Predictive Analysis 2.0 - 'BW' connect feature ?

Hello folks,
In the latest Predictive Analysis, do we have 'BW' data connect feature ?
BW offline connection or connection via Lumira is fine.
Looking forward to hearing any response. My customer'd like to know this.
Thanks a lot.
JH Yang.

Hi JH Yang,
Thanks for the post.
Yes, the BW Connect (offline) feature should be coming to SAP PA.

  • SAP HANA One and Predictive Analysis Desktop - Time Series Algorithms

I have been working on a Proof-of-Concept project linking the SAP Predictive Analysis Desktop application to the SAP HANA One environment.
I have modeled that data using SAP HANA Studio -- created Analytic views, Hierarchies, etc. -- following the HANA Academy videos.  This has worked very well in order to perform the historical analysis and reporting through the Desktop Application.
However, I cannot get the Predictive Analysis algorithms -- specifically the Time Series algorithms -- to work appropriately using the Desktop tool. It always errors out and points to the IndexTrace for more information, but it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.  The HANA Academy only has videos on Time Series Algorithms using SQL statements which will not work for my user community since they will have to constantly tweak the data and algorithm configuration.
In my experience so far with Predictive Analysis desktop and the Predictive Algorithms, there is a drastic difference between working with Local .CSV / Excel files and connecting to a HANA instance.  The configuration options for using the Time Series Algorithms are different depending upon the data source, which seems to be causing the issue.  For instance, when working with a local file, the Triple Exponential Smoothing configuration allows for the specification of which Date field to use for the calculation.  Once the data source is switched to HANA, it no longer allows for the Date field to be specified.  Using the exact same data set, the Algorithm using the local file works but the HANA one fails.
From my research thus far, everyone seems to be using PA for local files or running the Predictive Algorithms directly in HANA using SQL.  I can not find much of anything useful related to combing PA Desktop to HANA.
Does anyone have any experience utilizing the Time Series Algorithms in PA Desktop with a HANA instance?   Is there any documentation of how to structure the data in HANA so that it can be properly utilized in PA desktop?
    HANA Info:
    HANA One Version: Rev 52.1
    HANA Version: 1.00.66.382664
    Predictive Analysis Desktop Info:
    Version: 1.0.11
    Build: 708
    Thanks in advance --

    Hi,
If you use CSV or XLS data source you will be using Native Algorithm or R
    Algorithm in SAP Predictive Analysis.
When you connect HANA, SAP Predictive Analysis uses PAL Algorithm which runs
    on HANA server.
Coming to your question regarding difference,
In SAP PA Native Algorithm, we could provide the Data variable, Algorithm
picks the seasonal information from the Data column. Both R and SAP HANA PAL
does not support Date Column. We need configure seasonal information in
    Algorithm properties.
    R Properties
    1) Period : you need to mention the periodicity of the Data
    Monthly : (12)
    Quarter : (4)
Custom : you can use it for week or Daily or hourly.
    2) Start Year: need to mention Start year.
Start year is not used by algorithm for calculating Time series, but it helps
PA to generate Visualization ( Time series chart) by simulating year and
    periodicity information.
    3) Starting Period:
if your data is Quarterly and you have data recordings from Q2, mention 2 in
    start period.
    Example.
If the data periodicity is Monthy and my data starts from Feb 1979, we need to provide following information,
    Period: 12
    Start year: 1979
    start Period: 2
PAL Properties. : Same as properties defined in R.
    Thanks

    Our Reqirement:
Now we need to Build a Predictive analysis report around this data as follows:
    1) The report should show the predictive analysis of liquid consumption by month wise, for each machine level.
    Our query:
    1) For this requirement what is the predictive analysis algorithm (function) we should use ?
    2) What is the implementation procedure on the respective algorithm.
How can we build Types, input Tables ?
How can we build Parameters, how can we determine the Alpha value etc , for our requirement?
Our research and queries on the same.
WE went through a video (HANA Academy - Key Concepts of the Predictive Analysis Library - YouTube)on Single Smooth Algorithm, in that we query on Result.
The  input was given as Calendar Id and Sales Amout, where Calendar Id starts from 0 – 23 , what is meant by this Calendar Id ?
And also the result is showing Calendar Id from 2-24 , why it is not considering Calendar 0 and 1
How can we say that the result is predictive and on what basis (like month ,year , date etc).
    Thanks and Regards,

