Preferences in Greek

I open my Library and go to Preferences and find that about 20% are in
English. The rest appear to be in Greek. I can't read Greek.
Help, thanks

OK then. Did I ask the wrong question that shows how ignorant I am OR did I ask at the wrong time? I would would gladly accept a "go read this" answer rather than a tutorial.
Anybody got any thoughts?

  • Greek does not display correctly in iTunes

    I am currently using Japanese as my primary language on OS 10.4.3, and I am having problems with it displaying Greek correctly.
    I have many songs in iTunes that have Greek titles and artists that do not seem to display well. The same goes to Address Book and iCal. The letters are correct ones, but it is very untidy and hard to read - some letters are italicized and each letter is very wide (like Japanese characters). This is a problem considering that I use Japanese, English, and Greek with equal frequency, although I would prefer to have my menu in Japanese in case my family needs to use the computer. For some reason, my iPod's language is Japanese as well, but the Greek there displays perfectly (in Helvetica font).
    When I set the primary language to English in System Preferences, the Greek displays beautifully (again, in Helvetica). I therefore suspect that this incorrect rendering is due to the default Greek font (or its lack thereof) when the OS is set to Japanese.
    Does anybody know any solutions for this issue by any chance? Thank you very much in advance

    Thank you, your suggestion led me from one thing to another, and I think I came to some kind of compromise.
    You were absolutely right about TinkerTool, where you can change the system languages. However, for some reason TinkerTool disregarded the fact that I was using Japanese as my main language, and showed that my system font was Lucida Grande (instead of Hiragino). So I went to VersionTracker and found the haxie Silk, which enables font substition, and it worked! I could allow only iTunes to show everything in Lucida Grande.
    But then, being dissatisfied that I had to use a haxie to make this work (instead of just changing the font altogether) I found (finally, duh) that one could "turn off a font" in FontBook - but the Hiragino font (Japanese system font) could not be turned off. Upon changing the system language to English and turning Hiragino off, I logged off, changed back the system font to Japanese and logged on again, at which point the applications that used Hiragino no longer opened. sigh
    After this adventure, I decided that I'll either 1) suck it up and buy Silk (to register it after my free 15-day trial is up) or 2) remove the Japanese language option for iTunes and Address book.
    Thank you very much for all your help!

  • Greeking in Illustrator CS5

    How do I turn it off or reduce it, the greeking option is gone now in cs5 and the gray box is making it really hard to position text.

    The following preferences configure greeking in CS5:
    Preferences > Interface. Then slide the bar between better performance and higher quality. (facilitates greeking when scrolling)
    Preferences > Display performance. Now the these bars also seem to configure greeking. If one wants to greek the types below a certain amount of points it can be configured here as well.

  • 10.4.6 causing problem with Dreamweaver?

    Hi there,
    I have recently installed 10.4.6
    I also had to reinstall all my software (I had a HD crash..)
    But now I'm experiencing some odd stuff with DreamweaverMX.
    It won't display Greek characters in the design view or the code view. It used to do this fine in the 10.3.3 that I was running before. Files made on the previous system are not dispaying correctly.
    New files I can manage to display Greek in the code, but it won't display in the design view.
    It's showing capitals with dots and so on above them.
    Online it's still showing Greek.
    I tried several options in Dreamweaver but it will not resolve. I came across some topics of related problems but in earlier version 10.4.1 and 10.4.2.
    Maybe 10.4.6 has issues here?
    btw. The computer is already set to switching languages with a key option.
    Anybody else experiencing some trouble?
    Miki

    Closed..
    sorry
    Hip Hip Hurray!!
    I found the answer to my problem!
    All settings involved are the following:
    Mac:
    -International settings in System Preferences: add
    Greek in the list.
    -Of course select the Greek flag in the menu to start
    the Greek typing.
    DreamweaverMX:
    1st- Preferences Settings / 'New Document' and 'Font'
    both either in Greek(ISO-8859-7) or UTF-8 or Unicode
    2ndly: Add Symbol font to the Font list by
    selecting from the Dreamweaver
    menu-Text/Font/Edit Font List, -and select
    Symbol to the font list.
    'Ok' the window and it will work just fine!
    Edit the font list when there is no file open,
    otherwise Symbol isn't in the list.
    Closing the topic now. Problem Solved.
    thanks for reading&posting!

  • Office 2010 Proofing Tools - Language appears as not installed

    Hi everyone,
    let me start by saying that I have searched throughout Google and especially these forums and still haven't found a solution to my problem. We have purchased (at work) 7 new PCs with Windows 7 (64-bit) Office 2010 AND Proofing Tools already installed. To
    cut a long story short, I've gone through the Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and added the Greek Language (Run From my Computer). After that completes successfully, when I go in the Office 2010 Language Preferences the Greek Language Proofing Tools
    still show up as Not Installed.
    I've tried all the suggestions in the forum (Registry tweaks, Control Panel) but nothing works. I have seen other users with this issue in various forums and I would really appreciate if anyone can provide any suggestions on it.
    Thank you very much for your time.

