  • Can I use messaging in Europe even if I have a pre-paid SIM card?

I'm going to be in Spain in May and will buy a pre-paid SIM card with a local number.  As long as I have connection to the internet, via wifi or through the phone service there, will my friends and family be able to use my regular US number to text me?  Do I need to do anything to make this work before or after I get the pre-paid SIM card there?
I'd like this to be seamless for my friends and family to text me at the same number.

It makes sense, marklyn9063. If you are using a tablet overseas with WiFi, you will be able to access Verizon Messages without incurring roaming charges. However, in order to receive messages, you must have an active phone number.

  • Why can't I use a pre paid sim in my iphone that previously had a plan

I have given my iphone 3g to my daughter and she is unable to use hervodaphone pre paid sim card in it.
is it locked to telstra ?
Is it because I was previously on a plan?

Is this a MasterCard credit card issued to you by a bank in the country in which you legally reside, a MasterCard debit card issued to you by a bank in the country in which you legally reside in connection with a demand deposit account (checking/savings) that you maintain in that bank and have a verifiable billing address in that same country or is this a prepaid MasterCard debit card that you bought from a local store?

Where did you get this phone?  How was it "unlocked"?

  • Pre-paid local GSM Sim Card

I wonder if anyone try using their iPhone oversea this way...
Instead of using AT&T, I will get a pre-paid sim card from those local cell phone companies that are affilatied with the iPhone.
For example, if I go to England, I will get a pre-paid Sim card from O2.
If I go to Germany, I will get a pre-paid sim card from T-Mobile in Germany.
If I go to Japan, I will get a pre-paid sim card from Softbanks in Japan.
If I go to Hong Kong, I will get a pre-paid sim card from Three in Hong Kong.
The priority is to able to call and receive call.
    Has anyone tried this way?

i just got back from India, your best bet, is to turn your phone on airport, unless you are on wifi, so you do not incur costs.
go to the store, and but a prepaid phone for while you are there

Mandatory confirmation of self-service options, e.g. recharges, change of offer and Plus Pack purchases
Pre-Paid marketing offers with a separate opt out

It doesn't address what I needed help with
I am in Malaysia with Telstra Long Life so I can receive my banking secure code when necessary from St George. However, it never arrives in time, if at all. So basically the service is useless for me and I have wasted $80. What can be going wrong and how can i ensure I receive a bank secure code sms in time that I can use it before the banking website cuts it off?
I also cannot see on the My account page where I can get the online help. I think this should always be in the bottom corner of the page as I have spent ages looking for it - depending where you are on Telstra's site, sometimes it is there and sometimes not. VERY confusing.
    Thank you Janet Mills

  • Want to use telstra bigpond mobile wi-fi 4g as a pre-paid after finished 2 year contract

I have finished a 2 year contract and post paid plan on a Netgear aircard 760s and want to use it as a pre-paid but have been told it will not work with a pre-paid sim card. But looking up your websit for pre-paid mobile modems and it is included in the list of modems. Can I use a pre paid sim card in it or not?

If it is a BigPond plan you had then it will not work correctly if at all as the 'BigPond devices will only work on the Telstra network and with a BigPond plan', if it was a Telstra plan then it would work as these are a normal phone service.
Easiest way to tell them apart is on your bill a BigPond one will have an email address, a Telstra one will have a mobile number... otherwise the main difference is that the BigPond one is shaped/slowed and the Telstra one has excess data.
You can in theory have the BigPond ones unlocked to work with Pre-Paid however as their firmware is optimised for the BigPond service it may still not work correctly.

  • I have an IPhone 4 that I just activated yesterday with a pre paid plan, but data doesn't work

I activated the phone yesterday.  The wifi works but the 3g data does not.  I have between 3-5 bars of strength but the phone will not connect to the internet.  I had a virgin mobile pre paid phone that did not give me any trouble.  Please help.  I have done a hard reset, I have reset the network settings, as well. Neither have worked.  I have also turned the airport mode on and off, that did not work.

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode.  In this case, all data on it is gone.  There's nothing to back up.

Help! I just purchased a US sim card/monthly pre-paid plan (i am from Canada) as I am travelling in the states for a month, and when I went to restore the iphone, it didn't work. Hold on,
Have you talked to your carrier to confirm the unlock?
What was the procedure you did to unlock the phone?
Standard unlocking procedure once processed by the carrier:
    Backup in iTunes
Erase the phone (ignore restore terminology here)
Plug the phone to the computer and then launch iTunes
    Wait for unlock notification.
    Restore the backup.

  • SIM free phone = Pre-paid phone, is this correct??

I'm currently looking for a new iphone and am quite sure that iPhone 5s would be the one.
Also, this time I am interested in buying a SIM free 5s and will remain with my current provider, AT&T.
However, one of my friends said that SIM free phone is a basically pre-paid phone.
Personally I believe this is so untrue but still not quite sure about it.
So I want to know if my friend is right or not and also, if he isn't, I'd like to know
what SIM free 5s mobile plan would be and how it works or if it is basically
    same with other 2-year plans.

No. One does not equate to the other. Also, keep in mind that there is a difference between "SIM free" and "unlocked".
Service for an "unlocked" or SIM free phone will cost whatever the plan you choose from your carrier charges. Ask them what your options are.

  • I have just pre-purchased the Iphone 5 and am concerned about the Nano_SIM. I am with Telstra in Australia. How and where do I get a Nano M and how do I get my pre-paid account  onto the new SIM?

I have just pre-purchased the Iphone 5 and am concerned about the Nano_SIM. I am with Telstra in Australia. How and where do I get a Nano M and how do I get my pre-paid account  onto the new SIM?

The nano SIM should come with the phone if you set it up with a carrier.
If you purchased an unlocked phone, you'll have to contact your carrier to get a nano sim card.

  • My Itunes pre-paid card seems to be already activated

I recently created my account in app store, I don't have a credit card so I decided to use pre-paid cards, when I entered the code exactly as it was written in the card it tells me that my card code number is invalid, I have double checked the code a million times and still doesn't work. I  tried with another card and it did work. What can I do?
