Pre-tagging text files for FrameMaker 11

In older versions of FrameMaker I used to be able to pre-tag a text/data file using @tag name=[paratext] at the beginning of a paragraph so that when the file was imported to a FrameMaker template, the specified tag would be applied automatically and I didn't have to apply the tags manually. This doesn't seem to work any more, but I can't believe this feature is no longer available. How do I do the same thing for FrameMaker 11 please?

The include statement at the top of an MML file is optional, but handy if you do a lot of MML work and always use the same styles. For occasional work or document with a "novelty" style-set, it's enough to put a <!DefineTag> slug at the top of the MML source for each style. Just remember to start the file with <MML> – the FM import scrutinises the file rather than relying on the extension – and to save it as ANSII. Oh, and I've noticed/learnt that if you don't leave a blank line between each tagged paragraph in the input, FM adds a space at the end of the paragraph. (showing my age – I've been sternly warned against increasing file-size with this sort of thing)
I use MML a lot, for cleaning up – erm – enthusiastically formatted or completely unformatted .doc files, and apart from missing support for tables I find it a valuable blade on my FM Swiss Army knife <g> Minimal work with a text editor can convert an MML file into tagged text suitable for InDesign. Haven't had the occasion to experiment with IDD to MML, but who knows … that might work too.
Just for completeness, a small example:
<MML>
<!DefineTag :h2>
<!DefineTag :p>
<!DefineTag :ul>
<!DefineTag :ul_2>
<:h2>System requirements – disk space
<:p>A minimum of 1Gb free disk space is recommended.
<:ul>around 250 MB for Java
<:ul>around 12 MB for a fresh Tomcat Server installation
<:ul>around 23 MB for KEY LOADING SERVER files
<:ul>additional space for
<:ul_2>Tomcat Server working files
<:ul_2>KEY LOADING reports
<:ul_2>log files (space depends on the trace level and clean up policies adopted)

  • How do I import an InDesign tagged text file into multiple pages and export as .ps or .pdf using Jav

I have an InDesign tagged text file I've translated from .xml. I need to automate the following steps:
1 - access specific InDesign template (eg. ABC_template.ind)
2 - import tagged text file into InDesign
3 - autoflow text to END of document (normally around 3-5 pages)
4 - save document as either .ps or .pdf file
5 - where the input file stub name matches the output stub name (eg., OrigName.txt outputs as OrigName.pdf).
I would like to completely automate this whole process using JavaScript (because I don't know anyone that knows AppleScript). I've automated the first part using a perl script. I've been trying to find sample snipits of JavaScript that would do one or more of the items listed above, but am having a hard time finding what I need.
Please, I'm desperate!! Can any of you InDesign scripting guru's out there help me??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Linked Adobe Tagged Text files importing without styles

I have several data-heavy weekly publications where suddenly, the link to all Adobe Tagged Text format files have the proper paragraph styles and character styles stripped on being placed.  I'm aware of the default settings issue, where you deselect all and make sure the character styles is none, and that does not seem to be the issue. Specifics are
Working in CS 5 (Version 7.0.4)
The Adobe Tagged Text format files are exported from Excel spreadsheets
The InDesign documents have links to the Adobe Tagged Text format files, and Update Link is used inside InDesign to update the text when the file is exported from the spreadsheet.
When the publications are opened on my workstation, ALL files linked to Adobe Tagged Text files are not imported correctly, they revert to the Basic Paragraph style.
These are not new documents I'm designing or new Adobe Tagged Text files, this is part of a production process that has worked without issue for years.
When the same documents are opened on another workstation, and Update Links used, they come in perfectly, so it doesn't seem to be a document or file corruption problem, but a problem with my environment or ID settings.
It's not one specific document or file, it is every single document that has a link to an Adobe Tagged Text file (and we have lots, I tried several!)
I've opened the text files in the text editor to check them, but as I mentioned: same document, same files, I'm the only one who can't update without stripping out the styles.
    Thanks! Nancy

Hi, Peter! Thanks for the response. Yes, it's really Tagged Text. See below. After exporting from the spreadsheet and database, opening the document in InDesign, and selecting update link, we do no editing in InDesign after the fact because everything is already setup exactly as we want it with the Tagged Text format.
I have literally hundreds of these among several different documents, updated weekly, mainly dealing with prices and numbers. Every one of the links to Tagged Text format files in every publication now strips out the Tagged Text paragraph style and character style formatting on Update Link on my workstation only. On my other two workstations, the links update without issue, and everything is correct in the final document.
So I'm beginning to think I need to look at rebuilding something, maybe as Joel said, replacing preferences. I keep looking for a workstation or ID option that might effect this.

