Preflight issue with Acrobat Pro X 10.1
I've been a consistent user of the preflight flatten fields and forms function present in Acrobat 8 up. Once I upgraded to Acrobat Pro X, I've been unable to get this to flatten the document correctly. It throws out all the comments and modifications that were meant to be flattened and re-saves the file without the comments.
In short, it doesn't work.
I have tried it on multiple computers, all 64 bit windows 7, Acrobat version 10.1.
Any thoughts?
I have been able to do this with ghostscript so there is not a problem with the PDF.
Method for Testing:
1) Create a PDF
2) Place a Comment on PDF
3) Preflight - Flatten forms and annotations
4) Save the File
5) Open the file and see if the comment (or stamp) had been embedded.
Shawn Way
It's working fine on our test systems, haven't seen any other logged bugs about that feature in the 10.1 cycle but if you have a file that won't flatten which you can share with me, I'll run some tests. PM me a link or your contact details if the file can't be posted via a public URL.
Preflight for flattening is one way to do it, but a little fiddly given it's only calling a regular (non-Preflight) command on the file. You could pop open a console (CTRL-J) and type
flattenPages()
then press ENTER,
or you could use the free widget I wrote a while back to selectively flatten the things you want.

Continuing Leopard Issues with Acrobat Pro
So after patiently waiting for Leopard update and installing it, I'm still having the same Distiller crash when trying to print to PDF. Is anyone else still having problems after this update? There's little weird about the machine - MBP Intel with 10.5.1 - and I'm up to round 4 with Adobe support on this.
I was having the crash issue with Acrobat Professional 8 right after I upgraded to CS3 in 2007 and prior to loading Leopard recently. Calling Adobe did not help in fixing the problem (they just had me reinstall the software). The support staff didn't find/look for the Technote I finally found: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333592
When I upgraded to Leopard yesterday, I started making sure I had the latest updates for my CS3 suite and had to turn the updater.acroplugin plugin back on to install the updates. I was hoping the updates would have fixed the problem, but it didn't. Soon as I "unchecked" the acroplugin, Acrobat worked fine again in Leopard. -
Updated to 10.3.9- Issues with Acrobate Pro & Quark
Updated to OS 10.3.9, Updated Acrobate 6 to Acrobate Pro 6.0.6 (several steps) now Acrobate will not make PDFs & Quark will not Export as PDF.
Any help greatly appreciated.Hi Tallman,
After the upgrade to 10.3.9 did you fix the permissions? If not I suggest you do that first.
1. Delete Quark and Acrobat preference files which will be found in users/username/library/preferences/Quark .... and users/username/library/preferences/acrobat
Acrobat preference files may also be found (if you are the only user account and admin) in mac HD/Library/preferences/acrobat
2. Make sure to update any Quark versions ie 6.5 from 6.1 and Acrobat 6.x (also look at distiller updater too - I think distiller had a patch to 6.2 or 6.4
3. Fix permissions after any updates.
If memory serves Acrobat 7 was much better with system 10.3.9 -
Outlook Quick Print no longer works with Acrobat Pro v11
Hi All,
Prior to installing Acrobat Pro v11 on a Remote Desktop Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) we were able to use the Quick Print function for attachments within Outlook (Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit), although the default printer was physical printer the application would always open with Acrobat Pro even after disabling it as a default application. Upon uninstalling Acrobat Pro v11 the issue no longer occurs and the quick print fuction has been restored to normal.
If there is a known technical solution it would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,rgrosz789, thank you for your suggestion.
Your code worked but caused run time error at the following line as below.
Sub Test()
'Dim app As CAcroApp
Dim app As Object
Set app = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
app.Show 'Raises run time error
End Sub
I finally uninstalled Acrobat Pro 9, reinstalled it, then, my original program worked fine.
Something must have gone wrong in Acrobat 9 :-) -
I cannot open a .pdf in an incoming mail (Outlook 2010) with Acrobat Pro XI. It will only allow "preview". I have to copy and paste the .pdf to my desktop and then open it. What do I do to restore the 2x click in Outlook to open the .pdf? As of now, I get the following bracket opening on screen when I click on the Acrobat icon for attachment within the email: Thank you

C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txtHi Gary,
I have seen this issue occur with users who have this registry setting missing or have improper permissions.
When you double click the attachment to launch the pdf it is saved and opened from the temporary folder unless saved specifically to a location.
If you dont have the below mentioned registry key or improper permissions then attachments fail to open.
Please heck if the following reg key exists:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
Value Name: OutlookSecureTempFolder
If the value exists, and if the value contains a valid path, Outlook 2010 uses that location for its temporary files.
If the registry value does not exist, or if the value points to an invalid location, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2003 creates a new subdirectory under the Temporary Internet Files directory and then puts the temporary file in the new subdirectory. The name of the new subdirectory is unknown and is randomly generated, depending on your version of Outlook.
Please check the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
Note the location for: OutlookSecureTempFolder key
Check if the same folder exists in the following location and if not create a corresponding folder in the location on C:\Users\<User account name>\Appdata\Local\Software\Microsoft\Windows\......

