Preflight Script

I cannot install any software. Every time any installer runs, specifically from Apple, it starts to install, then immediately stops. I check the log and I get the same message every time, with the only difference being whatever software I was attempting to install is listed at the end of the log text. Here's the text from the most recent install log:
Feb 2 14:26:16 Install failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Apple Remote Desktop Client
This is really annoying, especially since everything else seems to be working fine. I just cannot update anything from Apple anymore. I am currently stuck at 10.4.7.
1 GHz PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 GB Ram
1 GHz PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 GB Ram

If you have the Developer Tools installed, you could try looking at it in Package Maker. That might give you more information. But, other than a bad install of Remote Desktop, I really have no idea what might cause that.
From your description it sounds like you've got VNC Guest Access working. What it sounds like you really want is full Remote Desktop access, which would eliminate the permission dialog.

  • Install of Flash 10 failing - "run preflight script" - Mac OS X 10.5.6

I tried to install Flash 10  - and it asks me to close the "Dashboard Client" of Mac OS X and after I click close on the flash install window, the installation fails. A message says that the failure occurs during "run preflight script" and to contact the software developer.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes or way around it?!

Got the problem as well, a little bit frustrating, i have the problem with BOTH flash 10 and photoshop elements 3 why isn't adobe willing to help us? I think this is quite dissapointing when you take into account the software costs ±$100 I also have Mac OSX 10.5.7

  • Install Failed:  The following install step failed: run preflight script

I'm trying to reinstall Photoshop CS2 on an intel iMac, OS 10.5.5. I ran the install program, after a few seconds I get the following error message:

"Install Failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Adobe Photoshop CS2. Contact the software manufacturer
for assistance." (I did contact adobe, but they no longer support CS2) Originally, I had installed PS CS2 when I was using OS 10.4.X, then I upgraded to 10.5.x. PS CS2 was working fine on my system. Then I accidentally deleted the program, now I'm having trouble reinstalling. I'd appreciate any help that you can give me.

I encountered the exact same problem - I had upgraded to CS2 from a previous version of Photoshop, back
when I was using OSX 10.3.9. Later, I upgraded my OS from 10.3.9, to Leopard (10.5.8.)
CS2 always ran flawlessly, through all those systems.
Then I had occasion to reformat my HD and reinstall Leopard 10.5.8.
That's when the CS2 installer failed, with the same message mentioned above.
When I called in, they basically said, buzz off....we won't help you.
First, this shows that their software is flawed.
They managed to allow this problem to occur due to inept programming.
Now they are either incapable, or unwilling, to write a programming fix for this problem.
It reeks olf ineptitude, plus colossal, inexcusable arrogance and disrespect for their customer base.
Just my humble opinion of course...and I've been a Photoshop user since 1990.

  • Install Updates Failed:Preflight Script???

Nobody answered the only archived question similar to mine. I got the following message when trying to install updates: _+None of the checked updates could be installed: run preflight script for...+_.
Has anyone else had this problem and a solution?
    Thanks.

    Next thing to try is...
Use Disk Utility to verify/Repair the HD, then Repair Permissions then reboot.
Use the Archive and Install feature...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    Repair Permissions afterwards, reboot.
After that would be a complete Zeroing of the HD and a fresh Install.

  • Error installing iLife 09 - "run preflight script for Registration"

    Hi,
I am trying to install iLife 09 and am getting the error above (run preflight script for registration) and cant figure out how to fix it. I have run a permissions repair, rebooted and it just doesnt want to let me install. My Install.app is present in /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app and have installed all the latest updates for 10.5
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Edit: I see this could be in the wrong forum - my apologies - please move to the correct forum.

