PRE won't start / incompatible display driver - AMD HD 6750M

Yesterday I downloaded the trial version of PRE 12, installed it, but it won't run. On startup I get the error message: We have detected an incompatible display driver. To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver. So, I had a look, but both windows and AMD/Samsung say that I have got the latest driver. Re-booted - still no luck. Searched a bit more and somebody suggested to deinstall the AMD Catalyst Manager and re-install. Which I did also, but with no success. Then I deinstalled the driver and/or disabled the card (sorry, I tried so many things to get it to work...), it defaulted back to a generic windows VGA driver. Funnily enough with that one PRE started. I still got the message, but it started. But obviously everything looked ugly and huge. Therefore I reinstalled the latest driver via the Samsung website (since it is a laptop, the drivers are not provided by AMD) and... again, same message, same bad luck = PRE will not start after clicking the message o.k.
Oh, and I did click 'run as admin' and QuickTime is also up to date.
These are the system details:
Samsung Laptop NP700Z5A-S09US series
Windows 7 64bit
AMD Radeon HD6750M
8 GB RAM
Any ideas how to get it to work so I can try it? Thanks a lot!
Claudia

Claudia,
Several laptop mfgrs. use a dual GPU arrangement, with an embedded Intel chip used to save power, and then an nVidia, or AMD/ATI chip for more intensive computing. Under normal circumstances, the computer will switch between the two, but that is not always the case.
While PrE does not really tax a GPU, like some other programs, it DOES interface critically with the video driver for the GPU. The video driver can be rendered obsolete by such simple things, as an OS update. Most general programs do not need that interfacing with the video driver, and so long as there is a video signal, will function. However, programs like PrE, most extreme games, 3D applications, and CAD programs are different - they need a fully functioning video driver, just to run.
Some users have found that if they disable the Intel GPU (often via the BIOS, or perhaps a jumper/DIP switch on the MoBo), and update the nVidia, or AMD/ATI driver (removing the BadDrivers.TXT file), things work perfectly. Others, whose computers DO switch between the dual GPU's, only require the lastest video drivers for both the Intel and the nVidia, or AMD/ATI chips (with removal of the BadDrivers.TXT file).
I think that it would be better, if the computer mfgrs. had a software toggle switch, that would allow a user to simply turn OFF the power-saving aspect of the Intel chip, when using programs, such as PrE - one would still need to keep that chip's video driver updated, but it would make things easier on people, who wish to edit video, play extreme games, or do any advanced 3D work.
Glad that you found the fix, and that all is working for you.
Happy editing,
Hunt

  • Incompatible display driver message prevents start up of premiere Elements

I have downloaded and installed Premiere elements 12 on a PC running Windows 8.1 64 bit with two display drivers and 2 monitors.  When I start Premiere Elements and select the Video editor/New Project I get an error message "We have detected an incompatible display driver.  To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver".  If I click OK the error message comes up a second time and then I get the bar for about 30 seconds and then nothing happens. I am using an Intel on board display driver for my second monitor and an AMD r2 700 series card for my primary display.

Did you go through the drill
    a. video card driver version up to date according to the manufacturer of the video card
    b. if so, deletion of the BadDrivers.txt file....for Premiere Elements 12 in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, the path is:
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
and in the Premiere Elements Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file for version 12. The BadDrivers.txt file is a file in this Premiere Elements Folder which also contains folders. You do not want anything in those folders. All you want is the BadDrivers.txt file in the Premiere Elements Folder.
Make sure that you have Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so you can see that complete path.
The rationale for the being of the BadDrivers.txt file has its origins in post 10 of the following older thread
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3177024
When you get the display card error message, is it before you import media into the project? And, when you get the message, does the program allow you to continue by pressing a Continue Button or are you stopped from going further?

  • Premiere Elemente 12 - incompatible Display Driver on Win 8.1

    Hi Everybody!
I am running Windows 8.1 on an HP Ultrabook equipped with 23" external Display via USB 3.0 Port Replicator. Primary Display is off, as Notebook is closed.
I have installed PE12 before updating to W8.1.
Starting PE 12 results in an alert message: "incompatible display driver detected, please update..."
Updating Chipset Drivers resulted in "most recent driver installed".
How can I get that software running???
    Thank you in advance

Have stopped the firewall and allowed all traffic -
From what I have read, many of this type of situation has been resolved by disabling the firewall with the rationale that file like dynamiclinkmanager is being blocked from getting to important files because of firewall protection. If this turns out to be the case, then we would need to look into writing exceptions in the firewall.
Removed the newest version and installaed 7.6.6. -
Another strategy that worked for one with this type of problem was to go from the latest version of Quicktime to an earlier version. In the case that I read, the version went to was 7.6.6. Older versions of QuickTime can be found at the following link.
Download Old Versions of QuickTime for Windows - OldVersion.com

  • Premiere Elements 10 Error on load - "we have detected an incompatible display driver"

