Preflight to one color black

I'm struggling trying to figure this out. Hopefully a big brain can help me.
I am trying to get magazine ads ready using Preflight in Acrobat. The ads for this section of our mag are going to be Black and white (grayscale) PDFs. Most are registering as 4 plates, the odd one has spot colors. What I am trying to do is preflight the ads to convert all colors to 100K so they will be one plate.
Another question, if I manage to convert all color to 100K and then run the Magazine Ads preset in preflight will that keep the PDF as one plate or will it convert it to 4 color?
Suggestions? Advice? Input?
Thanks

Chris,
can you please provide me with such a prepared PDF? Please send to p.kleinheider [at] callassoftware.com
Preflight is capable to check for used colorants for almost all objects (CMYK images being the only one I am aware of that Preflight can not check for unused colorants)

Peter

  • Does white need to be transparent for one color t-shirt printing?

    Hi,
    I made one color (black and white) graphic as an Illustrator file for a guy who is printing it with one color on t-shirts. Some of the white areas are formed from white objects on top of black objects and some are transparent areas like the background that shows when the Show Transparency Grid is selected from the View menu .
    The guy told me his printer said that there are  white objects in the graphic that need to be transparent.
    I don’t have any other information. I don’t know what kind of printing, printer, and t-shirts are used. Initially the guy told me not to worry about that, he will prepare the graphic for print but now he is asking me to turn the whites to transparent. Given the situation, I’m suspecting if this is the right approach.
    I would like to learn the right way of doing this and I will greatly appreciate any advice, and input.

    If you make a compound path...the artwork will be OK.
    That cannot be assumed as true without actually seeing how the artwork is built. In any of these situations,  a normal even-odd winding will cause unwanted black reversals:
    Difference regions between any white and black fills (for example a white path only partially overlapping a black path).
    Intersection regions between two or more white fills.
    Intersection regions between two or more black fills.
    Without knowing the artwork stack, the most likely "one-size-fits-all" solution would be the Merge Pathfinder. But even that assumes that all paths are filled, unstroked paths; no Brushes, etc.
    But as has already been stated, when printing separations or composite, white means "no ink" unless the white is a spot color Swatch. The strange-sounding request from the printer may also be due to white objects being accidently set to overprint.
    The surest thing for a beginner not understanding any of the above would be to just rasterize the whole thing to 1-bit at a moderate resolution, assuming it is all line art and is drawn at 100%.

  • How can I Make just one color pop and the rest a black and white photo??

    How can I make just one color pop and the rest of the photo black and white?? I'm using iphoto...

    3rd party image editors like Photoshop Elements for Mac can do it:
    Click to play video screenshot
    Or use it to keep an object in color and the rest B/W.
    Click to view full size

  • Won't print one color

    My HP printer Officejet Pro 8600 won't print Magenta color.. I have replaced two different cartritges but none worked. Yellow, blue and black works fine.. The picture/text would print but just without red tones.
    All I get is greenish colors...
    What can be done to fix it..??

    HP c7180 - Won't print one color[ New ]
    12-28-2010 04:50 PM
    My C7180 displayed a message that the ink cartridge was out of date and immediately stopped printing which used Mageneta.    I replaced the cartridge and it still won't print this color.    All other print functions and features are fine.   If a photo or print requires red,  however,  it prints as yellow.   Print tests show a small single horizonal line where the mageneta should be.   Additionally,  I've run the "clean print head" command.   Any ideas or suggestions?    Thanks.

Unpluged adn re-powered the printer, still nothing.  Any ideas....???

  • Converting 4-Color Blacks to 100% Black

    Is there a way to convert 4-Color Blacks(Rich Blacks) to 100% Black? For example today I got a file that was CMYK 4 Color however the blacks in the PDF file were not 100% Black is there a way to convert the 4 Color Blacks to 100% black in Acrobat? I don't want the whole PDF to be Greyscale. I still want the color but I want to specifically target the 4 color blacks and turn them to 100% black. Can this be done? I am using Acrobat 8.

    It's possible but not easy.
    You first need to identify exactly what the "rich black" in the document is - 4-plate CMYK, RGB, etc. then create a Preflight Check that finds only that color combination, with a second item in the check to filter only by text objects.
    You can then use it as the trigger item for a Convert Colors preflight fixup, applying something like a dot gain 30, which will blow the rich black out to 100K.

  • Recolor one color artwork

    Hello,
    I'm trying to recolor one color artwork using Illustrator CS6:
    As you can see, I selected the artwork, pressed 'Recolor Artwork' and the tried to pick another color - I double-clicked on the rectangle under 'New' and I got to this result, when I'm trying to change it through the bars or swatch, I get the same result. The new color that I picked is changing the first one and not the second (if I understood it right).
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!

    Yes, black needs to be unchecked in the Color Reduction Options dialog which is on the left side of Colors edit field.
    Please let us know if it helps!