I'm having the same problem. I cannot instal Ilife on my new Imac.
I first tried to install all programs together via the installation guide. but it kept crashing without any reason.
after that I tried to install each program seperately via the customized installation guide but again the installation guide crashed.
for each program the following messages appeared:
run preflight script for iphoto, Imovie etc.
So what can I do about this. The warning message said I had to contact the manufacturer.
    Thanks

  • ILife '09 installation problems; run preflight script error

Hi, not sure where else to put this topic so I figured this would be the best place. The iLife section has forums for individual applications and not the entire thing.
I'd like to point out that I had iLife '08 installed and working but I uninstalled it before I proceeded with the '09 installation since I wanted to start clean. I also installed iWork '09 successfully.
When I try installing iLife '09 however, I get a an error stating "The following install setup failed: run preflight script for registration. contact the software manufacturer for assistance.". I have tried to repair disk permissions through Disk Utility and then reboot, but still get the same error. I have also tried using some of Onyx's "cleaning" utilities, but it doesn't help either.
I also get the same "run preflight script" error when I try installing the latest Quicktime update through Apple Software Update application.
Not sure any of these are related but I'm out of ideas. Is anyone else getting anything similar or know how to fix any of this?

Just a guess, but do you have a retail disk of iLife '09 or an upgrade that came as a supplement to your new Mac? If the latter, you should have the iLife '08 applications installed in their default locations (where they were located when you first started up the new Mac) because it is highly unlikely that an upgrade disk can upgrade what is not there.
If this is your problem, you may not have to reinstall the entire OS. Instead, first try looking for an "Install Bundled Software" app (or something with a similar name) on your new Mac's system disk 1. This may allow you to reinstall the original iLife apps without having to reinstall the OS. If so, the upgrade disk should work once they are back in place.

  • Software Install Error: failed run: preflight script

I'm trying to install new software (the software instrument Trillian by Spectrasonics) but every attempt results in the error message:
"The following installation step failed: run preflight script for Trillian Disc 1 Core Library.
Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
I've tried everything I can think of with no result. I'm a Mac user of 18 years and can generally get myself out of the usual issues etc but I've never seen an error like this before and after trying the obvious have no idea where to start.
There's nothing on the software manufacturer's support site about this and apparently my tech support call will be answered "within three business days .
    Any pointers much appreciated.
(I've tried various drives, rebooted various times, done the permissions thing etc)

Thanks for the responses but the software is very much compatible with 10.6 (and is moving to 64bit this month).
Spectrasonics are rather slow to respond ("three business days" for a response to my call apparently !) and I can't find any solution in their support documents online.
The good news is that I discovered a workaround by logging out of my account and logging in as another user, it installed just fine that way, though it took a while to change permissions for my account.
The bad news that it's something in my user account, but I have no idea at what level.
Whatever it is is still there and I don't know what other effect it's having on my setup and and I can't find any fix or pointers about it anywhere, although I have found numerous references to users having the same problem trying to install software in OS X as a whole (not just 10.6).

  • Run preflight script fails

A client with a MacBook (10.5.8) is trying to install software updates but all of them get failures whether they are run together or separately. The laptop has been running just fine for months, and installing updates regularly. No new software has been installed since the last update.
    The failures are with:
    HP Printer Drivers Update (1.1.1)
    AirPort Base Station Update (5.5.1)
    Quicktime (7.6.6)
    Safari (4.0.5)
    iTunes (9.1.1)
    Security Update 2010-003 (1.0)
All six updates have been run individually with the same error. The full error message looks like this:
"None of the checked updates could be installed.
The following stall step failed: run preflight script for Airport Utility. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
Anyone have any ideas what to do?

    Dual 2 GHz PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I looked at an install log for one of my OS X updates. During the install process, there was a directory created in /private/tmp and the very next line was to run a preflight script. This makes me wonder if you could be having a problem similar to ones observed many times in 10.3. There should be a /tmp which should be a logical link to /private/tmp. This link was sometimes broken and then the software update failed.
So, one thing to try is to check the integrity of your directory structure. You can do this by launching the terminal app from the utilities menu. Then, copy and issue the following two commands:
    ls -ol /tmp
ls -ol /private | grep tmp
(Note that the "l" characters are the lower case of "L", not of "I".)
Please copy the results and post back. If something does not look right, we can offer suggestions.

