Preferences in safari changes
Why does my preferences for safari changes every time I start it?
It might just be registering the last time you opened Safari to be able to send relavent crash reports if there should happen to be a crash. Note, unless you specifically ask it to send said crash information to Apple it won't.

Safari is changing the entered URL by itself. Not sure why this happens, but sometimes when entering a certain web address Safari changes it by itself into something like Google or Ebay. Once this happens you cannot go to the desired web address for a couple of hours: Safari keeps redirecting to the same Google or Ebay site. Often the next the day the problem is resolved and everything works fine again. Does anybody have a clue what might be going on here?
Most likely your ISP is re directing your browser.
Use OpenDNS for better speed, security, it's free and no more re directs.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
208.67.222.222
Click +
208.67.220.220
Then click OK.
More about OpenDNS here.

Can't access Preferences in Safari 5.0.5
I have an older Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5. I've been unable to access Preferences in Safari--half the time the web page doesn't change, the other half the program crashes.
Any ideas?I'd try opening up any Music Project, or Podcast Episode (a garageband project) and trying it. However; I can access GB Prefs while not having a project open. Might be just you, or just me. Either way, try opening up a project.

For years I've Safari and only Safari, but at the moment I cannt'. When I google danish words as for instance Århus Kommune, Safari changes the danish letters (æ, ø and å) to (even more) strange letters (Ã¥rhus kom). Firefox doesn't. How come? Help me back to Safari, please
No, it's in your settings, but I'm not sure where.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.
From the Library folder, move the entire contents of the subfolder Caches (not the folder itself) to the Trash, then log out and log back in. Empty the Trash. Test.
If the problem is not solved, open the Library folder again in the same way and move the entire contents of the subfolder Preferences (not the folder itself) to a new folder on the Desktop (not to the Trash.) Log out and log back in. The account will then be pretty much in a clean state. Test. If you can still reproduce the problem, then put the Preferences folder contents back, replacing any that were created in their place, log out, and log in again.
If you can't reproduce the problem in the clean state, then start putting things back in the Preferences folder piecemeal, starting with items that seem unrelated to the issue. I can’t be more specific. After each group of items, repeat the log out/log in cycle and test. At some point, the problem may reappear, in which case you know that something in the last batch of files you restored is at fault. If it never reappears, the problem is solved.
This may be a very time-consuming process, but it’s the best I can suggest in the circumstances. -
I just installed iTunes on my computer, where I already have all my music. I went to Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and changed the iTunes Media Folder Location to where I have all my music, in the "Local Disk." But iTunes wont import all my music. Help?
Have you looked in the Music App on your iPhone? On the iPhone music is played by the Music App not iTunes.

System Preference Icons have changed
Hi
The Speech and Startup disc Icons in my system preferences pane have changed to something like a switch.
The other accounts on the same mac have no such problems.
Any suggestions?
THanks
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.5)Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter ~/Library/Caches/ as the folder's path. Once this folder has appeared, locate the com.apple.preferencepanes.cache item and drag it to the desktop. Open System Preferences again. Mac OS X 10.4 does not create or use any items starting with LS or .LS in the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder.

Mobile Safari changes '#' from a link in Mail to '%'
When I press a link from Mail that contains the '#' character, Safari changes it to a '%'. This causes grief as some sites don't load as expected.
Did you set Firefox as default browser at Prefences -> Default Browser of Safari side as well?

Preference status not changed for the processed products
Hello All,
While Aggregating the vendor declaration, I am getting the message as below
Preference status not changed for the processed products
Could you please help me to resolve this issue.
Thanks & Regards
RahulHello Rahul,
aggregation is not changing status on LTVD. (Possibly LTVD has been already agregated). Newly maintained LTVD is not changing status of the product, its remaining negative whatsoever.

