Precaution or steps to take before booting up 4 months unused macbook air

Hello Community
My mother was ill for quite some-time, and she didn't use her MacBook Air for almost 4 months now.
Before booting it up again, and start making use, please let me know if there are some steps needs to be performed.
For example: Should I fulling charge it, and then boot-up OR should I just plug-in to charge and boot-it up
Thanks

The 'ideal' battery status is a full charge but once you get an indication that the battery has some life in it it you should be ready to go.  Obviously keep the power adapter in until at least a a full charge is achieved.
Ciao.

  • Slow boot up time on new Macbook Air

I just got the new Macbook Air a day ago and have already experienced significantly slow boot up time. It takes about 3-5 minutes to get to the log in screen. I know when it was released, it was boasted that it only took seconds to start up after being turned off. Any idea on what I could do to change this or what the issue is?
Also, I just switched from a PC so have very limited knowledge on the Macbooks.

    Try Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Problems booting from install disk with MacBook Air

(I'm posting this here b/c it's been three days since I posted this in the /MacBook Air/Networking section and no one's touched it...)
Somehow, the hard disk in my MBA has been corrupted, or something. First symptom I noticed - when booting up, I get stuck on that blank blue screen for, oh, 5 minutes or so, before flashing back to the grey Apple logo screen, then finally getting to the desktop. I tried repairing permissions via Disk Utility; it spun for 10 minutes without doing anything, so I stopped the process. The "Repair Disk" function in Disk Utility was not available for some reason, so I tried "Verify Disk." This failed. I forget the exact wording of the error message, but it said, in essence, that the disk was corrupted and I should run Disk Utility from the system install disk.
Here it gets interesting. I have an MBA SuperDrive, so I first tried booting from there. I'd forgotten about holding down "c" I just held Option, selected the disk, and tried to boot from it. I got a grey screen with the grey Apple logo and a spinning gear; then the Apple logo was replaced by a grey circle with a diagonal line through it (like, from a "no smoking" sign or something) and a spinning gear... this persisted for another 10 minutes or so without going anywhere, so I forced a shutdown.
Thinking the problem might be the SuperDrive, I tried to do the same procedure via Remote Disk (from an iBook G4 running 10.5.5). I followed the instructions, connected the MBA to my wireless network, it found the remote disk, tried to boot from it - but I got the same behavior. Grey Apple screen giving way to grey circle with a diagonal line through it, and an endlessly spinning gear underneath.
What in the world is going on here?

You seem to have a lot of problems, the last being a kernel panic. This is often attributed to a hardware failure including the possibility of defective RAM.
They are not easy to track down but here are some suggestions to assist you.

However, try once again to boot from the install DVD and perform Repair Disk, otherwise, start on the troubleshooting.

  • How long does it take to move files to a new MacBook Air?

I am using Migration Assistant to move files from my older MacBook Air with 120 gb of data on it to my new one that has a 500 gb hard drive.
The Assistant has been working for over 4 HOURS and still just says that it is "preparing" to move files.  Thus it seems that nothing has actually been transferred yet?
How long should this process take?  Is something actually happening?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Using Setup Assistant on a clean install to an external USB 3.0 drive, it took about 20 minutes to import about 150 GB worth of apps, documents, data & users.
I've only used Migration Assistant once, about two years ago. It was messy, but still I don't recall it taking too long. It's too bad you didn't use Setup Assistant on the very first boot. It is vastly superior. I've used Setup Assistant maybe two dozen times on fresh installs for dev work, and it works quite fast and clean.

  • Slow Boot Up Time for 13inch Macbook Air?

I just bought the $1199 Macbook Air (2012).  It works great but the start up time from when I hit the power button is significantly slower than my 2011 Macbook air.  My 2012 takes about 35-40 seconds to boot-up.  My 2011 takes about 15-10 seconds.  I have downloaded all the updates and restarted several times but every time its still 35-40 seconds,  Is this normal for the 2012's?  Thanks.

Gbowen.. i had the same problem .. i found this to be the solution:
"If your computer starts up after a brief delay or displays a question mark while starting up, you may need to select a startup disk. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Startup Disk, and select a disk."
I selected macintosh (although it was the only disk there & then restarted... now boot up is 10sec instead of 40 seconds.. WOW!)

  • How do i get my limited internal storage of my macBook Air to use iCloud for photos library now on external drive -- I want to take my photos with me on my macBook Air?

My primary computer is a macBook Air (late 2011). I have two external hard drive attached when I have it on my desk at home. I want to take it with me sometimes and not have to also lug a 3 TB external drive also. How do I get it set up similar to my music library with iTunes Match. The library is on the internal drive, but the media itself is on the external drive.
How do I get the same kind of result as seeing my library on my iOS devices?

I have already turned on iCloud Photo Library and it works just fine for my iPhone. BUT, what I want is for it work on my main machine, the macBook Air. I do NOT have an iMac or other to store the "system" Photos library. I do Not have room on my internal drive for the macBook Air ("system" library is located on an external drive). I don't want to have to lug that 3 TB drive with me. It also will not let me move the library file. The library file is close to 40 Gbytes and I have less than 20 left on my internal drive (and I don't dare let it get much smaller than this)....
Any ideas as to how to do this?
For my iTunes library, I ran into a similar issue, but I simply started a new library and dragged the files (on my external drive) into iTunes. This told iTunes where they were without copying them to the internal drive.
I would think something similar should work with Photos, but I don't know how to do it.

