Preferred inspection type

in qm view of mtrl master, there is one indicator "preferred inspection type" which is used to give precedence to the insp type for which this indicator is set over the default setting in SPRO (variant 01).this is what i know @ it.
but my que is if in qm view, i am assigning insp type 01,03,04,06,10,14.For all these they have diffn. insp lot origin.so what is the use of "preferred inspection type" indicator.
suppose i set that indicator for insp type 10 and i am doing MIGO for purchase order, lot with insp type 01 is going to generate anyhow and not with 10.
so what is use of "preferred inspection type" indicator.
is it only used within the insp types of same insp lot origin to give preference?
pls elaborate with example.
thnks

Sandip,
This preferred insp type is used only if you have 2 or more insp types created with the same origin.
Say for example you create two inspection types with similar parameters as '01' inspection type - say 11 and 12.
Now you set the insp types 11 and 12 in the material quality view. When you make 12 as preferred then when GR is done against Pur order the inspection type 12 will be taken,
Hope this clear.

  • Set preferred inspection type checkbox with mass processing

    Hi all,
I have a requirement for processing the "Preferred inspection type"-indicator in the QM-view of the mateiral master (Field APA from table RMQAM) with some kind of mass processing tool like for instance LSMW.
I have used QA08 for creating the inspection types in the materials, now i need to indicate the preferred inspection type which is not possible with QA08.
My issue is i do not see any standard objects in LSMW that can do this and i cannot find any standard MASS transactions which can help me.
    Please help!
    Kind regars,
    Dag

    It is possible with QA08.
In QA08, enter your criteria.  Then if you click on the tab Mass Processing, enter in the inspection type, then when you click on execute, the pop-up window of the settings comes up.  Here you can click on the preferred tick-box for the inspection type.  Once you do so, click the green check mark and you'll get a list of materials that met the criteria you enterred on the initial screen.  Select the ones you want to change, (or click on Select all icon), then click on Save icon.
Your materials should be updated with the preferred status.  No need for LSMW.

  • Selecting two preferred inspection type in MM02 (Ispection Setup)

    Hi all,
I got one probelm in MM02. In MM02 -> Quality Management -> Inspection setup we need to select two inspection type as preferred inspection type. But when we select both Z502 and Z504 inspection types it throw one error "Set 'Preferred inspection type' indicator for either insp. type Z504 or Z502". So we catn select.
Plese guide me to solve this problem.
    Regards,
    Mahi.

    Dear,
When the system creates an inspection lot automatically, it must determine which inspection type to use.
Depending on various system and Customizing settings, the system normally selects one of the following inspection types:
    Default inspection type or
    Preferred inspection type
For inspection lot origins 01, 03, 10, 11, 12, 14, the system may select an inspection type other than one of the above. Special rules apply for these inspection lot origins.
To ensure that the system can select a default inspection type or preferred inspection type, make sure the following conditions have been met:
You define the default inspection type in Customizing for Inspection Lot Origin by assigning an inspection type to variant 01 for the corresponding inspection lot origin. The system uses the default inspection type if this inspection type is active in the inspection settings of the material master.
Click on Inspection setup and make sure check box Preferred type selected for one of your inspection type.
In the Inspection settings of the material master, you can specify a preferred inspection type for each inspection lot origin. If you set the indicator Preferred inspection type for an inspection type, the system uses this inspection type to automatically create an inspection lot. This inspection type has priority over the default inspection type.
If you do not set the indicator for the preferred inspection type and several inspection types are active in the material master, the system uses the default inspection type.
If you set the indicator for the preferred inspection type, but the corresponding indicator for activating the inspection type is not set, the system uses the default inspection type.

