Prelude does not rename .mxf-clips

I know Prelude will not rename the files of a complex folder structure like .mxf-recordings from Canon C300 or XF305. However, It's supposed to enter the chosen name in the "Dublin Core->Title" metadata field. On my Prelude v.2.2. this does not work. (I have tested on 3 different Mac's)
If i remove the .XML (or the .CIF)-file from the subfolder of a clip on the card, the renaming works. If I ingest a card, and then use this new instance of the card as the source for another ingest, the renaming works. If I copy the .XMP-file from a ingested clip back to the original clips folder (on the original card, leaving the rest of the files untouched), the renaming works...
This seems to indicate that Prelude has a problem reading the metadata from camera, but does anybody know a workaround to make this work?

Hi,
Thank you for the post.
I'd like to confirm my understanding about this issue, please kindly answer my questions below.
1. There is no XMP-file in the original clip folder, right?
2. Are you using the "Rename" function to do the rename or are you trying to rename the clip by entering the name in the filed "Dublin Core->Title" in the metadata panel directly?
3. Does the "On my Prelude v.2.2. this does not work" mean the rename is ignored, or you can see some error dialog popped-up? or some error message in the event panel?
I was able to reproduce a rename failure issue in Prelude 2.2 with a CanonXF clip through the "Rename" function, the clip doesn't have XMP file during importing, this issue has been fixed in the coming release. So I want to double confirm if that is the same issue as yours since I didn't encounter the rename failure if I entered the chosen name in "Dublin Core->Title" in the metadata panel directly.
If my finding is not your issue, it would be very helpful if you could send your sample medias to us. Please reach me at [email protected] to get our ftp server information.
Thanks,
Ada

Technically, to make the function keys work you don't need to change the second box to dash. I don't know why I gave that advice, but it isn't necessary. I guess I said that simply because that's what I have it set to.
The reason there are two boxes is so that you can set Exposé to using both the function keys and the mouse. For example, if I have +All Windows+ set to F9 and Secondary Mouse Button, then it will show all open windows if I click F9 or right-click. That is why you actually don't need to have the second boxes for any of these set to dashes. You could set them to your mouse buttons, or if you wanted you could set the first box of any of these to any function key, as long as it isn't set to the same one as the key you want to use for your shortcuts within FCE.
I hope this made sense, I realize that I might not have explained it very clearly.

When exporting as aic cropping does not transfer the clips appear in the original size...how can I fix this??  Aic seems to be the best quality - least compressed - so I would prefer to use it rather than the other options.

If you click on the Photos that Failed to Export collection at the top right does the photo it highlight have a missing indicator?
If you do a test export with just one photo, to your internal drive, does it work?
I adjusted the height of the thumbnails. Still no exclamation points or question marks as noted here.
Also, as to your second question, unfortunately no as noted here.
And as to your last question, I have tried several times to export them to my desktop (which would be on my internal drive, not external). I've even gone so far as to put a copy folder of my original NEF files onto my desktop (7 gb worth) to see if that would help me export...it didn't.

  • Batch Action - Does NOT Rename Files Properly

    have CS3 on XP
I am doing a batch rename. The batch transfers the images from folder to folder like I want and performs a reduce size to 600pix action I created...but it DOES NOT rename the files to what I tell it.
I want the files original name to have the word "WebSize" added to the filename before the extension. I set this up in the batch. What I get is the original File names.
Now I did Do a file "save as" in the original action because I wanted to limit final file size to 100k per jpeg file size. I checked the override...and unchecked the override...neither setting alloows the new name to be made...just the original file name.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Suzzie

Your action doesn't to seem to include any Open actions. Why do you have the "Supress" option enabled?
Also, since your action has the two save commands, you would just leave the Destination set to None. Setting a Destination means that is going to save the files again.
The problem you'll run into though is that the action also saves the file name as part of the action, so that you'll end up just saving over the one file each time the action is played back on your 400 files. So Photoshop will process all the files, but each time it will overwrite the first file, so you'll end up with one file in each folder. Normally, in these situations, you'd use the Destination setting and use the "Overrride Action "Save As" Commands", which would substitute the Destination folder for whenever a Save command is used. The problem here is that you can only choose a single destination folder, so all files would be saved to the same location.
Short of scripting this, it may be best to break this into two separate actions.