Greetings! I was happily using this software for several weeks without problems when one day for no apparent reason (no new hardware or significant software changes) I now get this error constantly when trying to run the software - "we have detected an incompatible display driver. to get better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver. display driver details : intel - intel bear lake B 1.4.0 - Build 7.15.10.5218"
I then updated the intel graphics drivers to the latest version but to no avail. I have tried four different driver versions from oldest to newest and still no success. I have un-installed the software, drivers, started from fresh with all imaginable combinations, CCleaner-ed the hard drive, virus scanned, defragmented, updated windows, etc. I am now at a loss for what to do next, beyond insisting for a refund and going to another software company for my video editing needs.
My machine is a 2Ghz Dual-Core, 4GB RAM, 80GB available HDD space, running windows XP pro SP3, updated everything drivers and OS.
I find this problem even more confusing given the fact that is was working, then decided not to work any more. Perhaps something updated in the background without my knowledge?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS - I have tried all the things on this list relating to Premiere Elements version 9, but none have helped - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/875/cpsid_87588.html

If none of the troubleshooting for the display adaptor (graphics card driver update, BadDrivres.txt etc.) do not work, we have to understand that the display could actually not be supported. By display, I mean the card-driver-driver version combination. So,
    1. It could be a bad card - None of the available drivers work for the application. Here, ditch the card and get a newer one that works.
    2. It could be a bad driver - For e.g. Only DirectX drivers work, OpenGL ones could be pathetic (Many games detect this and if this is bad, I have seen Photoshop struggle with this). Or some display configurations would be badly supported (multiple monitors, some funny resolutions, some of the ports, crossfire etc.). Older drivers/cards/some OEM drivers etc. have these issues in my experience.
    3. It could be a bad driver version - Here upgrade or a downgrade works.
Because of a Video editor, the (lack of) capabilities of the card is highlighted. Video Playback alone doesn't nearly exercise the capabilities the cards usually have to offer. Editing really does. That is why it matters if the Video Editor actually says that it supports Graphics acceleration (Or GPU acceleration) for any of the workflows.
What I am saying here is that when we blame the application for any of the issues, we have to be certain that the issues are NOT due to one of the mentioned three causes. I have seen this all too often in the gaming forums, Nero forums (some years back), in PPro forum, and here. If the application menufacturer is really to blame, the mistake would be all too obvious and too many of us would have complained about it. I do not think this is the case with Premiere Elements 10.
    Introspection works.

  • Incompatible display driver. Premiere Elements 11

Today when trying to open a project a message came up saying that an incompatible display driver had been detected: Intel(R) HD Graphic Family 3.0.0 Build 8.15.10.2559. I've checked and the driver is up to date however the project will not now open. My computer is an Asus lap top running Windows 7 64 bit, Intel core i7 with 6GB RAM. Graphics GEFORCE GT 635M 2GB
The programme was working fine yesterday although it was taking almost an hour for the project to open up. It is a big project with nearly 800 HD clips but had been opening up reasonably quickly until a few days ago. Any help would be much appreciated. I had this problem once before about three years ago with Elements 9 on my PC and had to uninstall a bad driver file but can't remember how I did that.
    Thanks

    BriRonS
Let us target the BadDrivers.txt file deletion first. There is probably more to this than that, but this needs to be ruled in or out.
You should be seeing the following if your Premiere Elements 11 is running on Windows 64 bit
If you are not, your computer is probably set with Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives disabled in Folder Options.
Click on the Start button. In the Search field above the Start button, type in Folders Options. You should then see the text
for Folder Options at the top of the left column of the page. Click on Folder Options text to open to the Folder Option dialog.
In the Folder Options dialog, click on the View Tab, and scroll down the list under View Tab until you reach the Show Hidden
Files, Folders, and Drives option which you enable.
What are the pixel dimensions of the jpgs in your project?
Any chances for any Windows Updates that could have modified your video cards/graphics cards?
    More later.
    Thanks for the follow up.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Trial Ver, We have detected an incompatible display driver. Help

When I downloaded the Premiere Elements 9 30 Day Trial Version and installed it. Started the program, proceeded to load, then a message pops up saying:
We have detected an incompatible display driver. To get a better and
faster playback performance, please update your display driver.
Display driver details: Microsoft Corporation - GDI Generic 1.1.0

It's an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650, clicked update driver and says its already has the latest drivers. I have never of heard of a display driver from Microsoft, I know it means graphics device interface. How would update this?

The following is an excerpt of the details that I wrote in another thread regarding the path to the BadDrivers.txt path in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
For Premiere Elements 12 on those new computer operating systems the route to the BadDrivers.txt file is as follows
    Local Disc C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
and then in the Premiere Elements Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete. You should find it there as a file. NOT in a folder named 12.0 inside the Premiere Elements Folder.
Be sure to be working with Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.

Again, do not forget to set Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives to be active so that you can see the complete path.

