PREEMPTIVE_OS_GETPROCADDRESS SQL database restoration hangs
Hi,
We are using SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 in our production environment and Litespeed tool for SQL database backup.
Today we are facing an issue in database restoration. while the database restore is 100% done, it hungs and the database in the restoring status itself. We checked the wait-type and found out "PREEMPTIVE_OS_GETPROCADDRESS" for Query type xp_restore_database.
It was working fine till yesterday and today suddenly we got this error. We restarted the restore job and again we are facing the same issue.
Can you please help on this.
Hello,
Try the workaround posted on the following resource:
http://commweb-ps3.us.dell.com/techcenter/data-protection/f/4786/p/19555044/20552862.aspx
This error has been documented on other third-party backup tools. Please read the following post and the comments:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/psssql/archive/2010/07/21/why-does-preemptive-os-getprocaddress-show-a-large-accumulation.aspx
Hope this helps.

Can i restore System DB from,
1. one edition to another edition and voice versa
2. from 2005 to 2008 or 2008 r2 or 2012 or 2014
2. 32bit to 64bit editions and voice versaIf you have an instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition and an instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard edition.
If you have a database running on a (SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition-Enterprise Edition) that has no enterprise features and take a backup of that database,
you can restore it to a SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard edition instance.
If you have a database that has enterprise features (data compression, transparent data encryption, partitioning, change data capture) and try to restore it to an
SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition instance will fail.
https://dotnetstories.wordpress.com/2012/06/20/restoring-a-database-from-sql-server-enterprise-edition-to-any-other-edition-of-sql-server/
Also important to remember if build is different even then restore can fail
The structure and contents of systemdb can change with every service pack, cumulative update or hotfix. Microsoft assumes that it has control over systemdb and
does not document the changes fixes make to them, unless it is particularly relevant to the fix. You need to make certain you restore an systemdb with exactly the same fix level as the target server.
Example, the "SQL Server Build" is 8.00.192, while the "Backup Build" is 8.00.176. Because the two builds are different, the restore operation
is not allowed and error message 3168 occurs.
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/264474?wa=wsignin1.0
2. You cannot restore a system database from one version of SQL to another again structure and contents of systemdb can change with every version.
3. Yes, you can move SQL Server data back and forth between x64, x86, and IA64 architectures. The data and log files themselves do not store anything that indicates
the architecture and work the same on either 32-bit or 64-bit. The same applies to the backup files. Given those facts it becomes clear that we can easily move data between architectures.

How to restore sql database in Private Azure Cloud subscription?
I want to restore my database bacpac file
into Private
cloud Azure Subscription but I do not get any option in Azure portal :(
Is there any way to do this?
questions I asked here at stackoverflow
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28847844/how-to-restore-sql-database-in-private-azure-cloud-subscriptionHi itsashuthinks,
Currently for private cloud Azure there is no Import/Export Service to import your BACPAC file into SQL Database.
Because of this you will need to use client tools.
The process to do this is the following.
Open SSMS and connect to your cloud server.
Right click on "Databases" under your server in object explorer and select import data-tier application.
Follow the import wizard instructions to start the import.
Learn more about Data-tier applications and migrations here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210546.aspx
Hope this helps! -

SAP failed to start after database restore
SAP Version: SAP R/3 Enterprise
Database: MSSQL Server 2000
OS: Windows
We had performed a database restore from the backup which was taken before the system rebuilt. The SAP failed to bring up as the dispatcher stopped due to the work processes died. After the database restore, we had run the SAP Tools for MSSQL Server but still did not manage to bring up the system. Please find below the logs for the developer trace and the dev_w0.

I've managed to bring up the SAP now after changing some parameters
in the instance profile that are pointing to D:\. It's now up and
running, but the dispatcher is in yellow colour. The status
is "Running, Message Server connection ok, Dialog Queue time: 0.00 sec,
J2EE status info unavailable". I did not select Java during the
installation. Only ABAP was selected.
I am able to login to the R/3 system now. I notice that there are some
parameters in the instance profile are related to the Java like
rdisp/j2ee_start, login/accept_sso2_ticket and etc. Is it possible that
database backup that I used to restore was from a ABAP + JAVA system?
Please see below for the dev_disp

Steps to migrate SQL Database to Windows/Oracle
hi
We have an SQL database in our client network and client wants to migrate it to Windows/Oracle. Currently they have multiple databases on the same SQL server.
So I am curious to know if oracle also allows the same in Windows.
I read that we can indeed install one oracle home and use DBCA to create multiple oracle databases on the same host. Any pointers to any documents relevant? I also want to understood this setup and what it means for performance, backup/restore/recovery, patching/upgrade etc.
Request your valuable inputs on this topic please.

As you said you are an Oracle dba so you should know that within one Oracle home, we can create as many database as we want based on the hardware specs of that machine, though its not a good idea. You can create multiple database definitely under one home on Windows as well.

