See Sun's bug parade:
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4458653.html
They fixed something in 1.3.1_04 that was causing errors similar to yours so you
should probably try moving up to the _04 release.
Also there are some know problems with older JVMs when JSPs get REALLY big through
many custom tags, includes, etc. Breaks some internal 64K limit.. Might be related
to that.

# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.3.1_03-b03 mixed mode)Today I was trouble shooting a jsp page that uses JDBC posted on a TOMCAT server. I was have the same exception as you guys described but found a work around for my program.
I as reading data from my db into the jsp page (into a table and some drop down menus). The error screen would pop up randomly as I accessed the page. If I refreshed page quickly it would cause the error to happen more often it seemed.
The fix was i used the "finally" statement to close every instance of ResultSet and Statement.
Before I use simply:
rs.close();
st.close();
rs = null;
st = null;
I have 2 seperate parts on jsp page where I accessed db. Once I put in the finally it worked. Here is the code I used:
try
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
String sourceURL = new String("jdbc:odbc:D2TEST");
Connection dbconn = DriverManager.getConnection(sourceURL);
st = dbconn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
rs = st.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM CIS_REFERENCE");
while (rs.next())
{ minute = rs.getInt("PERIOD");
onoff = rs.getInt("PONOFF");
finally {
if (rs != null) {
try {
rs.close();
catch (SQLException sqle)
System.out.println(sqle.toString());
if (st != null) {
try {
st.close();
catch (SQLException sqle)
System.out.println(sqle.toString());
Sorry bout the spacing I just cut and paste.
Hope this helps

Hi all,
We have faced this problem in our production system.
Machine is Solaris 8, sparc, Running Java 1.3.1_08 hotspot version.
I searched around quite a bit but no good solution.
Here is the stack trace that I have just before the JVM crashes.
Also, I am new to gdb. I tried to connect to core dump file through gdb but i
do not see any details. The application is running on japanese platform how can
I read the core file?
Regards
Tapan

Solaris HotSpot Virtual Machine Error, Unexpected Signal 11 NEED HELP
Hi all
We are running a thin jsp application for video streaming live event running
on a BEA WebLogic Personalization Server 3.2 on Solaris (streaming servers
are separate and do not affect the server). After putting it in production
we have experienced serious memory problems with our environment. When the
servers are running under heavy load, they eat all available memory until
they finally crash, please see log message below. We can see that the
garbage collection is running but it doesn't seem to keep up with the memory
consumption. The problem is described in a bug report at SUN, but it is
marked as a "no fix" with the reasoning that programming resources are now
allocated to jdk1.4?

We have now upgraded to jdk1.3.1_02 B02 but still have a problem with memory
leaks. We have so far been able to restart the server before memory is
exhausted and has hence not seen the same error message after the upgrade.
The memory is not freed when Weblogic aborts, the SUN server has to be
rebooted to free the memory. We now have to restart our 3 servers aprox.
every 6 hours. The servers are equiped with 2G physical memory each. We have
also tried setting hotspot to -client and setting -XX:MaxPerm.
The HW configuration is as follows:
1 Foundry Server Iron load balancer (with one hot stand by).
3 Sun E420R, 2 x 440MHz CPU, 2GB RAM. Running in a cluster with one apache
and one WLPS instance on each
The SW configuration is as follows:

Solaris 8.

This bug is described in
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4408730.html.
It is also described as a known problem in
http://www.weblogic.com/platforms/sun/index.html.
It has also been described by SUN as a problem arising from multiple nested
try/catch blocks appearing in generated java code from servlets, especially
on WebLogic and Apache.
As SUN has said that they will not fix this bug we are trying to find a
workaround, but have yet found one. We have been looking into changing the
heap size and setting GC options on the JVM, but haven't found the optimal
solution. We would be very interested in experiences with tuning gc

Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred. How to see the reason??
Hi,
I saw there where other questions about this, but I didn't get how to see the differences between the possible causes of this error
I see at the bottom of the following trace that some part of the heap is running over (from space of new generation) is this a correct assumption of the reason for this error?
If this is the reason I'll have to find a way to increase the heapsize. The problem doing this is, that the app is started by a precompiled binary. Is there a way not to pass the heapsize by the -Xmx param but to write it in some VM config file, so it will be used, even when I can't pass params??
Thanks a lot for replies,
Regards