This is a directory issue that Disk Utility cannot fix. Although it manifests itself as a software issue sometimes it may be hardware based. See DiskUtility reports "Underlying task reported failure" when repairing avolume http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1901?viewlocale=en_US". You can try using a utility like TechTool Pro, Drive Genius or Disk Warrior to repair and replace the directory. Another option would be to use the Archive and Install feature to reinstall. If the problem returns after correction you may have a failing or failed HDD.

  • Incompatible display driver - premiere elements 12 & 13

I've been trying to get adobe premiere elements working on some Lenovo T520 laptops. These are an advanced model laptop so shouldn't have issues with display drivers. When  attempting to run Adobe premier elements 12 or 13 I get the error message 'we have detected an incompatible display driver. To get a better and faster performance, please update your display driver'
    I have read through every available forum and website to fix this and have done the following to no avail;
Upgraded Intel HD Grapics 3000 driver to latest version
Disabled second graphics card (NVIDIA NVS 4200M) in device manager
Changed BIOS settings to run graphics from onboard Intel HD graphics (this removed the NVIDIA graphics card from device manager
    Installed latest version of Quicktime
Searched for badddrivers.txt file on C drive and specifically in c:\programdata\adobe\premiereelements
Removed the adobe user profile data folders
Can you advise if there is any other possible fix for this issue? I've run out of options and have spent way too much time on this.

    You wrote
Searched for badddrivers.txt file on C drive and specifically in c:\programdata\adobe\premiereelements
So what did you do after the search? Did you find the BadDrivers.txt file for Premiere Elements 12 and 13 and delete it?
If you have not already, delete the BadDrivers.txt file for version 12 and 13.
Assuming that you are using Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit....
    If just have 12 installed...
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
Depending on how many versions of Premiere Elements you have installed on that same computer, there will be folders in the Premiere Elements Folder.
You do not want anything that is in those folders in the Premiere Elements Folder. You just want to delete that lone BadDrivers.txt file which is for Premiere Elements 12 and is found outside the 12.0 Folder there.
Versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 12.0 have their BadDrivers.txt file inside their folder in the Premiere Elements Folder.
Now if you have Premiere Elements 13 installed along with 12 on the same computer, they will share this same BadDrivers.txt file. However, the baggage that 13 will bring to this area is a file named "Current Display Driver.txt". Do not bother with it.
After the BadDrivers.txt file is deleted, you close out of there, and reopen the program, the program generates a new BadDrivers.txt file but hopefully the display card error message(s) are gone. For more details, see item 0005 of my Premiere Elements 13 Daily Discoveries blog post

I recently bought Adobe Premiere Elements 12 and installed it with no problem. I tried to run it but it keeps saying that my display drivers are incompatible. My AMD Radeon 6950 has up to date drivers and I even tried deleting the BadDriver.txt, but it keeps appearing when I try to open the program. I would appreciate any help. Great job in solving your own issue.
Just a note, when you delete the BadDrivers.txt file, it is normal for the program to generate a new one when the program is opened again. And hopefully the program now works without display error messages.
That BadDrivers.txt file deletion has its origin in the days of Premiere Elements 9 and has continued to help others with later versions as well...after updating video card/graphics card driver is not the answer. The rationale behind BadDriver.txt file deletion can be found in post 10 of the following older thread

I was not experiencing this before. The only change I've made is that I connected this laptop to a new tv to output the content of my laptop into it.
But now it is not plugged anymore and all I get is this error. And, when I get to see my project in the monitor area I do not see any video. It freezes on a picture and I am not able to see the video playing.
In concrete: I am not able to edit anything because I can not see any video playing, neither in the small screen (monitor) nor when it is full screen (dark).
I am new to PE but my experience with it has been very bad. It crashes on me like crazy and now I have this problem.
    Any ideas? Suggestions?

That is the most unfortunate aspect of having the Intel graphics chip - there is almost no driver support for them. I was hoping that HP had stepped up, and issued newer ones (what was the date of the one on the HP site?). Both ATI/AMD and nVidia update about monthly, if not sooner. As they are driven by the gaming industry, they are pressed to develop better drivers, and one that work with all of the latest updates to OS's, so one sees new drivers very frequently.
The same thing can happen, even with an ATI, or nVidia chip, if the computer mfgr. writes a proprietary driver for it. I ran against that with a Toshiba laptop. It was state-of-the-art, at the time, and had an nVidia chip, but Toshiba rewrote the driver, so that ONLY a Toshiba driver would install. Toshiba never issued one driver update. I had to basically "roll my own," and use a utility that would rewrap the nVidia drivers, to fool the Toshiba into installing it. Do not know if Toshiba still does that, as I would never buy another one, just for reasons, like that, plus zero customer support.
Every time I see a user with an Intel graphics chip, I hold my breath. They are fine for general computing, but horrible, because of the lack of driver support, for image, or video editing programs. Both Photoshop and Premiere need to interface very closely with the video driver.
Good luck, and wish that I had some "fix" just hiding in my toolbox, but with a laptop, one has few choices. With a desktop, the fix is to by-pass the embedded Intel, and add a current nVidia, or ATI card w/ the latest drivers. Cannot do that on most laptops.
