Preload Data Forms in Planning

A best practice identified with Hyperion Planning is to preload the most commonly used data forms in order to reduce the initial load time for these forms when they are first access by users. What approach do you recommend to actually preload the forms? I assume this activity is scripted. If so, what scripting tool is used? Any other tips/tricks to go along with this that I should be aware of?

Here is the link on Oracle Support to where they provide the recommendation: Oracle Support Document 779502.1 (Hyperion Planning Data Form Design Considerations) can be found at: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=779502.1
When Planning is first loaded, the first few requests to Planning can take longer because caches might not be loaded. It is recommended that an administrator or power user pre-load the most commonly used data forms before the general community uses the Planning server after each reboot to the Planning server.
We are on 11.1.2.2 Planning and experience less than ideal load time for many of screens on initial load - both for data forms and other screens - using either the ADF interface or classic interface. For the forms it doesn't matter how much data is being retrieved - I could have a form fixed on one single block and still takes a considerable amount of time to load it in my browser (both IE and FF). The next person into the system though is fine since I assume it is pulling it from cache.
I'll add an SR in Oracle Support to get more details and post what they recommend.

  • Error while saving data form in planning

    Hi,
We are getting the below error while saving the data form in planning
"There was an error during the save process"
i believe our form is not exceeds 255 columns we were able to access the same form till yesterday
can any one please help me on this

One reason could be that the blocks that you are trying to save are locked either through excel-addin or someone else might be updating the same combinations. I have encountered such issues earlier and got the same error. Check if there are any locks in essbase while you are saving the planning data.

  • How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning

    Hi,
I need for building Data Form in Planning 11.1.2.0 with table columns that would be consist of (example 1):
    - Nov 2011 - Actual
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Forecast
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast
Note: current period is "Feb" and current year "2012" has been got from Essbase substitution variables.
How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning app using @relative function for period and year dimensions and Essbase substitution variables?
Example 2 (for current period is "Mar" and current year "2012"):
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Actual
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Apr 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast

As I know you can't use such range or functions in form member selection. Below are couple of options:
Use bunch of variables for each scenario and the number depends on how many months you want to display (18 months etc..)
pre-fill the data for related months and years and use data suppress options.

  • Creating data form in planning

Hello! I am using EPM 11.1.2.1.0
I want to get the data form in planning:
    POV: Entity(E), Currency(Local), Version (Version1)
Pages: Year (FY13, FY14, FY15), Period (_all days_)
    Row: Account (all accounts)
Column: Scenario (*Plan*, Actual, Deviation: Plan - Actual, The percentage of the plan execution: Actual / Plan)
All Acounts is TB Last (Balance), Period (Year-Quarter-Month-Day), Scenario (Plan, Actual)
I have filled all account for Plan Scenario on quarters (but for days and moths are empty, because planning of budget is quarterly) and for Actual Scenario I have data on days, moths, quarters, year.
I need a data form on specific date of Plan!
    And I create Scenario member Plan_qtr in planning with formula with essbase substitution variable VarDate : Local->FY13->"Version1"->"Plan"->@RELATIVE(&VarDate,3);
(I think, planning user variable can not be used in the formula member in planning), but how to dynamically change the value of substitution variable from planning?
Is there a way to link Essbase Substitution Variables and Planning User Variables?
That is, is it possible to somehow change the value of substitution variable in essbase, changing the value of Planning User Variables on the data form?
Please, advice others methods for building this data form.
    Big thanks for any help!!!

    Hi,
all data exists at the intersection of all dimensions - so I do not see how your form would work without certain dimensions.
However, you may want to create certain 'non-members' like 'NoPeriod', 'NoEntity' if for some reason you need data that exists without reference to these dimensions. (You would still have to select them in your form design)
What are you trying to achieve with regards to your second question - is this just presentational?
    regards,
    Robert.

    Hello SG,
first you can simplify your code by just defining <t_xdata> TYPE /1sem/_yth_data_100ZCNA0001. (No need for the dynamic type assignment).
The data of your second InfoCube needs to be a subset of the selection in your planning package. Check that the second area is also selected for example. Use the criteria in LISTCUBE (on the corresponding MultiProvider) to check that the selection works. Execute the planning function with trace. This shows you what data was selected.

  • Member range in Data Forms

We have recently upgraded from 9.3.1 to 11.1.2.1 and have noticed some errors on our data forms in Planning.
    We have created 12 Essbase substitution variables to handle the periods in our rolling forecasts (mon1, mon2, mon3, mon4, mon5, mon6, mon7, mon8, mon9, mon10, mon11, mon12).
All data forms have been configured to use the variables as the period, i.e. in the data grid we set the columns to contain period data and the values to to be "mon1, mon2, mon3, mon4, mon5, mon6, mon7, mon8, mon9, mon10, mon11, mon12"
In certain scenarios we don't forecast all 12 months. In this case the process has been to set all "extra" months to the last forecasted month. For example if we were to forecast Jan through Jun the variables mon1 through mon6 will contain Jan through Jun and the variables mon7 through mon12 will contain the value Jun.
In system 9 in case the forms only display the period Jun once, but in system 11 the period Jun is shown once for each time the variable is in the form.
    System9:
    Jan|Feb|Mar|Apr|May|Jun
    System11:
    Jan|Feb|Mar|Apr|May|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi,
This was a trick that worked fine until 11.1.1.3. It should supposedly work fine in the latest version if Oracle did not fix some things for the worse. I can't really say I've tested this but I would advise you to check couple of things.
In order this to work as expected, all subs. variables that you want repetitions be suppressed should be placed in the same column piece. Placing them in individual columns would result in repeating them multiple times. Meaning, if you place for example year 2 and all months subs. variables in the same column Planning should display the repeated period references once only.

