Preflight panel not displaying / broken

The Preflight panel will not display. Invoking it from the main menu (Window > Output > Preflight), or the bottom of the document window or via the keyboard shortcut - none of them work - the preflight panel appears for the briefest moment and then disappears. No other part of the interface appears to be broken or behave the same way.
System
Mac OS 10.6.8, InDesign CC version 9 and Indesign CC version 9.1
Previous versions:
Exact same behaviour in CS6 (8.0.1)
Works fine in CS5.5 (v7.5.3)
Steps taken to troubleshoot:
Replicated the problem in a Mac OS X guest account.
Replicated the problem after resetting the preferences (as described in Troubleshooting 101 post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990?start=160&tstart=0 )
Tried disabling preflight (via bottom-of-document preflight menu). Tried creating new profiles.
Deleted / reinstalled the preflight profiles?
Not sure how I might do this, but it has occured to me this might be worth pursuing.
Using non-standard preflight profiles ?
No, using the supplied preflight profile.
Any troubleshooting advice appreciated...

As an FYI: Adobe discontinued developing the Spry framework last year. And Spry was removed from DW CC. You can keep using Spry if you wish, but most of us have switched to other solutions that work better in IE10 and Touch Screens.

Actions Panel not displaying

I am posting this here simply because I couldn't find
reference to this elsewhere and perhaps it will help someone
someday.
In Flash CS3 I had a problem with the Actions panel not
displaying. I tried F9, choosing Actions from the Window Menu,
right clicking on a frame and selecting Actions from the context
menu, restarting Flash, rebooting the computer, etc. It just
wouldn't display.
I finally took a good look on my flash desktop. At the very
top, right below the menu bar, was this little horizontal bar,
about 2 to 4 pixels in height. It was a dark grey, virtually
blending in with the window background. It had no graphics or text
on it, just a horizontal bar. It was probably the bottom few pixels
of the window frame. This was my actions panel all curled up, no
header bar, no nothing. I clicked on it, an voila, my actions panel
appeared.
My main questions are these: How did this happen and why was
it just a a blank vertical bar? Why not the regular title bar you
see when you minimize a panel?

- Choose your user login (with house icon)
- Go to Library
- Then Application Support
- Choose Adobe
- Open Flash CS3 or Flash 9 folder
- Open "EN" folder
- Rename Configuration folder to Configuration_OLD
- Launch Flash again and try accessing the Actions Panel.
It worked for me.

Character panel not displaying all options

Hi!
I need some help, when I open the character panel it only displays about half of the type changing options, such as kerning, leading, tracking & font size.
it does not display the stretching or the other four options to manipulate text. can anyone help me??
When I used to have CS3 it did, and now with CS5 I'm not sure why it's not automatically displaying everything in the character panel.

Swing Panels-not displaying correctly

I have created a GUI using Panels. Panels are created at runtime and added to the GUI dynamically.
But content of these panels are not displayed properly. For beg. some items appear only when I move the mouse over them. When I resize the GUI, content of the Panels are disappeared.

In the future, Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
Panels are created at runtime and added to the GUI dynamically.You need to use the revalidate() method on the Container that you add the panels to. This will cause the LayoutManager to be invoked and all the panels will be repainted in there new location.

Preflight errors not displaying

Hi there,
My preflight errors are not displaying - I'm using CS4. At the bottom of the screen I can see that there are errors in my documents but nothing displays in the Preflight window - it used to, but hasn't worked for a couple of weeks now. All suggestions welcome. Thanks

Data base panel not displaying recordset info

I am using dreamweaver cs4 running on i mac

the descriptions in my database panel are not displaying on the bindings tab the recordsets just abreviate to "reco" and when I expand a record set all I see is the llighting bolt
I want to be able to view full record set name and table names how do I do this ?

The first thing to do is to click the 'refresh' button on the r/h side of the databases panel.
If this does not work, look in the folder on your testing server where your php files are stored for a folder named - _mmServerScripts and delete it.
The file path would be something like - yourdrive - htdocs - sitefoldername - _mmServerScripts.
Close DW and then restart DW, and a new folder by that name will be created, along with the files that dreamweaver requires to communicate with the server, (warning - never alter the files in this folder). Should this not work then it may be a problem with your DW installation, php configuration or MySQL permissions.

Navigation panel not displaying correctly

Hi!
I've had this acrobat 9 pro problem for a few months but it's finally gotten to me - information displayed in the navigation panel (IE - layers, bookmarks, examine document etc) do not display properly. I can't really describe it, so here are some screen grabs. I've tried resetting the navigational pane but to no avail.
Is this an issue that has come up before? How can i resolve it?

