Precision problem in Sybase
I tried to insert a double value "0.0491" in Sybase. I found that the value stored in the table is "0.04909999999" that I think is precision loss problem. Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can insert the value exactly "0.0491" rather than "0.04909999999"
You can't. That's as accurate as it will go. That's what you get when you don't have infinite bits to represent floating points.

we have problems with our reports in Collection Manager again. We reboot the CM, but the problems continue.
This is the log of the CM. What can be the problem? Thanks tomo

Problems displaying Sybase Numeric DataTypes
Hello,
I have a universe built on top of a Sybase ASE database. The universe contains a Number object which maps to a Sybase Numeric data type with a data type length of 9 and precision of 19.
When we pull the data form this object onto a webi report the values are being rounded up for example 75000000041611650 instead of 75000000041611700.
Has anyone encountered this problem before and what was the solution? We are on SAP BI 4.1 SP5
Thanks..Hi ,
For numeric data Bo will not support data having digits > 15.
So for correct output convert the numberic data to varchar in universe then use the same object on report.
Thanks,

Problems with Sybase 12 to Oracle 10g migration
Hi,
I'm using SQL Developer to test a migration between Sybase and Oracle and it doesn't work (both online and offline)
I've create a dedicated user account and connection, with the roles and privileges required (as seen in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32485_01/doc/appdev.110/b31695/migration.htm#i1005739)
I've created the migration repository without any problems (using the above user account).
QUICK MIGRATION
- select the source Sybase connection: OK
- select the target Oracle connection: OK
- select the referential: OK
- verify privileges before migration: OK
- migrate tables only and click Next
## window closes and nothing happens ## - nothing on Captured Model pane
CAPTURE SOURCE SYBASE DATABASE
- right click on the Sybase connection in the Connections pane
- choose Capture Sybase
## window closes and nothing happens ## - nothing on Captured Model pane
OFFLINE CAPTURE
- create database capture scripts: OK
- launch the database scripts (SYB12_OFFLINE_CAPTURE.BAT): OK
- load database capture script output (sybase12.ocp)
## window closes and nothing happens ## - nothing on Captured Model pane
I can't find any relevant logs or trace from the application.
I even tried to use the capture file sybasemigration.zip from the "Migrating a Sybase Database to Oracle Database 11g" web page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/hol08/sqldev_migration/sybase/migrate_sybase_otn.htm), but the result was the same.
Does anyone encountered the same problems? Does someone knows where are the logs (if any)?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
PedroHi Pedro,
What version of SQL Developer are you using?
Can you browse your Sybase connection in SQL Developer, to see its tables for example?
If not, then you may need to point SQL Developer to your JTDS 1.2 driver again.
Are you capturing a non system database ? SQL Developer wont migration master or tempdb ...
Can you try running SQL Developer from the command line and watch the command line for any errors during the capture.
\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe

Problem in Sybase Metadata accessor information
Hi!
I am accessing Sybase database thru JConnect 5.5. If I try to access Metadata information, it throws the following exception. As per JConnect documentation, to access metadata info, one has to run a stored procedure i.e., sql_server.sql(for versions lesser than sybase 12.0 - I am using sybase 11.0.1) which is available with JConnect 5.5. I did the same. But still I am not able to access the metadata information. It throws the following Exception:
java.sql.SQLException: JZ0SJ: Metadata accessor information was not found on this database. Please install the required tables as mentioned in the jConnect documentation.
Thanks in advance.
rgds.,
s. saravana sankaran.I am having the same problem.
The docs are saying:
To support JDBC DatabaseMetaData methods, Sybase provides a set of stored procedures that jConnect can call for metadata about a database. These stored procedures must be installed on the server for the JDBC metadata methods to work.
If the stored procedures for providing metadata are not already installed in a Sybase server, you can install them using one of two stored procedure scripts provided with jConnect:
sql_server.sql installs stored procedures on an Adaptive Server database.
sql_anywhere.sql installs stored procedures on an Adaptive Server Anywhere database.
I executed the script but i am still facing the same problem. -
Hello everyone,
I have a problem about precision range in MSSQL 2008. I am trying to transfer data from Oracle db to MSSQL db. One column in Oracle db has a precision larger than 38, which is '76.43448990049567164100213185805651059565'. Therefore, I give an execution error
like;
Caused By: weblogic.jdbc.sqlserverbase.ddc: [FMWGEN][SQLServer JDBC Driver]The number, 76.43448990049567164100213185805651059565, has a precision larger than allowed by the SQL Server.
What can I do at this point? Please help me
Thank YouI have been posting answers to this question But its not getting posted - donno why. Here goes..
Dilek,
Do you really need that many decimal places? try limiting it down if possible. BEcause, SQL Server allows a max of precision value of 38 only in case of decimal/numeric. So you have the following alternatives:
Reduce the number of decimal places and push it into SQL Server column having a datatype say, numeric(38,36)
Split the value into two columns one for the absolute part having int type and another for decimal which can either have numeric(38,38) or an int which is to be converted to decimal during usage.
Store as varchar type - but this would make it difficult to be used for calculation (Beware, even when you convert a 40 digit precision value from varchar to numeric you'll get the same error). So if it just for projecting the data (just for select) varchar
should do fine.
--method 1
declare @tab table ( num numeric(38,36))
insert @tab select 76.434489900495671641002131858056510595--65
select * from @tab
--method 2
declare @tab table ( num int,dec numeric(38,38))
insert @tab select 76,0.43448990049567164100213185805651059565
select * from @tab
select cast(num as varchar)+substring(cast(dec as varchar(100)),2,len(cast(dec as varchar(100)))),* from @tab
select num+dec,* from @tab --decimal places get reduced beware..
--method 3
declare @tab table ( num varchar(100))
insert @tab select 76.434489900495671641002131858056510595--65 -- ignoring last two digits
insert @tab select '76.43448990049567164100213185805651059565' -- as varchar
select cast(num as decimal(38,36)) from @tab --produces result for first one and error for second instance
--Just normal
select 76.434489900495671641002131858056510595 --works
select 76.43448990049567164100213185805651059565 -- doesnt work

Pen Tool Precision Problem.
Hello Adobe forum,
Recently after opening a document in Photoshop & using the Pen tool, the precision gets thrown off. When I click to add a new anchor point, it doesn't place the point at the end of the pen, but rather at the base of the pen. Any suggestions? I'm on a Mac platform & using CS4.
Thanks in advance!This is the info I found about my Graphic Card:
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 2600
Type: Display
Bus: PCIe
Slot: Slot-1
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x9588
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-B1480A-252
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.252
I'm not too concerned. It's my work computer that's doing it. I don't have any problems with my iMac at home. And if switching viewing modes fixes it, I'll live. -
Hi,
I have class with an amount variable whose type is float. If a value like 999999.99 is set to this variable, when I try to display this in JSP, the precision is lost. It displays 1000000. But my requirement is to print 999999.99. Is there any to solve this problem? The constraint to this prioblem is I can't change the data type of this variable. (Actually this class is generated through Castor. The xsd type is float. I am not supposed to change the XSD).
Please advise.There's nothing to be done about it if you can't change the data type. See for yourself: System.out.println(999999.99F == 1000000F); // yep, they are equalBlame the person who decided that you should use float.

Which schema are you using, recordset(SELECT) or command(INSERT), and are you using and ODBC driver or a specific OLE-DB provider?
If you are using a select statement then when the UUT record is created, the database logger tries to find out what the value was so that it can write that value for the foreign key for the steps. Make sure that the statements in the schema are using a server side cursor for your tables so that if the database ODBC driver or provider that you are using can retrieve the key value from the database right after it creates the UUT record. If you are using server side cursors and this problem still occurs, it may be that the database ODBC driver or provider does not support getting the key value after the record is cre
ated.
Your only option might be to use command(INSERT) schema that generates key values in someway. The built in support is using an generated GUID value.
Also with some work, if supported, you could use stored procedures to generate the key.

