Prel refusing to play prel files

I created, edited, rendered, saved and watched 4 films in prel. But after restarting my computer it wouldn't let me watch them. An error message said prel wouldn't support that type of file (but they were prel files!) or that maybe a codec was missing (but if so, how did I manage to edite, save, render and watch them in the first place?). One of these films is really important and I need to retrieve it urgently. What can I do?

I imported all the media from my camcorder. I put it into into a folder I'd created called "Project rushes".
And that folder has exactly the same drive letter that it had when you first added the files?
Spencer Fitz-Gibbon wrote:
I've just checked one of the files in "Project rushes" and the short piece of film played okay. So it seems the original rushes/media are still okay, sitting here on my computer.
Just to ease any concerns, PRE is a non-destructive video editor, so it won't delete or touch your original video files in any way.
Codec is derived from enCOder / DECoder and as far as PRE is concerned is required to encode or play back video file formats. So your case is quite perverse if it worked, but after a reboot didn't. You didn't happen to install or uninstall any other software between those reboots?
It might help if you could analyse your source video files and post a screenshot here (google for and use either GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse the files). Although I'm not hopeful that will help as it is the offline error your getting.
Have you tried reconnecting the first of those files?
Could you just start a new project, import one of your files and see if that imports and plays back in the preview window. If it does, save the project reboot and try again.
If you're feeling adventurous you could open the .prel file with notepad and search for 'ActualMediaFilePath' - this should be followed by the path it is using to find one of your media files. Does it match your 'Project rushes' folder?

    Hi,
The only thing I can think of suggesting is to download the Full Feature installer on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL29976/al-74809-1/DJ_AIO_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe
When the download has completed, right click the installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  Do not connect the PC to the printer until the software asks you to.
    Hope this helps.

  • [SOLVED] Clementine Refuses to Play MP4 (Missing Plugin)

I am having the same issue as described here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=120851
Clementine is refusing to play mp4 files, giving the error: "Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in."
As an additional note, the mp4 files play perfectly in VLC.
What I have tried so far:
    1. Installed gstreamer0.10-plugins group
    2. Reinstalled faac and faad2
    3. Reinstalled libmp4v2 and lame
    4. Deleted directory ~/.local/share/gstreamer-1.0
However, even after these steps I am having the same issue.
Out of the multimedia/music players I've tried clementine most closely fits my needs, so I would like to stick with it.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Please let me know if I should provide any additional information. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I do have gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg installed; I believe it's included in the gstreamer0.10-plugins group and just double-checked and it's there. I also just tried changing the extension to .m4a as you suggested but no luck; same error message.
And I do have those above codecs:
"gst-inspect-0.10 | grep qtdemux" yields: "isomp4:  qtdemux: QuickTime demuxer"
"gst-inspect-0.10 | grep aacparse" yields: "ffmpeg:  ffmux_adts: FFmpeg ADTS AAC muxer (not recommended, use aacparse instead) \n audioparsers:  aacparse: AAC audio stream parser"
"gst-inspect-0.10 | grep faad" yields: faad:  faad: AAC audio decoder"
Here's the full output of gst-inspet-0.10 in case that's helpful, although it's a lot: http://pastebin.com/1Xet30CK
I checked VLC as you said, and for the mp4's,
audio codec: "MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)"
            video codec: "H264-MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)".
decoded format (video): "Planar 4:2:0 YUV".
The page gives some more information, but I don't think anything so relevant (channels, sample rate, resolution, etc).
Do you have any other ideas, and is there any additional information I should provide?

  • No sound in previously created ".prel" files when I reopen them

If I am creating new file everything works OK. Also if I tried to play the sound track on the previously created prel files the sound is OK

Great job with the troubleshooting the comment in post 1
When you have encountered this no sound after a save close reopen, have you ever tried
    a. Moving from one working space to another and making sound changes in the other workspace before going back to the original working space
    b. working in the Timeline workspace and moving audio content to other numbered audio tracks?
By narration missing in all of my projects, does that include new as well as existing projects?
In your present situation, please look at deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete
the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option
Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the complete path cited.
Also for troubleshooting purposes now, please consider creating narration in the free audio editor Audacity, exporting the
narration as wav to hard drive and from there import the wav narration file into Premiere Elements with Premiere Elements' Add Media/Files and
Folders. Does that function on Narration Track?
Thanks for the follow ups. Looking forward to learning of your further progress.

  • How can i open a .prel file in premiere elements 11?

