Pre Plus Mobile Hotspot laptop connection issues

Hello All.
I think this is a duplicate post because I hit enter accidentally!  Sorry.
I am having a problem connecting my laptop to the internet using Mobile Hotspot through VzW.  I have activated the feature on VzW, have the software loaded on my Pre Plus and have tested it successfully with my daughter's iTouch device.  She was able to easily connect and access the web while we were in the car.
My laptop recognizes the MHS as a WiFi access and connects to it initially.  When it tries to acquire a network address, it fails.  I says that the connection has limited or no connectivity.  I cannot get on the web with that.
My question is what settings I might need to set on my laptop to help with this connectivity.  I have WAP Personal set with the appropriate Key on both devices.
Any thoughts from anyone?  I would appreciate any help.  I like the concept of the feature but not being able to connect my laptop really puts a damper on my enthusiasm!
Thanks for any help you can give.

I had the same issue. I resolved it by using a passcode that has 8 lowercase letters and no numbers...

  • Mobile hotspot drops connection when call comes in

When my laptop is connect to internet via mobile hotspot on my pre I can't receive calls on the phone without loosing the internet. Is this normal? The hotspot connection stays on, but I can't work on the internet during a phone call.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

    It's completely normal.
Sprint and Verizon use the CDMA network. It does not allow for simultaneous voice/data usage.
ATT with its GSM network does however.

  • Pre plus no voice calls connect

I know someone has had this problem before, but so far there is no real solution.
I received a pre plus from a friend who didn't want me to give up on the webos platform. I activated it just fine online, but it cannot connect to any voice call.
data traffic is fine, works both directions
    phone shows active to verizon
3G and 1x show active on the phone
ran webos doctor a few times
    ran through the reprogramming
    reset the Sid
verizon tier 2 support gave up and said they wouldn't be able to help any more, so I'm stuck now.
hopefully someone knows what's up and how to fix it.

Do you hear any sound at all from the phone?
Could be the headphone jack is stuck.

  • Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) won't connect to Exchange Server

I have been on the phone for 3 days (purchased the Pre from Verizon the day it came out) and have been unable to connect to my companys email server. I have had a Palm Treo 755 for yrs, and have always gotten my email to that. After days of speaking with Palm reps, I am being told that NO Verizon Pre is able to connect to a corp exchange server at this time. I am quite upset by this, since after listening to a Palm Reps advice, I had an IT person make sure our server was up to date, we had the correct certificates, etc. This of course took hours to complete, and the IT person's time is not cheap. So afte spending all that time and money dealing with this, I was told today by a supervisor at Palm that NOBODY on Verizons network is able to connect to their corp email server, and that it was an issue that is being looked into.
I searched the forums, and found lots of issues of this with Sprint service, but didn't find any with Verizon. Anybody else out there on Verizon and unable to connect? Or maybe the better question is, Does anybody out there have a Pre Plus with Verizon and IS able to connect to their Exchange (EAS) server?

Correction to my last message. After doing a reset on my phone, and updating our server, I was able to connect to my email. Thank you for your comments to update to SP2. Overall, I am still very upset about the over the phone support Palm provided. Like I mentioned before, I brought up the SP1 vs SP2 option multiple times over the phone, and I was told each time that was not the issue. Even my IT guy fought me, a little, on doing that update since he had heard the same information as I did from the Palm reps on the phone. After creating an account on here, and PDAguy pointing me to the long thread about people with a similar problem, I showed this to our IT guy and he happily updated our server to SP2.
I am happy to get this issue resolved, but still feel Palm mislead me along the way, probably costing me over $400 in IT support,  my wasted time, and traveling to a Verizon store to exchange a perfectly good phone and having me trying different options that did not need to be done. I made 3 different calls to Palm (along with my IT guy who was paid by the hour) and each call lasted about 1 to 1-1/2 hrs. Most of the time being on hold while the rep "research" my question.  Even had a rep over the phone lie to me, and tell me he was able to connect to our server (using my info) with a Pre that he had with him. He then told me I had a faulty phone, and I was directed to go back to Verizon to switch the phone out. After I had switched the phone out, and it of course still did not work, I was then told by another Palm rep, and his supervisor that this was a know issue and that NOBODY with Verizon was able to connect to an Exchange server (with a Pre) due to a software issue on the phone. I had a rebate from Verizon to get this phone for $149, but with all my wasted time, the cost of my IT guy, and the lack of knowledge by the Palm reps, I think I probably own the most expensive Palm Pre Plus out there.

