Precomp "losing" quality on the parent comp

Hello,
i've noticed an oddity after placing a couple layers in a precomp in that it looks "blurred" and has "jagged" edges on the main comp, but if i open the precomp it looks ok, the same problem happens after i render the output.
The precomped layer is simply two non-transparent 24 bpp PNGs (some rendered text on a black background) that have some transforms applied to the position and rotation, no other effect is present.
When i see it in the main comp one of the blocks shows white jaggies around it (the transform drops one of the blocks and rotates it like a falling billboard), and if i compare the comp windows to the precomp, it's clearly blurred.
i've googled and saw something about collapse transformations, i set it in the main comp for the precomped layer to no avail.
i also tried with color-keying the black BG in the precomp, the result is that in the main comp the image expanded to the left and had some ugly artifacts inside the letters.
these are cropped parts of the workarea, first the comp view with the distortion jaggedness and after that the precomp window(it's hard to see you might need to zoom in):, even then it's clear that the comp is blurred
i've turned off all preview tricks, working at full resolution, no avail...
i used this same precomp on another project (from which i imported it) which uses the same resolution and framerate and i wasn't seeing that issue there

i've checked both layers in the precomp and they're set to high quality, same as the precomp aulity in the comp itself, also disabled opengl completely in preferences and the jaggedness remains.
About the PAR of the png files, haven't checked, they're a random convenient size each one(quite big, 4.18mpx~).
just animating the layer transform setiings in the precomp, here's the captures, comp and precomp:

  • Pre-comps loose Quality when putting them in parent Comps

    Hi there!
    I got quite a problem with my AE project and I really don't know what to do. I already Looked up the forum but didn´t find any useful help till now.
    The Problem I got is that I am working on quite a big project and need to fit precomps into parent comps (most of the times through varios layers)
    This time when I fit a precomp in it´s parent comp it looses quite a lot of quality. If I do this again (putting the hole thing in a new parent comp) it even looses more quality!
    I checked all my compositions and all are set to full quality at 1920/1080. I am using raytraced 3D and fast draft for quick render, but when I RAM preview render my projekt with full quality it still shows big deficits and pixelation.
    Here you got some screen shots, maybe they are helpful:
    I hope someone can help me.
    Thank you a lot in advance!
    PS: Re: Precomp "losing" quality on the parent comp     Already saw that post, but unfortunately it didn´t help me out/couldn´t understand what I have to do.

    Hi there again.
    The problems I got aren´t because of a specific Layer. The problem appears when putting one composition into another parent composition. The precomp I put inside the parent comp looses quality. The settings of both compositions are exactly the same and no draft mode ist selected. I am not zooming around or anything either. There are just 2 3D Objects on a 2D layer (and some other 2D stuff) Here I put now complete screeneshots:
    The pic. above is my precomp. Quality and everything is fine and it looks like it should. Cool. Now when I take this composition and just put it into another composition with exactly the same settings, it should look exatly the same way (no zoom or anything , just drag and drop into another comp):
    As you can see the quality is a lot worse then it should be (the sphere the iPhone etc.). I didnt change a layer or set a keyframe or zoom or anything and the parent comp has the same settings as the precomp. So it should show exactly the same. But for some reason it doesnt.
    Now what I found out is that in the advanced comp settings I can put "preserve comp quality when nesting" so I do that. If I put now the composition into it´s parent comp then this happens:
    Ok first things first: Quality is fine, so the most important problem is solved.
    But what happens doesn´t really make sense for me. Despite the fact that both comps got exactly the same quality/framerate/pixel settings, when I put the precomp into the parent comp it is shown as if the precomp would be 4 times bigger (if I take now the parent comp also with "preserve quality when nested" into another comp the same happens).
    It also messes around with a weird anchorpoint position and the comp "margins" are shown only in the upper left size of the layer (as if the layer would be much smaller then it really is). I dont know why this happens, but at least I can transform my (precomp-)layer normally and fit it into the composition, so that´s fine for me.
    It´s more work when animating, but at least the quality stays the same.
    Maybe someone knows a better solution?
    Thank you already for your answers. I hope this is specific enough...

  • Should a clone copy mirror comp changes made to the parent region?

