PRE8 "Blue Screens" attempting to write to DVD

A freind of mine has asked that I put his "trip to China" on DVD. This consists of many AVI files, which I imported into PRE8. The total length of the video is one hour and thirty-two minutes, the biggest project I have ever worked on. Okay, so I set it up for DVD format with the start, stop, and scene markers. The Preview plays without problem. When I attempt to burn it to DVD, I immediately get the "blue screen of death." Ouch!  PRE8 won't even allow me to "burn" this project to my hard drive. My computer specs are below. Is this project just to large to be handled by PRE8? Oh, and yes, I set up System Configuration to run the utmost least in programs and TSR's after reboot. Thanks for any input!!

A Blue Screen of Death in Windows 7 is a sign of serious problems with your operating system. It's not unheard of -- but very rare. And it likely has nothing to do with Premiere Elements.
My books offer a number of solutions and optimized workflows.
First, go to the Dell web site, look up your computer model and download all of Dell's updates. Even if your computer is brand new, you'll likely find several!
Then manually go to Windows Update and download even the non-critical updates. And go to Apple.com and download the latest version of Quicktime.
You'll probably also want to go to the ATI web site and download the latest firmware for that graphics card and go to http://www.realtek.com.tw and download the latest version of those RealTek HD Audio Drivers.
There are also some tune-ups you should do, including removing .tmp files and defragmenting your hard drives -- but that's up to you.

Once you've stabilized your system, you can start working on your specific issues.
I'd start by trying to burn your DVD files to a folder on your hard drive rather directly to a disc. That can tell you if the main problem is your disc burner. (And, with a 64-bit operating system, it may be.)
If that doesn't work, you can start troubleshooting your project.

  • 10.5.6 Blue Screen of Death and no DVD to boot!

I got the blue screen and don't have my disk. My wife has a new laptop with 10.5.5 DVD but it won't let me boot from my G5 Tower. I have Disk Worrier and was able to repair permissions, repair disk, download 10.5.6 combo reinstall, single user rsvp thing, update AJA control panel, nothing seems to work. Running out of ideas, do I need to blank drive and start over. If it won't boot from laptop 10.5.5 DVD or original G5 10.4 CDs I have, will it after I blank the whole thing? Help.

Well, that's a bummer, but you are going to need to get it back. Can you somehow get it back from this "friend"? Otherwise, I'm sorry to say, you will have to buy a new Leopard install DVD.
Maybe it's not too late to ask for it for Christmas?

  • Why is Encore 6.0 giving me the "blue screen of death" when I try to create a menu?

When I purchased my student edition 6.0 (which I love by the way), Encore did not have any of the libraries loaded up on it. After reading some discussions, I downloaded the missing folders.
Now, when I try to create a menu, my computer shuts down and gives me "the blue screen of death" as they call it (a blue screen with white writting, counting up to 100%, and saying Windows is preparing to crash...or something about the hard drive crashing....I can't remember because it goes off the screen so quickly).
I've done this several times - my computer only does this when I try to create a menu in encore, and not in any other part of encore. It hasn't happened in any of the other programs either (Premiere Pro and Audition are the only other programs I have used so far), or any other times I have my laptop.
Because of this, I am not too concerned since it seems Encore is the problem. However, I do not want any other problems to escalade from this either.
Am I doing something wrong? Can someone please help me? I'm working on my Senior Thesis (a video) this year, and I really really cannot afford to have my computer crash on me.
    Please and thank you,
    Meghin

  • Tiger install attempt produces Blue Screen of death

    computer: Powerbook G4 1 ghz
    current os: 10.2.8
    512 mb RAM
Have been trying to install Tiger from DVD received from Apple. Several attempts failed with message "try install again"
On the last time, we got through 2 or 3 " running installer script" then "writing files" - on last running installer script with 44 minutes remaining, I got the blue screen of death with the mouse pointer visible.
    What do I do?
    thanks

I'm sorry, but you did not answer the initial question are you backed up?
If you aren't backed up, you should not attempt to install anything.
If you are not backed up, you should not attempt to run any utility.
Remove the disk, go into target disk mode, and see if you can see the data from another machine.
If you are backed up, please be clear that you have backed up so we can proceed with additional suggestions.
The data on your machine is too damaged at this point to install anything. What you need to do is backup what you can first, and then worry about repairing the data on the machine, and then worry about installation.
Installing over an unhealthy system is not recommended. The errors you are getting are typical of an unhealthy system from data corruption or directory issues or a damaged hard drive. Unfortunately those can't be repaired with further possibly jeapordizing what data you have on the machine, hence the reason I emphasize backup first.
If you don't have space to backup, save up money so you can backup your data. http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
has some good tips on how to do that.

