Precautions using a Mac computer in a public space with free open wireless
Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Maybe once a week or so I will be working on my computer in a public wifi place, such as a coffeehouse.
For internet safety, what is recommended that I do to help safeguard my computer's info?
I note that under System Preferences there is:
Network>Firewall.
After turning Firewall On, are there further precautions I should take?
Does anyone have any info on how on how well this Firewall (built into the OS) works?
A properly configured OS X Firewall will protect your computer from virtually all threats.
Ensure file sharing is turned off.
Be aware any unencrypted information can be intercepted, eg passwords sent in plain text, or e-mail, etc...

My ipod nano 4th generation was set up/registered using my mac computer. Unfortunately it was plugged into a pc and all my files, (song, pics, etc) were erased. When I plugged my ipod into my mac to sync it again, it wouldn't even appear in the source list. I can't even click on it to restore it. It's simply not there. My husband and I share a new PC. We have different music tastes and each have an iphone. How can we both use our one computer and one itunes program with separate music libraries and separate iphones?
Each device only syncs waht you select.
Select only what you want for each phone. -
How do you agree to the latest iCloud Terms of Service if you don't have an iOS device only a Mac computer and an Apple TV with an iCloud account?

A bit later I discovered that Photo Stream was not working on my Windows 7 PC either. If I opened the iCloud control panel and put a check in the box to turn on Photo Stream, and then closed and reopened the control panel, the check mark was gone again. Also, nothing happened when I clicked on the options button beside the Photo Stream check box. I already had version 2 of the iCloud control panel so I could not upgrade further.
I ended up uninstalling the iCloud control panel, rebooting, downloading a fresh copy from Apple, and reinstalling it. This worked and I now have photo stream working on my Windows 7 system as well. -

There is no possible way to use a thunderbolt display with any MacPro or any non-thunderbolt connection. Thats why Apple still sells the LED Cinema Display.

To those curious in the future about using a "retina display", no current (as of 2013) video card could support what would be "retina" on a desktop monitor. Apple's mDP connector supports a maximum resolution of 5760 × 2160, which means it cant even run a 4K monitor, and dual-link DVI supports even less.
You would need a new display connector standard with minimum 20% more bandwidth to support a "retina" resolution of twice Apple's Cinema/Thunderbolt display. -

I am using Pages for iPad and since new update, it won't open. I do not own a MAC computer, therefore I have no idea how to solve this issue. I have a bunch of important docs on pages.
Check the following settings:
1. Settings>Pages>Use iCloud>On
2. Settings>iCloud>Documents and Data>On -

I had to go through this today (got a new computer recently). I ended up pluggng in my phone to the new computer and then doing a sync and a backup, and Image Capture to get all your pics just in case. Then I did an update check wnen iOS 5 became active and it said that it was going to erase everything and I hit OK. And after that install was complete, I did "restore from backup" which said it would restore everything that was backed up except the new iOS 5 firmware (that stayed put). Just a few tweaks here and there and it all worked for me.

It could be a compatibility issue as well as Acrobat 8 is an older version.
Do you get any error message while registering for the product?
Try repairing it and once and also check for updates as well.
Is it happening with all the word files or any specific one'?

I have been going to the library and book stores with free wifi for years now and I would like to know how someone can get into my computer and take a picture of me while I'm surfing with my computer without my consent? I know this can't be legal! I know it was being done because they jumped when I came out from where I was sitting when I saw my computer snap my photo and I did not have the photo booth up!I recommend that you get a littlesnitch. littlesnitch will track your Web traffic and tell you which applications are sending data from your computer. It give you the option of allowing the traffice or stopping the traffic. Be sure to run it awhile because it will trigger a number of alerts. In trail mode, it will run for three hours per boot for a about a month.

You should look around your computer & see if there is any malware running.

Downloading Reader for Windows using a Mac Computer
I have a dual boot Imac going online on Mac partition only.
I want to download, onto the Mac OS partition, the Adobe Reader that is compatible with Windows XP so that I can transfer it to the partition using Windows XP.
The Adobe Reader download site recognizes a Mac OS and offers me only the Reader compatible with Mac OS. (I specifically choose NOT to go online using Windows XP part of the Imac.)

I have tried quiting Firefox and setting Safari to my default browser. Links open on Safari just fine. When I go back to Firefox as my default, I continue to have the same issue, links will not open in Firefox.
You can also quit and relaunch Firefox and then
the link will open in mac mail. -
Hi. Not sure what happened but I was able to use my ipad in December and it was backed up(sync with itunes). Now there is a message on the screen "iCloud Backup.....your icloud hasn't been backed up in 3 weeks...." and to click on ok.
I'm unable to clear the message. I syned it with itunes and tried again but its still there and I can't do anything with the ipad. The ipad go blank in a couple seconds, and I cannot use slide to unlock.
Can someone please help me with this.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