  • Show one color at a time

    right now i am just brainstorming my next art project so i don't really have anything specific (which might make this harder to answer but bear with me)
    ok, i am hoping to create a pretty complex peice. lots of shapes and detail, no gradients though.
    is there a way to only show one color at a time.... that makes no sense, let me grab an example...
    ok, i'll try again, if i was going to do this in illustrator, i would have that gold on top all on one layer. then on top of that i would have the red eyes on one layer. is there a way i can see all the gold but only the gold that will actually show up when i print it? basically like when they do prints, they print one color at a time and it's not like they overlap a bunch of layers. can i do that like on screen?
    i guess if i had to i could do it in photohop, make a brush out of the red layer and erase those parts of the gold... but i dont want to do it that way, can i do it in illustrator?
    thanks guys, i know that makes no sense...
    if i have a bunch of objects overlapping each other

    ALWAYS state what version you're using.
    It sounds like you simply want to preview color separations on screen. If so, and if you have Acrobat Pro, you can:
    1. Save the file as a press-ready PDF.
    2. Open in Acrobat.
    3. Preview the separations in the Advanced>PrintProduction>OutputPeview dialog.
    Understand: "Color separations" means color as it will be sent to the individual printing plates, not individual "colors" you've used in the design (unless the design is entirely spot color). If that's what you want, you can:
    1. Select an object of a particular color.
    2. Use one of the Select Same commands in the Select menu.
    3. Store the selection. (Select>SaveSelection)
    4. Object>Hide>Selection (leaving other-colored objects visible)
    5. Similarly store selections for each different color. Use the Hide Selection command on which every ones you don't want to see.

  • How can I change one color in design on a web site for exemple background : white to light-brown?

    1. how can I change one color in design on a web site for exemple background : white to light-brown?
    2. how can I edit visual bookmark on the beginning page?

    This doesn't sound like a Firefox issue. I think you'd be better off with a site that offers web design tutorials. Try this one: http://www.w3schools.com/
    One thing you should do though and that is to update Firefox via Help | Check For Updates.
    There was a security breach at Comodo which is an SSL certificate provider recently whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were inadvertently issued. These allow a hacker to impersonate any site including online banking and the Firefox version you're running at the moment will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and beyond.

  • How to make a one-color fill images with masks in documents from our multiple layers ?

    Hello everyone!
    I`m to open PSD document with same layers. I need to:
    1. Save the jpg file (preview) in a certain place
    2. All layers with masks to make one-color fill instead of images with masks.
    Thanks
    This is way ?
    var theLayers = collectLayers(app.activeDocument, []);
    alert (theLayers.join("\n"));
    function collectLayers (theParent, allLayers) {//---------------------------------------------------
    if (!allLayers) {var allLayers = new Array}
       else {};
       for (var m = theParent.layers.length - 1; m >= 0;m--) {
          var theLayer = theParent.layers[m];
          if (theLayer.typename == "ArtLayer") {
               var bar = new Array;
               bar = theLayer.bounds
               l0= Math.abs(this.app.activeDocument.width - theLayer.bounds[2] - theLayer.bounds[0]);
               l1= Math.abs(this.app.activeDocument.height -theLayer.bounds[3] - theLayer.bounds[1]);
                if((l0+l1)>0) { // layer mask is set
                    // delete this layer
                    //create new layer
                    //create new mask from array bar
                    //fill selection
                allLayers.push(theLayer);
       return allLayers

    I may not quite follow.
    Would you mind posting an example (a screenshot with the Layers Panel visible for example) and an overview of the resulting images you want to produce?

  • How to sample one color from gradient

    I have an object in Illustrator CC that has a gradient applied to it. I would like to use the eyedropper tool to sample just one color selected from a specific point in the gradient but when I click on the object with the eyedropper the whole gradient is picked up.
    How to I sample just one point in a gradient?
    I looked at my eyedropper preferences. Everything is checked. I didn't see an option that would let me do what I wanted.
    Any suggestions?
    Phil

    Yeah I sure did try, but unfortunately I believe it's a limitation of the operating system. Windows on Windows OS like to be contained within the window area. In this case, illustrator loses focus of the cursor when you leave the window borders. I was hoping you were on Windows and had a way around it.

  • Changing one color stop of a gradient with color picker

    Hi. Is there a way to change just one color stop in a gradient by eyedropping a color on your art board? I know you can go to the color picker but it won't let you choose something on the canvas. Also I know I can make a swatch and drag it into the gradient, but really who wants to do that if you can just eyedropper that sucker! any thoughts? thanks!

    When the color stop in the gradient is selected, take the eyedropper, press shift and click on the color you want applied to the stop.
    Pressing shift means sometimes that colors will be converted through color management though. For example when clicking on a placed photo.

  • New Quad-G5 with Apple 30" display WON'T DISPLAY THE COLOR BLACK???!!!!

    Just got this system up and running with all my software and for some reason if I show video with an all black screen there are blue lines tarnishing the image. If I let the computer go to sleep and then wake it up any black is afflicted with the same problem. Now if just the display goes to sleep (not the computer) and it gets woken up then the problem just occurs in video again. HELP! This computer should be able to display the color black.

    Sounds like a video card issue.