Safari changes my website request to random product sale sites.
Every time I try to load http://www.retrievertraining.net/forums/, Safari changes the address to various other websites. This site is one I have used regularly for years on all my computers. The problem only exists on my imac. This is an example of one of the sites it sends me to http://www.apartmentfinder.com/search.aspx?ecid=PS%7CADM%7C21189S114209140
I have tried dumping casche and resetting Safari to no avail. The site works fine on my other computers.
HelpHi
Since you said - the site works ok on other computers... and you've reset Safari, presumably including removing cookies?... I'd think it unlikely on that evidence, that the site has been hacked.
Whilst hacks to websites do & will happen, and result in page redirects, or rogue/spammy pages being served up - if they're not gonna be noticed right away by the site owners, they do need to be either randomish, or meet some pre-determined criteria ( like say, if the visitor has come from google, and was searching for xyz's , and even then, perhaps the 'hacked' site might only redirect every one in ten requests )
or yes, if the visitor has some identifier, like a cookie or 3rd party plugin, or is from a particular country or isp... something which would let 'em know to redirect your computer, and not mine. Or it might be a bookmark you use, with some extra code in, although the http://www.retrievertraining.net/forums/ link you gave, is fine, and works normally from here too.
Have you checked to see what DNS the problem mac is using? -
How do you get to preferences in safari on ipad2
How do you get to preferences in safari on ipad2
Tap Settings / Safari.
Not the same as Safari for Mac but you can select your preferred search engine, select AutoFill, Bookmarks Bar... etc.
If you have problems with Safari for the iPad, click the History / Cookies and Cache. That usually helps. -
I was having trouble sending to hotmail accounts from my Earthlink account, they had me go into Mac Mail preferences and make changes (because they claimed it was Mac Mail's fault, even though the hotmail error code said it's because Earthlink is blocked by hotmail), now Mac Mail doesn't work AT ALL - any help changing the settings back to correct Mac Mail settings? I can provide a transcript of the entire tech chat session, if that will help...
both apostrophes are used correctly, thanks
doesn't = does not (this is called a contraction)
it's = it is
Mac Mail's fault = possessive
any help with the actual issue? thanks! -
Preferences icons have changed
Both my System and Home preferences icons have changed to that of a text editor which I recently downloaded but have not yet used. I was trouble-shooting an issue in which my desktop sounds were not happening; i.e., the Trash emptying made no sound, I had no start-up chimes and no sound of dragging and dropping a file. I have still not resolved that issue. Any answers would be welcome. But, the strangest thing is the fact that all my Preference files have this Smultron icon. I had simply put my Preference folder on the Desktop and then rebooted to see if the Desktop sounds would return. When they didn't, I replaced the Preferences folder and found that all my Preference files had this icon. The icon also shows on my System Preferences which I did not touch or move in this process. Any clues?
I am having the same problem but with an icon from a different editor, BBEdit. Both my System and Home preference icons have changed. I first noticed a problem when I returned to my computer, from which I had not logged out, after stepping away from it for a while. My mail looked funny; the font for the mailboxes had changed and the header type was not formatted in the usual fashion. I logged in as the admin and checked its preferences. All the preference icons for both the admin account and the system are as they should be, while logged in as admin. That makes me think it is a problem with my user account only. I went to the Cache folder in the Library in my user account and dumped the "com.apple.preferencepanes.cache" file (as someone had suggested in another, earlier discussion thread.) It straightened out my mail but did not help my preference icons. Feedback; suggestions; answers?

System preferences -- Network settings changed
When I go to System Preferences/Network, I get a pop-up message saying, "Your network settings have been changed by another application." I can't get rid of the pop-up and can't close the window My only alternative is to force quit.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what caused this and/or how to get rid of the pop-up message? I would be very grateful for any help.
The expert at my Mac store says he is familiar with the problem but has no answer for it.A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error
In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following:
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist
com.apple.nat.plist
You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting these files will cause them to be returned to defaults. -
Hi can anyone help me to get rid of Bing and all sorts of Adware on my macbook which arrive everytime I use Safari? I have changed the Safari preferences but Bing won't go away, and worse, it comes up with adverts. I also seem to be losing things I do want - like VLC player- its creepy
There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.
