Preloader Freezes, then 'Unresponsive Script' Warning

Hi folks-
This is my first Edge Animate project.
I have created a simple cross-fading 'slide show' with moving text overlays using the most recent upgrade of Edge Animate 3.0.0.  8 slides.  The stage isn't that huge: 748x334 pixels.  There is one .png overlay with a transparent interior to create the framing; the 8 slides revealed underneath are all Q50 'saved for web' jpgs averaging under 40kB each.  I have used one of the simple preloaders in the included library and published for web.
My problem presents regardless of which browser I use (tried the latest versions of Firefox, IE, Safari, Chrome and Opera), and whether I run the published .html solo (hosted on my server), or embedded in the final web page it's destined for.  Also, I get the same result when I use Ctrl-Enter from within Edge Animate to preview in my default browser (Firefox).
The problem is that the preloader gif only runs briefly, then freezes, followed by up to a minute of waiting (sometimes even more) before the first slide appears and the animation begins.  Solo'd, it's just the frozen animated gif during the wait.  Embedded in the final web page, the whole page, including navigation, is unresponsive until after the wait is over.
Depending on the browser, I will get various warnings.  In Firefox I get the 'Unresponsive Script' warning and it identifies the unresponsive scripts as:
http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.0.3/jquery.min.js:4
Or
http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.0.3/jquery.min.js:5
Or
http://animate.adobe.com/runtime/3.0.0/edge.3.0.0.min.js:166
Or
http://animate.adobe.com/runtime/3.0.0/edge.3.0.0.min.js:45
Sometimes I've selected 'cancel script'; sometimes I've selected 'wait for script to finish';  it doesn't seem to matter which one I select.  Sometimes it works immediately after making either selection;  In some cases I get the warning message 2-3 times before it finally works.
I've tried both hosting the runtime files myself and on Adobe CDN.  I've also tried 'Immediate' and 'Polite' for the preloader.  It makes no difference.
I've also disabled all add-ons in Firefox and the result is the same, though it may take less time to recover from the freeze.
I ran a speed test and my current download speed is 13mbps, so I can't believe my paltry image files are taking this long to load...and even if they were, shouldn't the preloader continue to animate during the load?
Has anyone else seen this behavior? I sure am hoping for a solution~!
When I created something similar to this in Flash a couple years ago, it didn't even need a preloader it loaded up and ran so fast...
Quite Puzzled,
       bOB

hi bOB,
I know your post has been long time ago, however recently I'm having the same issue you had, except the errors messages you're getting, my preloader stays at the same point unless I hit reload page on the browser and finally loads it. Are you still having the preloader issue even with the most recent Edge Animate version?
Thanks,
Paco

Every time I open a site I get the "unresponsive script" warning. Then randomly throughout my web surfing. It's a constant occurrence. In fact, I've yet to go a single session without receiving a warning. For several days I was logging each message by using print screen, then saving under paint. If these are required to rectify this issue, I'd gladly send them.

  • Mozilla plug-in checker gives and error message (retry) over and over. Also I always get an unresponsive script warning when I run Firefox

There are two questions here. One is about the Mozilla plug-in checker, which generates an error massage asking me to retry. When I do it does the same thing over again.
the second is bout the unresponsive script warning I get when ever I'm on firefox

what does "unresponsive script" warning mean?

I'm having the same problem with Firefox 19 on both OS X and Windows 7. It seems to be tied to Facebook (which I have as a pinned tab). I don't have to force quit though - just hit the 'stop script' button and things proceed as usual.
I've a bug report into Firefox - if you don't have Facebook open in a tab, I don't know why you're getting the same error message.

"Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''

  • Unresponsive script warning

I keep getting a warning about an unresponsive script. And do I want to continue or stop the script. What does this mean? I know it slows down my laptop and I have to reboot it. What can I do to stop this unresponsive script?

The script in question is part of a Web page provided by a Web site you are currently accessing.  the problem is sloppy programming by the author of a web page. There is no need to re-boot your Macintosh.
The effect is limited to that page running in that Browser. Telling it to terminate the script, Closing that Web Browser window, disabling javascript, or force-quitting Safari will all terminate the problem.

  • Freeze then Permissions Repair "Warning'

I just had my 4 month old iMac completely freeze up after a Software Update. After I restarted I ran Repair permissions and (along with a bunch of other stuff) found the following message:
+Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.+
+Group differs on "private/etc/cups", should be 0, group is 26.+
Is this anything I should be worried about?

No. See, Mac OS X 10.5- Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions reports issues with SUID files.

  • Firefox will no longer open. getting "unresponsive script" warning. Script:chrome://tavgp/content/libs/include.js:595

I have been using Firefox as my home page for years. This week it will not open. Instead I get a window per question above.

This issue can be caused by an AVG extension (tavgp) that isn't working properly.
    See:
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

  • Evernote keeps giving the unresponsive script warning every time I load it. Evernote will frequently cause this problem if I leave it open in its own tab. This does not happen in google chrome

I have 3Gig Ram on xp pro. AMD dual core 4600. Hard Drive 7200rpm. I have adjusted the load time in "about:config"
I usually have this problem with just evernote

Evernote has an extension for Firefox, which I saw no point of installing, because I can probably do whatever it is going to help me with, but the description was too sketchy to know whether that is true or not, and the extension is far too large that even if it was important -- I would still not install the extension.
    * Evernote Web Clipper :: Add-ons for Firefox (1.9 MB)<br>https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/evernote-web-clipper/
I can copy and paste from HTML into EverNote, it seems to me that the only thing I would be missing is that I would have to paste the source url and a timestamp in separately. If you did install the extension what do you gain from it.