  • Preferred Inspection Types

    Hello Experts:
I pose this scenario to help a colleague:
I understand the inspection types and activation requirement..
I understand the basic concept of "Preferred Types" during insp. type setup in MM01/02. All my reading here in                                                                the Forum, as well as some other good resources address "preferred types" but don't address this scenario.
So as a question I pose this scenario:
    I have an inspection plan:
I have 01 type activated it's checked preferred
I have 03 type activated it's checked preferred
All tick marks show the proper activations for those types
When the 03 Process Order was executed... the inspection lot was not auto created (...seperate origin). What's the reason for this?
I say it's because there are two preferred types in the same plan, and this is a nono. Even though they are from different origins.  Do you agree?
.... And to take that scenario one step farther, if there were two seperate insp. plans, with these two setting types
activated for the same material, and the lot still was not auto created for the 03 after PO creation.... why would you think this would be?
    I welcome your thoughts...
    V.

The preferred flags only impact within the inspection type.  Having the prefferred flag set for an 01 inspection type, and for an 03 inspection type should not be a problem.
As to why the 03 was not created:
1- in some systems, especially older ones, you must activate the 01 vairant of the inspection type.  I.e if you create an 01NEW inspection type, you must not only activate 01NEW but you must also activate inspection type 01.  I believe some newer SAP releases don't require this.
2 - you failed to create a new process order but instead, released a process order that had been created prior to your changes.  Try with a new process order that is not linked to anyhting like a sales order, (variant configuration for example).
3 - Try to manually create the inspection lot from within the process order and see if that works.

  • Inspection type 03 and 04

    hello Experts
I want to use inspection type 03 and 04 for produced materials. 03 for in-process inspection and 04 for Goods receipt inspection.
My Question is , do I need to use Preferred inspection type  indicator in QM view. Is there an issue if I do not use that indicator.
For insp type 03 lot should be created at order release and for 04 lot should be created at receiving the order.
    Many Thanks.

    Hi
    Gaurav
No Actually you nedd not to select the preffered Inspection type Indicator in QM view.....
Reason is as you said 03 is inprocess Inspection--->lot is created when production order is released.
this lot is not stock relevent.(no stock posting tab in QA11/QA32)
Now 04 is Production order-->lot is created when production order is confirmed.
    this lot is stock relevent.
So both are created at different stages so need not to worry.
I hope i have made you understand in simple language.

  • Inspection type problem

    Hi Sap Gurus,
I copied 01 inspection type to Z013 inspection type and followed the following procedure. But while posting MIGO inspection lot is not getting created and stock is updating in unresticted use stock. But same material with 01 inspection type inspection lot is getting created. I donot know where i did the mistake. Is there any setting in MM of this?
    Procedure followed:
    1) Assigned inspection type in material master with active key
In customization I maintained the following procedure
    1) Maintain task list usage - SPRO> QM> Quality Planning > Inspection Planning> General> Define task list usages
    2) Maintain inspection type - SPRO> QM> Quality Inspection > Inspection Lot Processing > Inspection Lot Creation > Maintain inspection types (for eg Z013) -  maintain the task list usage here
    3) Maintain Quality inspection lot origins and assign inspection types - SPRO> QM > Inspection Lot Processing > Inspection Lot Creation > Maintain inspection lot origins and assign inspection types
    4) Define default values for inspection type - SPRO > QM> Quality Inspection > Inspection Lot Processing > Inspection Lot Creation > Define default values for inspection type
    Regards
    Krishna

