Preloading each slide individually

Hi I've seen many posts about the large file sizesof an exported presentation - I am having the same trouble, 24 slides imported from powerpoint, with an audio track for each one. The slideshow itself isn't so bad, but the audio tracks for each (even as a compressed mp3 format) average 300-900 kb each, so the collective presentation has become around 15mb - very slow preload time when preloading the entire presentaion all at once.
The way it's set up, I have a navigation bar that lists each slide, and it's exported as a .swf with the intent to stream over the web... is there a way to set up a preload for each individual slide to help (greatly) reduce the overall download time? If not, are there any suggestions to help optimize it a little better?

Hi Adrian
When you record movies in Captivate, you have a choice in how
they are recorded. By default, automatic mode is enabled. (Click
Options > Recording Options... > Recording Options tab and
see if there is a check mark in the "Enable auto recording" check
box. Normally this is enabled by default and I'm guessing it is
enabled here.
Now, take a look at the Recording mode drop-down. Here is
where you probably changed something and failed to realize it. If
you choose Demonstration, the resulting movie should just play
along without pausing. But if you choose either of the Simulation
modes, interactive objects are inserted that typically pause the
movie at each slide. This results in the behavior you are
describing. So how do you fix this?
1. You *could* simply change the recording mode back to
Demonstration, then re-record the movie
OR
2. You could edit each slide to remove any interactive
objects (Click Boxes, Buttons or Text Entry Boxes), then adjust the
timing so things play through as desired.

You can't preload each slide separatly in Captivate unfortunately. The only solution that I see is to use a Flash loader on each slide to load the relevante slide.
Basically you could use your Captivate project as a "Master project" that only contains Flash Loader files. The loaders will the load the relevant Captivate SWF at run-time. This would allow your master project to be pretty small and preload each SWF before playback.
Of course this would require a custom Flash loader or a Loader Widget to handle the loading of your Captivate SWFs. It would also result in you having a large number of external files since all the Captivate slides need to be published separatly.

I don't like that approach for adult learners, cannot refrain from mentioning that.
Don't use a playbar but create custom navigation. You'll need a next button on each slide that appears after the audio (in timeline). Since slides will not all have the same duration you'll need an individual button per slide, a shape button on master slide or timed for the rest of the project will not be possible.

Add music to each slide

Hmmm ... seeing as how you're a new Mac user, I can understand at least some of your frustration and impatience. However, you've got to learn. (You may hate me for this ...) You're best off if you first learn to use Help - in this case, KN help. You can easily find the answers to at least some of your questions, like how to put music on a slide, or over the whole presentation, both of which are easy.
What you can't do easily (intuitively) is to have the music playing over just a few slides. But a functional work-around is to make a separate presentation out of each set of slides which has the same music (or music on a few, then some other music, or nothing, on a few more, etc.). Then connect the presentations with HYPERLINKS (look that up in Help, too). The whole shebang runs more smoothly if you open all the separate parts before you begin.
If you have any problems with any of this, get back.

I think I will do this. I will use my apple ID and set face time and message to work independently. That solves one problrem. My other problem and maybe my bigger problem is that if I am using my apple ID, how do I iflter all of this so that my kids don't see my contacts, get my apps, etc. ?

Not a good idea! The "show duplicates" feature shows "all" duplicate tracks, but you only want to delete the "extra" copies, not the "originals".

How to create buttons for each slide in slideshow

I currently have a slideshow working with prev and next buttons,
but would like to add numbered buttons for each slide at bottom of images,
with a static number for the active slide that has a colored circle around that number.
I can create static number with colored circle in Photoshop and add that to a layer,
but it's labor intensive to do that for all numbers.
Is there a better way to create the highlighted numbers for active slide?
For numbered buttons that link to non-active slides, I can create numbers in Photoshop and import images into Flash,
then convert to symbols and assign actions for them,
But that too is labor intensive to do for all the numbers.

Try to think in terms of having reusable symbols. Think it thru before you try it.
Use a movieclip symbol instead of a button. Have a dynamic textfield in that movieclip for the number, and set the textfield to not be selectable. Have one frame of this movieclip where it displays as the highlighted (selected) one and have the movieclip go there where you are on that slide.
Use the textfield for the number--assign it dynamically so that you don't have to import an image for it. Use as many of these movieclips as you need to for all your buttons.
Have functions that reset all the buttons at once so that when you move to a new slide, the previously selected one goes back to mormal... follow that with setting the newly selected one to be in its "selected" frame.

I accidentally hit "download all" in itunes on my iphone 5. Is there a way to stop this without going thru each song individually and pausing it?

I was just going to let the songs download, but shortly into it I got a message saying I had used 50% of data plan for MONTH, so I panicked and was just pausing each song as it started downloading. There's several hundered songs. Then I got a message saying I had used 75% data! I turned on my airplane mode to stop everything. Is there an easy way to stop the songs from ALL downloading without going thru each one individually? I'm not very tech saavy, so please be nice and use small words... Thanks.

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album. These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer. If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically". Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141. To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar. Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

Don't know what I did, but now can only view my mail as a list ... have to open each email individually... Help! lol just want to return to the normal window configuration, but can't figure out how to do that!

I don't know what I did when I was checking my emails, but somehow I ended up with a large window that displays a list of the emails but not the content of the selected one like before, unless I open each one individually... I tried shutting down, hoping that the email app would restore through some default setting, but it came back the same way... It's probably something simple, but I watched all the tutorials I could find, and there isn't any mention of how to configure the email window.
I played around with the toolbar, trying to figure out how to restore the original window, but nothing worked. I can sort things in many ways that I couldn't care less about! I just want the old setting back that shows the window where the upper half is the latest emails and the bottom half is the opened email that is high- lighted. Help!

HT201060 how can i family share a physical cd with my family members rather than loading onto each device individually

I have just purchased another set of CD's from the store and want to load it to my iPhone through iTunes. I also wish for my family members to have access to these albums the same way as if I had purchased it through iTunes. Is this possible or must I load it onto each device individually. The main reason for me asking this is because I have a much larger memory on my phone (and also a much larger music collection) than my family members and it would be much easier to share my music this way rather than them constantly having to rip/delete their music to listen to new CD's (due to their limited memory constraints).

iPhoto shows you these Titles but the Finder shows you Filenames
If you export (File -> Export) you'll get the Export dialogue. Note the option at FileName to use the Title as filename for the exported photo

How do I share a Keynote project as Quicktime with narration on each slide?

I have a Keynote presentation with narration embedded in each slide. It plays fine as a self-timed show. I tied everything together by "recording" the presentation (with no extra sound). This second version of the show plays fine within Keynote, starting always at the first slide. When I try to share this second show as a Quicktime, the sound is hit-or-miss: part of the narration on some slides, all of it on others, none at all on others. The total length of the QT movie matches the playing time of the Keynote presentation, but the sound is whacko. My workaround was to do a screen capture with iShowU, but I would like to know the solution to the problem within the Keynote program. I would appreciate hearing any ideas anyone may have. Thanks.