    Same problem here. I've just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, so I had to reinstall all of my software, including Office 2010 English language with added Italian proofing tools. Of course, when I reistalled, my Italian proofing tools were gone. I
    clicked on the link found under the options\language menu ("not installed") and downloaded "Italian Proofing Tools 2013", which installed correctly (they show up in my Installed Programs). Unfortunately, Word still won't recognise the Italian
    proofing tools, even though I've followed all of the previous instructions (keyboard layout enabled etc.). Can you kindly provide help? It worked perfectly under Windows 7. I'd like to clarify that I don't need the whole Language Pack, just the Proofing Tools.
    Thanks in advance.

    Have you changed the system voice to an English one in system preferences?

  • How to insert a greek symbol like "alfa" and "beta" in Pages 5.0

    How do I insert a greek symbol like "alfa" or "beta" in Pages 5.0

    The same way you would in any other OS X app... there are various keyboard shortcuts for common letters (e.g. Ω is 'alt-z'), but if you are not sure what they are there are two quite simple solutions.
    Both require you go to "Keyboard Prefernces" in "System Preferences" on your computer and put a tick in the box "Show keyboard and character viewer in menu bar".
    Once you have done this, you get an extra menu item that gives you access to two OS X utilities - "Character Viewer" and "Keyboard Viewer"
    Character viewer opens a window that allows you to look for specific characters, copy them and paste them into your document.  It is very powerful, and probably overkill for what you want.  But worth knowing about.
    Keyboard viewer is a floating window that shows you what OS X thinks each key will produce when you type it.  It adjusts itself to match whatever language / keyboard you are using, and shows immediately the effect of pressing the adjuster keys.  Here is the viewer showing what happens when you press the alt key...

    Microsoft has finally addressed this issue!
    You need to download and install the 14.2.4 update (110MB) for Office 2011 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34690
    Unfortunately, if you have been lazy with updating you will also need to download:
    Service Pack 1 (14.1.0), 247MB: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17198
    [Service Pack 2 (14.2.0), 110MB: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29419 -> you don't have to download this]
    Update 14.2.3, 110MB: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30214
    These are all pre-required...
    This update adds the ability to select a default text encoding for composing new messages.The encoding that is selected in composing preferences will be applied to all new messages that are sent from Mac Outlook. To access composing preferences, select Outlook, select Preferences, and then select Composing. The new preference is Preferred encoding for new messages. • Creating a preferences window

    Hi
    I wonder if there is any way to create in Director a
    preferences window (see example below).
    http://www.guide.lancs.ac.uk/tellguidemyname.html
    In particular what i would like to do is to allow my users to
    select the things they want to select from the preferences window
    and then when press save to get the appropriate movie.
    If the user selects the language of the system to be English
    then play movie English otherwise
    if the user selects the language of the system to be Greek
    then play Greek movie
    and
    If the user selects architecture + maritime related
    information to play movie A (that contains the relevant content)
    otherwise if the user selects History and architecture then
    play movie B (that contains the relevant content)
    I would also like to record the preferences selected in some
    kind of text file that would tell what the user selected. Is there
    any way to do that?
    All ideas will be appriciated
    Many thanks