I can't use thunderbird 31.2.0 to send attachement from a pdf file with Acrobat PRO XI
I can't use thunderbird 31.2.0 (Mozilla) to send attachement from a pdf file with Acrobat PRO XI. Each time, Acrobat replies (in french) : "il n'y a pas de client pour la messagerie par défaut". Thunderbird is indicated as "by default" in the list of programs of Windows.
Even if I type my e-mail address, etc. in the account of Acrobat, it doesn't change. Each time, I have to record a PDF file in a folder and return to Thunderbird to send it as attached. It is a too long process, compared with Windows XP with Acrobat Reader or Acrobat 5, I had before.
Would you please help me to explain the process. My OS is Windows 8.1.
Thank youThank you for your answer.
What i want to do : to send PDF files as attached documents in a message
generated by thunderbird by my e-mail address [email protected] or
another one I have.
When I introduce my e-mail address under Edit-Preferences-Email
Accounts, Acrobat ask the e-mail account, the password, the IMAP for
ingoing message (and I use POP) and SMTP for outgoing messages. Even I
introduce all the datas, it doesn't change, Acrobat is unable to send
the message. And the process is not convenient, because I need all my
outgoing messages be documented inside Thunderbird.
So, I repeat my request : how can I use thenderbird as program by
default from Acrobat or any other software ?
Thank you for your next message.

Created Menu in JS in Acrobat 9.2 & Issue with Acrobat 9.4.4
I originally created this Javascript on Acrobat
7.0 because there was not a means for me to
convert a pdf to jpeg.
When I updated to Acrobat 9.2, the following javascript that I have been using until I have acrobat 9.4.4.
// mystuff.js - Adobe Acrobat custom menu addition
app.addMenuItem({ cName: "SaveToJPEG", cParent: "File", nPos: 0,
cExec: "this.saveAs('/c/football/JPEG Folder/Rept.jpeg', 'com.adobe.acrobat.jpeg')" });
// End of media.js
In Acrobat 9.4.4 I have the problem of creating this jpeg now.
I see this issue with Acrobat 9.4.4 on Win XP Sp2 (or Sp3 if its the latest), and on Win 7 (64-bits) pro.
I believe there is now "Save As" menu option that will allow me to save a file to jpg now.
I manually tried this using the tool bar and its all works.
I call this operation using MS Access VBA code. This is part of the VBA colde that I used:
Path = pdfFile & T![DirName]
pptFile = Left(T![DirName], Len(T![DirName]) - 4) & ".ppt"
Set gApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
Set AVDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDOC")
If (AVDoc.Open(Path, Path)) Then
Set AVPageView = AVDoc.GetAVPageView
Set pdDoc = AVDoc.GetPDDoc()
Set jso = pdDoc.GetJSObject
gApp.Show
gApp.MenuItemExecute "SaveToJPEG"
Set jso = Nothing
pdDoc.Close
Set pdDoc = Nothing
Set AVPageView = Nothing
AVDoc.Close (0)
Set AVDoc = Nothing
End If
OldName = "c:\football\JPEG Folder\Rept.jpeg": NewName = "c:\football\JPEG Folder\Rept_Page_" & Format(Count, "000") & ".jpeg"
Name OldName As NewName
Count = Count + 1
I am able to call the menu item "SAVE AS", but I don't know how to pass parameters to this ?? I was able to called the "Save As" as follow:
gApp.MenuItemExecute "Save As"
How would I pass the parameter like I have in my Javascript ??
I need help to resolve this issue to work with Acrobat 9.4.4 ?You would need to first set some javascript globals from your VBA code and then call your menu item.