    Hi,
It has got nothing to do with the MM settings. Please try the following :
    1.Set Preferred Inspection Type
In the QM view of the Material Master, tick the Preferred Inspection Type Check box for Inspection   Type  Z013.
    2.Set Default Inspection Type
In Spro --> QM --> Q.Inspection --> Maintain Inspection Lot Origins and Assign Inspection Types. For Lot 01,Var 01 ( Default Inspection Type Variant 01 ) for the Z013 Inspection type you have created.
The reason behind this is that the system must determine which inspection type to use from -
    Default inspection type
    Preferred inspection type
If you set the indicator for the preferred inspection type, but the corresponding indicator for activating the inspection type is not set, the system uses the default inspection type
If the indicator for the preferred inspection type is not set and several inspection types are active in the material master, the system uses the default inspection type.
Besides this; cross check following points:
    1. Spro --> QM --> Q.Inspection --> Maintain Inspection Type : Exact copy of Inspection Type 01
    2. Spro --> QM --> Q.Inspection --> Maintain Inspection Lot Origins and Assign Inspection Types. Include Z013 in the Inspection types for the Origin 01
    3. Spro --> QM --> Q.Inspection --> Define Default value for inspection Type. Include Z013 as a copy of 01
    4. In spro --> QM --> QM in Logistic --> QM in Procurement -->Define control Key
Check the Control key which is assigned the QM view of MM.It should not have Control key as 9999 which has GR Inspection Control as "Do not create Inspection Lot"
    5. Check the Q- Info Record, check if due to Exisiting QM system is flagged for no Inspection
    6. Check for Self Certified QM systems assigned Q-Info Record in spro --> QM --> QM in Logistic --> QM in Procurement --> Define QM Systems  (Tick as Certified Systems requiring no Inspection)
    Hope this resolves,
    Thanks,
    RKM.

  • No inspection lot created for new inspection type created

    Hi all,
We create a new inspection type which is based on a copy-version of an existing inspection type. These inspection type has a inspection type origin of standard SAP 04 (i.e. Goods Receipt from Production).
Question 1 - we bumped into problem when come to testing in which when perform goods receipt, there is no inspection lot created, may I know why?
The following fields of this new inspection type are all checked; those not specified, are not flagged.
1 - Insp with task list (flagged); Automatic Assginment (flagged); Check Chars (flagged); Skip Allow(flagged); Automatic UD(flagged); Serial Number Poss (flagged).
Question 2 - for this kind of inspection type with origin 04, do i need to perform a goods receipt against a production order or purchasing order? How do I perform a GR against a production order?
    Thanks.

    Hi Tuffy,
Possibly you might not have ticked on preferred inspection type in material master. This could be one of the reasons. Try to do GR after ticking this.
The setting you have mentioned (flagged parameters)are seems to be correct. But lot generation is governed by preferred inspection type.
If you have assigned this newly customized inspection type to lot origin 04, then it would be used against production order and not the purchase order.
There are several ways to carry out GR against production order. It depends on the scenarios which you follow
    1.     MB31 101 movement
    2.     You may use backflush so while confirming order through CO11N auto GR is posted
    3.     In case of repetitive manufacturing scenario generally GR is done by MFBF transaction

  • Inspection type 08 not posting stock to QI

    Hi Friends ,
I have activated inspection type 01,08 for a material in the sending plant and 01,08 in receiving plant also for the same material . Now when we are creating sTO for the material , then in PO the stock type is "Unrestricted" , the lot is not getting generated for the material . We have to manually change the stock type in STO to QI to generate lot
NOTE : we are creating STO by considering plants as customers and vendors .So migo is against outbound delivery .
    Can anybody help ?

    Dear SAP PM
If the receiving material's QM view is having Inspection type 08, after that if the material receives any stock from other material it will go to quality stock only as per std SAP.
    Please check the below points
Active check box should be checked for 08 inspection type in insp setup of material master
Post to inspection stock should be checked
Check whether any other inspection types are assigned to 08 origin. If so check the preferred inspection type in material master.
Check whether the quality not active check box is checked for 309 movement type at SPRO > Quality Management > Quality Inspection > Inspection lot creation > Inspection for goods movements
Revert back in case of any queries

  • QM -INSPECTION TYPES 03 & 04

    Dear Friends
I want to inspect a semifinished product both in the inprocess stage & after the processing completion. Now in MMO1 I have to activate both 03 & 04 inspection types. Which inspection type I have to mark as preferred inspection type because during inprocess checking I have to mark 03 as the preferred inspection type and once inprocess checking is over I shall have to again go to MMO2 and change 04 as the preferred inspection type. Every now and then shall I have to frequently change the preferred inspection types between 03 & 04.Please guide.
    Selva