  • WRT 160 Laptop Connection Issues

I travel frequently with my older Compaq laptop that runs Window XP Professional.  I connect to several different wireless networks while I travel.  Occassionally when I return home from a trip I get a message that says verifying identity and the laptop will not connect to the wireless network.  I have had this issue in the past and I believe one of the solution was to remove the network from the connect automatically setting and do it manually.  I tried that to no avail this past time.  The laptop appears to have finally connected (after over a week of attempts) and the internet is functional, however I still have the validating identity icon on the taskbar.  Any ideas?

Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections- Here right click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon and select Properties- Click on the 'Authentication' tab- Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1x" and click on Ok.

  • Bluetooth to laptop connection issues

I have been trying to no avail to pair my Q10 with my laptop. Everything goes well until I want to pair the two. The computer sends a number to the phone and I accept because they match and then all the drivers are installed after this I try and connect to the computer through my Q10 and receive a message stating,"Con't Connect. In device setting on your BlackBerry device, turn on Internet Tethering using Bluetooth." I am not trying to set up this bluetooth connection for internet tethering and cannot turn that option on because I do not have a tethering plan. Any possible reasons and help would be appreciated, thank you. Photo at the bottom is what I receive when I try to connect. I'm running OS 10.2.1.2141 and it was also the same issue on OS 10.2.1.1925

You do not need tethering data to turn on Internet tethering you only need internet and when you do turn it in make sure you can see the CONNECT to BLUE TOOTH option and make sure that that option is on.
It would also help if you had BlackBerry Link

  • Ipod/laptop connection issue.

Basically my computer wont detect my ipod at all.
The Ipod isnt new i got it last christmas, its an ipod touch 16gb. It worked up until i rebooted my computer and reinstalled itunes. My ipod still has everything on it but it wont detect with my computer or itunes, i have also logged into my account on itunes successfully.
    Ive tried:
1.Turning computer off and then on.
    2.Reinstalling itunes.
3.Turning ipod off and then back on.
4.Re-booting ipod by holding the lock and menu buttons together.
5.Tried more than 1 USB port.
6.unistalling + reinstalling USB controllers and USB drivers
I may have missed something ive tried, but if someone mentions it, ill say.
The cable included with my ipod could be broken due to a split in it but it still works when it is plugged into the mains using a mains adapter it still works, also my brothers cable works on my ipod too to charge it but not to connect it.
Thx in advance, this has been a problem for a while now and im tired of it after trying almost everything =/

I have already tried this, as it continued from the AMDS guide. No luck
EDIT: just plugged in again when the ipod was unlocked and it worked this time but now i have the problem that the computer gives me the option to install it as a camera/scanner or to install it with photoshop =/ how can i get it to install with itunes because my computer thinks its a camera O_o?
EDIT 2: I changed the scanner and camera options so that it wouldn't be detected as a camera and now its not detected at all again =/

  • New iPad won't connect to Mobile Hotspot using WPA or WPA2

I have a new iPad running iOS 6.01.  It connects to wifi networks perfectly.  I also own a Blackberry 9790 that is capable of running a wifi hotspot.  When I try to connect my iPad to the mobile hotspot when WPA or WPA2 Encryption is used the iPad cannot connect.  If I change the Encrypstion to WEP I am able to connect the iPad and wifi works on it.
Is there a reason the new iPad won't connect to a mobile hotspot that's using WPA/WPA2?  Is there a way to resolve this issue?
I am able to connect my MacBook Pro to the mobile hotspot using WPA/WPA2 so I know that it's not my phone or the hotspot not working properly.
    Thanks

It appears as though I fixed my own problem...I hadn't yet tried restarting my blackberry or my iPad since I had been trying to setup the mobile hotspot and connect the iPad.  Anyways, I restarted both devices and then tried connecting using WPA/WPA2 and it worked.
iPad is now connecting to my mobile hotspot using WPA/WPA2 with no problems.
Maybe try doing the same if you haven't.

