My mobo (MSI P7N Diamond 780i SLI / 570i SLI)
No overclocking.
CPU is Intel Core2 Duo E6850 3.00 Ghz
Memory - 4Gig - Kingston Hyper KHX8500AD2K2/4G
GPU - nVidia GeForce 9800 GT
PSU - ThermalTake Toughpower 850 AP.
There are no other cards in the system.
The SATA drives are organised thus..
SATA 1 - OCZ Vertex - Windows 7 Home (64bit) Retail version
SATA 2 - Data HD
SATA 3 - Mirror A
SATA 4 - Mirror B
SATA 5 - Mirror A
SATA 6 - Mirror B
I have Ver 1.51 BIOS, and latest nVidia nForce drivers (11.1.0.33) installed and my motherboard revision is 02.
I want to install a second copy (Dual Boot) of Windows 7 on SATA 2. Do I need to take any special precautions to ensure I don't damage my Mirrored Arrays?

Apologies for starting a new thread. It just seemed to me that the problem I now have is completely different to the earlier thread and needed a clearer explanation of the position and a new title. But I won't do it again without asking - apologies.
Both Win 7s are 64 bit - drivers exactly the same. I no longer see this as a Windows issue. With the drives connected and RAID/Enabled set in the BIOS I can't get anywhere near Windows. It gets stuck in the Mediashield BIOS with no way out - not to windows or even to the mobo BIOS via the DEL key. Not an ideal situation :-)
Really my question is - what is Mediashield doing? What exactly is it looking for that's not turning up? Or has it just got lost? Whatever happend to defensive programming!!! There are posts going back years about this Detecting Array hang.
I have had this problem before and I found the only way to fix it was to run Darik's Nuke & Boot on the drives. Repartitioning them and reformatting did not get rid of the hang condition. I never did understand what was left on the drive after repartitioning/formatting that upset MediaShield. Hence my question what is the MediaShield BIOS looking for!
I'm beginning to dispair that I will ever get a stable system running. I have all the (not insignificant) Mirrored data backed up but it takes a long time to reinstate the arrays once they have broken. I have been working on this Win 7 install for about 4 weeks and have rebuilt the arrays 3 times already. I would like to get on with some work!!!! :-)

We bought a site license at considerable expense to update our users to the latest Acrobat (too many people not patching and getting viruses). I'm trying to push out via SCCM (uninstall previous version via Adobe Customization Wizard) and when I try to update users running anything other than 9.0.0 I get a message that it needs the dll file in my subject. It is not extracting the file from the data1.cab file and dropping it where the old version was previously. The only option so far is to have people browse to the file (out on a server somewhere) so the install can continue. This is unacceptable because 500 (out of 5000 we are trying to upgrade) people will get a pop up asking this when we are upgrading in the background (and they won't know why). Is there a way I can tell the installer to use the extracted cab file (which I could extract beforehand)? This is driving me insane and it isn’t making my boss very happy either. He feels he wasted $$ if we have to "sneakernet" to all these machines. Anyone have any ideas or who I can call at Adobe? My first attempt at tech support with them was laughable.

I'm not going to be much help, but I'll try.
First, Adobe's first effort at supporting SCCM by providing a SCUP catalog is only in prerelease. There's no public info available at the moment. It sounds like some of you issues are SCCM specific.
However, I did ping high level support and got this response:
If he has a volume license, he should be transferred to a different queue in Customer Support. You might see if that happened when he called customer support.
There's nothing specific to version 9 in the KBs, but it looks like it sometimes happens if someone has installed Acrobat previously with a suite.
There are third-party discussions on this if you google it with SCCM or SMS.

LEOPARD INSTALL FAILED - 2ND COPY OF LEOPARD!

I tried putting Leopard on - the disc was scanned and it then went on to install. About 1/3 way through, screen came up with "INSTALL FAILED... MAC OS X could not be installed on your computer. The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement."
I went back to the Apple store in Regent Street, got a new copy, re-installed the computer with the original recovery discs, and then re-installed the Leopard disc. All was going well until again I got through the 1/3 part of install and the same thing happened as quoted above.
I can't believe the SECOND new copy I got can also be faulty... any other ideas? My machine is completely newly installed, and still no joy.
Does anyone know what else can be done?

OK great news. I finally got it to install on my G5.
See my previous post for the trial and errors.
Here is what I finally did:
1. Unplugged all external drives.
2. Removed all memory except what shipped with my G5. (don't skip this step because other's have said they found bad memory and that solved their problem too.)
3. Boot from the Leopard installer.
4. Ran disk utility before trying to install.
5. Repaired disk permisions from insaller disk.
6. Cant' recall if I rebooted again or not... sorry.
7. Installed Leopard flawlessly. (this was the first time it made it past about 75% before saying "Installation Failed" ... "this DVD disk is damaged etc."
8. I am back up and running.

I have CS5.1 on my PC and I want to install a 2nd copy onto my MacBook. Can I do that?