  • How to add a new universe in population for Predictive Analysis

Hi all members I am working on BOXI R2, SP2 I have to ask that, How to add a new universe in population for "Predictive Analysis". Currently i can only view universe of "Direct Customers and Direct Products"
Any member please help me hereRegards Izhar

    Hi Anne,
It really depends on how your portal is set up. And there are 101 ways this could have been done.
I've used the Home Page Framework as an easy to define and extend framework to show applications. I've used it both for ESS and MSS, Using the HPF requires that an application has an iView in the portal.
The main point to be made here is that this is not a Web Dynpro ABAP specific question - but rather one about MSS portal implementation - you would probably be better posting a question in either one of the ESS/MSS or Portal forums.
As it is not a WDA specific question, I'd ask that you kindly close this thread and reopen in another forum.
Thanks for your understanding, it would be nice to be able to answer all questions in all forums (perhaps with some sort of tagging system) but currently forum rules are that questions must be specific to the forum posted.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Can't use Wi-Fi Connect feature

Verizon has been offering free Wi-Fi on the Boingo network to people who sign up for 25/25 FiOS service, which involves downloading software called "Wi-Fi Connect" to your laptop. When you're within range of a network (say, at a Starbucks or an airport), a pop-up is supposed to appear so you can enter your username and password and get access to the network. That's the theory. In fact, it's yet to work for me -- even though I've tried it at six different places where XP confirms that networks are coming in loud and clear. (I can access the sign-in pages for Boingo.) Talking to several Verizon techs has yielded nothing other than a suggestion to uninstall and reinstall the program, which I've done. If there was a problem with the download, it continues to be a problem after a second attempt. Has anyone else run into this issue, or managed to use the Wi-Fi Connect feature successfully?

Hi Kent, sorry you're having trouble with your wi-fi connect. Take a look at this website:   http://www.verizon.net/central/portlets/broadbandWiFi/hotSpotSearch.jsp
It gives a list of all the Verizon wi-fi hot spots. The feature will only work with those listed. So even if XP shows several connections available, it may not be one that Verizon is able to use.  There's 3 ways to view available hotspots:
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSInternet/Networking/Setup/Wi-Fi/124660.htm.
    Hope this helps.

  • Nothing displays on Predictive part in SAP Predictive Analysis

    Hi,
Earlier, I created a predictive analysis using R-K Means algorithm, and the result was displayed a week ago and saved it. I opened it several times, trying to beautify the same. But today when I opened it, nothing is seen and also I am unable to add analysis as well. I am using SAP Predictive Analysis version 1.16.0.
Please help me how to resolve the issue.

Hi Anita, in case this has not be resolved, i just had this issue this morning.
I was unable to add or see any Analysis in Predict Tab.
It seems that if you supress your preference settings
    (in C:\Users\yourName\.sapvi\predictive_preferences)
including links to all of your documents, and "repairing" Predictive Analysis by Re-installing it, it works again .
It also seem, after reimporting the original issue document, it is blasted, so you'll have to redo it from scratch.
Hope it will work for you, notice me if it does !

  • Using Multiple Linear Regression from SAP Predictive Analysis within S&OP

How could I go about using a model exported from SAP Predictive Analysis, say a multiple linear regression model, as a stored procedure in HANA from within S&OP?

    Hi Kevin,
You cannot use a model exported from SAP Predictive Analysis in S&OP.  S&OP uses the same PAL libraries from HANA for Statistical Forecasting. We enable a few statistical forecasting methods from PAL like exponential smoothing from S&OP.
    Thanks,

  • Please Provide a Key for SAP Predictive Analysis 1.15 32-bit

please provide a needed a key for SAP Predictive Analysis 1.15 32-bit to be used in University Lab computers.