I have seen such an issue on Mac Mavericks but again that's not a supported environment for Acrobat 9

Save options panel not displaying correctly on a mac - photoshop CS6

I am finding that when using photoshop cs6 on a mac and when saving files as png or web files - the options panel displays as black and you are unable to see any of the options.

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

I have unchecked "Use Default Configuration" in "People Refinement Panel" web-part.
I can only see "Job Title" in refinement panel.
In above xml code, the metadata property "DepartmentR" is mapped to "People:Department(Text)". I even full crawled after creating this property but this property never appears in Refinement Panel. I even performed full profile synchronization
in User Profile Application but still no luck.
Please help.

Make sure the managed property has the following set
1. Allow Property to be used in scopes: Ticked
2. Reduce storage requirements for text properties by using a hash for comparison: Ticked
3. Add managed property to custom results set retrieved on each query. Note: Only the first 2 kilobytes of data is available for display by default: Ticked

Info panel not displaying eps info

I cannot get the ppi information to display in the info panel. Is this some new spangly feature of InDesign, or a bug?

John, that's jut nit picking at what I said.
Sorry, I tried to make it clear, it's a nit but I think it is a very important one. Please feel free to disagree. But when we're talking about whether a file format that's important to people is doing to be supported, or is going to go away, it's very important to be clear about the public statements that have been made. Similarly, I do get bothered when EPS is described as "archaic" or "obsolete." It fills needs that are not filled by PDF or AI files, and while it is certainly older than PDF, it is of peer age to TIFF and JPEG. It is certainly less frequently used, and in many applications there are better choices (like PDF). But not in all.

I'm sorry, but please reread my post. I do not say that "EPS is preferred." I talk about several things it can and cannot do, and explain why, for instance, it and PDF show some of the same deficiencies in InDesign's Info panel. I tell you some reasons that I like it. But I do not in fact believe that it is a "better" format most of the time, and make no such claim. It is unfair to ask me to substantiate claims I did not make. I tried to be quite careful on this one.

You have produced quite a link storm there, but I'm afraid they don't do a terribly clear job of explaining why these other formats are better than EPS, and for exactly which applications. If your point is to say that in general, one should not prefer EPS over PDF, then that's fine. I think it is a true statement.
What bothers me about the statements in this thread (and this forum in general frequently echoed on this forum) is that it is wrong to use EPS; that EPS is obsolete; that Adobe InDesign will drop support for EPS; that EPS is archaic. That's simply not the case. It might be the wrong format for bigdrunk (it probably is; but we don't really know what he is doing). It is not the wrong format for everyone.
Addressing the external links/references
But we should be clear on what we're talking about. Your initial link, to Real World Illustrator's What's in a file? does a great job of describing the output formats from Illustrator. It doesn't really make a recommendation, other than to note that PDF supports some features that EPS does not. Transparency being the key point, and we've mentioned that only four times before your post. I'm not sure if that's the "plain as day" or not.
Adobe's David Evans' psvspdf post similarly discusses both formats, and suggests that EPS is a replacement for PDF -- which it is. But that only gets you so far. It doesn't address the fact that PDF files can have downsides compared to EPS files (many articulated above in the thread), but really just says that PDF can do most of the things that EPS can do. That's certainly true. After all, you can put EPS files inside PDF files! But that doesn't tell you that you're better off writing to a PDF file in any particular case. To pick a few examples from above, some apps can only read EPS files and can't read PDF files. And others can generate EPS files much more easily than they can generate PDF files.
I am rather apalled that you would cite eHow. They are rather notorious for giving bad advice that is not vetted by experts. In this case, though, the eHow post merely answers the question, "If an EPS file won't work, what are the alternatives?" It seems to do so correctly, but its not relevant to this discussion.
Craig Kirkwood's Pixel Therapy link is more general advice, for "How should I save my Illustrator work?" And again, none of us here who are speaking up for EPS are saying that it is the preferred file for Illustrator work (though I did point out that Illustrator can produce smaller EPSs than PDFs, which is bizarre).

Why do you think so? In general, they should be equivalent -- in both cases a PDF file is available to PDF-reading applications, and in both cases (and in Illustrator EPS, by the way), Illustrator private data is preserved for full Illustrator editing capability. I would say that distributing .PDF files is a better choice, because if a non-expert person receives a .ai attachment in their email, they are more likely to be confused about how to view, print or render it than they would be if they receive a .pdf file. That may not sound like the most compelling reason, but I can't think of one that is more compelling.

