PRE9 - burn old non HD video (VHS/8mm) to blu ray to take avantage of blu ray capacity?

I've got a lot of old VHS and 8mm video I'm burning to DVDs using pre9.  I'm creating tons of DVDs in the process.  Since blu rays have much more capacity than a DVD, is it possible to use pre9 to burn the old videos to blu ray as non HD and fit many hours on each blu ray?

You  could certainly burn the VIDEO_TS folders from each DVD as a data folder. Software Players should be fine with that, but I'm not sure about hardware players. You would probably find that some BR players will allow you to select from various folders, other players won't.

  • Converting Video(VHS-8mm) to DVDs

I have a macbook pro 17". I wish to convert video (vhs/8mm/vhsc/betamax) to DVD disks. What software and hardware do I need to buy in order to do this. I really need guidance with this.
Many Thanks, Jasu Nayee ([email protected])

I use two different ways to achieve this, depending on the situation.
    1. The slow way (but you can edit your stuff, add transitions etc in iMovie or FCP):
Hook up a your source to the analog inputs of a DV camera.
Hook up the DV camera to your Mac.
    Import with IMovie or FCP.
    Export to iDVD or Compressor/DVDStudio.
    Burn DVD.
    2. The faster way (but you can only do limited edits in DVDStudio):
    Buy a stand-alone DVD recorder.
Hook up your source, record your stuff.
Extract the MPEG2 stream and Dolby Digital audio with the freeware MPEG Stremclip.
Import the streams into DVDStudio (you can then do simple cut edits).
    Multiplex and burn to DVD.

  • Trying to install Bootcamp 4 with non Apple video Card

    Hi folks
So I had to buy a new video card (ATI HD 5850 1 GB DDR5) but of course, I lost acces to the boot screen, so I'm wondering how to install Bootcamp, since I don't have acces to the boot screen. In some point of the Bootcamp installation, the Mac re-boots but it freezes or something like that, so I have to turn it off.
For the other hand, I have the original nVidia 8800 GT which came with the Mac Pro, but's fried and it only works on safe mode. So I'm wondering if it's possible to install Bootcamp by using the 8800 GT in safe mode.
After failing on the Bootcamp installation, I have seen that the OSX already created a Bootcamp partition but in FAT 32 and we know it's neede din NTFS or such. So I was wondering if there is a way to sort this out somehow.
I also have another Bootcamp with Win7 in other hard disk, but quite small, so now I have an empty disk of 300GB, I would like to put all the windows stuff there.
    So:
    1. It seems I cannot use the new video card because of the boot.
    2. It seems I cannot use the old video card because it's fried.
    3. The Bootcamp partition is already there but in FAT 32.
    Any ideas?
Meanwhile, I'm going to try some kind of "ideas".
    Thanks in advance!
    Ø3

Then I google it and I found my thread... Mmmhhh... :/ Anyway, somehow, when Mac boots in order to perform the Win7 installation, after the Apple' chime, a BIG and BLACK pixellated apple apears on a super white background. While it stays, the disk is scratching the surface, then appears an icon of a Folder with an ? on it, The again, the big apple and the scratch, then a Ø symbol ^^ and again, the  with the scratching sound and loops all the time there... I think it's because the non apple video card. But how can be possible... Installation is just, you know, a pair of graphics going there, not OpenGL stuff! xD

  • Any good alternatives to DVD burning? VCD? S-VHS?

I am totally disillusioned with the time it takes to encode and burn a DVD with my PB. AppleCare acknowledges that it takes 8x - 10x source material for successful burning & if you look on these (amazingly honest & helpful)forums you soon learn that DVD burning on any Mac can be very intimidating and problematic.
I am wondering if there is info readily available for alternatives:
    1. VCD burning. I have a ton of small clips and could trim down larger clips to burn onto cds. Are there crazy problems with this as with DVDs?
    2. This PB has an S-VHS output & I got a stereo audio cord for output. Will videos created like this be viewable? I suppose it depends on the quality of original material & how do I find this info?
My PB is loaded with every imaginable video and audio pro & standard app. including ToastTitanium7, FinalCutPro, CinemaTools, DVD-StudioPro, QuickTimePro7 etc.
I was praying that DVD burning was a lot simpler than my experiences with Windows based machines. There one needed to have a stand alone powerhouse & Re-Install Windows every couple dozen burns to get rid of all the corruption but not even doing that with a Mac seems to make the process as easy as Advertised. Live & learn.
    thanks,
    frank