    Hello Community
Yesterday i created a clip with premiere elements 11 and i saved it as .prel file.
Today i wanted to open this file to go on working on my clip but i couldn't open the .prel file.
When i try to open this file, my premiere elements 11 says that it doesn't support this kind of file or it's in a wrong codec.
Maybe it is because I relocated the different clips i used for my video after i saved my project
    Can anyone help me out?

    nikank
Maybe it is because I relocated the different clips i used for my video after i saved my project
A very likely possibility that should be explored first. Please move the clips to exactly where they were when you
imported them into the project. When you import your source media into a project, all you get in the project are copies of the
originals. And, those copies need to trace back to the originals at the hard drive save location where
they were when first imported into the project.
Under the condition that you describe, even if the project did open, you should be greeted by several "Where is the file_____?" messages
that you would have to deal for the reconnects.
Other complications may be involved but let us start with the obvious one.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thank you.

Does it not play at all or cannot you get the audio in the timeline?
Did you copy the entire card to the hdd and then imported the file via the Media Browser?
Did you source patch the audio tracks?

  • Premiere Elements 11. Can't open Project (PREL file) in Windows 8.1.

I have created Project (PREL file) in Premiere Elements 11 in Windows 7 Professional environment. I was able to open it with no problem.
Now I have Windows 8.1. When I am trying to open this project, I have a pop-up saying 'This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed.'
    HELP!!!!!

    Levalt
From what you wrote, this is my understanding.
For each of your projects,  you set up a special save location for the project file (project.prel) and the source media that go into that particular project.
If you have 12 projects,  for each, you have a special save location (the project.file source media combo.)
Each of those 12 projects needs to be exported to a file saved to the computer hard drive. One suggestion might be is to save the export from each into a saved location name Grand Project Source Media.
It is these 12 exports that are going to be imported into the Grand Final product which will be outputted as wanted. At this point, those exports are your source media that needs to stay in contact with the grand projects. The source media that went into the individual 12 projects are out of the equation at this point.
But, back to the point that I was trying to get at. Each of those 12 projects that you start with has to have project settings (aka project preset). And, those project settings should match the properties of whatever you are putting on the Timeline of the each project. The project settings direct the program to set the right space in the Edit area monitor for editing so that you do not have black borders, pixel aspect ratio problems, and the like. So, I want to make sure that you have the right project settings for each project.
Then you need to export the TImeline content from each of those projects. Ideally the export settings should be consistent with the source media properties and the project settings. The ideal is to have this to be the case for all 12 projects.  Cannot advise you about these settings without details...
What is the project preset for the 12 starting project...NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or something else?
If that is your project preset, what are your source media 1080i30, 1080p30, or something else?
I am suspecting that each individual project will be exported to a HD export 1920 x 1080 which might be a Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets set to maybe a .m2t file, maybe .mp4 file. It is all going to depend on a coordinated plan.
If you still have questions and need clarification about the above, do not hesitate to ask. I will explain another way if necessary.
    Thank you.

  • How do I convert a prel file into..

How do I convert a prel file into a mp3, avi, etc. I am needing to upload the video onto youtube and the file is not compatible as a prel. I am using adobe premier elements 12.

    mgroce
Given you have Premiere Elements 12/12.1. (limit...2 GB 15 minutes, even if you have an extended time account at YouTube...the extended time account applies only to file uploaded to YouTube at the YouTube web site)
If your goal is to get a Premiere Elements 12 Timeline uploaded to YouTube, you have two possible routes....
    a. Publish+Share/Social Websites/YouTube and your selection of the preset that matches your Timeline properties
    or
    b. Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with one of the .mp4 preset to export the Timeline content to a file saved to the computer hard drive from where you upload it to YouTube at the YouTube Web site.
For best results, I would suggest an AVCHD.mp4 file instead of the "avi" that you mentioned. What is the video compression that goes with that "avi" wrapper?
As for .mp3, that is a audio file extension, what is your intent on that....an upload to YouTube with just music and with a black video display? YouTube strictly enforces any copyright issues, so please assure that there are none associated with these .mp3 otherwise YouTube will remove them.
Please review and consider, and then let us know if you have the information that you sought.
    Thank you.

  • .prel files will not open in Elements 10

When i try to open a .prel file i get "this type of file is not supported or the required codec is not installed" , i have opened/edited/saved these files many time before without issue. How do i fix this?