  • Windows Mobile PDA WiFi and Palm Pre Plus Hotspot

I can't get my PDA, which is running Windows Mobile 5, to connect securly with my Palm Pre Plus.  I can make the WiFi connection if the hotspot is set to open, but if the hotspot is set to wpa/wpa2 personal the connection doesn't happen.  Does anyone know what settings are required in the network setup area on the PDA to make the secure connection work?

Try doing a system update.  The steps are below.
From the Home screen, touch the launcher icon.
    Touch Updates.
If necessary, swipe horizontally or vertically to locate the application.
    Touch Download now.
    Touch Install now.
    Touch Done.
    Hope this helps!

  • Using Pre Plus as a modem with laptop

Can I use the Palm Pre Plus as a modem tethered to my laptop with VZ Access Manager software from Verizon.  I used this method before with my Blackberry Pearl ($15/mo).  I don't want to pay $40/mo to Verizon to use WiFi (Mobile hotspot) feature on Palm Pre Plus.
    Thanks

    Hi
Can someone help me understand this product please? I've been a BB user till now but want to switch over to the PPP:
    1. Can it be tethered to the laptop as a modem AND work as a phone at the SAME time?
    2. What are the high speed connectivity - do they compare with a broadband at home or the 3G USB modems/sticks one uses on the laptop? If so, are there any limits to the data usage?
    3. I am paying 60 dollars a month for the USB modem AND 70 dollars a month for the unlimited WW data capability on my BB. It appears with the PPP I can get both the things done in the 29 dollar plan for US? Or maybe the 70 dollar plan for unlimited WW usage that can be used on my laptop too with high speeds? AM I correct or reading too much into it here? I am with Verizon currently. Does anyone else offer anything better that takes care of both the things - high speed internet access on my laptop AND a US/Canadian voice plan (I have it currently for USD 99.95/Mo - 1350 minutes)
    4. Is the PPP constantly connected to the internet like the BB is for instantaneous emails? And are there any limits to the enterprise activation as they are on the BB of one only?
    5. Any better alternatives here from Palm?
    Many thanks folks!

  • "No Internet Access" on connected device with mobile hotspot

I've been on Verizon for 2 weeks.  Note II on a Family Share Plan with lots of data.  Using the built-in Verizon Mobile Hotspot application.  Connecting from my work laptop, which is Windows 7.
Set it up and everything worked fine for a week and a half.  I had no problems connecting or accessing the internet from my laptop.  It worked fine Monday morning.  Monday afternoon my laptop started giving me the warning message "No Internet Access" when connecting to the phone's hotspot.  I'm in a 4g area where the hotspot has worked previously.  I've tried several times in several different 4g locations as time allowed over the last 2 days, and I have not been able to get to the internet on my connected laptop again.
While connected to the mobile hotspot I ran Windows troubleshooter and it tells me that there is no DHCP server available, and that the default gateway for this network is unreachable.  My laptop has no problems reaching the internet via the wireless network at work or at home.  The laptop connects to both of those wireless networks every day (both before and since this problem appeared.)
I have rebooted both the phone and the laptop, with no change in the problem results.  I renamed the hotspot, and connected to the "new" hotspot from my laptop, with no change in the problem results.  I have tried running "ipconfig /renew" from my laptop while connected, and that is when it tells me that it cannot find a DHCP server for this network.
What broke?  How can I fix it?
I'm still in the 100% refund return period on my contract and phones (for another day or so.)  This is an absolute deal-killer.  Hotspot on my phone is the single reason why I switched networks.
    * Revised 2/28:
This morning I turned on the mobile hotspot feature on my wife's Galaxy S3 (on the same Verizon Family Share Plan.)  Then I connected to it from my laptop.  When it connected it said "limited internet access" for about 30 seconds, and then that warning went away and I had full access.  I surfed for a moment to confirm, and all was working.  I turned off the GS3 hotspot and turned on the hotspot on my Note II.  When I connected to the Note II's hotspot from my laptop I still had no internet access.  I left it for 3-4 minutes, and it never switched on.  I tried surfing and got only error messages in my browser.
All of this was while sitting at my desk.  So I believe I have ruled out the laptop as a cause for this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Randy