  • Qosmio x775-3dv80 Blu Ray/DVD burning gets Blue Screen of Death.

    I just got a new Qosmio X775 3DV80 laptop.
Tried to burn a Blu Ray movie with DVDfab 8. The process went through all the way till the very end and then I get a blue screen of death every single time. the brief error says IRQ problem. burning DVD gets the same.
a friend as a same model laptop. tried on his with the same result.
So it's not my particular machine!
i installed a copy of Windows 7 Pro on the sencond HD. burning either DVD or Blu Ray with no problem.
it suggests there's a glitch with combo of the original Windows 7 and the Blu Ray drive.
i have not contacted Tosh yet.
    Anyone else experience the same???

Peter, thanks for your suggestions. I tried so and didn’t work either however. I compared the drivers for the blu ray disk between the preinstalled Windows 7 version and my Windows 7 Pro (works as my first post). The only difference is the former has two drivers: (1) cdrom.sys, and (2) tdcmdpst.sys. (the Windows 7 Pro has only one : cdrom.sys). It seems this model shares the a common problem, but not enough users with the app combo to stir up some waves… Additionally: Between my first post and this one, the screen acted up. It would go black and came back in 2 sec with full brightness. The current app would freeze and brightness control function stopped working. Happened in random and a few times within an hour. Got a replacement from Amazon where I bought it (same blue screen problem on this one, too). Two weeks or so later, the 3D function went out on the new one. Today, the wireless function went south… am I "lucky" or crap on Tosh’s side?

  • Blue screen when attempting to use the dedicated video card

I keep getting a blue screen when attempting to use the dedicated video card.
I managed to install the AMD driver for it but without the other components like the Catalyst Control Center as it blue screened on startup when attempting to load the Catalyst Control Center.
The OS loads fine. Any applications that don't use the dedicated video card runs fine. All other drivers install fine as well.
Applications like games and Photoshop that switch to the dedicated video card on startup automatically crashes, the OS freezes then a blue screen appears.
What could be causing the problem? This problem just recently appeared. Two weeks ago.

I tried installing the drivers for my laptop from HP's support site. Still the same result.
This problem only appeared a few weeks ago. Before that, the same drivers from the HP site installed and functioned normally.
Could this be a problem with the graphics card itself?
Note sure but if we can know the system P/N others can look to see what drivers it has for the graphics to know what is there.

  • Blue Screen when burning a DVD

When I try to burn a DVD the systems crash with a blue screen when "compiling media" is at 95%. Windows returns a post error "PX Engine has stopped working properly". I have followed all steps in both pages http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415318?tstart=30 and http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-burning.htm l. The PX Engine is installed by Premiere and I also tried to install an update of PX Engine as instructed by Microsoft Help. Any help? I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1 on Dell XPS (Intel i7, 8 GB RAM, 250+ GB free hd space).

A BSOD is a very serious matter. It is most often caused by hardware, or low-leve drivers interfacing with the OS. This ARTICLE goes into much more detail. It also provides links to tools, that might be very helpful.
    I would start looking for:
Heat (DVD burning, like Rendering and Export, is very intensive)
RAM (DVD burning might well be using RAM that sits unused by most other operations)
PSU (DVD burning requires more power, as the HDD's and multi-drive are all very active)
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Importing from DVD to iTunes 7 on Windows XP -- blue screen crash?!?

    Hi,
I'm trying to import a DVD of music I burned from my iTunes library on my iMac to a Windows XP laptop. The first disc burned just fine, but the second one crashed with a blue screen error (though it flashed by too quickly to get the particulars). After re-booting, when I open iTunes, it continues to rip the DVD just fine. Until I insert the next DVD, when the same thing happens all over again.
I have already authorized the windows machine with my iTunes password. The iMac is an intel core duo running OS 10.4 and the laptop is a T61 Thinkpad dual core processor (2.4gHz?) with Windows XP and 4 gigs of RAM.
Does anyone know what is going on or what I need to do to fix it?

