Preferences /core audio / recording delay

How many samples should this be set at?
Moreover, if it is not set right or needs reset, how can I set it?

Here's an explanation by Sampleconstruct and others:

i have to set the audio reocding delay 2550 ......otherwise the the audio is coming front ....
so i set audio recoding delay 2550 samples but
At the final export ( export all tracks ( Command + shift + E ) ......all other waves which from Audio units are ok but .......
that motif wave which i record already using 2550 samples .........is not in proper position it just delayed .....i dont know why its happens ........if  i set 0 delay it just come front and starts before the bar .......... i dont know why its happens
i need to know the anser urgent please help
( i uninstalled my avid driver ( 003 Digi Rack ) twise but there is no use

    thank you

I'm having the same problem. After figuring out the negative recording delay number that's accurate (which logic's manual says you should rarely ever have to adjust from zero) it worked but I had to adjust it for different sessions by the same process. Very time consuming. Is this a (completely unacceptable) bug?! Will there be a fix coming soon? I keep reading about people having this problem. I could have sworn the 80's were over...

  • Audio recording delay solution

Just remove the plugin like adaptive limiter and waves
that cause the problem in all tracks export .......
    It works for me

  • Playing keyboard hard crashes logic / audio recording delay

    Hi all,
Would appreciate some help with some very odd behaviour.
I have a Yamaha S90ES hooked up which works fine via midi EXCEPT when I hit the keys really hard, no sound comes out at all. The transport display doesn't show a midi note, just 1 0 or something (aftertouch values? maybe, not sure). Then after you bash away for a bit Logic crashes (report includes EXCBADACCESS and KERN_INVALID-ADDRESS).
Even weirder, when I bash F#2-C3 really hard no note is heard but the screen set changes, F#2 being screen set 1, G2 being 2 etc. Any ideas?
Also - this is probably a separate problem, but is driving me equally crazy. When I record audio (e.g midi tracks from the S90ES) they end up about 4000 counts (looking in sample editor) behind the beat. No clue why.
    I have a dual G5, 1Gb of ram, Logic 7 and a Presonus Firebox.
Would really appreciate any help with these problems, they're doing my nut in!

  • Audio recording, is delayed?

Hi i just pluged my guitar to my M-Audio hardware, but when i want to record i GB, the sound from the guitar is coming two or three seconds after... Help anyone!?

Seems a very long delay: first thing to try -
In GarageBand Preferences, select 'Audio/MIDI', then under 'Optimize for' select the radio button for 'Mimimum delay when playing instruments live'.
There may be something you can adjust within the M-Audio, but you'll have to look in the manual for that.

  • System Overload/Core Audio Error Message when recording/playback

Well ive been experience this problem for a while now but ive read up on it and done some troubleshooting and think i may have found a solution.
Well what happens is ill be recording say one track or 2 tracks in mono or stereo or playing back about 3 or 4 tracks and logic will stop everything and give me an error message which either says system overload or core audio overload or something. Well i figured i was overloading my cpu so what i tried doing was restarting my computer and then only operating logic as the only program. this worked temporarily sometimes but not in the long run. well i did research and came to this.
apparently its too overbearing for my Powerbook processor to record in 24 bit/96 Khz which is kind of a bummer because it was one of my attractions to my i/o box that i could do that. also freezing tracks will help greatly apparently which i have yet to try but hope will work too.
also i recently deleted about half of the stuff on my internal drive and put my 42.41 GB of music onto my external HD so now i have 54.6 GB on my internal HD which holds about 93 GB total. should this help me greatly? or will it only be a minute difference?
well any more solutions/suggestions as to what i can do to better my situation? also am i correct as to why i think i get those error messages.
ps: sorry for the uncapitalization, i got a bit lazy here
    thanks
    -Mike

    Mike,
Bit depth is more important for recording quality than huge sample rates. If you're going to change your settings, I'd stick with 24 bit, but reduce sample rate to 48 kHz.
When you say you've put all your music on the external drive, what exactly do you mean--your Logic files or your mp3/AAC files? Normally you would want to use an external drive to record onto from Logic. That way your internal HD can run the OS and Logic, while the external is free for all the fast recording tasks. (This assumes your external HD is pretty fast, and ideally is firewire.)
Freezing works wonders, too, if you're processing tracks.