I can only speak from my experience, but I've not found creating and burning DVDs to be at all intimidating and certainly not problematic. Every video DVD I've created has gone smoothly; your mileage may vary, of course. Please note that these forums are for people who are having problems; the many, many people who use their systems with no trouble at all have little incentive to post in a troubleshooting forum.
I notice that you list a number of pro apps including DVD Studio Pro; DVDSP is not intended for consumer use and has a very steep learning curve (although DVDSP 4 has a mode with a simplified interface that's easier, but it still takes some learning). If you want simple, you should be using iDVD; that's Apple's consumer application for creating video DVDs, and the latest versions of iDVD and iMovie (part of iLife '06) make it, in my experience, about as easy as it can get. You can get results with DVD Studio Pro that you cannot with iDVD, but it's going to take work, just as working with FInal Cut Pro will involve more learning time than working with iMovie.
As to creation time for the disk, that's strictly a function of how fast your system can process. Compressing to MPEG-2 (which is the format video DVDs use and which is what takes the majority of the time involved in burning the DVD) takes a lot of processor horsepower, and a single-processor PowerBook isn't going to be as fast as a dual-processor G4 and much less so than a G5. If you're encoding and burning DVDs regularly, you might want to consider moving to a system with higher processing power. To optimize compression time on your PB in the meanwhile, make sure that no other application is running when you're processing the DVD and that your system has plenty of available hard drive space (for the temporary files that will be created).
As to alternatives, that depends on your needs. If you need playback in a DVD player, then burning a DVD will be your best route. Very few players can play a VCD, and as MacNoel said, quality isn't stellar. Whether or not VHS would be an acceptable alternative only you can say.
    Regards.

  • IDVD creates a img file, how do I burn this into a video DVD?

I do not have a DVD drive on my mac, so I sent my img file to my pc, burnt it using Nero, and the result is a non-working video DVD.
    Please help!!
    Thanks!

I suspect you ended creating a DVD disc that wasn't in the proper UDF format when you burned with Nero.

  • I can make calls and send text messages on my new iPhone 5, but incoming calls and texts still go to my old (non-Apple) phone. Is this a problem with the phone set up, or is it a problem with my old carrier or my new carrier?

I can make calls and send texts on my new iPhone 5,  but all incoming calls and texts are received by my old (non-Apple) phone.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Satellite U300 connected to TV - Non supported video format

I am using Toshiba Satellite U300-15q and it has a vga output so i bought a cable and a box that transfers te analogue signal of vga to digital of hdmi so that i can connect it to my 32' TV Sony make.
But if i connect it it says on the tv in yellow letters non supported video format.
Why is that and how can i fix it ?

In the whole story problem is that you use third part hardware or software so this described issue has nothing to do with your Toshiba notebook or Toshiba in general.
On notebooks side is important that video signal is sent on proper way. What happen later and why this signal is not transformed correctly is matter of this box.
    Which box do you use?
In my opinion you should contact manufacturer of this box and their support. They should know how it works and how to fix this.
Generally speaking, Toshiba has nothing to do with this problem.

  • Connecting my t410s with an old composite/ s-video TV

    Hi,
Just bought the t410s with switchable graphics and I was wondering if it was possible to connect it to my old composite/ s-video TV (through VGA or HDMI or other option...). I already spent a considerable amount on the computer, don't really feel like spending $100+ on a converter from VGA to S-Video. Any options?
    Cheers!!!

The simple converter cable don't work.

  • I am having serious issues trying to alter my old iCloud account with an old non-functioning email to my new apple id with a new email address. The message keeps coming up on all my apple products with my old email (which is not available anymore).

