Preflight Droplet asks to install Rosetta!???

Hi,
Does anyone knows why Acrobat 9.3.4 Pro is asking me to install Rosetta on a Mac mini 2010 with Mac OS 10.6.4?
In Acrobat I created a new preflight profile and afterwards a droplet on my desktop for this profile.
The weird thing is that, as soon as I drop a pdf file on the icon, Mac OS asks me to install ‘Rosetta'.
Newest computer, newest OS and CS5. What is Rosetta doning here, I wonder?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Johny

You may want to consider FlightCheck v6.75 which can preflight PDF files and the native source files alike (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, etc, etc). Since it is a desktop app, there is no need to create a droplet or the likes. Just download the 30-day demo, drag-and-drop your PDF, .INDD, .AI, .PS, .JPG, etc documents onto the FlightCheck icon and get an easy to understand preflight report.
You will want to maybe select one of the many preset PDF Preflight Profiles, which we call Ground Control sets or edit one to suit your quality assurance needs.
The beauty of FlightCheck is you do not need Acrobat or any of the native applications open or even on your machine. It is a stand-alone application.
For the record, as Peter has reminded me in the past, I come from the Markzware stables, the makers of FlightCheck and many other Creative Suite conversion tools. Acrobat postflight feature can be great, but FlightCheck is a true preflight work-horse across publishing and printing file formats.

Somehow lost my ability to login as administrator when i was trying to set up Parental Controls. Now it does not recognize my administrator name or password. When I try to reset my password by reinstalling MacOSX, it tells me I have to first install Rosetta. When I say yes, it asks for my administrator name and password!  ARG!  Help please!

  • Preflight droplet process returns too early – before it's done

I'm calling an Acrobat preflight DROPLET from program that I'm writing, and I need to know when the files are ready, that is when the preflight fixups are done.
I need to know this in order to go on with some other file system stuff in my program, that needs to be done after the preflight fixups.
I guess the droplet just tells Acrobat what to do, and then exits. The Droplet process stays up for a while but exits before the work is done.
There is an question from 2009 asking the exact same thing, but no answer.  Preflight droplet returns too early
Since it's in a locked section of the forum I venture to ask the same question now, six years later.
Checking the modified dates of all files does not seem to work since a preflight obviously does not alter files that are not in need of being altered.
I'm on windows, and I don't know whether this is a platform dependent problem.
    What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Andreas

This is not a good way to do it. But this is the way I do it now...
It seems to work but there is no guarantee that it will work in the future, or even on all machines.
    private static int WaitForAcrobatReady() {
// Get the current Acrobat instance.
      var app = new Acrobat.AcroApp();
// While a preflight (droplet) is running, app.GetNumAVDocs() will
// not return ANYTHING, it will just hang.
      return app.GetNumAVDocs();
To sum up the efforts of the last weeks: Acrobat doesn't seem to be made for inclusion in other automation jobs. This is just another thing that doesn't work.
(I had to use the C# library PDFSharp to do other things that Acrobat can do really well only that it's not possible to set those properties, or start that kind of actions, from "outside".)

  • Old Printer file wants to install Rosetta

After I log in, a window opens and tells me that "HP IO Classic Proxy" needs to open Rosetta. I tell it no, but it does it every time. I no longer use a Hewlett-Packard printer, and I do not want to install Rosetta.
I have moved the following files/folders to the trash (but not emptied yet):
    com.hp.softwareupdate.plist
    Hewlett-Packard Preference
    hp
    HP Registry
Is is OK to empty the trash without upsetting anything? Will that fix the problem? If not, what will?

    Thank you
This was also useful for me as I had a dialogue box appearing when I booted up asking me if i wanted to install rosetta for an application called "Fax Server". It is great to get rid of it.Ta very much.

  • Installing Rosetta via command line?

Is it possible to install Rosetta via the command line? I have a mac that I have ssh and administrative access to and need to install rosetta to run an application. I know that Rosetta can be installed over the internet when using the GUI interface to the OS, but can this be done using the command line?
    Thanks!

I think what you are asking is not possible. If you did not install Rosetta you have two options, download from the web usually initiated by a program that needs it to run, or from your original install DVD --> Optional Installs package.