I just downloaded the software from my Adobe Account list but when I get to where they ask for the serial number it tells me the serial number is not valid for this product.
Please help! I'm having issues with my PC and I'd feel a lot more comfortable if I had another version on my MacBook which is more where I'd use it anyway.

You cannot use a Windows serial number on a Mac - and vice versa.
Your options:
Upgrade to CS6 for Mac
Join the Cloud
Install Windows (via Bootcamp or Parallels) on your Mac then install CS5.1 for Windows in the virtual machine on your Mac.

Can't install 2nd copy of Photoshop CC

Hello, I've just purchased a photoshop CC and couldn't install the 2nd copy on my home Mac.
Creative Cloud keeps telling me that I got the latest version of Photoshop CC installed but I don't have it actually, I have never downloaded it on my home Mac.

Keeps crashing after Yosemite install - Need thoughts on what to do...

My 2013 Macbook Air keeps crashing after Yosemite install, time between crashes are more random than consistent and it can be anytginh from one hour to 6 hours between crashes. Enclosed the report below with the hope that someone has some tips on what to do here.... I've formatted the computer, reinstalled the OS and checked the drive for errors and I've found nothing so far.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

I need to turn off the iTunes update prompt programmatically (during install)- How?

I am deploying iTunes ver 10.2.214 to Windows 7 X64 PCs. When the PCs launch iTunes they see a prompt, "A new version of iTunes is available. Would you like to download it now?"
I need to disable that prompt during the iTunes install. I have downloaded ORCA and set SCHEDULE_ASUW to zero as per the instructions on this website:

I can open the iTunes64.msi and see that the property is set correctly (set to 0) but after I install using that .MSI it still prompts for the iTunes update.
How can I turn that off???

With CS5 upgrade installed, do I need to keep CS4 installed as well?

I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 by purchasing the "upgrade" package.
In my applications I now have CS4 and CS5 installed and they show as two separate applications.
What I would like to know is
1. Do I need to keep CS4 installed for CS5 to work, as it is only an "upgrade"?
2. When I buy a new computer, do I have to install CS4 on it before installing the "upgrade" version of CS5?

I must admit that comes as a bit of a surprise.
I had presumed that the "upgrade" version of CS5, being so much cheaper to buy than the full original, would check your hard drive to make sure you actually had bought a legal copy of CS4.
Does that mean there is no difference between the "upgrade" and the full price installation discs?
By the way, I know I'm old sometimes can't find something even when it's right under my nose, but is there a "LOG OUT" button anywhere on this forum?

Do I need to keep "Install xcode.app"

I've recently been trying to recover hard drive space so I've been using Disk Inventory X to scan my hard drive.
I've noticed that I have two massive apps in my apps folder:
- Xcode
- Install Xcode
I'm guessing that I don't need to keep "install xcode" around because it's probably just an installer and doesn't actually do anything, but before I delete it I was wondering if anyone knew? I haven't found anything on google.

Thanks for the response baltwo, I think I can elaborate a bit though:
After a bunch more research, I found out:
1. it's ok to delete the "install xcode" file
2. one consequence is that it will stop automatic updates from coming through
3. there are ways to mitigate the update problem
So it's kinda lame that you need to keep a 3.2GB app around just so that you can get xcode updates, but you can actually use some tricks to convince the app store to give you updates. The best one I saw was to copy the app to an external hard drive and creating a symlink to it from your applications folder. That means that when the drive is connected the app store will think that the app is installed, and it will look for updates, but you don't have to waste 3.2GB of laptop drive space just for updates!
I haven't tried any of this but I will tonight.

No , you are not required to do so. it just happened coz you have selected both the options 32 BIT and 64 BIT (default), for correct installation if you have 64 bit compatible OS follow these steps..
First do a clean uninstall.
Run the Photoshop CS6 installer.
Enter your serial number. Click Acccept.
On the right side of the Options panel under the 64-bit heading, uncheck the box for Photoshop CS6. Leave the "Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64-bit)" option checked.
Finish the installation.
But keeping both the files does not do any harm excep the storage issues (it increases).
Its all my assumption and experience both but hope you will get the answer.

No, but it's not essential since upgrades include the full program code. The serial number differentiates a full version from an upgrade.
If the CS6 ugrade installer cannot find an earlier qualifying version already installed, it will ask you to enter the serial number for an earlier qualifying version instead. You then enter an earlier version qualifying serial and the CS6 installer will continue.
When I'm installing (or reinstalling) Creative Suites where the latest version is an upgrade version, I only ever install the latest version - even if no Adobe software was previously installed on that particular computer.

IMovie 10.0.2 keeps failing during install

I have been trying to update iMovie but it keeps failing during install. It gets nearly to the end, then I get the error "Cannot install Titles". I see in the reviews that this is happening to many people.
I am running Mac OS 10.9.1. I can't run iMovie because it says it is being updated. I can't update, so iMovie is trashed. All because I followed Apple's directions.
What's the fix?

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk.
