Pre-loading iTunes song previews: how?

I recall a few years ago iTunes had an option (via Preferences>Store tab) that allowed you to pre-load song previews rather than streaming them instantly, which was great for those unfortunate ones still on dial-up, etc. This option hasn't been in successive iterations of iTunes since.
I'm wondering if there is any way to regain this ability via Terminal command, Applescript or something. Can anyone help me out here? I just want a smoother iTunes Music Store experience when I've used up my monthly download quota and have my speed dropped down from ADSL2+ speed to 64kbps. A response would be most greatly appreciated.

A forumer on macrumors.com suggested I type in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes load-complete-preview-before-playing 1
I input the command in Terminal, opened iTunes, went into the music store, clicked on a random song and it did prebuffer the stream initially. Unfortunately after the first second it reverted back to its old behaviour ie. playing music for 5 seconds, rebuffering, play for another 5 seconds, rebuffer, etc.

Does ipod come pre-loaded with songs?

I just got a new ipod today, and see that if I go through the music menu, that there appears to be a bunch of songs there. Were these songs pre-loaded that we get? I did not put any music on my ipod yet, so it isn't anything I put it.
Some of the groups are: Canyon, Chuck Prophet....

If that were the case it would happen to everyone wouldn't it and I've never heard of this before? It doesn't load anything else? Are these songs in your iTunes?
I just don't see how the iPod can load songs from your iTunes library if they are not stored there.
Restore it as previously suggested.

If you have a song in your iTunes library, and need to find the file, right-click the library entry and use "Show in Windows Explorer." It will take you right to the folder!

MISSING ITUNES SONGS AND HOW CAN YOU PUT SONGS FROM IPOD ONTO ITUNES?

i opened my itunes one day and all 654 of my songs were GONE. the entire itunes was blank, as if it was newly installed. it wasn't.
I have an ipod mini, and that still contains the songs since i did not attach my ipod to my computer when i saw that it was empty. my ipod still has 654 songs. But the problem is, that i wont be able to put new songs if my itunes is blank.
How do you transfer songs from the ipod to the itunes? Usually when you connect the ipod, it automatically updates, so how will i be able to do that. I have new CDs and i want to put some of those songs on my ipod, but i wont be able to do that if my itunes makes my ipod blank. I called apple support but it costs 29 freaking dollars to help me.

okay, well it has been a long time since i have done this, but i will try to do it to the best of my memory.
uninstall itunes.
then reinstall it.
plug your ipod in.
a box will pop up that says something like would you like to connect your ipod to this library?
click NO.
then, on the sidebar there should be a boldfaced DEVICE sign.
your ipod should show up.
go to summary
then check managely manage my music, and then update.
this means that when you plug your ipod in, you will have to put the music in yourself. this is good because you can pick and choose, and you can delete songs off your ipod if you do not like it anymore. also, you have the ability to play the music on your computer when your ipod is plugged in. hope that helps..

I have bought some songs from itunes PLUS but I am not able to place it on my generic mp3 player. The file format is Mpeg 4 and NOT mp3 how can I listen to my songs on my non apple player ?

You can use iTunes to create an MP3 from the AAC that you pruchased in the iTunes Store. Look in iTunes Help at the article "Saving a copy of a song in a new file format."

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
YOu buy one and only one download. it is your responsibility to move copy/backup your music.

Won't load iTunes Songs

My iPod will load anything that I put into my iTunes from a CD, but nothing that I bought from iTunes. It loaded new podcasts, all of the music that had been added from CDs- even has playlists with only the CD music, but nothing from iTunes. When I checked on iTunes, everything is there and playable, it just won't load onto the iPod. I've never had this problem in the past. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on??

To what format are you trying to convert? What settings are you using? Has this just started or is this the first time trying this? I really don't know what the limitations are for iTunes 4.7. I thought I was being a luddite in sticking with 7.5....

ITunes song preview time is cutting off

In the past week or so, when I have Itunes open and sampling song, it only plays for 10 seconds. It doesn't finish the entire 30 seconds. Sometimes it only plays for 5 seconds. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my pc. My songs on both my IPhone and my IPad work perfectly. I also calle Apple Support on this and they are STILL playing dumb about this issue. I've seen other complaints on here. Does anyone have any additional Info?

N73: Problem with pre-loaded DRM songs

As highlighted in the subject , my problem is that after a formatting my phone and also my memory card, I could not play the DRM song which came with the phone (In my heart by Moby) . The formatting had erased all the activation key altogether apparently.
An email to the customer service said i could do some modifying the files to read back the license key for the song but as I had formatted the card (I thought that the Nokia Backup would backup all the things in the memory card but it proved me wrong now).
Since they could not help me there, I called the nokia careline but still a dead end there. I found some forum saying that sending a serial number from a 'scratch card' and phone number could fix that but since it's not from nokia , i decided to keep caution. Now that i'm stuck I wrote in this forum asking for help from someone who can help me with this....

Where's prebuffering complete song previews in iTunes8? Modems needs this.

In iTunes 7 there's a selection under Store to load complete song preview before playing. The alternative is to stream. Streaming doesn't work over a modem. I can't use the store without this feature.

How do I load new songs when my ipod was loaded by somone else itune acct. I have my own account and dont want to lose what I have loaded on it

I have an ipod, 4 g, my girlfriend loaded it with 700 songs but she is no longer a girlfriend and I signed up to my own itune account and want to load new songs, how can i save whats on there and also create my own data base of songs, i dont want to lose anything on the ipod

It sounds like you definitely want to turn off the auto-sync before you hook your iPod up to the computer
     To turn off Auto-sync:
    1) open iTunes
    2) Preferences -> Devices -> check the box that says "Prevent iPods from syncing automatically
That way you can manually add songs to your iPod (using iTunes) without your iPod removing the songs on it
