Preferences Corrupt/Lost QuickTime Pro

My /Library/Preferences/ folder recently became corrupt. I figured no big deal, I can simply recreate my networks etc. However, it seems I lost QuickTime Pro and I don't know how to get this back. I received QuickTime Pro as part of Final Cut Studio so I don't have a serial number. Help?
I did not post this under Safari but some reason it decided to go there.

Not sure if we can "move" threads just yet in the new community format but you can re post in the QuickTime forum here.

If QuickTime Player 7 isn't in the Utilities folder automatically, you can install it separately. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
Instructions on how to register your QuickTime Pro key can be found in that same document.

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

  • HT2376 Lost Quicktime Pro registration key

I have lost the Quicktime Pro registration key but it is not listed in my order history on Apple's Online Store. Any suggestions? Thx!

Apple keep purchase information for up to 18 months, it is then deleted after this time.
If you did not keep the registration details from the purchase email, you will need to purchase it again.

i'm no expert on the topic (experts please feel free to leap in), but this document might be of some help with that:
QuickTime Pro Key: Retrieving a lost key

  • I've lost quicktime pro and can't find it. I had to re-install my HD and now QT Pro has gone and I can't find details of when I bought it.

I'm 10.6.8 and I use a Macbook Pro. I bought QT pro a while ago and since I've re installed my stuff all I've got is QT and I need the older version (that I paid for) to edit.
Any help will be much appreciated.

It's not the player I need
QuickTime Pro is not a separate application, so you won't find it by searching your system or by looking for a download. A Pro key just unlocks the extra features of QuickTime Player and the QuickTime browser plugin. You need the QuickTime Player 7 Kirk and I have referred to; only that version can be "unlocked" with a Pro key.
I can't find that either. I've trawled my email and can't find it.
Log into your account in the Apple Store and click on the Downloadable Software Purchases link. You should find the key shown there. If not, you may need to purchase a new key.

  • Installed 10.4.3 and lost QuickTime Pro

Hope this hasn't already been asked...
I recently upgraded to Tiger and it caused me to lose my QuickTime Pro features. I have my Key and Part Number from my online purchase. Any way I can reinstate my purchasing of Pro without buying it again?
    Thanks.

If you have a key for QuickTime Pro 6, then you'll need to purchase a new key for Tiger. Only QuickTime Pro 7 works with Tiger.

  • How do I retrieve Quicktime pro

    Hi Guys
I am having reinstallation problems I have lost quicktime pro and can't contact Apple directly to get the download.....
    Any Ideas?
    Leo

The Pro features are in any installation but are inactivated until you enter the Pro key in the Registration section of the Preferences. If you have lost the registration name and key you can visit the Apple Store and click on "Review my Account" in the upper riight hand corner. You then will need to enter your QT ID and Password (same ones you enter to log in to these forums) and then there should be a place to click labeled Software Downloads. That will show your Registration name and Key.

  • How to fill a customer complaint? (Quicktime Pro)

For more than a week I'm waiting my lost quicktime pro key to be emailed without success (the key is not in the order).
I really don't have the time to go behind apple like that...
I bought plenty of hardware and software over the years, but this make me think twice to recommend apple customer service dept

Log into the Apple Store using the same ID used for the purchase.
Click your account and then click the "Downloadable software history" link.
Your registration info will be there.

  • Can't find my registration key for quicktime pro?

I have to go through a lot of searching in finding it under 2 accounts. It's just a lot easier getting it sent to me again rather trying to find it here where it should be easy to find, but not. It sure is not under my account history? Been like 5 or 6 years when I bought Quicktime Pro. But still should not make a difference in why it's not under account history. Can you please send me the registration code so I can have it registered on a new pc? Thanks.

This is a user to user forum: you aren't talking to Apple here and no-one on here can help you. I assume you've checked your back emails?
Apple's word on the subject says:
You can retrieve purchased registration keys with these steps:
    Visit the Apple Online Store.
Click "Account" in the upper-right corner.
On the "Your Account" page, click "View Order History".
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Additional Information
You can only retrieve a lost QuickTime Pro key if you purchased it through the Web. In most cases, the key will be identical to the key you lost.
If you purchased your QuickTime Pro upgrade from another source, the key is not available for retrieval and you must purchase another key from The Apple Store.
If you have already tried this and cannot find it, you can only contact the Store and ask them.

  • I cannot enter the key code for updating to QuickTime Pro 7 as there is no Icon in Preferences and no Registration option in menu?

I have followed the clear instructions to enter the purchased key code for QuickTime Pro 7. There are two options offered:-
    1. Go into Preferences and select the QuickTime Player icon and enter the code that way.
    2. Open QuickTime Player and open up ‘registration’ and enter the key code.
For whatever reason I have neither option available to me although QuickTime player is on my system and I use it regularly. It is version 10 build (118). I have run software updates and there is no upgrade available. I have downloaded the latest version and tried to load it but this fails because the system finds a version already available. I have attempted to uninstall but whilst it moves it from the Application folder, it remains on the Mac as it is part of the system files. So I cannot use the Pro version. The iMac is a 27” Intel about a year old and has all the software updates available to me installed.
Any offers for suggestions or past experiences that can help me overcome this conundrum?

Both answers were spot on. I made the mistake yesterday of downloading the version for Leopard in my haste. I also thought the issue was related to having to uninstall the current version X.
So the moral of the episode is check the version you have and make certain you download the correct version for your system. All works now.
    Thanks chaps!

i just bought quicktime pro and can't get it to show up in my system preferences. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
QuickTime only appears on System Preferences if you are running Mac OS X Leopard, and you have OS X Mountain Lion.
In Mac OS X Snow Leopard and newer, QuickTime Player 7 isn't included, so you have to install it before getting QuickTime 7 Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3678
After installing QuickTime Player 7, you have to activate it in order to get QuickTime 7 Pro. In that link, follow the steps under "Information for QuickTime 7 Pro users"
