answer your question of how to get unique indesign filenames using the database. I can see a practical purpose for this as merging business cards directly to PDFs is great, but I can be guaranteed that while on proof, there will be alts to the business cards that need to be done outside the merge, meaning specific records need to be exported to indesign files for further manipulation.

You need to connect the phone to iTunes and then try activating it from there and restoring it as new.
If you have further problems and especially as the iPhone you have bought is second hand, it could be that it is not unlocked. Are you sure that it is? If not, then you'll need to speak to the person that you purchased it from.

The same thing happened to me today. I trusted the "update" message since it was from Adobe, and apprently did so at my own peril. Now I get the "failed to load Core dll" message with a secondary reference to a memory address.
Just an observation, but what good are these forums when there are no answers? I see this problem as "Caused by Adobe Update", and would expect them to troublshoot and offer up a remedy. Since you've been waiting over two months with no response, I suppose it's time to trek off wasting more of my precious time to fix their problem. If I find the solution, I'll post it back to you.