  • I can't open Firefox, it gives me Warning: Unresponsive Script,

Every time I try to open it gives me the Unresponsive Script Warning, the script is 'Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623'
If I press Stop Script, it comes back after 2 seconds, if I press Continue, it comes back later as well. Only when I check 'dont ask me again' and press continue does it not come back, but it takes up to 99% of my CPU.
It even comes up when I try to start FireFox in safe mode.
How do I get past the warning, and actually be able to use Firefox?

You need to uninstall or disable Personas Plus 1.6, it is causing similar problems for quite a few people.
Start Firefox in safe mode, you can then access the add-ons manager and uninstall or disable Persona Plus 1.6
For details on doing the above see the [[safe mode]] article. There are more details on uninstalling add-ons via safe mode in the [[Cannot uninstall an add-on]] article. That article also shows how to manually remove add-ons.

  • Got Unresponsive script message. Whether I click on Stop script or Continue, it doesn't respond and browser has freezer. Can't even restart my iMac.

I clicked on a link and immediately got "Warning: Unresponsive script." Clicking Stop Script or Continue does not make a difference. It just froze or got hung.
I just got your email asking me to confirm the account I created with the username marlener by clicking on the link provided on the email. I clicked on it but it's not going anywhere because my Mozilla browser has frozen. Like I said, I can't even close it. I attempted to restart my iMac but it won't because it says I have to close Mozilla first.
I often get the Unresponsive script warning now that I've switched to iMac. I don't remember getting this msg too often on my Windows desktop. Is Mozilla more incompatible with iMac compared to Windows?
The screen has now turned white but the box with the warning msg is still up and I still am unable to close the browser.
The menu at the top doesn't show so there is no Help window for me to open.

Firefox may become very slow to respond because of badly coded JavaScript causing infinite loops on certain websites [28]. This problem can usually be cleared by closing the window or tab for that website. You can also temporarily disable JavaScript to view the problem site, but the website may not work without JavaScript. Read Firefox CPU usage for more information and also see the related article,Unresponsive Script Warning.
If the web site hangs Firefox (you can't even exit Firefox) try running in Safe Mode and see if you can get an Unresponsive Script Warning. Watch the status bar and see if this frequently occurs while it mentions a specific URL. If so, try blocking that URL using a content-blocker such as Adblock Plus. The problem URL may be fetching an advertisement or side panel that you can do without.
If none of this helps, try using a different browser (such as IE or Opera) or try accessing the site at another time. This might help you determine if the problem lies with Firefox, a poorly designed website, or content that changes over time, such as ads.

  • Warning unresponsive script came up but won't let me stop the script or continue it or anything. help!

I'm on a MacBook air. I tried to close Firefox and it won't let me, I tried uninstalling it and won't let me, and I tried shutting down my computer and still won't let me do anything! Someone please help me! I already called Apple and they said they couldn't help me because Firefox isn't part of them. Also Firefox really needs to get a customer service number!

    Hi OliviaMancia,
I understand that you have an installation of Firefox that is giving you the unresponsive script warning. I also understand that you filed this for Firefox for Android as well as Desktop?
None the less, please see [[Warning Unresponsive script - What it means and how to fix it]] for Desktop. As for the mobile version please try the add on Noscript or Adblock Plus to block some unwanted scripts.
Unfortunately Mozilla currently does not have the resources to maintain a Support line.

  • Why is firefox crashing or closing on its own, I get plug-in crashes and unresponsive script warnings?

Firefox is closing on its own or crashing for no reason. I've put in at least 4 crash reports a day. I'm also getting plug-in crashes and have sent those reports in. Also, I'm getting lots of unresponsive script warning messages. At first I thought it was Facebook but it is now doing it on GMail so is it Firefox?

I am not sure I did this right. This is what I did: right-mouse clicked on the desktop, whent to properties, went to display properties, went to settings, clicked on advanced tab, and then clicked on troubleshooting tab. There I drug the hardware acceleration slider to the left to disable it, clicked ok twice as directed, restarted the computer and then I couldn't get firefox to open at all, but I went to internet explorer and got on you tube and tried to watch a video, but it crashed again.
So I don't think that worked. I couldn't figure out how to disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin, but did it on the desktop instead. Are there different steps I need to take to accomplish this?
    Thank you!

  • Unresponsive script message comes up during a file download causing catch22

When I am attempting to download files (save as), I get the file selection menus, and, while this menu is up I get the unresponsive script warning. At this point I cannot do anything on the save file menu because apparently Firefox is waiting for a response from me to either continue or stop the script, but I cannot change focus to the warning message so i can press continue. The only thing i can do is force quit on Firefox and restart it. This does not seem to happen on all websites, but more than one. If i could just switch focus i would check the "don't show this again" box, but I cannot even do this.

  • Unresposive script warning as follows: Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsBlocklistService.js:648

Every time Firefox is first opened on restarting my computer, it opens very slowly, finally giving the unresponsive script warning Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsBlocklistService.js:648. This '''''really''''' slows things down. I tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling; it didn't help. I'm running Windows XP Media Center edition Version 2002 with Service Pack 2.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
