Preferences/General - How do I get it to save?

I don't want my apps to open previous windows.  When I go into Prefs/General and unclick "Restore windows when quitting...," and close prefernces, it doesn't save it.  When I re-open Prefs/General, it's checked again.

open terminal and type in
killall Finder
press enter
killall Dock
press enter
killall Terminal
press enter
try changing this preference again. if that doesn't work restart your computer but uncheck the check box that comes up

  • How do i get photos to save directly into my cloud not just my phone?

i purchased extra room on my iCloud and turned on photo stream on my devices. i did this so my photos would be stored on the cloud because i always run out of storage on my phone. firstly, how do i get pictures to start automatically saving into the photo stream? and how do i get photos to save directly into the cloud and not just on my device? I have my cloud connected between my macbook, ipad and iphone. i have mountain lion on my macbook, my ipad was just purchased last week so should be up to date, and have downloaded and installed the most up to date software on my phone.

    Hello zampass,
Photos do not take up space on your iCloud storage. Photo Stream is seperate from iCloud storage.
Does Photo Stream use my iCloud storage?
No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage.
From: iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4486
I would recommend turning on Photo Stream, outlined in the same FAQ:
How do I turn on Photo Stream?
Once your devices are up to date and you have set up your iCloud account, it’s easy turn on Photo Stream on any of your devices. Here’s how:
On your iOS devices, go to Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and turn on My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams.
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > iCloud and select the checkbox for Photo Stream. Click the Options button to verify that both My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams are enabled. Then, open iPhoto or Aperture to confirm that My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams are turned on in the application you want to use with Photo Stream. You can also adjust your Photo Stream settings in iPhoto or Aperture Preferences.
And tell iPhoto to automatically Import the photos to the computer from Photo Stream in the iPhoto Preferences:
That way your Photo stream items will always Automatically download to your computer and you can sync them to whatever device you choose.
When all that is setup, you can delete newer photos as you take them or periodically from the Camera Roll to free up space.
Keep this in mind from the FAQ:
What photo formats does Photo Stream support?
Photo Stream supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. Photo Stream does not work with video.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • I changed a password to a frequesntly used site. Firefox has not asked me if I want to save this new password and I have to keep changing the saved one to the correct one. How do I get it to save the new password?

I have websites I use for my employer that require a password. The employer requires these be changed periodically. Always before, if I changed the password, about the second or third time I tried to log in and changed the saved password to the correct one, Firefox would ask if I wanted to save the new password. It is not doing this now. How can I get it to save a new password? It keeps putting in the old one.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
*You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
*To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.

  • No history is saved on my I pad mini how can I get it to save? Please

No history is being saved on my I pad mini how can I get it to save please?

An iOS fluke or mail app glitch maybe. Not sure anyone will know why you get it. Do you're ever close the mail app? Try closing it and reset the iPad and see if the message goes away.
Assuming that you are running iOS 7, in order to close apps, you drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Mail app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • HT203164 there is no tab labeled "burn" when I go tp "preferences/general" How am I suppossed to burn a CD???

I have no tab in "preferences/general" for "burn." How am I supposed to burn an album to a CD?

To burn an album to CD or DVD
    1. Export it to a folder on the desktop. File -> Export
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    2. Drag that to the CD/DVD
    3. Burn that with the Finder's Burn Command
Remember: if this is a backup then don't invest in optical media for this purpose. Soon the CD and DVD will be gone the way of the floppy disk and the zip drive.

  • I have just downloaded CS6 and RAW 8.2.  I cannot get RAW into Bridge, but it shows up in Photoshop Preferences.  How can I get RAW into Bridge?

How do I get Camera RAW 8.2 to show up in Bridge?

The latest ACR for CS6 is ARC 8.7.1 and ist get installed into a common folder that both Photoshop and Bridge use. CS6 perpetual Windows should be at level 13.0.1.3 and Mac at level 13.0.6 where subscription CS6 version should be at version 13.1.2.  You may have installed ACR 8.2 into Photoshop CS6 Plug-in folder  that is not the correct location.. Where it goes depends on your OS Platform and level.

  • I have installed Apache Open Office. Each time I try to open, I have to go into security preferences. How can I get it to download and show up in my launchpad that I don't have to download everytime I use it?

I have unlocked it each time, relocked it and each time I go to use the program, have to go through this procedure. How can I get it downloaded to stay downloaded since it is from an unidentified developer?