Yes if I am doing this I can see at the top the document partner.
But normally in the 2 bottom Window "Detail for SPL" it does show the
the details the matched term.
But here it does not show me the match terms. It shows only
empty window Detail for SPL".
So the question remains where can I see the matched terms?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I have contacted BEA and they seem to think that there may be a deep recurision in the application's authetication/login/error JSP pages that may be causing this. What is really interesting is that the last thing we see in our logs before the core dump is user authethication. We will see the 1.3.1_03-b03 mixed mode and we will see 1.3.1-b24 mixed mode for the JVM versions. I am wondering if Weblogic or other Web Application Servers use an embedded JVM atleast for Security or authetication that may be the issue. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any information. -
My application encounters the following JVM crash on Solaris box. Is there any one knows what happend?

# The exception above was detected in native code outside the VM
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.3.1_07-b02 mixed mode)We have a customer seeing something almost exactly like this. We're using a somewhat older JVM [Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.3.1_03-b03 mixed mode)]. Our stack trace from the point of failure is exactly the same as jennyw's back to the "at java.awt.Frame.removeNotify(Frame.java:576)". Exactly means that even the cited line numbers match. Our caller of Frame.removeNotify is from inside the Kavachart package so the stack trace diverges at that point.
In looking at other details, it appears we're even both using the ISO8859 locale (based on the .so loaded in both of our library lists). It appears we are using different processors. Our library list cites: /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R/lib/libc_psr.so.1 and jennyw's cites: /usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-80/lib/libc_psr.so.1.
We are running inside of WebLogic Server v5.1 SP11 although the point of failure is deep inside code I'd expect to be pretty unrelated to WebLogic (other than it's a JSP that called one of our JavaBeans that called the KavaChart library that invoked AWT code that is active at the time of crash).
I still need to get full details from our customer about the various Solaris patches they have installed.
Jennyw: Have you found a workaround?
Anyone: Other ideas? Has anyone submitted a similar bug to Sun (or know of one if you didn't submit it)? In Bug ID 4630523, "dred" added a comment claiming a similar failure (to that bug entry) with a stack trace that matches the call stack (not including the line numbers) but the native function in which the failure occurs is different from here. It also seems to be related to 4630523's failure mostly in that it is more repeatable with DBCS locales (unlike here).
Thanks! -
Precompiled JSP not taken in account by Weblogic 10.3.1
Hi
My JSPs are properly precompiled in my ear, and well taken in account by weblogic when I work with my local environment. But if I upload my ear on the Unix server, they're not taken in account anymore. Weblogic compiles them in real time, that causes a display time really long for each page.
The precompiled JSP are present in the folder WEB-INF/classes/jsp_servlet/_jsp , inside the file app-web.war, itself included in the ear.
Once the ear is deployed on the server, I find my precompiled JSP at 2 places :
- <domain>/servers/<server>/tmp/_WL_user/<ear_name>/rdi76c/war/WEB-INF/lib/_wl_cls_gen.jar
then in jsp_servlet/_jsp
- <domain>/servers/<server>/tmp/_WL_user/<ear_name>/m8l8j8/app-web.war
then in WEB-INF\classes\jsp_servlet\_jsp\
At the execution time, Weblogic should be able to find the precompiled JSP at that 2 places. However, it recompiles the JSPs and places them here :
- <domain>/servers/<server>/tmp/_WL_user/<ear_name>/rdi76c/jsp_servlet/_jsp
I have already checked the dates. The dates written in the generated .java files match the system dates of the corresponding JSP files. It could have been an explanation, but it's not.
Do you have any idea ?but encounter version mismatching error... It indicated that it only support 10.3.0... It's hard to tell based on your description, but I am going to guess that you are not selecting the right version of WLS runtime in the new runtime wizard. WLS 10.3.1 is also known as WLS 11gR1. Make sure that you look for it in Oracle rather than BEA category.

Regards,
UmeshHi,
If I create a method via the binding editor in JDev it creates a managed bean method with a void return type as default.
eg.
public void cmdlink_actionListener(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
// Add event code here...
}could it have anything to do with the two OJSPC warnings? jsf-impl.jar should be included in your war file. I haven't seen this warning when OJSPC is compiling.

