Precision T5810 - MDT

Just wanted to know if anyone else has encountered this issue:
Out of the box, the Precision T5810 I received had bios A05. By default, network card is enabled without PXE option). I enabled network with PXE option to image. Once the wim laid down and the computer rebooted, it was not able to connect to the network. It knew there was a network cable, but kept getting a 169.x.x.x IP address. I tried different ports, confirmed that there were available IP's, reset the TCP/IP stack, all to no avail. I finally rebooted the system, went back into the bios config, switched the nic back to enabled without PXE, and then it was able to continue.
I searched for a new bios update, and found A06. This doesn't mention anything about the behavior I encountered, but I also cannot find A05 on the site. I have applied the A06 bios and am testing again to see if the behavior recurs.
I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has seen this behavior.
Update: after applying the A06 bios, the behavior still occurs (lan w/pxe prevents the nic from connecting to the network during MDT task sequence). I have to change it to lan for the TS to continue).

Just another piece of info. If found another thread that discussed some issues with the Intel I217 NIC not loading in WinPE. The suggested workaround was to download the I217 driver directly from Intel - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18713/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-7- and load that. I just downloaded the driver and installed it in the 5810 I was using for testing (while it was in the state of not being able to connect due to the pxe option being enabled). After installing the newer driver and disabling/enabling the card, it now works. For the moment, I'm going to add that driver to MDT so it gets installed, but I will be reaching out to Dell about this too!

  • Dell Precision T5810 Core options and GPU config? Running CC on virtual desktops?

    Hi, two questions really but didn't want to start multiple threads.
    I tried searching for answers to my questions but was not very successful so am trying to post. I am looking at buying some computers for our office which will be using the CC subscription for their workflow. Predominately this is short form video editing on Premiere (3-10min, AVCHD & DSLR mix, 2-3 camera steams, 50/50 just as straight streams/multicam), some light to mid graphics on After Effect and Photoshop then compression through Media Encoder.
    Our media will be stored on a Small Tree shared storage server across a dedicated gigabit network.
    As Dell have just launch their new workstations using the new version of the Xeon 16 series with DDR4 RAM I was thinking of going down that road. Would I be better getting the Hex Core 1650v3, 500GB HDD, 16GB DDR4 2133 RAM with either a Quadro K2200 or Firepro W5100, or Quad Core 1620v3, 500GB HDD, 16GB DDR4 2133 RAM with Quadro K4200?
    As I understand it is important make sure systems are balanced between CPU, GPU, RAM and discs. Which of the above configs would perform better for our work, as I am not sure if the hex core will be more so with a lower GPU, or if the quad with a faster/more expensive GPU will perform better?
    I know when it comes to GPU's a kick off would be to say ditch the workstation line for a GTX to save money, but we have a business deal with Dell as a business their 3 year support is an important consideration to us something they do not support if we chop and change out unsupported components such as a GTX card.
    The other option I have been made by our IT department is that we could buy Dell servers, add graphics cards and run virtual desktops for the editors on them instead of buying stand alone towers. I have not really seen this being done before for video editing which suggests to me that this does not work for one reason or another, but I have not been able to find out much with my Google-fu (which again is probably a bad sign). Is this as bad an idea as I am assuming or is this a potential avenue.
    Hopefully that has all made sense and apologies if I have not followed any forum etiquette, (first time so be kind!)