  • Import ID tagged text file results in paragraph style overrides

I have been working on a project that requires the import of a large amount of information from a database. I have defined all the paragraph styles in InDesign and have a program to apply the paragraph style to the database information creating the InDesign Tagged Text file. When I place it into my document the paragraph styles are recognized but there is an override. If I clear the override, the text looks fine. I have an example document that I have exported and imported some text to rule out the program, but even in this case, an override occurs. Text is there, the paragraph format is there, but font size (for example) is wrong. Where should I be looking to correct this issue?
    Harold

I don't recognize any of those being wrong, per se. I have the file on another computer, so I mocked up yet another one. Sorry
Again in this one I did ASCII export, no fancy characters. And this one demonstrates the problem, too. I have two kinds of paragraphs. A big one and a small one. I create those paragraph styles. I select the only two lines in the file. Export and then bring them in underneath themselves to compare.
The paragraph styles for the newly Placed paragraphs are gone. The font color is the same. But the font size and font have not changed.
I manually edited the IDTT and removed the <Japanese feature> tag. Placed it again. Font color is the same, but the size and font are wrong.
In other words, my problem is that ID does not seem to apply the paragraph style to the text when it is imported. Aren't the font size and font defined in the Paragraph Style?
My end goal is to define some paragraph styles and create the IDTT automatically from a database. My hope was that the paragraphs would be formated properly based on the predefined styles when the IDTT comes in. I cannot get it to do this even for a pared down example. Aren't other users doing this?
Here is the IDTT on pastebin (with the <Japanese...> tag removed)
    http://pastebin.com/Vdc6NVDV
And what it looks like after the intial Place with <Japanese...> tag in, edited line from Small to "Deleted Japanese feature...", removed tag from IDTT and then did another Place.

  • Soft return in tagged text file

Hi, anyone has example of using a End of line (soft return)  in tagged text file?
i tried using <0x000A> but it does not work. Advice needed.
    Tkz

So it does. It also drops it if you export in GB 18030. I would file a bug report:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Only workaround I can think of would be to enter some other unique character (maybe |?) and find/replace it in ID after bringing in the tagged text.
    Ken
Hold on, I tried exporting tagged text and then bringing it back in. It's not dropping the forced line break. It's exporting it as a single Line Feed (hex 0a). And it interprets that as a forced line break when importing back in. My text editor ignores Line Feeds. I had to look at it in a hex editor to see the 0a.
I don't know if that helps any. However you're producing the tagged text, you would need to be able to make it enter a line feed without the carriage return.

  • SoD Risk Summary and Rule Text Files for CC 5.1

    Hi,
Could anyone share with me where could I find the SoD Risk Summary and Rule Text Files for CC 5.1? I have looked into SAP Marketplace but I was not able to find such information. In the installation files we downloaded, these files are not included either
    Thanks in advance. Regards,
        Imanol

    Hi,
These rules were available on the market place for CC 40: they were included in the support package 1 or 2.
For CC 51, we had the same issue as you: we did not find the rules on the market place. Apparently, they are not.
My customer had to send a OSS message to SAP in order to receive the rules (.txt files).

    Hi,
You can use something like this:
    switch(cell.getCellType()) {
      case Cell.CELL_TYPE_STRING:
        System.out.println(cell.getRichStringCellValue().getString());
        break;
      case Cell.CELL_TYPE_NUMERIC:
        if(DateUtil.isCellDateFormatted(cell)) {

  • Error while uploading standard text files for the Global rule set

    Hi all,
As part of Post Installation Activities we have uploaded standard text files for business process, functions, risks and rule set obtained with the installable Software.
While uploading the text files we have uploaded the Basis Functions Authorizations first and then R/3 text files.
When we checked no actions are appearing in the rule architect under respective functions except for the BASIS Module.
Is this because we have uploaded the Basis functions before the R/3 text files? If yes, how to replace the Basis with the R/3 ones.
We tried to replace the Basis function authorizations by re-uploading the R/3 text files again but we got the below error message u201CORA-00001:unique constraint (SAPSR3DB.SYS_C004479) violatedu201D
Can somebody please help in this regard how to get the standard rule set in our system?
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Srihari.K