Thanks,
Karthik.The kinds of issues are usually bugs in the JVM, I would check your 8.1 Service Pack / Operating System combination on this page:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13196_01/platform/suppconfigs/configs81/81_over/overview.html#1146895
Make sure you're using the latest supported version of the JVM available for your platform.
So if you're using 8.1 SP6 on Solaris SPARC, then you could be using Sun Java 2 SDK 1.4.2_11.
You should also open a support request. -
Precompiled JSP Compatibility Problem
I am a developer in the Cross Applications Unlimited group. We are experiencing a problem with precompiled jsps in a ADF web application that we have developed. Any help that you can provide with this problem would be much appreciated. Neither Oracle forums nor the internet have yielded any leads to us so far. Here are the specifics of our problem.
In our application, we precompile our JSPs when the EAR is built. The application was initially developed in JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 and worked without problems when deployed to OAS 10.1.3.2. However, our application server MTR recently shifted to OAS 10.1.3.3. We migrated our workspace and projects to JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 and rebuilt our EAR file in JDeveloper 10.1.3.3. We are getting "500 Internal Server Errors" when this new ear file is deployed to OAS 10.1.3.3. The error does not always manifest when running the application. We can login and navigate to JSPs linked directly from our navigation menu (our first level pages). However, in these first level pages are buttons that navigate to second level pages. The error is being seen whenever we try to access one of these second level pages. Everything else about the application works fine. When we don't precompile our JSPs and deploy, the application works fine.
This is the error we find reported in our application logs...

Can anyone help me in identifying the issue?We are running our application with OC4J server, JDK
1.4.2_07 in a HP UX 11i. The application runs
perfectly fine all through the day till 3:30 PM.
Around 3:30 PM, the application crashes with the
following error in the log.
I would suggest looking it up but I believe that particular signal occurs when there is a pointer problem in C/C++ code.
Which means it isn't a java problem. That really seems likely given that there is a "Native Method" call. Either there is a bug in the C/C++ code or the java code is using it incorrectly.
And the reason of course for it occurring at 3:30 is because you are doing something at 3:30 that you are not doing the rest of the day. -
Runtime stlport4 error: Unexpected Signal : 11
Hi Gurus,
I am using CC 5.5 with stlport4 to build our project. I basically build a jni library which got called from java class. I had no compile and link problem. If do "ldd -r MyLib.so", all symbols are resolved. But at runtime, I got the following error:
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0xEFD7FF84

IvanSun C++ 5.5. comes with STLport as an optional standard library. SInce it is not the default version of the standard library, you must follow these rules when using it:
Every CC command line used to build the entire program must have the option -library=stlport4
Every CC command used to link any part of the program, including shared libraries, must have the option -library=stlport4
If ld is used directly (instead of CC) to link a program or shared library, it must link libstlport.so.1, and not link to libCstd.so.1.
You cannot mix program parts using the default libCstd with program parts using stlport4. The entire program, including shared libraries, must use the same standard library -- either libCstd or stlport.
You can see whether there is any conflict between libCstd and stlport in your program by running the ldd command on every executable program and every shared library. If any of these shows a dependency on libCstd.so.1, you cannot use stlport in other parts of the code.
Unfortunately, it is possible to link libCstd statically, and it's difficult to tell whether that happened if all you have is an a.out or a library. Let's hope that is not the case. The supplier of the third-party components you are using should document whether they used stlport or libCstd. If they used stlport, it needs to be the version that comes with the compiler, not a version they acquired from the stlport web site. Different versions of stlport from the web site are not binary compatibie. The versions we ship with our compilers are compatible with each other.
The remaining issue is order of initialization of shared libraries. If (for example) a C program dlopens a C++ shared library that was not built with the correct dependencies, it is possible that the shared library will try to use stlport objects that haven't been initialized yet. If the main program is a C++ program that has a dependency on stlport , you won't run into that problem. Using ldd to check the dependencies of the main programs and shared libraries will show you if dependencies are inconsistent.
It is also possible for shared libraries to be mutually dependent, so that each library requires the other library to be initialized first. (This is a programming error.) That situation should not be possible with stlport, since it should not have any dependency on any user library. But if user libraries A and B have this circular dependency, it is possible that one of them passes a bad reference to stlport. Let's consider this scenario unlikely for now. The other major issues I outlined should be investigated first.
In particular, find out from the 3rd-party vendor how they built their C++ code. The possible good answers are
1 They used the default libCstd.so.1
2. They used the libstdport.so.1 that came with the compiler.
(You can run ldd to find out these answers.)
In case 1, you cannot use stlport. You must use the default libCstd, and link it dynamically (which is the default).
In case 2, you can use stlport, and you must link it dynamically (which is the default).
Any other answer is very bad news.