To be honest, I think it is because there are very few experts on these file formats. You need to really understand the low-level file format to be qualified to offer an opinion on the merits of the file format by itself. And the merits of the file format aren't really the point most of the time -- what matters is the applications that you use, and how they handle it. Does a given application produce better PDF files or better EPS files. Does another application read EPS files better than it reads PDF files? Are there apps that read or write one but not the other? Is there a savings in file structure, in maintenance, in cost, in aggravation.
Most of the people who write about these things are aware of the ramifications and the practical effects of the choices, but not the low-level details.
Most of the time the low-level details do not matter. But they do indeed matter to some of us, and it is those of us who have spoken up in this thread.

Can you explain why you think EPS is better than ai or PDF? Can you point me to any online sources, or books?
As we have enumerated in this thread (and the other recent one, I guess), EPS has the following potential advantages over PDF; they may not be important to you, but they are sometimes important to some of us in some cases:
1. It can be easily authored by humans and tools without requiring complex tools to convert into intermediate formats (e.g. Acrobat Distiller; pstopdf or GNU Ghostscript; expensive libraries to produce PDF output);
2. If appropriately written, it can produce human-readable ASCII output that can be understood by someone familiar with EPS. For programatically generated output, seeing that the code says "Draw a circle at coordinates (1 inch, 1 inch)" can be extremely valuable. In such an EPS file, that might be "1 inch 1 inch drawcircle."
3. Bitmap binary data can be more efficiently JPEG encoded in EPS than in PDF. (I was not aware of this, and do not know it to be the case. But Uwe mentions it.)
4. Gernot's point regarding direct CMYK specifications. I'm honestly not sure what it is, so I won't try to explain it.
5. Some apps output cleaner EPS files than they do PDF files. Apparently Illustrator is one such app. Which is bizarre.
6. Some applications/clients/specifications require EPS, such as the CUMULUS database.
As for AI, well, as we've already said above AI and PDF are essentially equivalent, as both can contain PDF images and Illustrator private data. But EPS is certainly better than Illustrator private data because it is an open, well-documented standard. Anyone with enough time on their hands can interpret an EPS file acording to a public, published spec that's been around for years. There are free and commericial software PostScript renderers, and there are an abundance of PostScript printers. None of those things are true for AI.
The rest.
What's left? I think that's really about it. You've spent quite a bit of time arguing against a position I do not think anyone was adopting.

SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Side Panel not displaying JT file

We are trying to use the SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Side Panel from transaction CV03N. The Side Panel display. However, all of the various sections of the Side Panel are empty. Any suggestions of how to resolve this problem would be appreciated.
We traced the interaction between the browser and the server using Fiddler. We can see a web service call going out to sap/bc/nwbc/nwbc_ext2int. When we look at the calling parameters (see below), only the Document Number (DOKNR) field is being passed. Shouldn't the Document Type, Document Part, and Document Version be part of the call?

RoboHelp HTML Version 10 - Navigation panel not displaying in published project

We are generating a WebHelp project in RoboHelp HTML Version 10 and the navigation panel (TOC, Search, etc.) is no longer visible in the index file (viewed locally) and it's only visible by clicking "Show" when viewed in a web server. This issue is occurring with Internet Explorer 11 and Google Chrome Version 39.0.2171.99 m. I also tried to view the index files of previously generated projects and am experiencing the same issue (this did not occur before). Is this a known issue? It appears that there a few other discussions posted recently experiencing similar issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. What you are describing sounds like perfectly normal behavior.
Can you share a link where this is happening? Not so we can click it, but so we can see what the link looks like.
If you want a topic to open with the surrounding navigation (TOC, Index, Search, Glossary) you need to click the Show link, then look at what's in the Address bar. Copy that link and you should have what you need.

Glyph panel not displaying font character sets in cs5.5

I'm having issues with accessing font character sets & glyphs in ID cs5.5.
I have all my fonts in fontbook and can see the full font character sets displayed but
when I go to my glyph panel to access any additional character or glyphs sets there
is nothing displayed. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

You potentially have a "bad" font. Check your fonts and remove the offender.

Navigation Panel not displayed

Hi,
I have just installed my EP server. When I log in, I do not see the navigation panel. It gives me an error "Error: Access is denied" followed by an error "Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object".
I checked the browser settings for security, privacy and advanced settings, which are as per SAP documentations.
Appreciate suggestions as to where the error could be.