  • Error "Run Preflight Script for Omnisphere" on the installation

Good afternoon, I just bought a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and am installing all VST plugins used before in PC, all I could until I was presented Spectrasonics Omnisphere (the VST is the most use and need) should be added I could also install Spectrasonics Trilian is also and installed in the same folder.
The problem I have is that when I try to install the DVD 1 of Omnisphere throws me the following error:
What I did was go to the Spectrasonics support and get this: http://www.spectrasonics.net/support/knowledgebase_view_topic.php?id=265&categor yID=7 says that this error occurs when the folder in which you installed characters strangers or double spaces, also recommended that you try to install in another folder. I did all that and still keeps coming out that mistake.
I hope you can help me with that because unfortunately ruined my whole day :/
    Hugs and thanks.

Got a fix for this (was vexing me considerably and ALMOST gave up..). I discovered that the Iso's (Sample DVDs 1-5) were not actually fully 'mounting'. via the normal kick start mpkg's...
    FIX:
Instead, after unzipping the ISOS, drag and drop all 5 into the left hand column of DISK UTILITY and open them from there (click and initialise install process as before with .mpkg), hey presto.. no frikkin' Pre flight error and the install is finally working!
I cannot believe Spectrasonics Support were not aware of this error!
I'm on MBP/ OSX Yosemite BTW.

  • Help! Need help with preflight package script

I am trying to write a package with Iceberg to push Office 2004 to 250 Macs. I need a preflight script with a condition that will stop my script if /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 exists OR if OFFICE 2004 exists. Don't know if searching on the folder name is the best or if there is better way
If it doesn't exist I want it to continue with with placing Office 2004 in the /Applications folder.
I don't know how to do conditions (If, then, end)
    PREFLIGHT SCRIPT
IF /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 folder exist = STOP
IF /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 folder doesn't exist continue with laying down files/folder in the package.
    LAYDOWN FILES
LAY DOWN FILES IN ICEBERG FILE SECTION OF THE PACKAGE
    POSTFLIGHT SCRIPT
    #!/bin/sh
    #Change to root directory
    cd /
    # Move Microsoft Office X folder to Messages Received folder
    mv /Applications/Microsoft\ Office\ X /Messages\ Received
    #Open Office 2004 Installer
    open /Applications/Utilities/Installers/Office2004Installer
    ALL Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    ALL Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    ALL   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

A simple condition (not using iceberg) would be:
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ -e "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004.app" ]
    then
echo "Microsoft Office 2004 exists, aborting installation"
    exit 1
    fi
    open -a "/Applications/Utilities/Installers/Office2004Installer"
If Microsoft Office 2004 is installed then the script will exit with a message. If Microsoft Office 2004 is not there then the last line will be executed and the installer will open.

  • Error on OS 10.4.6 update : peflight script problem

Hi there folks. i posted in the G5 Display forum a problem i had with my computer hanging during startup (the grey screen with the apple logo) after a powersurge/cut last week. i was running 10.4.11 and i tried every diagnostic, but to no avail.
i managed to boot up in Target Mode and save the data, and did a reinstall.
i can reinstall 10.4.3 and then manually update to 10.4.4 and then 10.4.5 with no problem. but i keep getting this error message with any of the later updates:
*failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC)*
when i check the crashlog it says:
    *[477]: dyld: +Symbol not found: Perl_atforkunlock+*
    *preflight[477]: Referenced from: /usr/bin/perl*
    *preflight[477]: Expected in: /System/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/CORE/libperl.dylib*
i can't figure out what has happened, but i've been reinstalling various versions of the OS now for days, and at one stage the computer kept booting into Darwin and all the Terminal command line gobbledygook kept popping up, which is utterly meaningless to me.
i can't figure out what to do, other than splash out on Leopard (which i am loathe to do!) and see if that works, but there's no guarantee it will.
anyone have this problem before or is tech-saavy enough to understand the meaning of the *+Symbol not found: Perl_atforkunlock+* message?
    many thanks in advance...