After I posted the above in February I talked to Verizon support.  They could not resolve the problem.  They replaced the phone, and the new phone has worked for months.  My work schedule changed a bit, and so I started using the hotspot less often.
Last week I noticed that after I connected my laptop I had a longer delay before it would change from "No Internet Access" to giving me access.  Yesterday morning it was so slow that I got the command prompt up on my laptop and determined that from the laptop's perspective the problem was that there was no DHCP server available through the hotspot network.  That morning it did eventually find the DHCP server and issue my laptop an IP address, and let me connect.
Yesterday afternoon the DHCP server never appeared, and I was not able to connect to the internet.  Same thing this morning.  I rebooted both the phone and the laptop.  No change.  The laptop connects to other wireless networks just fine, still.  This worked for months.  Why did it slow down connecting and then stop?  I'm guessing there must be some sort of buffer that has filled up.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mobile HotSpot connection

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect a laptop through the Mobile Hotspot application using the USB cable instead of WiFi - I have a very old laptop that I would like to occassionally use but it does not have WiFi capabilities.

The mobile hotspot app is a WiFi-only connection. It sets your Pre up as a WiFi access point. Try purchasing a USB WiFi adapter for your laptop, which would give it the WiFi capabilities it currently lacks.

  • VERY slow mobile Hotspot connection?

I recently purchased the 4510L LTE mobile hotspot as it was that or dial up. I have been getting download speeds that generally cap out at about 100 KBps. That seems very slow for this area, with 3G coverage. I am always at 3 or 4 bars of service and am unsure if this is standard for that or if I am for some reason getting incredibly slow internet.

Yes, I have tried to move it around the house and that helped in a very very small way. I just don't think my area is really cut out for this type of service, I recently discovered that there is one company that offers DSL and hopefully I can get that. I luckily still have time on my 14 days and hope that I don't have any trouble returning and canceling my service.
Thanks to the community member for your input.
    Hi MyUnluckyDay,
Have you kept trying to use your mobile hotspot to see if the speeds improved? Are you using a laptop with the connection that has an Anti Virus program running at the time slow speed occurs? If so, please try clearing the cache on your web browser and disable your Anti Virus program and retry using the hotspot to see if this improves the speed of your connection. Speeds can vary depending on what your doing on the connection such as downloading a large application or streaming videos, etc.  Also, there was a software update released on September 1st that can help with the connection issues. Here is a direct link to our website that will provide steps on how to obtain the software update. I hope these suggestions can help with your concerns.

  • Windows 7 unable to connect to mobile hotspot after last patch

    Hi,
I recently re-installed the Windows 7 on my laptop. I applied a lot of patches.
I have two phones: one blackberry curve and an android Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Since yesterday I was able to start the tethering on the smartphone and activate the mobile hotspot. Windows 7 was able to connect to the mobile hotspot without any problem.
Yesterday evening I applied the last patches and this morning I restarted the PC to applied them.
Now Windows is not more able to connect to any mobile hotspot. However, is still able to connect to a standard Cisco WiFi network.
Does anybody have any idea why?
    Thanks

Since issue only occurred after you installed the last patches, in addition to the wifi driver, I also suggest you uninstall the latest patches for a test, seems something conflits with them, what is the result?

  • Samsung LTE Mobile Hotspot PRO USB cable connection to Mac

I am trying to connect a Samsung LTE Mobile Hotspot PRO via USB cable to my Macbook and iMac.  I can see it in the System Information, but it does not show up in the Devices in Finder.  Is there a driver that I need?  Does it exist (yet)?

So I was able to get USB tethering to work, but I still can't connect to the hotspot as a media device (and view what is on my microSD card and/or the device).
Here's how I got USB tethering to work: I plugged into my laptop running Linux, where both USB tethering and mounting as a media device work fine, found the Mac OS driver on the device, copied it over to my Macbook, installed, rebooted, wirelessly connected to the hotspot, configured for USB tethering, went to Open Network Preferences..., connected to "SAMSUNG Mobile Device".   I did all this after talking to Samsung on the phone, where they told me the driver does not exist yet....