    I don’t have a simple dir I can post but Buddy
    API’s help file has some code snippets that make good
    examples. If you have trouble getting started let me know. What I
    can post are some examples of how to use my scripts to code the ini
    data, keep in mind that you only need to code the data if you are
    allowing the users to type text strings to be stored in the ini
    file, if all of your data is generated by lingo you can make sure
    the data is ini safe yourself without having to code it first.
    First the scripts, copy and save in a movie script cast
    member:
    on codeIniData cMode, iniString
    case cMode of
    "read" :
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"¬","=")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"¶",RETURN)
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"µ",";")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"§","#")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"«","[")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"»","]")
    "write" :
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"=","¬")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,RETURN,"¶")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,numToChar(10),"¶")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,";","µ")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"#","§")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"[","«")
    iniString = replaceField(iniString,"]","»")
    otherwise : alert "Unknown mode in codeIniData."
    end case
    return iniString
    end
    on replaceField input, stringToFind, stringToInsert
    output = ""
    findLen = stringToFind.length - 1
    repeat while input contains stringToFind
    currOffset = offset(stringToFind, input)
    output = output & input.char [1..currOffset]
    delete the last char of output
    output = output & stringToInsert
    delete input.char [1.. (currOffset + findLen)]
    end repeat
    set output = output & input
    return output
    end
    OK, lets say you create the following ini file using notepad
    and save it with the name “foodPrefs.ini” in the same
    folder as your dir movie:
    [breakfast]
    sue=coffee
    bill=bagel
    tom=eggs
    [lunch]
    sue=Chicken McNuggets
    bill=Quarter Pounder with cheese
    tom=Fries
    If you want to read Bill’s lunch preference into
    Director simply use the following:
    myIniPath = _movie.path & " foodPrefs.ini"
    billsLunch =
    codeIniData("read",baReadIni("lunch","bill","Error",myIniPath))
    if billsLunch = "Error" then alert "Error reading settings
    file."
    If you have an editable text cast member with the name
    "suesBreakfast" and ask sue to type her breakfast order, to save
    that order do the following:
    myIniPath = _movie.path & " foodPrefs.ini"
    suesOrder = codeIniData("write",member("suesBreakfast").text)
    resultCode =
    baWriteIni("breakfast","sue",suesOrder,myIniPath)
    if not resultCode then alert "Error writing settings file."
    The most common reason for getting the alert when reading or
    writing to the ini file is either an error in your path or having
    the ini file open in notepad at the same time Buddy API is trying
    to access it. For best results quit notepad before testing.
    Storing the contents of an editable text cast member is an
    example of why you want to code the ini data. It is possible,
    although unlikely, that the user will type characters that have
    special meaning in an ini file, I simply temporarily replace those
    characters with others that are impossible to type (well, not
    really impossible, but very unlikely).
    If you are curious, numToChar(10) is the linefeed character
    which I replace with a standard RETURN. The most likely reason to
    encounter a LF is because the user copied and pasted the text from
    another source. Director doesn’t display LF’s in
    strings, so replacing it with a RETURN keeps the formatting looking
    like the original.

  • Turn off toolbars in preferences

    I know how to turn toolbars off from the View menu, but that is not permanent.  I *never* want toolbars (that's what G_D made menus for--the Egyptians invented hieroglyphycis, but He invented the alphabet for His people).  But afaict, there's no way to turn off toolbars in the Preferences dialog box.  Tell me it isn't so!  Enquiring minds want to know.

    I am not the original poster, but I am having similar problems with Safari, especially in displaying Greek Fonts.
    I have all the necessary Greek fonts installed on my computer (and then some!). Pages with Greek text encoded in their style sheets display fine in Firefox, but Safari only displays the English letters instead of the Greek fonts.
    Is there no way to allow pages to select their own fonts in Safari like there is in Firefox?
    Try this link:
    http://www.htmlbible.com/sacrednamebiblecom/kjvstrongs/B46C013.htm
    The Greek letters display fine for me in Firefox with the above link, but, in Safari, nothing but English characters.

  • My font has gone to Greek!

    Hey -
    I was ejecting a Cd from the CD-ROM drive, but when it wouldnt open I pressed it three times. Right after that the screen flashed to black and then reappeared as before. From that point on everything I type is seen as Greek and other assorted characters. I've tried to reset my input to English but I saw no results. Im afraid to re-boot and get locked out of my computer. Any ideas?

    In the top right-hand corner of the screen there should be a flag or foreign symbol next to the clock. If it's Greek, it should be a Greek flag. Click on that and change it to U.S. and everything should be in English again.
    If that's not there then go to System Preferences and click on International (or the flag if it's in Greek, top row), click on Input Menu (or the tab on the right), check the box below the list of all the languages and that will put the flag in the menu bar and you can go from there. Hope this helps
    //edit
    Whoops, didn't see that you tried this already.. nevermind.

  • Greek font word for mac 2011?

    I have been attempting to download a greek font with diacritics. I have been using Ismini, which worked with word 2008, but the symbol function no longer supports the diacritics. Help would be appreciated!

    There is no need to download any font for this.  You just use the Greek Polytonic keyboard layout provided in system preferences/language & text/input sources and type away.
    It looks to me like ismini is a non-standard font that maps greek characaters to Latin.  I strongly recommend you move from that to the Unicode standard used by OS X and all modern computers, and for which fonts are already installed.

  • Greek Letters, Symbols for College Fraternities and Sororites

    Does anyone know how to access a palette of characters that has Greek letters or symbols for Greek Fraternities and Sororities? I am working on a project and I need to have their letters on the screen.
    Thanks!
    Examples:
    Delta looks like a triangle
    Omega looks like a horseshoe
    Phi looks like a O with a line in the middle of it.

    Here's another way.
    Go to System Preferences > International > Input Menu.
    Activate the checkboxes for Character Palette and Keyboard Viewer.
    Close System Preferences. You will notice that a flag has appeared in your menu bar.
    Click the flag and choose Character Palette. Click on Greek in the left column.
    In FCP, activate the text input field by clicking in it once.
    Double clicking the symbols in the Character Palette will insert them in the text input field.