  • Hello! Newbie with PROBLEMS! Audio recording majorly DELAYED?!?!?!??  help?

Hello there! I LOVED Logic 7, was very happy to get Logic 8. Then I installed Leopard. Now Logic is F'ed up. At first I had the Coremidiserver not responding issue. I deleted those MIDI drivers as well as Reason and my Melodyne rewire and bridge plugins. But when I want to do an Audio recording, Logic freezes, I get the rainbow death wheel for 60 seconds, and THEN it starts recording. It is really bad for creativity to have to wait to get the audio track to record. Does anyone know what could be going on or how I can fix it? I am using an Mbox2. I have the Line6 Toneport, but that is not working although it works for my boyfriend who has the same computer, logic 8 and leopard. I'm confused!!! what should i do? Can genius bar help me? Sorry for sounding neurotic, I'm just really anxious to make music an d not have all these technical issues! Thank you VERY VERY much for any advice.

Are you recording to a macBook Pro internal hard drive? or to an external drive?
How much memory do you have?. The delay of 60 sec before recording is not normal. Your computer is checking something else, or is forced to do another task before executing the command of recording
logic 8 need a lot of memory the absolute minimum is 1 GB of Ram but 2 GB or more is highly recommended.
    best of luck

  • Audio-tracks delayed

With my *Digi 003 rack* and *Logic Studio Pro 8.0.2* I suddenly have recorded audio-tracks delayed when played back. If I play a guitar right on click and play it back, it is totally out of timing. Never had that one before. When I use the *Apogee Duet Soundcard*, all is working fine. Has anyone any idea what that may be?
    Cheers!
    Michael

    Hi Anthro,
I just repeat this test for you rigth now..
it is very fresh test... in order to have a perfect sync when recording an external instrument with "Software Monitoring" turn to "OFF" (for be able to repeat this test on Logic that usually is used with SW turned to "ON" you must restart Logic or Core Audio before starting the test)
I repeat this test refering to specific Logic setting : *Software Monitoring turn to "OFF"*
(when SW is turn to ON, every external incoming Audio input is recorded in perfect sync with the SMPTE and BPM time)
I have use an External Midi Drum machine as sound source!
    see the following pictures:
this is the MIDI object quantize at 1/4:
this is the Audio recording of the MIDI object and the relative coreaudio setting preferences
    *software monitoring off*
this is the Audio recording of the same Midi object with a correct Recording Delay Compensation setting.
    *software monitoring off*
If you have doubt about this test, feel free to replay me... I hope this should be help you to find a good sync....
in any case... this is not the same for all Audio devices, they can have different driver-hardware adding or less DELAY...there are faster device like Motu 828mk3 and there are not so fast device like as Digidesign core audio drivers that have proprietary security and rigths protection)
however, FOR A PERFECT Sync... i suggest to extend the resolution of the Samples Editor...
bacause some device can be set as 1124 instead 1024 (or different value)
(on My MOtu I get a near to perfect sync around 1009 /1012 Delay
(I hope this post can be helpful also for the people that they +*"cannot believe that"*+ )
    Good Luck

  • Buffer size and recording delay

    Hi
I use a Focusrite Saffire LE audio interface, and in my core audio window the buffer size is currently set at 256 and there is a recording delay of 28ms. I don't think I've ever altered these settings since I started to use Logic. I don't know if this is related, but I do notice a slight delay when I monitor what I'm recording -- a slight delay, for example, between my voice (as I'm recording it) through the headphones and my "direct" voice.
Anyway, are these settings OK, or should they be altered for optimum performance?