  • Satellite L300D-11A - DVD-drive issue and Blue Screen

    Hi
I'm going out of my mind :o//
My Satellite L300D-11A was delivered with a Windows Vista Home Premium, but I recently made a clean installation of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.
Since then I have had problems with "Blue screen error's" comming randomly. Have purchased and installed a Registry clean up program, but that did not fix the problem. Any one else with that problem - and a possible solution.
And now for my big problem. My CD and DVD drive is driving me crazy ;o) It's a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA and from my search on the internet I have found that a lot of other Mat****a owners have had the same or similar problem(s). My drive will not regonize or play/read from CD's. DVD with movies or programs I can play. Burning CD's is not possible and burning DVD's is sometimes working, and other times not.
I have read about the different fixes that is posted - also here on the Toshiba forum - Non of the suggested solutions is working for me - any new solutions that I could try.
Seriously thinking about buying a external USB DVD drive/burner - but can someone please tell me why Toshiba does not get the fingers out off their B** and find a solution like it seams Sony has done.
Look forward to any reply ;o))
Someone once told me about this quote - "Don't wish it was easier - work on getting clever !" I need your help to get clever ;o))

    > But I do not now how/where to get the registration keys! I have tried looking for them.
Are you talking about *Upper/Lower Filters* ?
Follow these instructions for clearing the Upper/Lower Filters:
Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key
Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)
    Expand the "SYSTEM" Key
    Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key
    Expand the "Control" Key
    Expand the "Class" Key
    Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
High light this key by left clicking once on it
On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"
Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen
    Reboot your computer

  • After breifly attempting a dismantle OSX loads but all I see is blue screen

I sent away for a superdrive because I was told that they were easy to install...
Being essentially technically incompetent, after going through my 13th screw, I decided that I was in over my head. I attempted to open the computer using instructions for opening a 15" PowerBook by leveraging the keyboard... the top didn't pop off like the pretty picture that I saw of the 15"... I then changed my search terms and found a great site that revealed that I was opening the 12" all wrong...
So I put the screws back in and decided it would be best if a professional put the drive in.
At first after restarting the PowerBook all I saw was the blue screen, then I restarted a couple times and was able to log in. Now, after restarting again, all I see is the blue screen. What's odd is that OSX says that it loads, but I'm not prompted to login... just blue. The volume and dimmer function keys still work, though.
I know I'm an idiot. I need your help

Try things in Mac101 (no offense) and Apple doc.#106464 for your startup issue. 106464 has a link to blue screen help.
Also, try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption. His link will help walk you thru it.

  • Desktop Software causes blue screen of death upon sync attempt

I've had this problem off and on (mostly on) since upgrade to version 6.0 bundle 2647 of the desktop software.  The desktop software starts up normally.  Upon connecting the device (Torch 9800) one of the following occurs:
    1.  The screen on the device flashes with the connection graphic, then computer goes BSOD.
    2.  The device is recognized, asks for my password in DTS, put in password, looks as if synch process is about to start, then computer goes BSOD.
    3.  The device is recognized, password entered, sync proceeds normally.
I get the BSOD about 75% of the time, which means I'm scared to sync very often ... which is a huge problem.  When I do attempt to sync, I've learned the hard way to save all data, shut down all programs, and cross my fingers.
My computer is HP TouchSmart tx2, AMD Turion X2, running Vista - 64.  I have no problems with any other applications.
I've looked on other forums, tried checking for upgrades, patches, etc.  After being a loyal BB proponent since the early days, I'm about ready to leave the reservation.  I can't tolerate having RIM products jacking up my computer (which I use to make a living).
If anybody can help me out, point me in the right direction, I certainly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

Any option just produces the message again for approx. 3 tries then my entire system goes to Blue Screen of Death and starts dumping memory.
Just in case you're still around, bubba ...
What text and numerical codes are you getting on the blue screen? If it's mentioning a specific filename too, let us know what that is too.
    For example:
    STOP 0x00000023 (0x000f00b5, 0xfc4af978, 0xfc4af7b4, 0xfeff4a6b)
    FATFILESYSTEM

  • T61 DVD causes a blue screen crash

My T61 with a Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ-862 causes a blue screen crash when I put a blank, unformated disk in the drive.  A pre-recorded video or audio disk will play but a blank disk causes a crash.

No it really doesn't "go to sleep." It doesn't seem to me to be "the monitor," I think this is strickly happening with the computer that incidentley happens to be connected to a monitor. My simple take anyway.

can you burn using ISO recorder?
instability can come from any number of sources -- bad hardware, bad software, or hardware/software conflicts.   without knowing exactly what you have installed in your system (hardware and software), it's difficult to say what's wrong with your system.
if you haven't already, i suggest calling lenovo support and informing them of your BSOD issues.   they'd be better equipped to talk you through something like this.