    Thank you for the replies. Having looked at the virtual option more closely I have discounted it as an option. Was never really something I wanted but our IT insisted I evaluated it as part of the process.
    Regarding the workstations I had decided to go with the hex core E5 1650 option so it is good to hear I am heading down the right road! My reasoning for look at the new T5810 (DDR4 RAM) over the previous T3610 which had the 1650v2 (DDR3 RAM) was based on the fact the the cost difference on the website was only about 70-80 pounds. For that little difference it seemed like a good idea to buy the latest offering for future proofing. I will however get Dell to quote me for the two systems and see what the end result is after adding in 32GB of RAM.
    I will also speak to them about their warranty as I was under the impression that by putting a non approved card in the system that if there were issues that involved the card in anyway then they would not assist. Either way I had decided to go Nvidia after reading up about the Firepro computability. Sadly I don't think I would have budget for the K4200 but the K2200 looks like it might be a decent performer as it is based on the maxwell architecture so I would expect it punch a bit above its weight. Would this act as the bottle neck in such a system or would it be fast enough to balance out a E5 1650 and 32GB RAM?
    If it is only the card itself that will not be supported then I guess this is lesser risk and I could consider a consumer card. If I did go down the GTX route then looking at the price of GTX 770 (ideally I would want the 4GB version as the 2GB could be limiting for the future), there does not seem to be a lot in it between them and the GTX970. I would expect  due to the maxwell architecture that this would offer better performance at a lower power draw so I would expect the be better temps than the previous gen. If so then would this be a better option to go for?
    For drives I will look at putting the media cache onto separate drives (we currently do this with our systems that run local storage), though will probably have to be HDD rather than SDD as I have them spare and fast running out of budget!

  • NIC driver absent on dell T5810

    I have a problem imaging a Dell Precision T5810 that has me stumped. Sequence of events is
    Boot machine off USB
    Confirm Network connectivity
    Select Task Sequence
    Remove USB stick and Reboot
    Machine comes back up and after awhile errors out with error "Unable to read task sequence configuration disk"
    Opening a command prompt and running ipconfig shows that the machine has no NIC present
    Logs show

    I can;t figure out why the NIC is present on first boot but when it reloads winpe the second time to begin the image process it is absent. The WinPE is the same version on both the USB boot stick and the SCCM server

    But the results are always the same.

    I have finally found the issue that was causing DELL T5810 to fail the SCCM Deployment. The reason why was the Network driver from the DELL’s package was a wrong one, meaning, at a certain level of the deployment (Windows PE, maybe second
    or third reboot later), when the package needed to be pushed, the machine lost connectivity get APIPA Address, as a result, the deployment would fail. It was hard to find the solution quickly because there was neither a log error anywhere which would point
    to a missing driver nor an error while windows was online (as a workstation, not a member of the domain). Device manager also didn’t show errors or warnings.
    I have found the right driver, not from DELL, but from Intel which worked fine during my troubleshooting.
    I have then injected the good Driver into the DELL package and we retested a deployment which result in success.

    the exact folder inside the PROWinx64 is:
    PROWinx64\PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS62
    When creating a SCCM package, use only the drivers inside the NDIS62 folder, the other ones dont work.
    what I did, I just injected the NIC drivers inside my T5810 package I had already in my SCCM. Of course, later, redistribute to DPs and retest.

  • MDT 2013 not working with older systems

    We have been using MDT 2012 with no issues on any of our Dell systems. I just upgraded our Test Bed to MDT 2013 along with ADK for Windows 8.1. After upgrading and getting the new WIM files created, it does not work on two of our model systems. It gives
    the message listed below when trying to boot into the WIM. These two systems are Dell Precision Workstations 370 and 380, both 64-bit Pentium 4 machines. It works great on all of our other system models. I checked the Execute Disable and it is enabled, but
    neither model has virtualization. Does not having virtualization and UEFI play a factor? Thanks.

  • Dell Precision Systems Failures

    Environment - SCCM 2012 R2 using MDT 2013 and the Windows 8.1 ADK.
    I have successfully deployed Dell Latitudes and Optiplexs without issue - using MDT Task Sequence and applying driver packages built using the Dell Driver CAB files for Enterprise Client OS Deployment.  However, I have failures with both Precision models
    I have tried to deploy - the M4700 and T3600.  Both the smsts log and dism log indicate that the first driver injected to the offline image successfully but fail when trying to inject the second driver.
    I tried to add the log files here, but ran into a body length issue.

    It's not the driver.  I have manually altered the driver package to exclude what was the second driver and it failed in the same location.
    I tried an earlier CAB driver package for the same system and it failed - in the same location.
    I tried a different model Precision with a different set of drivers and it failed - in the same location (on the second DISM injection).
    Both M4700 and T3600 models are failing on the second DISM driver injection into the offline image, and they both seem to first fail on the second DISM injection with:
    Failed to open the registry root: n/a, key: Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList. [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]

    Error message 06 474 with item category W and M contracts occurs if the

  • For %TaskSequenceID% no longer working in MDT 2013.