    LionkillerArt
Did you say that you were working on Windows or Mac? For now, assuming Windows,
    1. Go to the Adobe Folder in Documents (should be there unless you changed the default).
    2. Locate the project.prel file of interest in Adobe Folder/Documents Folder/Premiere Elements Folder/11.0 Folder. Inside the 11.0 Folder, among some folders and other files, are the project.prel files if you did not do any special organization. Right click the project.prel of interest and select Open With, followed by Premiere Elements 10. Does the project now open?
Do you have any versions of Premiere Elements on your computer except this Premiere Elements 10?
Have you deleted or moved any of the source media that went into your project after you saved/closed any of these projects? Where are your source media stored? If on an external hard drive, is the drive letter of that drive changing on its own?
What happens if you rename one of the problem project.prel files in the Adobe Folder and then try to open it from there?
    Just some thoughts for now.
We will be watching for further developments.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes refuses to play shared .ogg files

I have the xiph codec thing installed for playing ogg files. Ogg files play fine if the files are stored locally on the mac. However, if I try to play the same files when they are stored on another computer on the network, it refuses to play them. Why?
Nearly all my music files are ogg vorbis. I have only one imac running OS X 10.4.
All my other computers are linux based and share their music through Rhythmbox's DAAP music sharing function.
itunes has no problem playing regular mp3 files from shared sources. Only has a problem playing shared ogg files.

I would second Hunt's suggestion about exporting your Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 Timeline Windows to a .mov or .mp4 file for import into the appropriate preset in Premiere Elements 12 Mac.
On the Windows side just verify project settings for the Timeline as well as the export setting under the Advance Button of the preset that you select under Share/Computer/QuickTime (.mov) or Share/Mobile Phones and Players (.mp4).
Please update us on your progress.

I have an .avi file Quicktime is refusing to play, yet the information says Quicktime does play .avi files. Does anyone know what the problem is?

AVI is a legacy file container originated by Microsoft back in 1992 and which has not been officially supported for more than a decade. Like the container, many of the codecs commonly used to create AVI content are also "legacy" compression formats most often supported on PC/Windows platforms. In fact, some codecs have never been transcoded for Mac use. Of those that have, many never made the transition to Mac OS X or the transition to Intel-based platforms. Those codecs that are still supported on the Mac can normally be found in the avi to quicktime converter available as an online download. While some common AVI compression formats may be supported by the QT X Player app, QT 7 currently provides a more compatible AVI playback environment for most "legacy" compression formats. If the codec(s) used in your AVI files are not supported by the avi to quicktime converter for QT use, you can try the VLC media player which may still support more esoteric compression formats. If  VLC does not support the files, the normal approach is to discover which specific audio and/or video codecs were used to create the file and perform an Internet search to see if a compatible Mac component is available for download.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
You cannot open one Premiere Elements project file (project.prel) in another Premiere Elements project.
And you cannot open Premiere Elements Windows project files in Premiere Elements Mac or vice versa.
Two possibilities for Premiere Elements projects (same computer operating system)....
    a. Export your TImeline content from one project to a file format consistent with the second project's project settings and import that export into the second project .
    b. Windows Only. Do a Copy/Paste Insert from one project to another using ClipMate in Conjunction with Premiere Elements.

  • Prel. file freeze

I have a new computer with Win7 and have recently imported dozens of video8, Hi8 and mini DV tapes with Premiere - all without a hitch. Now, following the import of a video, Premiere freezes up before creating the prel. file. The mpeg file created seems to be intact, but even after reimporting the file, the program freezes up (crashes) when trying to create a prel. Help please. Reinstallation?

    Zoorothrecat
The answers will be in the details. Lots to consider, including whether or not one file is the culprit in the freezing or whether a multitude of factors are contributing to the issue.
    Q&A
    1. What version of Premiere Elements are you using? And, on what operating system is Premiere Elemens running...Windows 7 32 or 64 bit?
    2. Are your source media all SD 4:3 or other? What are you or the program setting as the project preset in the New Project Dialog for the project? At this point, is the problem confined to just one project and the introduction of one specific file? Do the problems set in essentially when you have packed the Timeline with the assortment of your source media?
    3. Especially since you write that
"...have recently imported dozens of video8, Hi8 and mini DV tapes with Premiere..."
What do your computer resources look like...available RAM and free hard drive space (is your hard drive space all from the Local Disk C or Local Disk C plus supplemental drive (external or internal)? Is your computer optimized (ccleaner etc)?
    4. Have you checked for preview file and conformed audio files in the Adobe Folder?
    5. Are any of your problems remedied by opening a new project or shutting down the computer and restarting it?
    6. Before considering Deactivation/Uninstall/Reinstall, please try deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which is in the Users path. If Windows 7, then
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    version number (11.0, 10.0 other)