    Dear Selva
Let me explain to you in detail the business process and the relevance of 03 inspection 7 04 inspection
1)Suppose you have a product A and routing of this product A be like this
    0010 Forming > 0020 u2013 Winding > 0030 Testing > 0040 Assembling > 0050 Final Finishing
    2) In a normal production process suppose you have a production order of 100 for product A
    3) Now during the production process you need to confirm each operation through CO11N what was the yield, rework, scrap, activity time taken etc.
    4) Once all the operation are confirmed the production order is GRu2019ed and this product A goes to quality stock for 04 inspections. 04 inspections is always considered as Final inspection. 04 inspection is triggeref when  GR of the production order is done
    5) 0030 operation being a inprocess inspection in the above production process quality personnel doesnu2019t have any control over anything. That is wherer 03 inspection type helps a lot in having control over the confirmation process.
    6) By activating 03 inspection as the Production order is released inspection lot is created. quality personnel can do not only result recording but also confirmation of the quantity thereby giving him the control over the production quantity.
    7) Also quality personal can do the testing partially and record result multiple times and confirm partially
    8) Please note the partial quantity pop up which you get while result recording is just an information purpose recording. By entering any values it is not at all related to any quantity confirmation
9 ) To bring the confirmation pop up in QA32 you will have to do
    a) In Routing at Operation level maintain a QM work center ( testing ) with Control key QM04
    b) double click on the control key and go to Quality Management : Inspection points
    c) Maintain Inspection point completion : Quantity , Valuation and confirmation
10 ) For a better control over the 03 inspection these setting have to be defined in PP configuration for production order Type in Tcode OPK4 in config
SPRO > Production> Shop floor control> confirmation> define confirmation parameters
    Maintain
1)Operation sequence u2013 error when order sequence is not adhered to
    2) Overdeilvery u2013 Error when over delivery tolerance is exceeded
    3) Results Rec. (QM)- Error message if no Insp results exist
So what these setting helps is that
1)All operation has to be confirmed operation wise means 0010 has to be confirmed for confirming 0020 operation. SO production guys can only confirm 0040 operation only after 0030 operation is confimed by quality personal.
2)Overdeilvery is not allowed means of in 0030 operation if only 50 quantity is confirmed in 0040 operation only 50 can be confirmed. Production people cannot confirm more than 50 quantities
3)Also PP personal cannot confirm operation 0030 through C011N till the result recording of that operation is done through QA32.
Hope this gives a good idea of 03 inspection
Please let me know if you have any further clarification required
    Regards

  • Inspection type assignment

    Hi All,
I am  an MM consultant, i am trying to learn QM, I want  to know if there are one more than one inspection types assigned for inspection lot origin, then which inspection type the system will  pick up while creating automatic inspection lots
    Thanks in advance
    regards
    Venkat.

    Hi
You can use Variant of The Inspection Lot Origin to assign several inspection types to one inspection lot origin.
A variant 01 must exist for each inspection lot origin. The system then always chooses the inspection type defined as variant 01, if no control specifies another inspection type.
You can choose another inspection type as the preferred inspection type if you do not want to use the inspection type specified as variant 01 for the inspection lot origin. This is done in the inspection setup of the material master (quality management view).
The system can use the following special controls to select an alternative inspection type:
Inspection lot origin 01 (goods receipt for a purchase order)
a.Inspection type based on the status of the supply relationship
b.Inspection type for a source inspection based on the info record for the
              supply relationship.
c.Inspection type for an inspection during external processing based on the
external processing data in the task list or order operation.
Inspection lot origins 03, 13, 14 (production or plant maintenance)
Inspection type from the order type
    Inspection lot origins 10, 11, 12 (shipping)
Inspection type dependent on the delivery category
If the required inspection type is not active, an inspection lot is not created.
Path for creating Variant of The Inspection Lot Origin :
<i><b>SPRO --> QM -> Qulatiy inspection --> Inspection lot creation --> Maintain Inspection Lot Origins and Assign Inspection Types</b></i>
In this node select the inspection lot Origin and go to Inspection types for the origin, where you can define Variant.