Hi daddypaycheck. yeah, i completely wiped the drive a number of times (i guess i must have attempted about 12 installs!) and also did the whole repair permissions and various other diagnostic stuff, but to no avail.
so i went out and bought Leopard and did a complete full-on clean install...
with absolutely no luck. it bombed on me with 1 minute left to go, and every other attempt failed at the very start.
so, i went back to 10.4.3 and chanced my arm again with the combo update to 10.4.11, and lo and behold, but the damned thing worked!
EXCEPT for the fact that there are no folder icons on display in any view and barely any of my apple apps open (mail, ichat, safari and none of my iLife apps - except Garageband) etc, etc...
also, the vertical scrollbar is missing from all windows, including iTunes, whenever that decides to open...
i'm really, really annoyed with the whole thing now. i can't seem to find any info online. lots of similar, but-not-quite-the-same issues, regarding zapping PRAM, removing RAM, checking Graphiocs cards etc etc, but i have already tried all of these and there's no change.
if it does work perfectly as 10.4.3, then surely it stands to reason there can't be any problem with displaying 10.4.11?
and, in case anyone mentions to just stick with 10.4.3 if it works - my iTunes library seems to require 10.4.9 or later... sigh...
thanks for the input though dpc!

  • I need a script master!!

Hi everyone, i'm sorry if i will sound a total idiot to the most of you. Thanks to everyone who will have the patience to read the whole message. i bought this software called ivory for
mac -which is a great piano plugin- and i found that the installer is not working properly on OS X Yosemite. I emailed the customer service and they told me the problem is in the installer of the dvd and they're working on developing a new installer, but they
don't know exactly when. Now, i don't have any experience in scripting or programming, so I'm desperately searching for someone who wants to have a look at this script and understand why it is not working. The problem is in the end of the installation when
the program executes its scripts: the first one asks for a folder where i will put all the sound libraries
    that's the message:
Ivory library files will be installed in your current Ivory Items folder here:
    /Users/lucavincenzocappelli/Desktop/ivory/Ivory Items/
    Press OK to proceed (recommended).
and then, after i click on it, it will open another script called NoIvoryItems which gives me this message:
The installer could not locate your Ivory Items folder. Please make sure that you have Ivory properly installed and the hard drive that contains your Ivory Items folder is turned on and
    try again.
I checked the content of the installer app, in resources folder i found a "preflight" file which i can open with text edit, that should give all the instructions about running
    the different scripts:

After that it should begin copying the contents. The program has over 70 Gb of files so there's 11 DVD, and the installation file comes in the first one obviously. I'm pretty sure that
there's something inside one single file somewhere that stops the whole process and stops the installation, but i don't really know what to do. If you need the content of one of the scripts named in the preflight just tell me, i will upload it! Do you think
there's a way to create a script that can bypass this folder check telling the program the exact location of my Ivory Item folder and allow me to continue the installation process?
Thanks in advance to all of you!

Well, hopefully not to state the incredibly obvious, but this is a Microsoft Windows scripting forum, of course, so it's unlikely any respondents here would be able to offer assistance (it would be off-topic anyway). It sounds like something you would
need to get hands-on help with.

I have no ideal what to do, i searched through the topics and nothing helped that i could find.
I retried it 4 times, I turned off energy saver and screen saver, i repaired permissions in Disk Utility, and i even downloaded the update form a link on apple.com instead of using the Software Update button.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Try using Disk Utility to run a "verify disk" operation. If that shows an error, restart your Mac with the shift key down to boot into "safe mode", which will run a disk repair operation.