You need to install it - just downloading does not necessarily install it. If you double click it, does it open an installer window? Or, can you simply drag it into your Applications folder (if it is not showing in Launchpad)?
FWIW, your downloads folder is just a temporary "holding" place for your downloads - once you have installed applications or moved other files where they belong, you can empty that folder.
PS - If this is what you downloaded, it is a disk image (.dmg) which means you need to double click it; you then need to move the icon and install it.
Out of curiosity: is it working well? I'm curious because it is rather dated software.

  • How do you get Firebox to save a bookmark to the last bookmark folder you used?

In previous versions of Firefox, when I went to save a bookmark, it use to pull up the previous bookmark file that I used. This is very handy if you're bookmarking several websites into the same category instead of having to search for the same file in Bookmarks. How do we get Bookmarks to remember the last file used to add the bookmark to?

    Eren,
Yes.  When you finish editing the fields on the Info tab, click "OK" and the artist, name, year, etc will be written to the file itself.
So will the artwork if you have pasted it into the Artwork tab (but not if you have gotten it via the Get Album Artwork command).
To make sure the info really did get written, play the same file in another player.
Also, if you have anything on your computer that will undo the changes, make sure to disable it.  In particular, go into Windows Media Player on the Tools > Options > Library tab, and uncheck anything that is capable of editing your tags (Rename...,  Retrieve..., etc).  Otherwise, WMP may undo the edits you make in iTunes.

  • I updated to Lion. Now when I preview a document, there is no Save As button, it is either Save a version or duplicate. How do I get back my Save As button?

I updated to Lion. Now when I preview a document that I have in Downloads or Documents and I want to Save As, when I go to File, instead of Save As, I now have Save Version, then when I click on that it says the document is locked, do I want to unlock or duplicate? How do I get back to just plain ole Save As?
I have no idea why the document would be locked. Help, please.

Here is a normal Save menu in TextEdit, for example:
Now with that menu visible in TextEdit simply press down the OPTION key and a Save As option should appear just below the Save option in the menu.
Now, I may have forgotten since it's been a while, but that may not work in Lion. So either you upgrade, if possible, to Mountain Lion or Yosemite or:
Select the Duplicate option which will open a new copy of your document. You may then Save that copy. When you do you will be asked to provided a new document name. This would replace Save As.

  • How do I get Firefox to save a ussername and password that I didn't want saved previously?

If I previously X-ed out of the "save user name and password" option, or clicked no on it.... how do I get it back so I can now have Firefox save a username and password for that same site?
When I set up a computer at work and used it to check on personal accounts real quick, I didn't think I should save my personal info. Turns out I'm the only on using it and I can do whatever I want. The boss will only use Internet Explorer, if he uses my computer at all. And he said he doesn't care what I use it for during slow time. So, now I want to save my personal accounts info on Firefox. But how?

I had exactly the same problem with YouTube, having previously deleted an account and in the process of setting up a new one at a later date. At the time of deleting I had deleted the YouTube 'Username and Password' from Firefox but could not get it to remember the new, in fact the option to save did not even appear.
I looked in 'Exceptions' but as expected nothing was there. I then remembered that YouTube is now part of Google so went into 'Options/Security/Saved Passwords/Search for 'Google' which brought up all the different Google Usernames and Passwords, in fact some did not have Passwords, and deleted the lot. Went back into YouTube, logged in and Hey Presto was asked if I wished to retain the Username and Password.
What other Google apps I have, I already have saved Usernames and Passwords stored elsewhere so no worries about not getting into them. Seems Google can sometimes be a pain in the neck.

  • How can I get slices to save as PNG?

Up until recently, the "save selected slices" command has always saved slices as PNGs. Now suddenly it's saving them as JPEGs. What could have happened to change this, and how can I get it back to saving PNGs?

The iPhone 5 (and iPhone 4S) both have 8-megapixel cameras, which means their photos contain approximately 8 million pixels.  A portrait photo is 2448 pixels wide and 3264 pixels tall, giving a resolution of 7990272 pixels.  A Megabyte is a measure of how much space the photo takes on disk and will vary based on the content and complexity of the photo.
Your iPhone 5 photos are very likely good enough to include in a newsletter, even at a large size.  The best thing to do is to print an example to make sure it looks good enough for you.