I am having serious issues trying to alter my old iCloud account with an old non-functioning email to my new apple id with a new email address. The message keeps coming up on all my apple products with my old email (which is not available anymore).

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • ICloud backup has old non-email Apple ID, no longer have password

I'm unable to restore my iPhone 4/iOS 6.1.3 backup to my new iPhone 5/iOS 7.0
    Using my new iPhone 5s:
    1. In the Set up your iPhone screen, tap Restore from iCloud Backup.
    2. In in iCloud Sign In screen, I enter my email-based Apple ID and Password, then tap Return.
    3. In the Terms and Conditions screen, tap Agree. In the Terms and Conditions popup dialog, tag Agree again.
    4. In the Choose Backup screen, choose LATEST IPHONE BACKUP (Yesterday, iPhone (iPhone 4)).
The iPhone 5 now asks me for the the Apple ID password for my old, non-email Apple ID. When I enter the password for my current, email-based Apple ID, I get an alert: Could Not Sign In: Your Apple ID or password is incorrect.
I'm unable to reset my password using http://appleid.apple.com. When I use the email authentication approach, I never receive the email. When I use the Answer Security Questions approach, it prompts me for the montd, day and year of my birth. When I enter these, I get this message: The authentication information provided does not match our records. Please verify your personal information and try again.
So apparently my old iPhone 4 is backing itself up using an iCloud account that uses my current email-based Apple ID, but somehow the backups it saves use my old, non-email-based Apple ID, so I can't use them to restore to another device.
I'm not sure what I should try next. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have exactly this issue. A few years ago I changed my Apple ID. No problem then or since then. But today when I try to restore my new iphone 5S from an existing back up - a back up which I created from my iphone 4 just a minute before using the same iCloud/Apple ID - it defaults to an old Apple ID (that I can't change) so when I enter my password (which is actually the same password as for the old Apple ID) it says can't restore from back up (specifically items purchased from iTunes) because the Apple ID and/or password is incorrect. I am like 'yeah, it's incorrect because you have defaulted to the wrong Apple ID doofus'. Any ideas?

The easiest and cheapest way is to use HandBrake to convert your DVDs to H.264 that FCP X can use.
    Download Handbrake free here  http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Put your DVD in the Mac, launch HandBrake and let it rip your DVD to H.264
You can then import the files into FCP X.
Professional editors will be apoplectic about me recommending HandBrake but for what you are doing the quality will be fine.

  • Watching non HD videos purchased from iMac on Apple TV

Can I use non HD videos purchased on my iMac on my Apple TV? I have had problems viewing in the past.
HD videos take forever to download and watch on Apple TV.
I would like to purchase non HD videos on iMac in iTunes and watch on Apple TV.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There appears to be a large increase in this type of problem at this time, it seems that that there is a problem at Apple's end, but I couldn't at all be sure.
There is no issues being reported at Apple’s System Status page, but this status may yet be updated and it may be you need to try again a little later.
This isn't affecting me here in the UK, where exactly are you.
So far I have noted users in the following locations having similar problems:

facetime kept old picture no video, audio ok in wifi

    Hi,
You are using it with an AIM (valid) Screen Name or Jabber ID to another Mac user using iChat or Messages ?
The iMessages account does not Video (It invokes FaceTime)
Any Yahoo Account will not Video (It is Text only)
Bonjour will do the Video but is LAN based.
It will be AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber.
Google and Facebook Chat ID s are valid as Jabber IDs but the other end must also be using iChat or Messages (not a Web browser login)
AIM valid names include @mac.com, @me.com and @icloud.com if you are using iChat 6 that has been updated or Messages 7.x.x. or 8
If you only have the iMessages account active in Messages then the Status and Picture change items in the Messages menu don't apply (they are for the "iChat side" when you are using Buddy list).
You can get around the Picture one by Enabling the Bonjour account (you do not have to display the Buddy List)
This will then allow you to change the Pic (otherwise it will keep defaulting back to the Contact > My Card one at the end of the session).

Why can't you do this? There's plenty of third-party software that can do the job. Download a few from
MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and try them out before choosing one to purchase.