    Hi
    I've just made a clone copy of a region (song chorus) and I was hoping that if I made a change to the comp of the parent region that this would be mirrored in the copy. But that isn't happening. Is this something that should happen, and if so, can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

    sorry... for misunderstanding
    I assume you were talking about Midi Region Aliases!!!
    are you talking about Audio TakeComp logic 8.0.x (known bugs) feature?
    in the audio take comp feature there are at least 3 or 4 known bugs...
    this is historically bug Guinness Book of Records... there are more than 4 bugs only in the take comp feature i think...
    I just think because simply, I never use take comp when tracking with Logic 8...
    I use only Logic 7 way for this particular function!!!
    So I really don't know...
    I'm sorry
    usually if I need to copy the same comp editing I do the following:
    Bypass all unecessary plugins in the CH strip inserts and i select the region...
    Than I click on the rigth mouse button... scrolling the options to select Export region as Audio file...
    the file will be in the Audio bin already edited!
    I'm not a clone lovers
    I love to touch with my hands the real regions (of my girl friend, of course)
    done!
    Good Luck!

    How to burn an iMovie to DVD without losing quality?  I have iMovie 10.0.5 and iMac 10.9.4 mountain lion. I do not have iDVD. After iMovie goes through the encoding process, quality is horrible. How can I fix this problem? I have tried the apps BURN and DVD Creator for MAC. I need to finish this DVD asap and becoming more and more frustrated. Why would Apple give us iMovie and not provide us an app to burn it to a DVD and / or take away the iDVD?

    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
    To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

    What is important here is that you know the properties of your source file(s), set the project preset to match the properties of those source files, and then export with settings as close as possible to the original. Often you can do this without noticing quality differences in the export.
    I am understanding and defining your issue as you wanting to maintain the quality of the original imported files in the export. If that is the case, the please supply the following, and I will give you a step by step
    a. What are the properties of your source files (including bitrate). Here I am looking for
    video compression
    audio compression
    frame size
    frame rate
    interlaced or progressive
    pixel aspect ratio
    file extension
    A quick way to get that type of information is knowing the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
    2. Based on that information we can set manually a project preset to match those source property.
    3. When we go to export...example Publish+Share/Computer/ and your choice and its preset, we can customize the preset selected
    under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of that preset in order to try for the best possible match between the properties of the
    original file and the properties of the export.
    But, please let us know if you also need help in trimming the original import at the Timeline level prior to export.
    Your mention of Publish+Share suggest that you are working with Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13. What is the computer operating system?
    Thanks.

  • T420 or for the matter all new Thinkpad products losing quality/ Flimsy

    Well once a proud owner of many thinkpads, starting with the first 386 version during my pre primary years, onto the t43 series, to the t60p series, to the t400 an t500 models  and now an owner of a t420. i must say that over the last 12 months the quality in comparison to the other models prior to this one shows as a disgrace to the fall of grace of a once well known quality brand the Thinkpad.
    Let me tell you, within the last 12 months of use i had my ejection mechanism fall out off place an non repairable on the cdrom , i was surprised at this. one of my battery lock in clips have come off, this is just through normal use, to and from work.My keys on the keyboard are getting how shoul i put it not responsive due... it as all come down to a cheap piece of crap for a Thinkpad T series model.
    On another note when i had to upgrade my memory modules, i was dumb founded by the number of screws in comparison to the previous models of the once great T series line. I could also say that having an electronics engineering background. having a look at the circuitry, the Quality control is almost non existant. I noticed NOTICABLE rework on the motherboard, misaligned IC chips, solder balls between the legs. ... Just surprised at the level of **bleep**iness that i have notice a once true quality product degrade to.
    IN ESSENCE I have gone back to my good old T60P bought a SSD hard drive for that. LENOVO THINKPADS once a CHOICE FOR ME. The t420 will most probably be the last that i will get. I look towards Dell Precision series.
    I hope LENOVO turns back and allow quality to be once again the norm for the Thinkpad T series.
    On another note, this is not only myself complaining about this. matter. I work for a well known telecommunications company within Australia. And they have made the shift to Dell Precisions due to the fact of low quality issues with the T series... Unfortunate

    The conventional laptop market isn't growing, so manufacturers are squeezing as much out of the components as possible. Shareholders won't stand for non-growth, so you're stuck with the trend.