    Hi Ye,
I am afraid but the only way today is to delete your document without PA / Lumira.
By default, local files are stored at :
    User/Documents/SAP Lumira Documents
In this folder you'll see the list of all the documents you have created with SAP Lumira or SAP PA.
Delete the document that you don't want anymore and (re)start SAP PA.
The delete functionnality from the desktop tool is an idea accepted by the Labs (Delete Files in Lumira Desktop : View Idea), but not implemented yet.
    Hope it helps,
    Edouard

  • Is the SAP HANA Predictive Analysis Library used within UDF?

    Hello Everyone,
I am an intern at SAP Belfast currently looking at UDF and DDF, and I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me?
Is the HANA Predictive Analysis Library (PAL) used within UDF? I know that UDF uses regression analysis, and I know that the PAL has functionality for regression analysis, but are they used together? and if so, which algorithm within PAL exactly is used?
I know that the UDF is an Application Function Library. How many of these Application Function Libraries are there within HANA, as I have only come across the AFL which contains the Predictive Analysis Library?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Claire Burn

    Hi Anu,
First double check your own heart. If you really have the passion, then go back to SAP and do what ever you want to do. You will definitely succeed. However if your motivation is primarily influenced by other than (your love for subject), then the question is how far and how long you will be able to stay before those thoughts come back and push you to switch to something else. The key is where your heart is. Only you can help yourself.Good luck.

  • Buisness scenario for Predictive Analysis

    Hi All,
I am new to SAP Predictive Analysis. I have gone through all the algorithms present in predictive analysis client tool about when should they be used.
Now I planned to try implementing it on some business scenario.
But the problem I am facing is I am not getting any proper data suitable for PA. I am trying to take BW data into excel which will act as my data source.
Can anyone suggest me what data I should pick up from BW or if possible provide me with some sample data.
    Thanks and Regards
    Mithilesh Prasad

    Hi,
You can also found some datasets on SAP Partner Edge website with the Workbook: SAP Advanced Analytics (SAP PartnerEdge).
If you want to find more dataset,  I suggest you to download datasets from UCI Machine Learning Repository to build examples. (UCI Machine Learning Repository). You can start with the dataset Statlog (German Credit Data) with a neural network or a decision tree.

  • Need for predictive analysis?

Folks, I have this massive 700,000 sq. ft. facility we need to deploy wireless to using Cisco access points inside the building and also outdoors.
Do you see any need to hire a contractor to do predictive analysis on this?
I mean, I will pay somebody to do the site survey once the building is in place, but I am wondering if typically pay the contractor to execute the predictive analysis instead of just waiting for the real site survey.

A "Predictive Analysis" is not going to guarantee anything. You are better off to wait until the building is build and you have stuff in there befire you hire a company to perform a site survey. Just my thought. An office, might be easier to predict, but not a manufacturing or warehouse facility.

  • InfiniteInsight Vs Predictive Analysis

    Hi SCN,
What is the main difference between II and PA ??
What is the product history of SAP Predictive Analysis ??
    With regards
    Sateesh

    Hi Sateesh,
For a overview of II you can refer to Henry Bank's excellent blog post:
    http://scn.sap.com/community/predictive-analysis/blog/2014/03/11/sap-infinite-insight--introduction-and-overview
Also, to understand how II and PA play together, please refer to our current roadmap:
    https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001160102012E.pdf
In short, the main difference between PA and II is that II has a limited set of highly automated algorithms and is targeted towards business users while PA has a broad set of algorithms available with a wide range of configuration option to allow custom modeling. PA is targeted more towards experienced Business Analysts and Data Scientists. Both solutions work together with SAP HANA while the integration of PA is - due to historic reasons - still a bit tighter than for II.
    I hope this helps!
    Best regards,
    David