  • I just installed 10.2.2. When I tried to start iTunes, I got the message that Rosetta needed to be installed to open iTunes. It downloaded and installed Rosetta but iTunes will not open and it no longer has the iTunes icon. What do I do now?

I installed iTunes 10.2.2. When I tried to open it, I got the message that iTunes needs to install Rosetta to open. It then appeared to download and and install Rosetta. When I try to open iTunes, the icon bounces but iTunes does not open. The icon has also changed from the usual iTunes icon. What do I do now?

I have a 2010 MBP15 which I do not use as much as my pc. When I do, I check for updates and I believe I updated iTunes to 10.2.2 a week or so ago. Since I still use iTunes primarily on my pc, I didn't bother firing up the updated iTunes on the mac.
Last week, when I actually started iTunes on the mac, I got the message that Rosetta needed to be installed. Like abefighter I stalled. I surfed the net, read this thread to get some hints as to w** was going on.
When I checked the system profile in the mac, I think it showed PowerPC for 'kind.' Surfing the Internet I found out Rosetta was something needed to help applications work on PowerPCs. But wait, since this MBP is an Intel, why would or should it be asking me for some stone-age plug-in that was never mentioned in all the previous updates for iTunes until now? Fyi, the iTunes icon on the dock had changed to what I think is an AppleWorks icon.
So, I assumed that the update that resulted in my mac was corrupted. At first I scoured for 10.2.1, thinking that the last version was a dud, but in vain, nowhere to be found. I gave up and settled for a fresh 10.2.2. I did a casual delete, without touching any of the related personal preference files in my folder and it now which works fine. I'm glad I didn't jump to install Rosetta; I read elsewhere about someone who actually went through with the Rosetta install that resulted unhappily.
Unless the mac in question is a PowerPC, I would doubt the need for Rosetta installation.

  • Google talk video plugin does not work any more with Firefox 4. When clicking on the video chat icon, I am repeatedly asked to install the plugin, and it never works.

Google talk audio/video plugin used to work fine on Firefox 3, but does not work anymore on Firefox 4. Every time I click on the video chat icon on google talk, I am asked to install the plugin, even if I have already installed it before. The plugin works properly on the latest version of IE on the same PC.
Thanks for your help. I do not want to switch to Chrome or Opera, but if this bug is not fixed, I will have to.

Not sure if installing IE 9 did it or not but I now see the camera in IE, FF and Chrome. Could be Facebook fixed the problem also.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Why is 8.0 asking to install when I have a newer version

I use a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop with Windows 7 OS.  I have the newest version of Adobe Reader installed and working properly.  However, every time I start up, I am asked to install Adobe 8.0 but the installation fails because I have the newer version.  How do I stop this start-up request and why does it happen?

I have now checked the start up folder and it is not there.  According to the screen that asks if I want to allow Adobe Reader 8 to make changes to my computer, it's located at c:\users\%username%\AppData\Local Low\Netopsystems\temp\Reader 8.0\setup.exe.  However, when I check for that in Total Commader, it's not there.

  • Was asked to install Oracle Java 8 and now after LibreOffice asked for Apple Java 6

    Hello,
a few weeks ago I was told by a webpage I need java, it was a movie site, so I was doubting it and so I went to the oracle page via google search and found Java 8 (jre 8u40-macosx-x64).
Today I installed LibreOffice and after first opening ittold me, that I need Java 6 and asked, if I want to search for it. I let it search. There was not the usual browser window -like thing (which I guess is the App-store, where I am offered to upgrade to 10.10 for free and told that there are 4 incompatible updates for iLife products available). Instead it was just a small progress-bar window that had the title "apple software update" (or similar).
I then quit it, because it was not making progress.
Now I close LibreOffice and then thought "well lets install Java 6", but this time I was not asked to install it. Also "apple software update" doesn't offer it, when I launch the blue "A"-icon (i.e. Appstore?).
What do I need? Should I delete Java 8? How do I get Java 6?
I found this, but it doesn't help me: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/webnotes/install/mac/mac-preferences.html and Apple Java Vs Oracle Java? Do I need both?
    THANKS!!!
    Machine: Mac Mini 2012, 10.9.5