  • Not able to see data in Hyperion Planning data forms.

    Hi ,
I created Hyperion planning EPMA application and loaded data in to it. But I am unable to see data in my data forms? Please give me solution for this?

    Hi,
Here there are 2 things, once your epma heirarchy is ready did you deploy it against your planning App ? and incase if you haven't deployed your planning application, then old outline would be existing in Essbase and if you load data for old outline it will still take into but when you deploy the database gets restructured and older data gets restructured/removed.
Before going onto that level first check if your load data to essbase completed successfully. and did you load data for the combinations on dataform ? ? Try manually inputting a number through data form and submit and do a refresh to see if value comes up. ? Check your data form settings , if you have enables suppress missing rows/blocks.
    Thanks

  • Get cell value in Planning Data form and using it in a business rule

    Hi Everybody,
if i set the data type of an Account Member as text, is there a way to get the value inserted by the user in a dataform, turning it as dimensional member and using it in a business rule?
So, if the user insert the value "USA" in a cell, can i use any functions to tell essbase that "USA" is a dimensional member and then using it in a business rule, for example in a cross-dimension like Period1->FY12->USA?
I tried to use the function @Member and it doesn't work, but i'm wondering if there is a way that can let me get the value inserted and use it just like a dimensional member. What are the ways that can let user input value that can be used in a business rule? I think one is by using SmartList, is there any other ways? Maybe using variables?? As an alternative i tried to use Prompt Variable but there are too many members on which the rule must run.
Please help me, i wanna know if i can or not let the user input the member on which the rule must run...
    Thank all guys
    Bye
    Maurizio

    Thanks EW for your answer,
YesI could use SmartList even if i think it's very tough to handle. My experience on using SmartList in caclc script is not so good. I try to enter in details of my requirement:
    I have 500 account members.
For each one, I have to calculate the monthly budget by sharing the amount among the months. The user wants to calculate it on the basis of the actual flow(over the months) of an unspecified account of the prior year. The unspecified account must be inserted in a data form.
So, i could use a Smart List but it colud be of 500 elements and then i should make a rule with as many IF as how many are the accounts. Or im wrong? The only way to use smart list dynamically in a business rule is by referring its values in a IF condition. Or i'm wrong.
I tried to use execution variable ma it seems don't work. In this case the user must pay attention to write the account correctly, otherwise as you say the rule doesn't work.
The value in PD0A020 is "PD0A000" (that is a dimensional member). The value in PD0A000 is "hello". In PD0A040 the rule returns "PD0A000" and not "hello" as i would. The function @Member appears to be not able to catch the dimensional member by the value in PD0A000.
    {Example}="test"->"Input"->"Scenario_test"->"FY12"->"PD0A020";
    Fix("test1","Input","Scenario_test","FY12")
    "PD0A040"=@Member({Example});
    endfix
So, my doubt is: is it possible for Essbase/Planning to use the value inserted in a data form and to turn it in a dimensional member? What are the practicable ways to let the user input/choose the member on which makes the rule run?
Thank you Ew, thank you guys
    Maurizio

  • User access to "planning " data forms

    hi
    iam newbie to planning
i have two different doubts in planning
i have created a application in eas called "blue " in eas console and loaded the data and retrieved in excel , iam able to see the data . mean while i have created planning application called "gt" and its created sucessfully, i can able to "gt" see in the eas console . i wanted to get the data from "blue" in eas into planning "gt" dataforms i created a user called "blue" in shared services console , i decided to give the privilege to "blue" in eas , i clicked on the default application to blue application but was nt there ,but it showing separtely , i clicked on that and assigned roles like "administrator" and cube creator and planner
    my doubt is that
1: when i logon "gt " planning application and created dataform folder i want to access the essbase application "blue" data, but there is no user available in that dataform
iam confused whether i should give privileges to default application or "gt " i find both of them in shared services console
clearly my doubt how to link eas "blue" with planning "gt " and datas form blue should be retrived in gt dataform
    iam using epm11

    Hi,
I am not totally sure what you are trying to achieve but if you create an essbase application in EAS it is a totally seperate entity from a planning application, so you can't just access it directly.
The are many options on what to do but it needs to be clearer why you have to access the data from a seperate database.
If there is a commonality in the dimensions then it would have been possible to create an extra plan type when you created the planning application, this creates an extra database as part of the planning application.
The other options are to use XREFs to access data from one to cube to another.
Another option would to use partitions.
You could extract the data from one cube using an export or DATAEXPORT command and then load it into your planning database or use ODI to extract from one database and load it into the other.
    Cheers