  • Behavior does not work after clip reposition

I create a title layer (Layer1) and add three behaviors (Grow/Shrink, Fade In/Fade Out and Spin) to it. Works perfectly. Then I make a copy of this layer (Layer2)  apart of the Layer1. This one also works. But after I shitf Layer2 on timeline to make it partially superimposed with Layer1, Spin behavior stops to work for Layer2. It does not work even after I turn the layer back to its initial position. Any ideas, why does it happen?

I advocated the FF 20 Beta 4 because it worked perfectly the first time I invented the fix and tried it. I remembered specifically that the problem started with FF21 and so I decided at last to go back to the last version that I KNEW worked. I was 100% on the mark, in my case at least.
I tried everything, and I am quite methodical about what I do. The FF 20 Beta 4 fix works perfectly for me. The hardware acceleration checkbox does nothing for the problem.
I put up with this major pain in the butt for too long and finally solved it for myself. I am a happy camper now with my fix.
That said, are you telling me that FF 23 has fixed the bug? That would be great!
I am very busy right now, but when I get a chance, I will try it and post back my results.
Anyone else trying the beta 23, please report back.
As to your Java question, I'm not sure there is a connection at all. I just decided that if I was going to do a clean FF 20 b4 install, I wanted Java stripped out and reinstalled too. Let me say that I stripped out Java several times in the last couple months to address the freeze, but it didn't help.
IMO, Firefox itself was the problem
FF20b4 - no problem, and I'm happy as a clam now.

  • Renaming nef files does not rename corresponding xmp files.

I just renamed all my files using Lightroom (select all; rename files)
Unfortunately, this did not rename the correponding xmp files. Since this is irrevercible, I'm now in a tight spot. I'm stuck this thousands of files with "lost" xmp files
Is this a known bug? If not, how do I report it as a bug?
(Also, it is very annoying that the renaming changes the file creation dates! This pretty much destroys my backup routine..)

Regarding your screenshot: I see the modified date is before the creation date.. That implies that the file was copied after it was created (that's standard windows behavior - more here if you're interested: http://www.techrepublic.com/article/build-your-skills-learn-to-manipul ate-file-time-stamps-in-windows )
This behavior is excactly what I'd hope LR wouldn't have. I'm guessing LR renames by copying the file and deleting the original - failing to update the new file with all properties of the original file.
    Einar
I think you are misunderstanding the screenshot. Lightroom renaming has no effect here, all the dates/times shown are 10 days before I renamed them with the sequence number. In other words, there is no "copy then delete the original", Lightroom uses the OS to handle file system-level changes, and "rename" retains all original date properties. When I renamed them using Lightroom, nothing was changed apart from the file-name.
"Date Modified" will normally be before "Date Created" unless shooting tethered, as after capture the image is subsequently copied to hard drive....that subsequent copy retains the original Date Taken and Date Modified values, but the copy will have (as you say) the Date Created set to the (usually) later system time. In this instance the card was removed from the camera immediately after the shots were taken and the images imported into Lightroom, which explains the small one minute difference between Date Modified and Date Created. But you shouldn't interpret that time difference in any other way, it is entirely normal and expected.

  • Roughcut sequence from Prelude does not appear to be "seamlessly" editable in Premiere Pro CC

    Hi,
    Please Help.
I have been working on a film and created the entire rough cut, using both entire clips and sub clips, in Prelude CC. Once I sent the rough cut to Premiere Pro CC, I expected that I could "seamlessly" (as advertised) continue editing the same sequence of clips and sub clips in Premiere Pro. When I drag and drop the rough cut file that appears in Premiere Pro into the Premiere Pro timeline, it appears as a single block (is that what a "nested sequence" is? is there a way to un-nest a sequence?) instead of a sequence of clips and sub clips.
What is worse, the sub clips do not transfer to Premiere Pro, only the entire original clips. Even if I had to re-create the sequence of clips and sub clips in Premiere Pro, it would at least be better if I didn't have to re-do all of the sub clips. This is incredibly frustrating. I hope there is a solution (other than waiting to buy the next version of the same product).
I would give up and assume that the products just were not designed for what I was expecting them to be designed for, except that in the video tutorials, both within Adobe and elsewhere, the two programs seem to work just as I expected them to (that is probably where I got that expectation actually). When the guy in the video sends a rough cut from Prelude to Premiere Pro, It pops up in Premiere Pro as an editable sequence of clips and sub-clips.
    Thank you.

Often when sequences come in as 'one lump' this check box need to be altered

  • FCP does not save captured clips

During Log and Capture, everything works fine. I can control the camera and the preview shows as it captures. However once I press esc to stop the "capture now" nothing happens. Normally the clip should appear in the browser window in my bin, but nothing happens. The clip is not even on my computer because I checked my capture scratch folder as well. After pressing esc i also get an error message "General Error: An unknown capture error occurred."