256 samples Buffer size will always give you a noticable amount of latency. If you use Software Monitoring you should try setting your Buffer to 64 samples. With the recording delay slider in the preferences->Audio you can compensate for the latency (of course not in realtime) so that the Audio will be placed exactly there, where it should hae been recorded at. In your case set it to a -value. A loopback test (check the link below) will clarify the exact amount of Latency occuring on your system.

  • Core audio disappeared...why?

Suddenly there's no audio output, the Sound/Output Preference pane is blank.
When starting up Peak 6, it informed me that Core Audio was no longer available.  I've been recording tapes output from the earphone jack of a boom box, digitized via an iMic plugged into the Mac's USB slot.  This has been my practice for years.  Does this mean this antique PowerBook's sound card has failed?
    Thanks for any insight,
    Greg
    PowerBookG4; 1.5 gHz; OS 10.5.8

    Never mind, I figured it out.  I deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist & com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Deleting the damaged prefs files restored the system audio.

  • "Audio Record Path Not Found" error and new details

I've been having problems opening up older GarageBand files I've created and trying to add new content. When I try to record on an existing track, or in a new track, I get the error: "Audio Record Path not Found! Please enter it in the following dialog." (and there's no following dialog). I've tried to save the file as an archive, which has worked in the past, but doesn't work any longer. I'm using a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15"
As a test, I installed iLife 06 on my older (PowerPC-based) Mac Mini. On that computer, I'm able to open the files, and record onto an existing track. None of my recording equipment is attached to this machine, however. If I save an archive and move it to my macBook Pro, I'm still not able to add recordings to it.
I tried reintalling GarageBand on my MBP, but I still get the same error. I've also deleted the preference files from Library > Preferences. (the two com.apple.garageband... files), and still no luck. It doesn't sound like the audio files themsleves are corrupted since I can open them on the Mini, so it's likely GarageBand. What else can I delete to make it a pristine installation?
I don't want to use my Mac Mini for recording, as it's too slow for my editing needs, but if I can't open the files on my MacBook Pro, I'll have to re-record them.
Anyone have any ideas I can try?

Excellent suggestion! I actually left the files on the external USB drive on which I store them, and accessed them from my MacBook Pro (instead of moving the files to the MacBook Pro), and sure enough, I'm able to edit and add to the files!
I still don't know why I can't access them locally on the MBP, but this workaround is certainly acceptible for my needs!
Thanks out to everyone who helped on this thread!

  • Garage Band 09 Changes Core Audio

I upgraded to Garage Band 09 on my aluminum 20", 2.4G Core 2 Duo, 2-GB RAM iMac. I record through a Lexicon Omega USB interface.
The Lexicon Omega has three possible USB interfaces: Channels 1-2 I/O; Channels 3-4 I only; and Mac USB. One chooses the interface using Audio MIDI Setup.app. I chose the first option above, which was the default offered by the app to set the Mac's core audio system.
I then launched the new Garage Band and, using GB's metronome for tempo, laid down four guitar tracks. Very nice and easy!
I then wanted to include a software drum loop. As soon as I chose it, GB said it had to download 1.1 GB of updates. OK...I did so. Relaunching GB, I now had my loops, but the audio input, under "Preferences", was now Mac USB. No external others were available. The guitar input now had insufferable latency.
Please don't offer to tell me to do all of the anti-latency things. Bottom line is it worked, and now it doesn't.
I can quit GB, launch Audi MIDI Setup, and set it again to Channels 1-2 USB. But as soon as I launch GB, it changes it to Mac USB with no other choices.
Why is a program such as GB allowed to change a core system setting? How do I fix it? It has ruined my ability to use the program.

I have the same equipment you do, and have been encountering similar problems. Sometimes I've had Channels 1-2 available, sometimes Mac USB, and sometimes, as right now, Audio Midi Setup cannot connect to the Lexicon Omega at all, although its icon still shows.
USB is finicky, and with a dozen USB devices it can be a trouble-shooting nightmare. I'm going to look for a firmware update for the Omega. I have a Logitech Harmony Universal Remote (USB, IR, with an RF Extender) which was nearly unusable for two years until a recent firmware update corrected the connection problems.
Please, let me know if you learn anything!

