Preferences in Itunes

I need to export some iphone backup from itunes ...
When i go to itunes - preferences and then Devices - there is many backup for my friends & family iphone and i dont want to losse them... i need to export them because i want to format my Mac...
Any idea how to it...
I went to Itunes library in the music folder and found only the music + the iphone apps... i couldnt get the iphones backups

When using my iPhone and Macbook with iTunes, I cannot get the checkboxes to stay checked in iTunes to use the automatic downloads for iCloud. It is so frustrating. I check box them and hit ok under store preferences for iTunes, and when I go back in, they are unchecked. There is no option under the "Preferences" in iTunes to "Look for iPhones or iPads."

Every advice on not being able to link my Remote on my iPhone to my pc iTunes states to go to 'Preferences' in iTunes and under the 'Device's tab to check "Look for iPhones or iPads". I have no such option.
Can someone help?

No USB, this is done over your wi-fi network. You do have wi-fi at home right? Are your computer and iPhone both connected your network, and the same network? (some wi-fi networks have a separate guest network).

Preferences in ITUNES freezes

I am trying to change my preference in ITUNES and no matter what tab I click on, when I change the preference and click OK it freezes. Does anybody know why?

let's check to see if this is a systemwide thing, or if it's associated with a specific user account.
let's try an experiment.
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
launch itunes. you'll eventually see a blank library screen. (that's normal ... your music is in the other XP account.)
try changing a preference in itunes in the new account. does it change, or does it freeze there too?

Where are the PLAYLIST and EQ preferences for iTunes located?

Somehow I lost my iTunes Playlist when I moved the audio files to another hard drive on the same computer. Does anyone know where the PLAYLIST and EQ preferences for iTunes located on a Mac? Also can I make a copy or backup of those preferences? Thanks!

There are no Playlist Preferences - playlists are saved into the iTunes Library database file (what we call "the Library" in these forums).
There is however a com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist file - it's in the ~user/Library/Preferences folder. Individual EQs for your tracks are stored in the iTunes Library file.

Editing Preferences in ITunes

I have edited My Preferences in ITunes a number of times but the changes never take. It always goes back to the origianl defaults. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using iTunes 7.0.2? Do you have security software running on the computer?

Another thing you can try is doing a selective startup: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538 which will resolve application conflicts.

User preferences in itunes 11.02

I can't find user preferences in itunes 11.02. In earlier version in was under the edit button along with devices etc. Can't find devices either for that matter or advanced preferences. Edit button only seems to appear when I am in plalist and then the preferences offered are limited to that playlist. Help!

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.

How to restore preferences on iTunes after an archive & install

Hi,
My main HD had some critical problems that needed to be fixed and overcome using Disk Warrior. After that my OS was non-functional, so I proceeded to do an archive & install. Now upon using iTunes, I've always had my iTunes library on a separate HD because of the many thousands of mp3s I have. Now the problem is that with the archive and install I have lost all my star ratings for ALL my tracks plus I've also lost the many, many playlists I created in the past. I made everything according to my preferences over a good number of years and CANNOT face going through it again!
Is there a .plist file I can salvage from my old system folder that will update my new copy of iTunes?
Please help I'm pretty desperate here :-P

I actually found it out going along on my own actually. What I did was make iTunes load with the library from my previous system iTunes folder which for some reason wasn't present on my master HDD. Everything was back to normal like it should be with ratings, settings and all intact \o/
I actually never bothered looking, but now I realized that iTunes ALWAYS has to make its folders under /Users/xyz user/Music regardless of where the mp3s are stored. I actually didn't realize that the library settings were stored on the master HDD separate to where the mp3s were stored, which was on the slave HDD. Does anyone know why iTunes doesn't just keep all the information together, or migrate that information according to where you want the source of the iTunes library to be?

I have (I believe) downloaded all updated software requirements to enable auto sync between my devices through iCloud. However, when I go to enable iTunes I cannot access Preferences to do this? I cannot see anywhere to click on Preferences in my iTunes view. Any help would be appreciated.

On a Mac you can open iTunes' preferences via command-comma (or the iTunes drop-down menu at the top of iTunes) - automatic downloads is then on the Store tab on that. On your iOS devices it's in Settings > iTunes & App Stores (Settings > Store if they aren't on iOS 6_

IPod preferences in iTunes incomplete

This is a repost of a problem I've been having.
When I connect the iPod to my G4 at home (see details below) the preferences only show "Music" and "Podcasts". To the right of that submenu, it shows my iPod version as "6.0". From my iTunes at home I can't upload video or photos. However, when I connect to my G5 at work (OSX 10.3.9, iLife '05, iTunes 6.0.1, Quicktime 7.0.3) the "Video", "Photo", "Contacts" and "Calender" update menus all appear. To the right of those submenus the iPod version is displayed as "1.1", which is correct according to the "About" menu on my iPod.
Things I have tried to rectify the situation:
-deleting iTunes and reinstalling
-verifying and repairing disk permissions
-downloading the latest iPod update 2006-1-10
Given that both computers are running OSX 10.3.9, I'm pretty certain it's not an OS issue. The software on my home computer, aside from the OS, is more up to date than my work computer, so why is my iPod use maximized at work and not at home?

I can't save my "preferences" on iTunes.

I have iTunes on my PC at work and at home. At work, I have turned off the "crossfade" preference and at the bottom of the page is an "ok" button which allows me to save my changed preference.
On my iTunes at home, all the same preference selections are there, but there is no way to save the preference. So, I deselect the "crossfade" option, but when you exit, the crossfade gets turned right back on because there is no "ok" or "save" button.
I have upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and STILL there is no option for saving my preferences.
Has anyone else run into this quirk?

Is the iTunes volume control up far enough and can you see the time elapsed indicator moving?
If both these things are okay, then check your audio settings for your computer; has the mute control been turned on (which mutes the sound)? The mute control may be different on your computer, but on mine, there is a small speaker icon in the bottom right corner (on the taskbar).
If the taskbar speaker has that red-crossed circle, then the volume is muted. Click on it to open the "speaker" bar and then click on the speaker in the speaker bar to un-mute. Also, the slider control is another volume control, separate from the iTunes one. This must be up towards the top of the scale.

That depends on how you set it all up. If you chose the "connect to iTunes" option then you should be able to sync content to the hard drive on the Apple TV. If you chose the "add shared library" option then you can only stream to the Apple TV.

Any way to reset the iPod preferences in iTunes?

For a while now I've had a problem where my iPod Shuffle is recognized as a Shuffle by the Finder, but not by the iPod updater or iTunes. They both seemed to think that the Shuffle was actually a normal iPod. Contacts and calendars would try to sync and even if I only let a couple songs get transferred, I can't hear them with the Shuffle anyway.
This problem had gone away for a couple weeks. My computer was restarted and all of a sudden iTunes was recognizing my Shuffle as a gasp Shuffle. Unfortunately, today it went back to thinking it was some other kind of iPod. So I did a software update (iTunes 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 and a security update) and allowed the computer to restart. Still having the same darn problem. In iTunes the Shuffle isn't recognized as a Shuffle but is recognized as a normal iPod.
When it shows up on the desktop, however, it has the Shuffle icon.
My Powerbook running the same OS and software versions works fine - but all my music is on my desktop. Please someone tell me how to get iTunes to work properly!

You could try if deleting the iPod prefs. helps.
Move 'com.apple.iPod.plist' (in ~/Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences) to the trash.
Run iTunes. iTunes will create a new iPod prefs. file.
If this doesn't work, you might have to restore the iPod:
Restoring iPod to factory settings
