Prefer Bridge to Open in 32 bit CS5

Can Bridge be set to preferentially open files in 32 bit CS5?
Bridge CS5, when it doesn't crash (which seems more frequent than even CS4) opens images in 64 bit CS5 by default.
Most plug-ins are 32 bit so it would seem user-hostile for Adobe to lock down Bridge, which remains as randomly unstable as prior versions, so that images only open in 64 bit CS5 unless the 32 bit version is already opened.
If one uses the 32 bit version of CS5 preferentially it is pointless to have Bridge load automatically when the computer boots. If a Photoshop process is single threaded, which most still seem to be, the 64 bit version will not improve performance for those tasks no matter how much RAM is in the computer, something Adobe seems to be obfuscating but which objective tests demonstrate.

Bridge is a 32 bit program.  Photoshop can run in 64 or 32 bit mode.
If you want to open images in 32 bit PS you can change the default in file type associations of Bridge.  You have to use browse and then navigate to the 32 bit version of PS and select.
Not a computer expert but if a 32 bit OS can only access 3.3 gig or RAM then I would assume the 32 bit PS would be the same.  This can be a problem if one uses some of the advanced features or handles large files.

  • After CS6beta install, how to I tell CS5 bridge to open images in Photoshop CS5?

I am not ready to do all of my work in CS6 now, I am just trying to learn the interface.  But now I cannot opening anything through bridge or windows explorer using Photoshop CS5 at all.  The only way that I can open any image file in CS5 is to do it directly from Photoshop in the file open menu.  How can I set Bridge CS5 to at least have Photoshop CS5 as an option, if not the default?

Open Photoshop CS5, and launch Bridge from there (Ctrl Alt o) That will open Bridge CS5, and load images into Photoshop CS5.

I cannot get Bridge to open in my new CS5 Suite - I get the message that "the operation could not be completed."  Photoshop comes up fine, but no Bridge.  I have a MacBook Pro.  Thanks.

I am having the same issue.

I do have Bridge CS3 that came with my PS Elements, & that works. Do not have any Norton, or other software running.

  • C.C Bridge not opening.

    Hi Folks.
I purchased and downloaded Creative Cloud and several other programmes,  The download seemed to work but Bridge will not open. It seemes to be listed in the Adobe files but will not open.  When I did eventially get bridge to open it was the Cs5 version not CC. How can I solve the problem?
    Yours.

Can you try resetting the preferences of Bridge.
Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears.
Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.

  • Why did my CS5.1 quit opening in 32-bit mode even with the box checked to open that way?

My main plug-in will not work with Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit mode.  It was working fine for awhile, but now it won't.  I took my computer to the Apple store for them to look at it.  They said that even though we are telling it to open in 32, the program is ignoring that command and opening in 64 bit, thereby causing my plug-in not to work.  How can I fix this?

  • How do I get CS5 Bridge to open instead of CS3?

When I upgraded Photoshop to CS5 I had to do it by upgrading my CS2 version because my CS3 version was part of the creative suite package.  When I open Bridge, I don't get the CS5 version, I get the CS3 version and the two are definitely different.  I like the Output features in the CS5 version since I use it at work, but at home, I don't know how to get the CS5 Bridge to open and, of course, Bridge doesn't show up as a stand alone program in the Program listings.  What to do?  Should I try reinstalling CS5?

  • Photos open as 32 bit  exposures in Photoshop CS5

I am looking for help on what is probably a simple issue. I have purchased a grunty new 64 bit computor and upgraded to Photoshop CS5, loaded the 64 bit version, however my photos will only open as 32 bit exposures with the message at bottom left of the screen "Exposure works in 32 bit only". As a result many of the menu functions (e.g. crop tool) are not accessible. Accessing the drop down menu arrow (bottom left) and moving from 32 bit exposure to another setting does not help. Could anyone suggest the solution please? Thanks, from Belinda.

If it says that you are definitely NOT looking at a 32 bit image.
There's info in the title bar or tab for the document that tells you the number of bits/channel.  Look for a number in there - 8 or 16.  That's the actual bit depth of your document.

  • Photoshop: "Open in 32-bit mode" not working on OS X/CS5

i have done all of the following and still it open in 64 bit mode. what to do? i need 32bit mode.
Select the Adobe Photoshop CS5 application file, installed by default in the Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder.
Choose File > Get Info, and select Open in 32 Bit Mode. (Deselect this option to run Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit mode)

Is this a Mac?  THere may not be a 32 bit version.

  • CS5 "open in 32 bit mode" has disappeared.

I have Photoshop CS5 running on a Mac Pro OSX10.6 Snow Leopard.
Some plugins do not run in 64 bit so it has been my routine to switch to 32 bit for apps like Noiseware.
This is done by right clicking the CS5 application icon in the Finder and selecting the "open in 32 bit mode" checkbox, then relaunching Photoshop.
This worked fine until today when the "open in 32 bit mode" checkbox disappeared!
Adobe Support were unable to crack it and it's been escalated......
In the meantime, has anyone else come across this weirdness and /or is able to offer a sloution?

