Prelude Ingest problem

I recently purchased CS6 Production Premium and am totally new to it. I decided to have a look at Prelude. I ingested a 16 min video file and played around with various buttons etc. trying to make a short clip. I did not save the project changes. When I opened the video in Premiere Pro, and looked for the original file in Media Browser,it only showed a 2 min clip, and not the full 16 mins. The same thing happens when I open in Prelude. I can play the original file in Media Player etc in it's entirety.
I cannot understand what I have pressed to cause this.It would appear the the file has somehow been altered but only when viewed in Adobe programmes.
As soon as I get a chance I will be looking at the tutorials but feel the answer to my question will not readily surface.

Hi Michael
Thanks for your interest.Happy New Year.
This was my first time in Prelude.
I looked around for how to import a file and came to the conclusion that “Ingest “ was the way.
Navigated to my 16 min video and clicked it to ingest.
Once it was in Prelude, on the left side, I highlighted it and dragged to the Monitor panel. At that point I could scroll through the whole video no worries.
I recollect that I scrolled through to 2.27 mins and clicked the icon marked Go to Object end.
At least I think that was it
When I open Prelude now, I cannot see that icon at all, only the monitor section.
I have just tried it again after deleting previous project and it only ingests a 2 min clip even though the one I navigate to is 16 mins long.
I cannot seem to get the left screen I had before with the Object icons on it, only the Monitor screen.
If I use Windows Explorer to get to my 16 min video it has a file size of 3.38G and a time of 16mins showing.
I cannot see how the original file of 16 mins imports as a 2.27 min clip.
Sorry I cannot be more explicit but I was not expecting this sort of problem so did not take that much notice.
It has always been my understanding that the original file remains intact and that I am working on a imported copy to edit.

Brian

  • Prelude Ingest don't work as expected with P2 material.

    Hi!
I try to ingest my footage from P2 card and this is what's happening.
If I just use Ingest dialog windows with P2 mode like just clicking the card, it shows only less than half of the footage as you can see in 2 images of below.
Ok. So tryed to solve the problem and got to the "folder mode" and marking all clip parts and ofcourse check "stitch clips together mark" and choose Transcode to h264. After that, Media Encoder tells me multiple errors. It shows error box "One or more errors occured during ingest. Please check the..." And event window tells "Transcode task failed. Reason: AME unknown error!" and "Concatenate task failed. Reason: AME unknown error!". Adobe mediaencoder errorlog tells "
      - Encoding Time: 00:00:15
    02/06/2014 06:50:36 PM : Encoding Failed
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
So... what can I try next or forget the using Prelude?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your post.
The two images you posted represent the different views of Prelude interprets P2 clips. On the 'File Directory" view, it shows much more footages than the 1st image under the same folder, because there are spanned clips for the two shots. When a shot or take is recorded requiring more than the file size limit of a medium, a file-based camcorder starts another file, and continues recording the shot to that file without interruption.
So, you could do the ingest from either view. For P2 clip, prelude imports all of the spanned clips within a single shot or take as a single clip. No need to transcode.
To import a group of spanned clips, select one of them to import all of them. If you select more than one spanned clip, you will import duplicates of the whole group of spanned clips as duplicate clips in the Project panel.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Ada

  • HPX170 P2 footage ingest problems

I have made two videos describing the problems I am experience with ingesting P2 footage.  Yes, it does work natively.  But the question is, does anyone want to work this way?  It triples my logging time.

  • Prelude ingest

When ingetsing files into prelude the files do not show up in the projects panel and the program lock up not allowing me to ingest anymore files--any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
To locate the problem quickly, I'd like to get more information about the issue you are encountering.
    1. Did you filter the items in the project panel? I want to confirm whether you input some characters in the search edit box, if you did and the new clp didn't match the fiter, it wouldn't be displayed after ingesting, then you could click "x" to omit filtering.
    2. Does it happen every time?
    3. What kind of meida you were using?
    4. Could you please open events panel to see what message is generated?
    Thanks

  • Transcoding in Prelude CC Problem!!

