Precision editing green screen

So I tried using the green screen function with iMovie09. I first put the background clip into the project, then dragged the foreground on top of it, and then selected green screen in the pop up menu. Both clips were 5.0s.
I found it impossible to coordinate the clips so that both appear at the same time when the movie is played back. Also, sometimes the transition from the previous clip would not work at all, and sometimes it would but the two 'green screen' clips would start at different times.
I had a One-to-One session at my local Apple store yesterday, and the guy in the store and I spent 40 minutes trying to get it right, trying to tweak the clips in normal view and the precision editor. We also played with the transition times and tried deleting it all and re-importing the clips and transitions to the project. Never could get it synchronized...
Anyone else had this kind of problem? Anyone found a way to sync up the two clips with green screen?
Tks

what is your "background/foreground" source - both are imported clips from my Canon HD camcorder (digital tape)
have you tried to adjust the thumbnails view in your project? - yes. In the Apple store, the guy tried changing the thumbnails to 10 secs and then 30 secs. In precision editor we tried adjusting also.
Regarding the transitions not being visible, if you are positioning the green screen layer on top of them, that's expected. - yes, it seemed that we were occassionally over/underlapping one of the clips with the transition, which caused the transition not to work. But even when we had this fixed and the transition worked, the background and foreground clips would appear at (very) slightly different time.
drag the beginning of the green screen layer at the very beginning of the background layer. - yup, seems like that would do the trick, but as above, there was a split second difference between the beginning of the clips. The foreground was my daughter's face, and the best we could do was get her to appear about 1/4 second after the background. We thought the transition would 'override' the start of both clips so they would appear simultaneously (and hence tried increasing the transition time), but it wouldn't work.
As per the other thread, it would also pause/hang up for a few seconds on every adjustment which is rather infuriating on top of this problem.

  • How do I superimpose graphic in EDITED green screen video?

I know that I can throw a graphic in my project and then take a video from the event library and drop it over, choosing green screen in contextual menu. What I'm having a MAJOR issue with is how do it with an EDITED video. It appears that once I combine the graphic and unedited video, I can no longer cut/edit it once it's added in the project and I obiously can't do that in the event library either, so what are my options?
Essentially I have two projects saved (neither avaible in the event library because the video has been edited and the graphic cannot exist in the event library). IS IT POSSIBLE to combine the two so that the graphic becomes the green screen background? Because if it is, I can't figure it out and so far, from my online search, neither can anyone else.

  • Strange problem when editing green screen clips

    Hi all,
I work as a technician in a High School.
    Recently I was doing some green screen work with a class, we were using 10 macbooks to edit. Out of the 10, 6 had this same problem;
At some point after inserting the green screen clips and the background, the project part of the iMovie window stops displaying anything, iMovie acts like the clips are still there though (If I move the cursor over the now empty space, I still see a preview in the preview window). But nothing is visible and nothing can be moved or changed.
Closing iMovie and reopening doesn't work, restarting the macbook doesn't work. The problem seems to be saved to the project file, if I open a new project, the new project is fine, but if I re-open the broken one, it's still broken. The only thing we could do was completely restart and delete the project file.
I hope this makes sense, due to this problem half of the class couldn't finish their work. The same problem has also occurred to another student who was working with green screen in iMovie 09 on an iMac.

    Hi Ted,
I've seen this issue before. One thing to remember is that iMovie has a live rendering feature, so sometimes during playback, the viewer does not always display correctly.
I don't know if you tried taking the green screen clip out, then re-adding it.
Also, trying to simply delete the preference file can fix the problem. Home folder>library>pref>imovie.plist
delete that and see if the problem persists.
Doing this will not effect any projects students have made in iMovie.

  • Green Screen/Special Characters

Hey everybody, is it possible to edit green screen footage in iMovie. I can do it in Final Cut Pro fine, but I wasn't sure if I could do it in iMovie or not. Also, I am having problems being able to insert the special characters from the Edit pull-down menu. Any help with either is appreciated. Thanks.

This Stupendous Software iMovie plug-in will handle green-screening.
Note, though, that it appears to be for the earlier generation of PowerPC Macs, not Intel Macs ..and you don't say which Mac you have.
It should run on an Intel Mac, but it may automatically start iMovie in 'Rosetta' emulation mode, so iMovie may run a bit slower than normal, if you have an Intel Mac.

  • Where is the green screen key in Premier Elements 10 for Mac?

Anybody know where the green screen key feature is?  Or how to edit green screen videos?  Plenty of tutorials on YouTube but I can't find the Green Screen effect.  Thanks.