  • How do set image files to open in 32-bit version of PS instead of 64-bit?

I recently got a new laptop with windows 8, it is horrible.  Aside from that I was able to install my CS5 , I pinned my 32 bit to the task bar but for some reason whenever I am in bridge and want to open an image (s)  it goes to open the 64 bit photoshop.  Is there a way to stop this?

I would start with making sure your video driver is up to date:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html#UpdateDriver
That would cause general instability like you're seeing.
I'd also clear your prefs to be safe: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html#Preferences
Are you using and 3rd party plug-ins?

  • Photos Open in 64 bit version rather than 32

I installed CS5 yesterday and have both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions on my computer.  I copied my plug-ins and they are located in the 32 bit version, so I prefer to have my photos open in that version of CS5.  My problem is that if I have a photo that I want to open from my "Picture" folder it automatically opens in the 64 bit version.  I am not given the option of opening in the 32 bit version.  I know that I can open it from Bridge or Photoshop; however, sometimes I just want to be able to click on the photo and open it in CS5.  Can you help me??

Yes, open Bridge and go to edit/preferences/file type associations.
Scroll down the list and change the default to the x86 version
of PS.  You will have to browse to the bridge.exe
in the 32 bit version and click on it.
    Hope this helps

  • How can I open a movie in CS5?

I'm trying to make an animated gif.
I've tried several ways, but with no results.
If I drag the .mov file to the CS5 app, I get the message:  "Could not complete your request because Photoshopdoes not recognize this type of file."
If I try to open from CS5, it does not "see" it as a readable file it can open.
If I try to open from Bridge, it does not list CS5 as an app that will open it.
    Using 10.7.4, 2x2.66 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon, with 27GB of DDR3.
Repaired permissions prior to all this.
    Any ideas out there?

I discovered that I had to have CS5 open in 32 bit, instead of 64 bit.  Only then would it open the file, and only by importing it this way:  Import>Video Frames to Layers...    It seems as thought Adobe has changed some things, as it used to be possible to open the file directly by loading it into PS.  Also, the Animation window no longer has the "Timeline" tab.  Not sure what that change was about, but it would be nice to have it.  Regardless, I was able to open the file and get to work.  Finally.  Whew!

  • Why does CC open in 32 bit in my 64 bit OS???

This is nuts. Photoshop CC opens as a 32 bit program in my Windows Pro 64 bit system. No wonder I have been having so much trouble. How do I get CC 64 bit? FWIW I also have CS5 64 bit installed--and it open as 64 bit...
    TIA

Frequent hangs and crashes. Nik color effex takes about 5 minutes to apply an effect in CC, some seconds in CS5, and almost always crashes CC, unless I restart and apply immediately. Often camera raw files will not open in CC unless I restart.
I do not have these problems in CS5 64 bit. However if I open a file in CS5 bridge without PSCS5 open, it will boot into CS5 32 bit, and then I have similar problems.

CC bridge hangs opening folders, I am using Win 7 64 bit.
At this point I am using Bridge CS5 to browse folders, that works flawlessly.

  • Running 64 Bit and 32 bit CS5 simultaneously?

I am delighted with my preliminary tests on CS5. However, one problem is that all my plugins (and Photoshop's own Lighting Effects) have disappeared. The solution is of course to run in 32 bit. To have close to close PS, go into Info to change its startup setting and then restart, and then repeat the whole process over again when I am finished with my plugin, is very tedious. So to make this easier I duplicated just the PS App file inside the CS5 directory and set the copy to run in 32 bit. So it is quick and easy to start whichever 64 or 32 bit PS I want without having to open Info and change the startup setting each time.
I have discovered, somewhat to my surprise, that I can run the two at the same time, apparently without conflict. This means I can simply open 32 bit when needed for a plugin and move the layer I am filtering back and forth via the clipboard. It's not ideal but it will do for now.
    So two questions:
    1) When I open the 32 bit version (the copy I made from the original installed app) I get a message "The application has been moved, and its path has changed. To update the product configuration, click Update." If I accept this and click update then the next time I try to run the original version I get the same message and have to update again to restore it. However if I just ignore the message each time the 32 bit version opens and don't update it seems to run fine with all my preferences and settings intact. Can anyone tell me what the implications of this message are and whether I can safely ignore it?
    2) Am I courting disaster anyway running 64 and 32 bit side by side like this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    David Mac

    David,
Essentially there is only one application and when you create multiple copies still then it point to one single binary , the location of which gets stored in a particular file.
Now when you launch the other Copy then the new location gets updated in that file. And again when you open original then also the location gets updated.
So it is advisable not to do so , but if you face any issues just remove the other copy and update the location with just one app.