How can I convert a PDF/A file into a PDF file with Acrobat Pro X?
How can I convert a PDF/A file into a PDF file with Acrobat Pro X? I'd like to modifiy the file which I have only as a PDF/A.
There's two answers if you want to modify the file:
You can temporarily turn off PDF/A Mode in your preferences, so they don't open as read-only. The problem would be if you do something to the file that violated the PDF/A standard, so you should always run a Preflight check afterwards to make sure.
If you want to remove the PDF/A header tag, use Preflight again - it's on the Print Production Panel in Acrobat X Pro (which may be hidden, use the options menu on the Tools Pane to show it). There's a profile called "Remove PDF/A information" - choose this and press Analyze and Fix. Nothing else about the file will be altered but when you save and reopen it all the editing tools will become active. -
Unable to save a copy of encrypted pdf with Acrobat Pro 10.0
I create an encrypted pdf using prince a tool to convert HTML documents to pdf. I am unable to save a copy of the pdf file when i use Acrobat Pro 10.0.
It displays the following error
"The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document(21)."
However Acrobat Reader (basic) allows me to do so.
I am also able to save a copy of the document with Acrobat pro 7. I raised this issue with Prince and they told me that it could probably be a bug/unwanted behaviour with Acrobat Pro 10.0
My system environment details:
OS: Windows xp
Acrobat Pro: 10.0.0
Acrobat Reader: 10.1.0Use the forum for Adobe Acrobat.

Adobe Presenter is bundled with Acrobat Pro
So am I to assume that the when I bought the Acrobat Pro
Extended Edition, I did not buy Adobe Presenter as well?
I called Adobe sales about my issues with unable to activate
Presenter and they forwarded me to Tech support who were clueless
as to why my serial number for Acrobat did not work for
Presenter.Adobe Presenter is bundled with Acrobat Pro Extended . When
you install Acrobat Pro extended then install Adobe Presenter using
Menu item of Autoplay.exe .If you do that ,then you need not
activate it , it will automatically activate .
I believe you have installed Presenter directly (not via
Autoplay Menu ) and that is why it is prompting you for serial key
which is not same as Acrobat Serial key and therefore will not
accept it
I will advice you to uninstall Presenter and install it via
AutoPlay Menu . In that case it will not prompt you for serial key
I faced this problem and above solution worked for me .Tell
me if it works for you as well -
Issues with Flash Pro CS5 on Mac
Hi,
I recently bought a MacBookPro 15", 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 and CS5 Creative Suite. Built in Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M.
Hi have some issues with Flash Pro:
- when objects on the stage are quite big (for example a 800x3000 movie clip), it start showing strange colors and wrong position, however when double clicking the movie clip to edit it, it looks correct. Also no problem when publishing. See images attached, the first one is correct, the second one shows the problem, when editing the mc in the 2nd image i get the third image that is correct.
Correct:
Wrong:
After entering editing mode:
- after a while, when making a change in the stage or in the time line (deleting frames for example), it doesn't show it immediately, but i need to refresh the page. This happens more when opening many fla in the same time. Closing and restarting Flash fixes it, for a while.
- after a while it doesn't show when selecting an object, the object looks like is not selected, however i can see that it is in the properties panel. This happens more when opening many fla in the same time. Closing and restarting Flash fixes it, for a while.
Hi have been using CS3 and CS4 with less powerful computers before (always mac) and i never encountered these issues.
Removing preferences and Application support files didn't help. I also updated Flash to v. 11.0.1, but no joy.
Does anyone know what's the problem?
Thanks a lot.
MikeBased on some searching and testing, it seems that if you redirect ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5 to a location on the local hard drive, rather than the network account storage, the problem ceases.
I hope this helps anyone else who may run into this problem.
Take care,
Branden -
Performance Issues with Acrobat Reader 11.0.0.2 when secure mode is enabled
Hello All,
We are experiencing sporadic issues with Acrobat 11.0.0.2 across our domain, users are reporting performance issues when opening PDF documents whether locally or from a network share.
We have found that turning off Secure Mode helps towards reducing this delay and in the cases it doesn't we are repairing the installation and/or reinstalling the application.
Due to the security implications we need to leave this turned on, I am wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and what steps were taken towards resolving it?
I also wonder whether the white list function in the new release 11.0.0.3 would be a solution to this issue?
Kind Regards,
Ryan McCartyNo probelm, so....
We had no problems with Adobe Reader 9 and 10, we encountered the issues when upgrading to 11.0.0.2.
Initially we found that turning off the Protected Mode, helped but did not resolve the issue.
We tried;
1. Turn off protected mode - issue still present
2. Clearing the recent file registry using the below registry path and deleting the keys underneath it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral\cRecentFiles (this does not turn recent files off permanently). - works but needs clearing regularly
3. Turning off welcome screen by creating - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cWelcomeScreen - works to improve app open speed.
4. uninstall/reinstall of 11.0.0.2 - works most likley due to the recent files being cleared.
5. upgrade to 11.0.0.3 - issue still present
Following reboots the issue is still present.
When Adobe Reader is the only application open this issue is still present.
As mentioned I have no systems available which I could test this issue using 11.0.0.1 as we have fixed them, albeit temporarily using the reinstall method.
I am concious that this issue is going to reoccur once that cache (recent files) builds back up because the fix above (#2) is clearing the recent files cache NOT disabling it. -