  • Steps to take before a workflow can begin

    Hi,
I am trying to create one Workflow definition from the SWDD transaction. When I get the first screen, I try to save by giving the abbreviation "z_test_wf" and Name "WF_Learning". When I press 'enter', I get an error message saying "Prefix number: entry missing for system DM0 client 800". I am trying it in the training system.
I think we have to do some customization before we start creating Workflow. Can you please describe all the initial customization we have to take care before starting the Workflow?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Steps to take before selling?

So I bit the bullet and ordered a new macbook. After receiving it and getting it set up, how would I go about 'sterilizing' this G3 before sale on ebay? I don't have the restore disks. Would just yanking out the hard drive and selling the iBook without it be the best route, or is there an easier way, like maybe just trashing my user account and deleting all the keychain info?
The main thing is security. I don't want my data floating around out there. When I sold my PC, I just used boot and nuke and used the restore disk. If only this were so cut-and-dried.
    Thanks in advance!

Here is an article that will tell you what to do:
Mac OSX: How to zero all data on a disk:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107437
Some people have also recommended both zeroing the disk and then overwriting it with 2 or 3 really stupid movies--something like "Mars Attack" I suppose.
You could also remove the old hard drive and maybe even install a new one. I think a working computer will fetch considerably more than a non-working one.
It is unfortunate that you do not have the original install discs. If you have the retail Tiger install disc, you can reinstall OSX, but you won't be able to reinstall the other software that originally came bundled on your computer. It may be that you could copy these applications onto an external hard drive and then back onto the computer after installing OSX. If you do this, you would want to restore only the software that originally came on the computer and not anything that you may have added. If you do not, you should divulge that the computer just has the OS on it and none of the other software it originally came with. You should also let your retail copy of Tiger go with the G3 and divulge that you do not have any of the original install CD's.
    Hope this helps. Good luck!

  • Selling 1st Gen Touch - steps to take before turning over?

So I've never sold one before, and I'd like to secure it before selling. Should I just do a restore? I want to make sure all my email settings, wifi, pictures, etc. (basically all personal stuff) is removed and the item is secure before turning it over. Any checklist you can recommend that I should abide by?

    Hello HurlyBurly51,
Yes, restoring the iPod will delete all content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings. Just follow the steps outlined in this Apple support document to restore the iPod.

  • Yosemite upgrade, right after entering my account password, a file starts loading before my desktop appears. (I see a download bar as if a file is loading).  Never saw that before Yosemite. I have a Macbook Air.

Some multiple issues since Yosemite install...working them out.  But I am puzzled by this.  Never witnessed loading of files before desktop since my Windows days!  Is this normal?  I am especially curious because right after upgrade, I had, and resolved an issue with DownLite that I did not know I had and somehow possibly got 'awakened' with Yosemite.  Want to be sure all is good....
    Thanks!

p.s.  ......this happens EVERY TIME after a reboot; but NOT after signing back on after putting my mac to sleep.

  • MacOS won't boot normal - only safemode works - Macbook Air

    Hi,
hope someone can help me here. Running 10.5.4 since it came out, never had a problem. Restarted my Macbook Air this morning and get a four-language message I should restart my Mac which I did with the result that I got the same message again and again. Tried safe-mode and MacOS starts and there doesn't seem to be a problem with the hdd but sound and video-files won't play correctly (graphic card problem?). Since I am out of country right now I also don't have the OS CD with me. Thank you for your efforts.

  • Selling iPhone 2G, upgrading to 3G, steps to take?

    Hello all,
I am selling my iPhone 2G and upgrading to a 3G this week, and wanted to make sure I knew the proper steps to take before doing so. I know that I will need to restore the 2G for the new owner. What I'm curious about though, is how do I make sure I can get all of the information, apps, contacts etc. into my 3G? Thanks in advance for all of the help!

Sync your iPhone with iTunes, and also select iTunes > File menu > Transfer Purchases From... to move anything bought on the phone into iTunes. With the old phone, before you sell it, select Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings (that clears out the data on the phone, with a secure wipe assuming you are running v2.x), and remove the SIM card.
When you get your new phone, you'll have the option to set it up from the Backup of the old phone - do that. The only thing that does not transfer over are the passwords (network and voicemail - so you'll need to set those up again).

  • Early 2014 Macbook Air Boot Camp update?

    Hello support community,
I have recently switch to Mac, and find the machine very easy to work with. But still i miss some windows application, and i thought that my Mac would have boot camp support. I have never been so wrong, as the boot camp cannot download the lastest updates
So, my question is, do anyone know when they will release official Boot camp update for this Macbook air early 2014?
Also, should i play it hard using the rEFIt? Driver conflict may be an issue there.
Please help, and sorry if I did anything wrong, as this is my first post.

I'm afraid they are not the case. I prepared a FAT usb, the copying process was done, and it stuck right at the "Downloading updates" kind of things for hours. After some research, I deducted that this is because, according to recent boot camp update, the MacBook Air 2014 is yet to appear on the list of supported devices.
Guess I'll have to wait a bit more.