Error while migrate my primavera sql database to oracle database
I have used the migrate batch file to migrate my old database "Primavera V 6.0 SQL" to new database "Primavera V 8.2 Oracle"
the process in my labtop is OK
but in my PC the process hanged on "Creat remaining database objects (e.g. constraints and indexes) " Step
with this error
"Error in Run SQL Script orppm_ins_aux.sql: DatabaseToolException (ORA-02298: cannot validate (ADMUSER.FK_RSRCRATE_RSRC) - Perant keys not found ) "
any help fixing this erroruser11108903 wrote:
Hi,
I used the migration tool to migrate a Primavera 6.2 SQL database to Oracle 11G DB. The migration tool runned successfully and I am able to login to the database using P6.2 client with no problem; however when attemptiong to update the license on the now Oracle database using the privuser account I get the following error "License could not be loaded because of error: List index out of bounds (247). Please make sure that you are using a privileged database login" the error comes up before I can browse to the location of licesne.txt file. Same procedure on a "native" Oracle P6.2 database works perfectly with no problem. Has any one run into this problem before? any help will be appreciated.
Best Reagrds,I have not seen that specifically but it appears that not all of the grants were correctly applied.
I would suggest running the schema validation tool which can be found on the knowledgebase as Solution ID: prim75459 as this will tell you what is missing/invalid.
Once you know that, you can pull the neccesary grants from the create scripts located in the cd1\install\database\scripts folder. -
we formatted Database server and restored all the databases from the backup. but the sharepoint site is giving below error when i access the home page.
we have 3 application servers in that two are working fine, but only one server getting the below error.
SQL database login for 'SharePoint_Config_2010' on instance 'db server' failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Login failed for user 'domain\user'.
could you help what is the issue?Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to access sharepoint site with one application server.
It was due to the MOM/SCOM Agent that has a SharePoint management pack installed, the agents Windows Service runs as ‘Local System’ and thus causes this.
The workaround is to either kill the SCOM agent service, or set it to run as a dedicated service account.
In addtion, I recommend to add the logon account of the SharePoint Timer service as a user of the SharePoint_Config database. Give role membership to the account db_owner.
You also need to add the SharePoint accounts back into sql server.

Yesterday I was able to connect Azure SQL Database - Today I am not
Hello Everyone,
I have problem with establishing connection with Azure SQL Database. I have read many articles here, tried some solutions but none worked.
0. On last Friday everything worked well - today it does not.
1. I added my public IP Address in Azure Management Portal earlier.
2. I tried different types of login-ways: login@nameserver, I used numeric addresses instead of server names, I set TCP connection manually, added encryption in one case either, tried do establish connection with particular database
3. Firewall does not block 1433 out connection
4. My IP address is static
5. I have no error message displayed using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio - it just hangs.. - no response at all
6. I cannot ping the machine but its name is resolved correctly - maybe it does not respond using echo reply on purpose
7. Status of my database is Active - I am able to connect it and manage via browser and management portal at the moment
8. When I am trying to connect database via Visual Studio - it hangs.. - VS must be stopped manually via task manager
9. My local CloudService has problem with connection to the db either
10. Currently I am not able to deploy my CloudService because when I am trying to Publish it - VS hangs as soon as first Publish dialog window appears. Looks that I am able to deploy cloud service via Management portal only.
I am still trying to dive into the problem but at this moment I would be grateful for any clues.
Regards,Hi Mekh, hi everyone
PROBLEM SOLVED.
Yestarday I updated Azure Firewall rule and database-level firewall rules (master, my_database). I added special input / output protocols (IP, TCP, UDP) rules to my COMODO firewall (MSSMS could send anything and receive anything using IP, TCP and UDP). Status
of my computer -> database connection was set to ESTABLISHED in netstat output but MSSMS was still unavailable (no response at all - no error message).
I DECIDED TO UNINSTALL COMODO AT ALL and then if it does not work - reinstall local SQL Server, MSSMS and finally Visual Studio. When Comodo was gone - problem was gone either. Now I have connection with my database using MSSMS and I do not have to reinstall
anything more.

Migrating from Azure SQL Database to SQL Server VM
I'm looking for steps/documentation to migrate a database from Azure SQL Database to SQL Server VM in the cloud. I want to make an app whose data is initially hosted in the former. Due to a few reasons, I might have to migrate to SQL Server VM. I'd
like to design the app such that ideally there is no downtime. Looking for guidance...You can create bacpac file from Azure SQL database and Restore this bacpac file into SQL Server VM or any other place.

ORA-12560: TNS Protocol adapter error after full database restore.
Good afternoon,
Following the steps given in page 9-32 of the 2 Day DBA document, after doing a full database restore, the home page shows:

DataBase restore without manual backup
I using a mobile service with the database. After the re-publishing services from the project visual studio, all data in table has been cleared. Data recovery mechanisms are not active (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/jj650016.aspx). Is there
anyway possible to recover the data?Hi,
Which Edition Database do you have ?
If you have Web or Business Edition databases, you have to create your own backup strategy.
Microsoft Azure SQL Database has built-in backups to support self-service Point in Time Restore and Geo-Restore for Basic, Standard, and Premium service tiers.