There are some PrE Effects, that are only available on the PC, though not for the Mac, but I do not have a list handy,
I do not recall if Green Screen Keying might be one of them.
Perhaps our MOD, Steve Grisettin, who is fully X-platform, can comment.
    Good luck,

  • Hey all - I am just learning version 6.0.6 - can't use green screen footage

When I try to use chroma key (edit green screen footage I've shot) the option is greyed out. Thanks for the help!

Sorry to break it to you, but FCP6 is not FCPX. Go to the Final Cut Studio forum with your question.
Er, this discussion showed up as an FCPX discussion when I clicked on it. Not sure why, but i apologize if you posted it  correctly in the first place....

  • Inserting green screen person into scene

Is there any technique to use when you insert a person that you have shot on green screen into a scene to make it appear more real? When I do insert them, they appear to be in front of the scene, just wondering how to make them look like PART of the scene.
    Thanks

    ruez,
I shoot and edit green screen footage all the time. Early on I realized that FCE or FCP could not give me the results I needed. I purchased a third party program called dvMattepro3. Check it out at dvgarage.com and see if it could work for you. The demo is free to download and try before you buy. For me the $199 price was worth every penny. There may be other solutions, but this is fast and really easy use.
    Good luck

  • Green screen editing in iMovie 10.0.04?

You used to be able to do green screen editing in iMovie, is that no longer the case in 10.0.04?

sure, there's green-screen - but handling is a bit different to previous versions of iMovie =simpler , no need to switchON any 'advanced' things ...

  • Imovie 9 green screen -- audio and video editing problems

I seem to have discovered that once you add a video (the "front" part) to a background using green screen, you can no longer do certain edits on the front part's audio or video.
I tried to do a manual audio fade on a certain clip, and it didn't work.   Now I am trying to bring the entire audio for a certain clip down to zero, and even though the little speaker icon shows no sound waves, normal 100% sound is coming from the clip.
Likewise with the video.  I tried to do a Split Clip on the front part and it simply didn't work.
Anybody have some words of wisdom?  Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion Brad, that makes sense... However, I was hoping there was a "straight" iMovie solution.
I'd prefer to not have to 1) spend any money and 2) use a program to do something iMovie is already supposed to do.

  • Green Screen AFTER Edit?

I am using iMovie '09 to edit an interview with a green screen.  The interview is already cut up and mixed in with still pictures.  Is there any way I can still ustilize the green screen tool without having to re-edit since the proper order is to lay down your background first?  Thanks in advance for your help.

There are some tools to transfer fcp7 projects to fcpX.  Go the app store and do a search for 7toX.  I haven't spent much time with fcpX.  I did purchase  7toX but didn't have much luck transferring a project successfully.  Might have been user error, might not, so I'd seriously suggest that you test your workflow before actually trying to use any workflow.

  • Editing video after adding a green screen

iMovie 11: I've created a green screen background video, imported it into iMovie and dragged and drop the event onto my desired background within the project. While I can edit the background video, I can't seem to find a way to edit the video I dropped. What am I missing?

  • I use green screen editing on vegas alot, is it worth it to buy PS and use it for that application on a chrome book?

I just bought a acer chrome book being told I can utilize PhotoShop on it and keep an easy platform to use. is it worth the trouble using PS for green screen on a chrome book?

We don't really do Green Screen with Photoshop, but it certainly does an excellent job of making transparent backgrounds for still images.  It wouldn't be able to do this with video though.

  • How do I get blue/green screen option & split screen?

How do I get blue/green screen option & split screen?  On iMovie, these options were presented to me, whenever I dragged a clip over another clip already in timeline.  Where do I find these choices in Final Cut X ?  Also, on iMovie, to resume project production, I would then hit the "done" button -- Where do I find a button to finalize changes?  Also , where do I find the option of "precision editor" ?   Thanks

Green screen is done with the Keyer effect.
There is no Done except for transformations in the viewer.
Double click an edit point to open the Precision Editor.

  • HDCam to DVCPro HD Green screen---best way to go?

Green screen shoot on HDCam 29.97p. No have HDCam ability. Should I:
-send out for dub to DVCPro HD and then either
-capture by firewire from 1200A Panny deck
    or
-from AJA card by HD SDI?
    Will either give acceptable results?
Or gonna have to bite the bullet and send tape and a hard drive
somewhere and have HDCam captured to get acceptable
    stuff to composite with?
    Thanks in advance.
    p2

If you dub it to DVCPROHD, that's where the "damage" is done... so won't make any difference capturing thru HD SDI or FireWire quality wise... But stay at 1080... don't go down to 720... as long as that machine of yours plays back 1080... better look into that for sure.
It should still be OK though as far as the green screening ability because it's still in a 4:2:2 colorspace.
That said, If you could capture from the HDCAM via SDI and go to ProRes... you'd be better off in theory.