  • Hyperion Planning - Link a web analysis report in a data form

    Hi all,
is actually possible to link a web analysis report in a planning data form? I tried from a custom menu but discovered that isn't possible. Any other way?
    I'm working with Planning 11.1.2.1
    Thanks

    Hi Raffounz
Indeed, it is possible to link a web analysis report in a planning custom menu.
    Follow this procedure :
    - From the explorer :
-> Go to the folder where your web analysis report is stored
-> Right click on the document and left click on "properties"
    -> Copy the "smartCut" link
    - From your planning application :
-> Edit the menu where you want to link your webanalysis report :
-> Create a URL item and past the link in the input field
    Cheers

  • Hyperion planning data form in smartview: problem with summary time period

We are using Planning ver. 11.1.2.2.300.20 and smartview 11.1.2.2.300 (build 070)
    We use common Data Form:
In columns: Periods (Descendants including YearTotal - with no checkbox on start expanded)
    In Rows :accounts
In some of our users computers,
When they open Data Form in Excel (with Smart View) - its appears very strange:
Summary Accounts are displayed as level 0 account in the summary Period columns (i.e. not in grey) and permit entering data.
In addition when Entering data in summary time period (i.e. Year or Quarter),
strangely,  the data doesn't  spread to the descendants months (level 0) .
This phenomenon occurs just in few of the computers.
Please help, how can we overcome this problem?
    Thanks and Regards
    Tami Kedem

    Hi Celvin,
    Thanks for your rapid response!
All computers have the same version of planning and smartview.
The computers where the Periods spreading and aggregation properties in Data form are not working,
do work wonderfully when opening the Data forms in the web.
I've tried everything, (remove suppressing, validations etc.):
In all kind of data forms the spreading and aggregation properties on summary time periods are not working in smartview -
and summary accounts on rows are not displayed in grey and permit entering data.
We remove and reinstall MS-Office (2007) from the problematic computers, but it didn't help.
Do you know if there is any kind of settings or softwares that might cause this phenomenon
i.e. interrupts the smartview translation of the web Data Forms.
    Thank and best regards,
    Tami Kedem

  • How to add a mm-dd-yyyy date field type in a Planning Data Form

    Hi John,
pls, I have one question regarding the possibility of adding a date field type for example 03-03-2009 in a cell of Planning Data Form application.
    for example, I created:
    - 2 members in Period dimension: StartProject and EndProject and I need to enter and track date for these fields;
    - one Account member called Project;
    - and a simple form with these collumns and row;
Trying different settings for my members - seems that I cannot input date in the cell and rcvd errror: "you have entered invalid value".
Pls, can you confirm me if it's possible to enter date type in a form?
If yes, what is the specific setup for the Account and Period properties: Data storage, Time Balance, Data type, Account type etc
    many thanks,
    Robert

    Many thanks John!!! that's it!!!
I had to change it in Data Type evaluation Order because I'm using EPMA and it's working now!!
    Thanks again!!!

    Hi All,
    Working on Planning 11.1.2 (x64)
I tried to generate a Data Form Definition report from Planning and found that I get an error if I select the option "Include member selection list". By going a bit deeper, I realised that it errors for some forms while works fine for others.

Most of these are Substitution Variables. I dont know why it is showing a few lines for "Scenario" as well.

  • Unable to SAVE data through a data form in Hyperion Planning

    Hi,
I recently migrated an application from development to QA using the LCM tool and refreshed the outline into Essbase using Planning Web. Once completed, i loaded the level0 data and aggregated it.
I opened a data form and tried to SAVE data and i get an error stating: "There was an error during the save process".
I tried saving the data using another form and i was successful at it. I re-migrated the data-form i was having an issue with and tried again. Thist time I get an error "Communication error with server. Callback failed for data entry page". This error shows up now on every form and every application.
Any suggestion on how to fix this?

I don't know if that patch will help you or not. It addresses a specific issue related to text data types. Your issue sounds similar, in that it appears to be triggered via the existence of specific data. The issue we were describing above presents itself when opening the form, and not when saving the form. I'm just guessing here, but it sounds as though there is some type of mismatch between the data types that Planning is expecting to display and save on the form, and the format of the existing data in Essbase.
You said that you can't save the form once the data is loaded into a particular version. Here's what I'd do to narrow the issue down:
    1) Copy the data into your version so that the form will NOT save. (ensuring that the issue is present)
    2) Start selectively deleting data from the version. Write a quick calc script that clears certain data, account, by account.
    3) After each selective delete, make a note of the account you cleared. You'll only need to clear accounts that are present on the form.
    4) After each selective delete, refresh the form, and then try to save.
At some point, I expect the save will be successful. You'll then know what data was causing the issue. I'm guessing that this data (probably a specific account) will have a data type that doesn't match up with the data in Essbase. It could be defined as a Smart List that wasn't migrated. Or a text value that doesn't exist in the app repository. Something like that.
    Hope this helps,