Thank you! In the meantime I found that item labeled as "2014-001" on the apple.support page.
It mentions that it will remove all Java web applet and that there was a certain button one has to push to install it. I don't find the button "missing plugin" (well maybe that will come once it is needed?)
Can Apple J6 and Oracle J8 coexist?
From the fact that apple's J misses the web applet, I guess they will complement each other right?
Also, am I right, that, if I go to Safari/Firefox -> Security I can disable Java for web stuff (but it will be still intact for Java applications like LibreOffice) and once I will encounter a webpage that wants Java, I will be told and can activate it in Safari/Firefox -> Security ? (Since I guess it is better to disable Java on the web???)
Will the web sites always tell me, if they need Java or will pages not work and I will wonder why?

I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook 10.6.7 but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive.  I have an external WD hard-drive, and I was wondering if it is possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my Mac?

I think you're confused about how much hard drive space you have.  You probably have 2 GB of RAM...  there hasn't been a Mac shipped with only a 2 GB hard drive in a while.  At the bottom of any Finder window, how much space is available?
If you're actually running low on space, you should move documents to the external drive, since many applications want to be on the system drive.

  • Acrobat Professional Windows 9.1.3 Crashing in Preflight Droplet

    Hi,
I created a preflight droplet using Acrobat Professional 9.1.3 in Windows XP SP2 and when I run the droplet I'm getting the message "DDEHandler unhandeled exception caught!". This message appears in every scenario I tried:
      - Acrobat running before the file is dropped in the droplet icon
      - Acrobat not running before the file is dropped in the droplet icon
      - Acrobat running before I started the droplet in the command-line
      - Acrobat not running before I started the droplet in the command-line
Eve scenario was tried with a pre-built profile and a custom profile. Nothing works!!!!
If I run the same preflight profile normally in Acrobat (not as droplet), the preflight runs ok, with no error.
    Any clue?
It's a trial Acrobat Pro. I'm planning to buy a license if the preflight works...
I just downloaded Acrobat Pro for Mac and I found a very similar crash (of course, with a different error message but with the same conditions) and there's a thread opened in Acrobat Mac forum since February with no solution from Adobe. I'll look for a competitive solution, it seems Adobe isn't interested in provide a decent solution.
The Acrobat's preflight tool is made by a german company, Callas Software, and this company sells similar preflight products (with additional functions and higher prices). Callas' products work very fine in Mac and in PC.
If you need a scriptable preflight, please forget Adobe Pro 9....
    Best regards,
    Lorenzo

http://forums.adobe.com/message/2907499#2907499 – as you say the same error occurs in OS X. Here is the corresponding mac-thread with a bit more information (applying both to Windows and OS X). Note that despite the error Acrobat DOES perform the preflight, but has to be restarted after.
It is an issue with Acrobat 9, and the possible (not very good) workarounds can be summarised as:
    Use Acrobat 8 instead
Check the box for making a summary PDF
    Do not generate detailed reports
If you are scripting etc. you might also find a way that automates restarting Acrobat after each preflight (yay...) or that closes the summary PDF created after each preflight (if that options is used).
And yeah, I do hope Adobe fixes it as Acrobat does have a whole lot of powerful preflight/fixup tools built in and it's a shame the droplets are broken.

  • ITunes says it needs to install rosetta

All of the sudden, iTunes won't launch and Software Update says it needs to install Rosetta.  Never had to do that before.  Anyone know what's going on?  Could this be an issue created from the most recent update?

Instead of trying to update iTunes +from within iTunes+, go to Apple's page where you can download the iTunes 8.2.1 installation file -- save the file, don't run it direct from the download. Once downloaded to your computer, then run the installation file.
If that does not fix the problem, then remove the following software from your computer (you won't lose your music): iTunes, Quicktime, and something called "Apple Mobile Device Services". Once you remove those programs, then run the iTunes installer file (from above) again. That will install all three of these programs and should fix your problem.

  • Acrobat 9 Preflight Droplet Missing Overview Info from Results

When I open a PDF with Acrobat 9 and run a preflight on it there is an "Overview" displayed in the results.
