Preferred languages and Spotlight
I'm having a problem with Spotlight since Tiger. I have the OS and most applications in Spanish, but I prefer to have the few ones that are translated into Galician in that language, so my language preferences list is Galician, Spanish and English. The thing is that, if Spotlight doesn't find localized applications or files with a localization into Galician, it automatically skips to English, ignoring that Spanish is the second language of my list.
Anybody knows how to solve this issue?
Thanks!
Hi Tomas
Unfortunately I can't answer your first question, because we still work with an older version than 10g.
But for hiding portlets we use a quite simple workaround that should work in your version as well:
We define a default user group for each language so that their members are automatically routed to the entry page of their basic language.
Furthermore we use footer links with direct access to the corresponding application in the other languages (hard coded links to the entry point of the application).
I admit frankly that this isn't the most elegant solution, but it works and is quite easy to be implemented!
For the above solution, of course, you need one application per language with separate components for each language!
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Peter

Why when I set up my Country or Region on my iPhone 5, the default language of the phone is the country's and not the one I selected when I set up my preferred language?
Go to Settings/General/Reset and choose Reset All Content and Settings. This will erase everything on the iPhone and allow you to set it up again as new with the proper Apple ID.

Multiple preferred languages in my Profile (or uns...
A great feature in ones personal "Profile" would be to allow for adding languages.
If needed, one could still be "preferred" (and the rest alternatives).
I understand that the extra fields (in your database) and extra programming effort can be a reason not to implement this, but then at least allow people to opt out of having to specify a single specific language (and select "other" or "multiple").
If you do implement this, please consider adding a way to indicate the proficiency for each language.Good news, everybody who has the same problem.
Today I finally got it fixed and confirmations on my 3 newly registered workshops were sent to my Apple ID email address and my profile on the Apple Concierge page finally got the outdated email address removed and replaced.
Weeks after the iTune Apple Support Team told me they were not able to find my outdated email address in their system and that I had to talk to people at Apple Store, I finally got some one in the store who took what the iTune Apple Support Team said seriously and agreed to get a technician look into THEIR workshop registration system . She said it would get fixed but not immediately.
From then on, each time when I registered for a workshop, I kept attaching a note in the "comment" box telling them they were keeping and using my outdated email address, which is no longer in my Apple ID profile, and requested that old email address be removed from their system and confirmations be sent to one of the email address in my Apple ID.
At the same time, I put a block to all emails from Apple Concierge in my outdated
email address so that each time they sent a workshop confirmation to that address, they got a bounce from Mailer-DAEMON, which reminded them to check my profile in their system.
About a month today, the problem is solved - my heartfelt thanks to the Apple workshop instructor/manager Vivian at Oakridge Center, Vancouver, who took my complaint seriously, and the technician who looked into the problem and got it fixed.
So, guys, just be patient and persistent. And best of luck! -
After changing the System's Preferred Language to FRANCAIS, then back again to BRITISH ENGLISH, I've found that the FLAGS menu of MAIL.APP will not change back to ENGLISH.
e.g.
- I change the Preferred Language setting to FRANCAIS,
- I restart Mail.app.
- I change the Preferred Language setting to BRITISH ENGLISH
- I restart Mail.app.
The Flags menu is still in FRANCAIS. Every other menu is using the correct language
- I then change the Preferred Language to ESPANOL
- I restart Mail.app
- I change the Preferred Language setting to BRITISH ENGLISH
The Flags Menu is now in ESPANOL.
It seems I can change the FLAGS menu to anything other than ENGLISH or BRITISH ENGLISH.
Rebooting between changes and/or leaving Mail.app open or closed seems to make no difference.
It's quite annoying as I make extensive use of keyboard shortcuts to flag emails....!
Any clues?I should point out that every other menu is changing correctly to reflect the Preferred Language. It is just the FLAGS menu that is not changing to english.