    I've used the blogs by Michael Niehaus to get MDT 2010 and MDT 2012 LTI deployment wizard application selection profiles working.
    I'm now running MDT 2013 and when following the instructions here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2012/09/04/revisiting-lti-deployment-wizard-application-selection-profiles.aspx, the MDT Wizard Displays the error: "No task sequences are available (TaskSequences.xml does not exist, is empty, or is inaccessible)."

    Updating the deployment share seems to have resolved the issue.

  • Serious resolution issues with After Effects CC (2014) on Windows 8.1 Pro on Dell Precision M3800 laptop??

    My new company installed Adobe Creative Cloud (There was some annoying Proxy issues at first, because of the seriously tight I.T policies) but we are having some serious resolution issues with After Effects CC 2014 (also have this resolution problem with Adobe Premiere, Media Encoder, Muse) on Windows 8.1 Pro on a Dell Precision M3800 laptop with icons and interface looking too small and hard to see, is there a fix, an update or a work around, can anyone help?
    Any help will be appreciated!

    Hi Todd is there a time-frame for this fix, there is a lot of pressure on me, because I convinced my company to get the Creative Cloud and quite a lot of the CC software is not compatible with the latest Windows 8.1 OS.
    Is there at least a work around, until this big fix comes along?

  • MDT 2012 deploy OS from USB external drive failed - need to unplug and plug it once again

    We are using MDT 2012 and deploying Windows 7 using media (USB external hard drive). We can successfully deploy Windows 7 32 bit using this method but there is a problem with deploying Windows 7 64bit. This problem appears only on HP EliteBook 840. We can
    boot into WinPE 64 bit and can start proper task sequence, all image is applied then after restart, before logon screen appears there is an error saying that cannot find litetouch.vbs script. After clicking ok, I can logon to Windows and there is no usb external
    drive recognized. But when I unplug and plug usb drive once again it is recognized by Windows and can be used. I can see that Windows install some drivers just after plug it again
    I checked BIOS looking for some USB power options - there is no such settings. And 32 bit deployment works ok. So this is not a case. Looks for me like a problem with proper usb drivers for 64 bit. I download all drivers from HP website (driver pack and
    drivers only for USB 3.0). We are using make and model matching in MDT - works ok for all the rest hardware models. Any idea how to troubleshoot it?

    Not sure what's going on here. Is this a USB "Flash" drive or a USB "Hard Drive". There *Is* a distinction.
    I *thought* that MDT would copy itself to the c:\minint\scripts folder to continue installation.
    Next time, when you see this error, Press Shift-F10 to get into a cmd.exe prompt. Can you find litetouch.vbs on any of the drives? Does the USB Drive appear?
    IF in fact, the USB Drive is not appearing after the 1st reboot, then you have a problem. Why did the USB 3.0 driver not install. Check the Driver Installation Logs to verify.

  • Unable to capture image using MDT 2012

    After running my Sysprep and Capture task using MDT 2012, MDT begins to capture the image and makes it all the way to ~94% and then stops and returns several errors. Any idea as to what may be causing this? Below are the errors returned during the capture

    Not sure what's going on here. Possibly a corrupt drive? Or the target drive is full?
    Try running the imagex command manually from a F8 cmd window (in WinPE)

  • Unable to capture images since upgrade to MDT 2013

    I recently updated MDT 2012 to MDT 2013 to enable support for Windows 8.1. Under MDT 2012 I was able to both capture and deploy images without an issue. Since upgrading to MDT 2013 I've had nothing but grief. When I launch my Sysprep and Capture task I am
    returned with the following error:
    Error creating an image of drive D:, rc=2ZTI ERROR -Non-zero return code by ZTIBackup, rc=2Litetouch deployment failed, Return Code = -2147467259 0x80004005
    Failed to run the action: Create WIM.
    The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 00000002; Source: Windows)
    The execution of the group (Capture Image) has failed and the execution has been aborted.
    An action failed.
    Operation aborted (Error: 80004004; Source Windows)
    Failed to run the last action Create WIM.  Execution of task sequence failed.