Disconnect all devices from the computer except the camera, keyboard and mouse. Make sure the camera is turned on, correctly configured for HDV output with iLink off. Launch the application and set the correct HDV setting that matches your media? What is that? Is the camera recognized? If no, check system profiler. If yes, open log and capture. What do you do next and what happens when you do it?
tried that and still doesn't work. im using HDV 1080i the sony preset. The preview shows during Capture Now but when i press esc, nothing happens and the clip is not saved.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
There are so many different codecs for video that you've landed on one that doesn't have a mac version installed.
First port of call, the Pentax site and see if they have an updated version for Mac.
Second, try install Perian: http://perian.org/ It's a collection of Codecs for QT that might help.

  • SmoothCam does not load into clip

Although previously posted, it was never answered.
I have viewed the FCP6 tutorial on how to add the SmoothCam FX plug-in into a clip. And although I followed the instructions diligently, nothing happens: no processing window, no effects plug-in in the browser, nada. Help, please.

    Freddy Silva,
Reading your post about SmoothCam prompted me to find it and use it to smooth some scenes taken on a journey the old train in Majorca.
This is the first first time I have used it.
I went to "help" in FCP, typed SmoothCam and it appeared.
A red rectaganol appeared around the clip in the CANVAS window with a yellow bar reading "analysing majorca April 08 estimated time eleven minutes".
So I let it run and the result was a much smoother clip.
    Hope it helps you.
I do not know if this is the correct way, it worked for me.
I must state I am very much a novice and would defer to any instruction by the two very experienced users who have answered you before my post.
Let me know if it works for you.
    Michael.

  • Adobe Production Premium CS3 does not support MXF files

My computer crashed the other day and I had to install Adobe Production Premium CS3 on another computer. I noticed when I tried to start a new project there was not an option under Presets for DVCPROHD and when I tried to import my files with Bridge I get an error message stating "File Format Not Supported". What can I do to resolve this issue?
    Thanks,

    Here's what one guy wrote in another forum;
    >"ON THE SONY 6 foot plasma - the HVX200a stood out with apparently nicer colors, a more filmic look in general with it's 24p motion characteristics that have made it famous, and no artifacting that I could see. Again this was on the 6 foot Sony plasma. The EX1, while looking stunningly sharper than the hvx200a at first glance, is a mess of a camera with all sorts of issues that I really don't understand how anyone deals with. Perhaps I am a complete nut job or I had a broken EX1. I thought people were being overbearing and overexagerated with the rolling shutter, long GOP, and jellovision stories that I have read online, but it really is a serious problem. Now at first glance - on slow cuts and pans - the EX1 image seems to slam dunk the HVX except for some strange look of resolution loss or detail loss that appears to happen right after you start moving the camera for the pan - but the EX1 is so sharp that when it losses its detail (perhaps the codec lowering detail to avoid artifacts...although that of itself IS an artifact) it looks more similar to the HVX200a footage, but on fast whips and very fast handheld stuff I saw all sorts of issues and weird skews and slants that there is no way I could deal with. Philip Bloom may have some amazing images but they are all locked down and I don't do locked all the time down so this camera is out."

  • Pro CS3 v3.0 does not import mxf format(!)

My HVX200 recording format is 720P/24P, the FS-100 DV Format was set to P2 and HDD mode DVCPROHD.
I had transfered all the files from FS-100 to my laptop. When I tried to import them into a project in DV- 24P, I got the "File Import Failure- File format not supported."
    1. What did I do wrong?
    2. How do I save my videos?
    3. Why CS3 New Project HDV has 720P/25 and not 720P/24?
    Thank you,
    Vlad

Thanks Craig, you were right the simple thing should be tried first.
Just to share with nubiz like me, my FS-100, between v1.0 and v4.0 had probably changed the way it organizes the files. The videos recorded post-v4.0 were not in a recently date labeled folder, not in VIDEO folder, but in an pre-v4.0 date labeled folder. That's where I imported from all "w" (the letter identifying the DVCPROHD format) files.
I could not get the audio files, but that's another discussion.

Quicktime does not open video clips in iPhoto when the video clips are double clicked (nothing happens). Quicktime will open the video clip if I open quicktime

It worked. I don't see why the Protected Mode is enabled in the first place, if it were to cause issues.