I've chosen Galician as my preferred language in iOS8. Since the iPhone is not translated to Galician, only the apps which are translated into Galician show up in that language, but the UI shows in Spanish (the second preferred language). Or should it be like that, because some apps (Twitter, Telegram, even the App Store) which have an Spanish translation show up in English. The App Store is even buggier because its fine on my iPad and it used to be OK on my iPhone with these settings, but suddenly it switched to English only in the iPhone. No matter how many times I force quit or reboot the iPhone, wrong language is displayed in some apps.
I think correct behavior is for apps to use the 2nd language on the list, if they do not have the first but do have the 2nd. I don't know why some app would do otherwise.

Default keyboard language and MacOS system language
After I set default keyboard language to English it is automatically applied by macOS as a default language for the whole system. Is there a way to set English as a default language only for the keyboard, but at the same time set Ukrainian to be a default system language?
Alex_Pros wrote:
I want keyboard to open with English as a default language
I assume you need to have both US and Ukrainian on the list at system preferences/keyboard/input sources, right?
Try removing Ukrainian from this list, restarting (which should give you US as default), and then adding Ukrainian again.
If that doesn't work, try going to system preferences/language & region and using the plus button to make some language below the line (for which nothing is localized) like Afrikaans the preferred language, with Ukrainian second. This should keep US as the default keyboard and Ukrainian as the OS language. -
Question on preferred language errors in logfile
Hi,
running ICS 5.1.1 plain on Solaris 9. In the http.log file I see hundreds if not thousands of warnings/errors like:
[21/Dec/2004:10:01:16 +0100] <nodename> cshttpd[29477]: General Notice: User <username>: Preferred language (nl) can not be found. Use English instead.
Is this 'Preferred language' setting derived from the user's LDAP entry attribute 'preferredLanguage: nl'?
And if so, what can I do to prevent this error from showing up? AFAIK the 'preferredLanguage' setting is shared between various applications like the webmail interface and possibly other site-specific applications. So just changing the preferredlanguage value seems to be not an option.

How can event reminders be delivered in a user's preferred language?
Can the event reminder function of iPlanet Calendar Server(iCS) 2.1 P1 be
configured to send reminders in a user's preferred language if the language is
not English (e.g., French, Italian, or German)?
<P>
In iCS 2.1 P1, there is a server parameter in the server.conf
file called
caldb.smtpmsgfmtdir for
configuring the email notification tag lines. Setting the
caldb.smtpmsgfmtdir
parameter indicates which locale iCS will use for email messages. The default
value is "en," or English.
<P>
Unlike the user interface, iCS 2.1 does not automatically attempt to change
the locale on a per-user basis. A future release of iCS will address this
issue of automatically changing the locale on a per-user basis.Hi,
All you need to do is to create the condition in the discoverer instead of in the query.
Create a custom folder containing the following sq (note that i removed the condition)l:
SELECT s.segment1 vendor_number
,s.vendor_name
,flv1.meaning classification
,pca.certificate_number
,pca.certifying_agency
,pca.expiration_date
,flv2.meaning status
FROM ap_suppliers s
,pos_bus_class_attr pca
,fnd_lookup_values flv1
,fnd_lookup_values flv2
WHERE pca.vendor_id = s.vendor_id
AND flv1.lookup_code = pca.lookup_code
AND flv1.lookup_type = pca.lookup_type
AND flv2.lookup_code = pca.class_status
AND flv2.lookup_type = 'POS_BUS_CLASS_STATUSES'
Then create a discoverer report using this folder using all fields.
Create a new calculation as (use this exact syntax):
Sysdate + :No_of_Days_in_the_Future
Create a new condition:
pca.expiration_date <= <your calculation>
To complete it add a sort as you did in the SQL.
That's it.

Support for this procedure was withdrawn in SPS 5. See the following release note:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/2f50dcc0750b18e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm
I am afraid that does not fix your problem, but at least you know why it does not work. I am disappointed to see the procedure still available on the Help Portal, though it does not appear in the structure in the navigation pane at least.

How can I change the preferred language of my online account?
By mistake, my "region" upon sign up was set to Japan (my employer did this, since I live in Japan), but I am American & don't speak Japanese.
Based on a few Google searches, it seems like I have to delete my account & sign up again in order to change the region.
I'm hoping that's outdated information. But if that's indeed the only remedy, how inconvenient for everyone involved! You can not change your country region by yourself.

Standard C++ Libraries Out of Range