    Hi Sri,
you should upload first the static text files and the authorization objects first and then the GRC standard rule set files following the instructions of the SAP Configuration Guide available in Service Market Place under http://service.sap.com/instguides .
The GRC standard rule set contains files named Basis_functions_action.txt and R3_function_action.txt. The first one contains ONLY function definitions in terms of transcation codes for basis only, whereas the second one contains functions definition for basis AND ERP modules. The same holds for the *_function_permission.txt files. There are also function definition files for other SAP solutions such as APO, CRM, HR  etc.
You can open a customer message and request a deletion script for the rule sets files you have uploaded already. After their application of this script all rule set data will be deleted from your database. If you have uploaded static text and authorization files correctly, you can then upload the GRC standard rule set files as needed again.
    best regards,
    Frank

  • Embedding tags in files for viewing and searching in other software

    Hi,
I'm a bit confused about how tags are associated with files.  I recently transferred all my photos to a new computer and lost some, but not all, the tags I had added to my photos within Elements Organiser.  I am in the process of archiving all my old family photos by scanning slides, negatives and prints. I'm working on a Windows computer.  Most are being saved as TIFFs but I also have JPEGs and RAW files.  I want future generations of my family to be able to search these photos by using first name tags for example.  They may not have Photoshop.  My daughter uses a Mac and different software.
I see that under the File menu there is an option 'write keyword tags and property info to photo'.  Will this save this info so that it can be found and searched in other types of software?  If so, does this apply to all types of photo files?
And another quick similar question - when I change the date of the photo under the thumbnail in Organiser is this saved to the file?
Thnaks for any help you can give me.
    Stuart Logan

I think you are confusing the value and purpose of JPGs vs TIFFs vs RAWs.
You always (that's always) save your originals. These are either the photos straight out of the camera, or straight out of the scanner. You may choose to make other versions of these photos for other purposes.
So ... keep your originals. Keep your edited versions. When you need to send photos to somewhere else, you can make JPGs of them, and send them (after which time you could delete the JPGs if you want). If space is a problem, the generally accepted wisdom is that hard disk space is cheap, that 1 terabyte hard drive are well under 100 dollars US; so the optimal strategy is to get extra hard disk space rather than delete the originals.
Regarding the codecs that enable you to see the RAW photo thumbnails in Windows: these will NOT allow you to see the edits you make in ACR/PSE. Nor does it help to allow you to search for keywords in DNG files. You have hit upon a disadvantage to using DNG versus RAW; if you use RAW, the tags get written to a sidecar (text) file, and these are searchable using Windows. If you use DNG, the tags are embedded into the DNG file, and are not searchable using Windows (although somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought I had heard that you can configure Windows to search for tags in DNG files, but the details, if this is true, escape me).

  • QT movie will not pre-load text track for chapters when streaming

We have been trying to stream quicktime files with chapters for some time and have followed every tutorial, message board advice and trick to get this to work but with no luck. I am unable to get the chapters to show up in QTplayer when the video is streaming. I am trying to accomplish exactly what you see on this web page http://media.law.unimelb.edu.au/kalt/
Basically, we have successfully created our movie file (with fast start enabled), successfully created our text track, copied it onto our movie file, and set it to preload, as in the instructions at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/chaptertracks.html (I had to roll-back QT Pro as the Preload checkbox has disappeared from 7.4.5!!).
Then we have saved it as a self-contained movie, and it works perfectly, with drop-down chapters in the right places, etc.
As soon as we put the file on our quicktime streaming server however, the file streams great but there are no chapters. If I look at the movie properties of our streaming file, there is no text track listed. The properties of the streaming file on the above web page DOES show the text track listed, so I am guessing that mine is simply not pre-loading the text file, even though I have checked the box to do just that and the chapters work great if I simply open the file locally, just not when it is streaming. I have tried this with many test files, large and small.
Could anyone let me know how I can get that text track to pre-load in the stream and therefore have the chapters appear in the drop-down list in quicktime player when streaming? I would be eternally grateful!

First, you don't have to roll-back QT Pro, as what you want to do can be accomplished with the latest QuickTime.
Second, skip down to the bottom of that page you linked to. You'll find a Step 1 and Step 2 that applies to Streaming QuickTime movies with chapters. This was sort of confusing when I first tried it, but the way you accomplish Step 1 is to start the stream using a computer that has QuickTime Pro, then save the stream as "Self-Contained" (NOT the original movie that resides on your Streaming Server). As when you save any QuickTime stream as Self-Contained, you'll end up with a really tiny movie that simply points to the streaming server.
Once you have that movie, you add the chapters to it (again, not to the movie that resides on your QTSS), then when someone clicks that link (or even if they download that tiny movie to their desktop), the chapter loads immediately (because it's right there) and choosing chapters in it commands the QTSS to begin playing from that point. I've got an example I posted here.