  • AE CC2014 will not let me select individual/collective mask points, or boundaries on a pre comp and therefore moves the entire comp or scales (depending on where I've clicked obviously)

    I'm working on a project that requires a similar style to the 'Criminal Minds Suspect Behaviour' titles. I'm precomping photos so that I can do edits in a separate comp but then placing those pre comps into a master composition where I will use the camera and masks to reveal the images in the required sequence. I am having an issue selecting mask points. It was working fine with no issues earlier today, but now I cannot select single or collective points of a mask nor a boundary of one either. What happens when I do try is that it just moves or scales the comp entirely and ultimately the mask is useless as I cannot animate it at all. Hope someone can help! I've reported it as a bug to Adobe but because I'm unaware of the process that causes it I'm worried they won't get back to me. Any help or troubleshooting tips would be amazing! Thank you in advance!

    It sounds like you need to adjust the masks in the nested comps, but you're trying to do it in the main comp.  Not good.  Nothing happens.  Do it in the nested comps.
    And if you're doing that, it also sounds like spending some quality time here will be VERY helpful:

  • Use camera zooms only in nested comps, not parent comp?

    hello
    I recently received some advice on a project where I was having some vector art pixelization problems during camera zooms--I was told that camera zooms should not be made in the main comp, but that instead, they should be made in the precomps (or nested comps) to avoid this pixelization problem. It seems to me that AE should be able to propogate clean, illustrator vector graphics during camera zooms, all the way up to a main comp, through the use of the "continuously rasterize" and "collapse transformation" options.. but perhaps this is not so?
    can anyone elaborate on this issue?
    thanks
    LML

    If vector images are set to continuously rasterize you can scale them or push the camera into them as far as you like with no problems. If certain effects have been applied to your eps or ai files they will be rasterized when imported into AE so they will behave exactly like a raster image. There's nothing you can do about that. Turning CR on or off will have no effect. If CR isn't fixing the pixelization issues then you've applied a layer effect somewhere in the chain that's causing the image to rasterize. Sometimes these problems can be fixed by pre-composing and doing the scaling in the pre-comp (layer effects). Sometimes they can't. Most of the time, if the problem is in the Illustrator file you can fix it by editing the original and removing the layer effects applied in Illustrator.
    You can change the antialiasing quality of vector graphics in the file interpretation options from faster to more accurate. You'll find it under More Options.

  • How do I edit a .mov file in iMovie '09 without losing quality?

    Hi!
    Can anyone tell me how to edit .mov files in iMovie '09 without losing quality?
    I have perfectly fine looking screen capture video from iShowU. It's 1024x768, 30 fps, Animation compression codec. It's a .mov file that looks great played in the QuickTime player. I can't even tell it's a movie -- it just looks like the screen I captured.
    Now, I bring it into iMovie '09, trim the ends, and Export to QuickTime using no compression and the same fps and size. The output quality is noticeably lower than the input quality, which makes no sense to me because I'm telling the export not to compress (and my Preferences are set to "Import HD video as Full-Original Size".
    I just want to trim the ends off a video -- maybe combine a couple files -- but without wrecking the quality of the originals. That really doesn't sound like it should be all that hard, but so far, it's been impossible.
    Any pointers are greatly appreciated!!
    -- gnagent

    I've found the answer. On the File/Import/Movies... dialog, uncheck "Optimize Video" even if you have "Full - Original Size" selected. You don't want any optimizations done, even at original size. Then make sure you are exporting at precisely the same size as the original file, which means that under the Export to Quicktime/Options/Video Size dialog you do NOT want to check "Preserve aspect ratio using:" Just use "Custom" size and set your size to exactly what "Get Info" tells you when you view the file in the Finder.
    Make sure that Video/Settings is set to Compression Type: None, and that you have the Frame Rate exactly what your original was.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Problem with losing quality in exporting FLV