    Once the machine boots up again I check the BDD log located in C:\Windows\Temp\DeploymentLogs and notice the following error:

    My issue appears to be a permissions problem.  For troubleshooting purposes I've given Everyone full access to \DeploymentShare$ however the problem continues to persist. 
    I'm not sure where to go from here.  Hoping someone can help.

    Additionally, ensure that the share itself is marked R/W access.
    As a test, boot to WinPE and try to create a file, any file on the share.
    However, Lordy86 may have the correct solution :^).

  • Message status "To_Be_Delivered" in MDT !!

    Hi ,
    Our messages are stuck with the status "To Be Delivered" in MDT. Integration engine shows a chequred flag. However FTP adapter fails to process this message(IDOC to file scenario). Any idea how and where to troubleshoot ?
    We went through the applications.log , defaultrace,trc & xi.log with no use. Followed sap notes(761921) and set the trace level to debug for the adapter engine, still no messages seems to be traced about this failure.

    so... if the messaging system can't return anything (instead of returning http 200) the status is to_be_develivered I assume:)
    1. try logging into SapGUI with two users:
    XIAPPLUSER
    XIAFUSER
    to see if <b>they are not blocked</b>
    2. You can check those:

    com.sap.aii.adapterframework.serviceuser.language
    com.sap.aii.adapterframework.serviceuser.name = XIAFUSER

  • What use of having double precision in java.awt.geom?

    Hi,
    I am trying to draw a line using Line2D with this param:
    g2d.draw( new Line2D.Double( 1.1d, 1.5d, 1.9d, 1.5d ) );
    in my own JPanel paint method.
    However, the result is that the panel does not display a line nor a dot at all. Only when i change it to:
    g2d.draw( new Line2D.Double( 1.0d, 1.5d, 2.0d, 1.5d ) );
    that it draws a dot in the panel's first pixel.
    Can someone please guide or tell me why is this so? And what is the purpose of providing a double value for a geom ( such as Rentagle2D, Line2D, etc )?
    The actual case is that I have created a graph with x and y axis. I set the graph to be 400pixel * 400 pixels. And the scale for the graph is 1 million unit * 1 million unit which means a pixel would have contain (1000000/400) units, or 0.004 pixels represent 1 unit. The problem occurs when i try to draw a line that is only 10 unit.(which nothing is draw on the panel). I try to use all 2D geom with double precision, yet i could not get the result that I wanted. Isn't that java 2D will handle the double precision for graphing or drawing?

    have in mind that you always have to fill 1 pixel to see anything as the panel has a 1 pixel grid.
    i guess the thing about double precision is in the contains(...) or crosses(...) methods of the geom.* objects.
    its nothing about drawing. how can you draw finer than the 1 pixel grid.
    even the antialias has to fill more pixel to make you thing the line is smooth. (BTW: antialias makes fonts widt less than 10px look terrible :))

  • MDT deploying boot files to wrong drive

    We are experiencing a intermittent problem when deploying to hardware using media since upgrading to MDT 2013. Periodically when techs attempt to apply a image litetouch boots, runs through the initial steps, gets all the way past applying the image/applying
    unattended, then reboots. The problem is when the machine reboots instead of booting into Windows and finishing configuration we get a black screen that states "An
    operating system wasn't found.  Try removing drives that don't contain an operating system". After going through logs and looking further into this it appears MDT is putting the image on the correct internal drive but from some reason the actual
    boot folder is overwriting MDT's boot folder on our external media. Also the MININT and _SMSTaskSequence files are being put on the external media instead of C: (I'm not sure if that is normal behavioror not).
    Here is my smsts.log if it's any help. If there are any other logs I should include please let me know.

    No we always use USB hard drives. So far the only possible connection I've found is our 1 TB external drives seem to be having trouble. The ones we have that are smaller seem fine. Also even with the 1 TB drives it's not a constant. The drive may do 4-5
    computers no problem, then on number 6 it just breaks. 
    The only thing we changed in our process was the upgrade to MDT2013, everything was fine while we were on 2012. I know flash drives are the preferred method for deployment, and we will make the switch if we have to. We would prefer to stick with the HDD's
    however because it gives us room to keep other boot utilities, tools, and perform data backups as well as image all on one drive.