Cx_Oracle.NUMBER precision problem ..
Hi All,
i understand that floating point numbers are inherently inaccurate, eg:
0.1 + 0.2 != 0.3
the problem i'm seeing is that:
in sqlplus, a query is returning 0.088 from the Oracle db server,
but cx_Oracle is changing the value to 0.08800000000000001.
at the interpretor, v = 0.088, retains 0.088...
(most likely, the precision is maintained upon definition),
is there a way to set the precision for cx_Oracle.NUMBER ?
thanks very much in advance!
samWhat about using one of these:
# t.py
import cx_Oracle
import decimal
db = cx_Oracle.connect("cj", "cj", "localhost/orcl")
cur = db.cursor()
cur.execute("select volume from goods")
rows = cur.fetchall()
print rows
cur = db.cursor()
cur.execute("select to_char(volume) from goods")
rows = cur.fetchall()
print rows
print float(rows[0][0])
def NumbersAsDecimal(cursor, name, defaultType, size, precision, scale):
if defaultType == cx_Oracle.NUMBER:
return cursor.var(str, 100, cursor.arraysize, outconverter = decimal.Decimal)
db.outputtypehandler = NumbersAsDecimal
cur = db.cursor()
cur.execute("select volume from goods")
rows = cur.fetchall()
print rowsOutput is:
$ python t.py
[(0.08800000000000001,)]
[('.088',)]
0.088
[(Decimal('0.088'),)] -
Urgent : double precision problem
This problem is reported on the forum lots of times by lots of people.
consider situation :
if ((2.9 - 1.1) == 1.8)
do something
else
do otherthings;
Its expected to do something on evaluation of condition in if statement .. instead it enters else part.
secondly, if somewhere in the code,
The BigDecimal can solve the problem in most of the situations but even it has some problems.. sometimes we need to format the contents of BigDecimal before displaying them.. formatting solves display problem but the value stored internally is not proper..
e.g.
formatting to 2 decimal places might display 12.35 for 12.349999 but the value stored in the variable is still 12.349999.
Please let me know if anybody has inputs on this.
Thanks in advance,Here is some code that may help you and others who are having a problem with double values. I created this class specifically to be used when using percentages. You can use it to round off values, I have yet to complete the code to round up or truncate values. Once you set the value you can then call the roundOff() method specifying how many decimal places you want to round off (i.e. 2 for percentages). You can then retrieve the value as a double or string or int or float.
I hope that you find this useful.

Crystal Reports XIR2 performance problem with Sybase IQ 15.2
Dear all,
we are facing a performances pb with Crystal reports and Sybase IQ 15.2, Does anyone have a similar issues and have a solution as ( design , or sybase IQ configuration...)
regards,
EricWow, not so much info please... for starters:
Is this in the designer or in an app?
Depending on the above, the following may, or may not apply:
What are you comparing the performance to?
What is the exact version of CR or what CR Service Packs have you applied?
If in an app , what your development language?
What CR SDK are you using?
Web or Win app?
How are you connecting to the database (OLE DB, ODBC, etc .)?

BigDecimal and Math.exp() precision problem
Hi,
I'm working with huge numbers, and I need to calculate
Math.exp(800)/Math.exp('also very big') = 'not so big'
One of the problems is that Math.exp is a double!!!
Is this possible in java, maybe with BigDecimal, or something like that.
Thanks in advance
LucaMath.exp(x) gives you e^x and not 10^x (I just mention it so you know. You can use some calculus,
e^x/e^y = e^(x-y)
It will helps if x and y are big but about equal in size. -
Precision Problem with CFQUERY
I have a column in Oracle which is a Number with precision
10, and scale 4.
Everytime I select anything from there from CF, it is
displaying all 4 decimals.
Say the number "1" is in one record, "2.2" is in the second
record, "3.0003" is in the third.
when I do a select all in a cfquery, I get:
1.0000
2.2000
3.0003
but if I were to select it in SQLPLUS, I get:
1
2.2
3.003
which is the result I desire. Why is Cold fusion adding zeros
to the cfquery? And how can I fix this?
Thanks,
boyblesUse
#val(your_col)# to display the result as you desire in the
output. It will "convert" your numeric "string" back to a number
and drop the trailing zeros.