    First I should emphasize that I am new to Adobe's products, and am learning it on the fly as part of a intelligent tutoring system design project. So I apologize for my lack of technical knowledge in advance. Rest assured I have put much effort in attempting to solve this problem on my own and by referencing this forum and other web sources, but sadly with no success.
    FYI, I am using the CS4 Master collection.
    My question pertains to retaining the quality of my video once I export it to .flv format via Media Encoder from Premiere Pro. My main video source is an .flv file that i have imported into my media browser. Initially I ran into a problem with the importing because it did not recognize H264 as having any media, and so I had to convert to Sorenson format to get it to import successfully. But it seems to have imported just fine without any loss of quality in the workspace. So that isn't my main issue but perhaps it is related.
    I am having major issues with losing quality upon export back to .flv format - which is the format I am required to use - the video is being imbedded within a larger program and so it needs to have a smallish file size. For the life of me I cannot figure out any combination of settings that works. If I select same as source then I end up with a video that is surrounded by black borders. This may because the workspace is larger than my imported file. I have attempted to enlarge it to fit the safe margins but it hasn't helped. If I resize my output video to 640 x 480 - which is what I want - I get a shrinked video with black borders. If I crop the input to what I want I just lose quality - but I lose quality either way. I really want to accomplish this without increasing the bit rate (and thus the file size). I have tried just about every setting available and I still lose the quality. Is this just inevitable? Is there a plugin that would help? From what I can it seems that Adobe has more problems dealing with .flv than with other video formats, but I haven't found anything that pertains to this issue specifically.
    Otherwise does anyone know of any other programs that can edit .flv files and offers multiple video & audio tracks?
    Thanks in advance. If anything needs clarification let me know.

    Ah yes I left out that detail. My source video is 640 x 480 also so the output is not an increase in size.
    This is different from my sequence settings. Which is 1440 x 1080 16:9 ratio. Pixel Aspect Ratio is HD anamorphic 1080 (1.333).
    I am assuming that this needs to be changed but I can't figure out how to do that (sequence settings are greyed out). Should I just start a new project?

  • How to proper resize images and videos at runtime without losing quality?

    Hi guys. I need a bit of help here.
    I've built a flash site in which i want to resize a movie to the stage. I do it by keeping the proportion, thus i only resize the width and then i resize the height acordingly to the new width but keeping the proportion.
    The problem is that my film still looks "pixeled".
    I found a website on which the stage resizes dinamically with the movie and the background images without either of them losing quality. Till now i knew that resizing images or videos in flash at authoring or runtime produces pixeled results.
    This is the website: http://kampanjeweb.apt.no/jotun/romforrom/. Can someone tell me how do they do it without losing quality? just make the browser windowed and resize the margins to see the effect.
    Thanks.

    Hello, Venian.
    About the video, you could try setting the flash.media.Video's smoothing property to TRUE. This should keep a quality, but you can do nothing if the video has a poor quality. You need a great video.
    About the images, you you need to redraw the image each time you resize it. To achieve it, use a combination of Bitmap, BitmapData and Matrix classes. Any doubt, just call again. Here is a simple example:
    var scale:Number = .5;
    var highQualitySourceImage:Bitmap = ...your image...;
    var scaleMatrix:Matrix = new Matrix();
         scaleMatrix.scale(scale, scale);
    var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData( scale*highQualitySourceImage.width, scale*highQualitySourceImage.height);
         bitmapData.draw(highQualitySourceImage, scaleMatrix);
    var finalBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bitmapData);
    addChild( finalBitmap );
    Cheers,
    CaioToOn!

    I have a few wedding projects(1-2 hours)I am trying to export at full hd quality,than burn in idvd. After rendering for 8hrs I receive error code that states "file is too big". Please help? compressing tips without losing quality? or any other exporting alternatives?

    Hey Z,
    Thank you for the tip on exporting by media browser (large) from imovie. But of course, if it's not one thing it's another. Now that I figured how to export a large file from imovie, I have an idvd issue. I followed the instructions for burning from idvd and changing the encoding to professional quality and the burn speed to x4, but I am receiving an error that states the following,
    Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window.
    Project:
    - total project duration: 79:04 minutes
    - total project capacity: 4.327 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
    Menus:
    - number of menus in project: 1 menus
    - total menu duration: 0:39 minutes
    - total menu capacity: 37.370 MB
    Movies:
    - total movies duration: 78:25 minutes
    - total movies capacity: 4.291 GB
    I have searched in the idvd forum for similar issues and I am stumped at this point. I have tried deleting the encoding assets and re launching idvd with the changed preferences, and still the same error. I know you mentioned something about free hard drive space available, and I have very little left. 4GB to be exact due to massive hours of non-edited footage. I am not sure if this is why, but I do not recall ever needing free space to burn memory onto a separate dvd. I would be more than happy if I am wrong, and it would be a quick fix. Otherwise, the technical nightmare continues. It's all a learning process and your expertise is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