  • Mac pro latency...core audio

While I wait for the Apogee Enseble to arrive, I am working a little bit using the core audio. There is a little more latency than I am used to @512 but the worst thing is everytime I press play I have to wait about 3 seconds before anything happens. Other functions seem to be delayed as well. I checked out Garageband and the latency was terrible, completely unusable, yet when I first tried it a few days previous it was fine.
    Any suggestions would be great
2GB of Ram by the way and another 2 are on order.
    7.2.2
    10.4.7
    Thanks
    -Allan

Use an extra HD for audio recording.
    Done
    Deactivate journaling for that.
Don't use plugins like Linear Phase EQ or AdLimiter.
    Okay
You should be able to use 64 or even 32 as buffer
I will go down to 64
    Don't run Logic under Rosetta.
How do I know if Logic is running under Rosetta? I am running 7.2.2.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Help!! 3tracks of audio playing and it keeps on given m "core audio

    ola my name is fedro.
i just bought an imac 2.16Gz i run logic pro 7 nothing else.
when i 1st install logic in my "1st imac" the logic crash a lot and the mute tool on the arranje window take about 5sec to mute. also the system performance runs realy high with only 5 audio track playing!! not normal after 300 calls to apple support they told m the mac must had a hardwear problem, after 2 visits to apple enggineers and a replaced the harddrive the mac still run logic very poorly.
They gave a replacement, but it does just the same.
i have only 3tracks of audio playing and it keeps on given m "core audio or hardisk to slow"messages iam shure i have enough memory!?

    i run logic pro 7.2.0(954)imac 2.16Ghz 1Gb ram duo
    core
Well geeze... that shoots my theory all to ****.
they just replace my first imac because of similar
    problems:(((
do u guys get an 5sec delay on the mute tool"in the
arranje window)? when playing back audio??
No! Right now I'm mixing 10, 24-bit tracks from a location recording. Using 5 channel eqs, 2 Sonalksis eqs, 2 Sonalksis compressors and a wizoo convolution reverb (this is on a G4) and everything is pretty much instantaneous, about 45% processor usage.
Your computer is several times more powerful than what I'm using.
    You're using internal audio?
Try updating Logic to the most recent version.
I find it hard to believe it's RAM or Disc related, but maybe so. I don't have any experience setting up the intel machines.
Fedro, are you running a bunch of plugins on the audio tracks? If so what are they.

  • Core Audio Drivers not Found Error (no Logic Pro Installed)

I am receiving the following error in GarageBand 08 and was hoping someone might be able to assist.
When recording with a USB mic in GarageBand 08 (MXL USB.006) I sometimes get the following error: (Core Audio Drivers not Found). The error occurs after I have completed a recording session and removed the USB mic. (The error occurs regardless of if I close GB before removing the mic; but only occasionally)
In checking the GB preferences, the Built-In audio option has disappeared from the drop down menu entirely for both Audio Input and Audio Output (although it still can find the USB mic if I reattach). In the Utilities folder, audio preferences, the Built-In audio option is also missing from the drop downs. (Not grayed out -- missing).
In researching the problem, it looks like a similar problem occurs with the Logic Pro suite but I don't have that installed on my Mac (and never have). In contacting MXL support, they noted that it was a problem with Leopard and they didn't have a fix.
At this point, I'm looking for either (1) a fix I've missed in my research or (2) an easy way to reinstall/replace/find the drivers without having to restore my system from backup. I've received the error three times now and restoring from back up - which clears the error and restores the drop down - is getting tiresome.
    Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion! I believe that was the issue the first time I lost the drivers. Unfortunately, even resetting the inputs and closing GB before disconnecting doesn't guarantee my Built-In audio won't disappear. Thank you for trying though!