  • Inspection Type

    Hi All,
I am using T.Code QA08 for inspection Type of material upload.
Initially i give plant, material and then press Mass processing tab and then check Activate Despite insp stock check box and will give insp. type.then i will be taken to next screen where i have to check Preferred Insp. Type check box and then save. i wrote a BDC program for the above and it works fine in Foreground and in Error only mode but not in Background. In background mode it displays Error as No Batch Input data for the screen SAPMSSY0 0120.
Please suggest me how to rectify this

    Hi Kumar,
Were you able to run BDC in background for QA08 ?
What solution did you provide to client finally ?

This preferred insp type is used only if you have 2 or more insp types created with the same origin.

  • How to maintain inspection type at the time of material creation using LSMW

    Hi All,
    I have a differnet Issue.
I am using a std. LSMW to create the materials.
But now using same LSMW i have to maintain Inspection types(ART-RMQAM) for the materials to be created.
    How this can be done.
This filed is not found in any structures like BGR....to  BMMH8
    Can I create such a structure ??

Some need the hard answer: it is not possible in one go.
It is an embedded functionality in material master like classification, but it is not stored in a material master table.

  • Link of material movement with inspection type

    Hello Masters,
I have scenario where component at shop floor will be segregated for inspection. The requirement is to do result/defect recording for those parts and if required then those parts need to be scrapped. So one way of doing that can be to move those parts to either blocked stock or QI stock (ideal option) or to specific storage location so that planning can be taken care of (if material are still in unrestricted then planning will consider those part as OK part and planning may fail). And to record result/defect we require inspection lot, which can be created by using above mentioned material movement.
But problem is how to create inspection lot so that we can do result/defect recording for those materials and scrap those material.
Please note that material master will have QM setup active (inspection type 01 - Goods Receipt Insp. for Purchase Order) and hence we can move material from unrestricted stock to QI stock only through QM.
I am not sure if we should use inspection type 08 - Stock transfer inspection, as there can be many instances of material transfer within plant. And with inspection type 08 active, system will create inspection lot every time there is any material transfer.
One way can be to create new goods movement only for this kind of transfer and new inspection type and link both together. So that when ever material is transferred using that particular goods movement, system creates inspection lot as well as material will be in QI stock. But I am not sure how this is possible or not and if yes then how this can be done.
I know query was too long to read and I think I was clear enough to explain what the requirement is.
It would be great if I can get some guidance from you masters at the earliest convenience as it is bit of importance.
    Thanks and regards,
    Devang

    Hi Devang,
I guess this is Line rejection scenario. Correct me if understanding goes wrong. You have okayed the material against 01 inspection lot and UD has been given. Now you find this material defective on shop floor.
I think the 2nd option suggested by marwadi sounds better. I suggest one more possibility, just check whether feasible.
    1.     Create quality notification Q2 type through QM01. While creating you can give references of original PO and material document, which fetch vendor name and material code automatically.
    2.     Record defects and all other required information in notification.
    3.     After this, you find an option in action box, transfer post unrestricted - >block . Click there. This will transfer the stock from unrestricted to block.
    4.     If you want planning persons should not consider this stock as OK, remove block stock from MRP stock availability check. As a result of which stock lying in block will not be considered as available stock.
    5.     From block stock you can send this material back to vendor through MIGO. Otherwise you can create return delivery from notification through action box also. Check what is feasible in your case.
Here you need not create inspection lot, no need to use any user exit.

    Anand Rao