Checkout on both the page title bar Options menu and the context menu of the Detailed Navigation iView display an Add to Portal Favorites item, allowing users to store links to favorites (thats where I believe your missing permission).
The Portal Favorites iView is part of the Knowledge Management installation and is integrated into the portal. Thus if the above steps are done and the settings activated, then your standard user should not see error in the Portal Favourites with the role that you have already assigned to the user.
Also look into Standard User (eu_role), which basic functionality (portal personalization iViews) for the core portal platform and default content for the Knowledge Management and Collaboration capabilities of SAP NetWeaver. By default, the Everyone group in the portal is assigned to this role.

  • Multiple Hyperlinks in Tagged Text file

    Hi,
I'm currently exporting a contact directory database from sql into tagged text so I can import it into InDesign and format it up automatically and unltimately export as pdf.
So far I have got all the formatting working exactly as I want it to by reverse enginerring an exported file, but now I want to make all the e-mail addresses into hyperlinks.
I;ve included below an example of what i'm now importing into InDesign, all works and is formatting ok but the hyperlinks aren't being transferred properly.
Please could somebody advise me on the correct syntax on how to do the above, as I've read the tagged text user guide which gave me the headings to use but now an example of how to make a hyperlink.
One thing worth mentioning is that I am creating the number in the "HyperlinkDestKey" sequentially when outputting the text, not sure if this might have some bearing on the problem. Also open to any suggestions on trimming unncessary tags from the hyperlink too.

  • SAP GRC 5.3 - Standard Text files for RAR - Are they complete

    Dear All,
Whether the standard text file SoD rule set provided by SAP covers all the standard SAP transaction codes which are available in ECC6.0 and other systems as well.
Because we found that there are some t-codes which are not form part of Standard SoD Rule set say eg., MIGO_TR - Transfer posting, ME11, ME58 - Create PO, CKME - Release planned prices etc.,. like this there are some standard t-codes which are not part of the functions in standard rule set
We have a challenge from the client that Standard rule set provided by SAP might have covered all the standard t-codes for SoD rule set and it has to be only customized to the extent of Custom t-codes (Y & Z T-codes).
Is this correct? How frequently the text files are updated. I remember the last release of text files is along with 5.3 version and there is no change from then onwards i.e. increasing t-codes in functions or increase in risks.
    Please advise.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Best Regards,
    Srihari.K

    Sri,
From SAP: u201CThe SAP ruleset will never be 100% complete as the definition of "complete" is unique for each company.  SAP goal is to ensure that the rules we provide are accurate and address the major segregation of duties concerns.u201D
A clear point that reflects that, it is that you will have to do the exercise to identify, analyze and include every Z (custom) transactions used by your customer within the standard SoD Matrix that SAP provides.
SAP provides updates for the Rule Set every Quarter.

  • Extracting number from text files for variable

    Hello again,
I have several different types of text files all with the line
    # NPTS=32768  DT=0.005
somewhere in the file.  The numerical values are different for each file and I need to pull them out to assign as a variable for a program I am running.
How can I search a file and pull out each of these two numbers?
    Thank you

Procyon's sed script assumes that the NPTS number and the DT number will both always have a period in them. In the original, the NPTS number doesn't have a period, and I don't know whether the DT number may lack a period.
You could try this instead (replacing the 's~....~p' part of Procyon's script):
    's~# NPTS=\([0-9.]*\) *DT=\([0-9.]*\)~\1,\2~p'
That may let in stuff you want to exclude, for instance, it would let in:
    NPTS=0.0.0.0.0 DT=1.1.1.1.1
    and:
    NPTS=....... DT=
and so on. But it's a tradeoff: if you know your data doesn't include anything like that, you can go with a simpler sed script. If you need to be fussier about what you're matching, then your sed script will need to be more complex.
EDIT: What I said in first paragraph is wrong. I overlooked the '*' after the '\.' in Procyon's script. What he's got will permit but not require a period. My final point still applies, though, to both of our suggestions. His script and my script would both match the second of my bad cases.