Hello - Prelude CC newbie here, but I need some help as soon as possible.
I'm using prelude to transcode AVCHD files from an SD card to ProRes for use in Premiere. When I use the Ingest menu to select clips for transfer and transcoding, when I select my clips and attempt to check the "transcode" box, the box and text is gray and I cannot click it. What is the reason for this?
    Thanks!   -jeremy

    Hi Jeremy,
Have you enabled Transfer clips to Destination option like below?
Also, hate to state what may be obvious, but you will need make sure Adobe Media Encoder CC also installed and function well for this to work.

  • Prelude ingest seems frozen...

    Hi There
When I go into the ingest panel I can select a folder and the video loads alright but I am unable to select any of the videos which means I cannot ingest any footage. I am running the most recent update of CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 (ASUS ROG G750JX 24gb RAM, 3gb Nvidia GTX 770M)
I have restarted prelude but with no luck. I tried exactly the same thing on my MacBook which which works perfectly fine.
    Hope you guys can help.

    Hi Kevin
Sorry its taken me so long to respond, I was mid project which made me wary of messing with things, didn't want to break anything else. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Prelude but with no luck. I will have to contact customer service, thanks anyway for your help. Wil post any solution I get here.

  • Log and Transfer Video Ingestion problem

I have a Sony camcorder that uses AVCHD on a HD. Problem is that I have clips that don't want to transfer over using Log & Transfer - only the audio is transfering. I can still see the video on the tool, but the preference for bringing over the video is grayed out - only the audio check box is checked, not the video - as a result no video is coming over - just audio clips.
I saw other posts on this topic, but no resolution. I'm using FCP Studio (latest version - I think 7.02. This is quite frustrating. Anyone have an idea? Is it a camera problem or a FCP problem? As I can see the video on the camera and in the Log and Transfer window, it feels like a software glitch.
    Help!

Thanks Tom...so simple...sort of like "did you take the lens cap off?"

  • Avc-intra ingesting problem ou may be just confusion....

I'm using this new HPX-300 with the AVC-INTRA 100 codec. And when i import the content using log and transfer (final cut 7!!!) with avc-intra native plug-in, all that, to apple ProRes 422 hq compression the size of the video is like 14 mb/s is that right (and the video is full of color and complex)? and the quality doesn't look so good too, but this i fink is because of my computer.... AND THE INFORMATION OF THE VIDEO IN THE INFO WINDOW (more info part) IS SAYING:
DIMENDION 1920x1080 --> this is ok but....
CODEC: AI16, LINEAR PMC, TIMECODE ---> why not apple Pro Res 422 (hq) ???
    COLOR PROFILE:HD (1-1-1) ---> This should't be 4-2-2 ?!?!?!?!?!
    DURATION: 02:44
    TOTAL BIT RATE: 116,254
    SIZE: 2.39gb
If some one can explain to me who does this work i apreciate!
And before all Tanks for sharing.

When you import AVCIntra into FCP 7, you have many MANY options. To see these options you need to go into the Log and Transfer preferences, located in the sprocket drop down menu. You can import as AVCI Native, or ProRes, ProRes HQ, ProRes LT, ProRes Proxy, Apple Intermediate Codec... Now when you say that the codec is AI16...that might be Apple Intermediate, not ProRes. Go back and make sure the preferences for that codec are set right.
the video is like 14 mb/s is that right (and the video is full of color and complex)?
It is because the video is HD and complex...yes. To get the footage to an EDITABLE format that FCP can decode and encode, you need to go ProRes, and yes, it can have a higher data rate than AVCI Native.
and the quality doesn't look so good too, but this i fink is because of my computer....
That is because computer monitors do not show you full quality. And FCP doesn't either. It lowers the resolution in order to play back all the frames. To see the full quality you need a capture device and a high quality monitor.

  • Prelude makes multiple copies on ingest

I am a producer/director trying to speed and ease workflow and story development by using Prelude to ingest video files we've shot. I hope to do the initial organizing and rough cut and then hand off to my very experienced editor for the "good stuff".
i download the raw files to a drive, duplicate that and then, when I'm ready, ingest those folders into Prelude. Problem I'd some of the files (only AVCHD)  are duplicated up to 10 times when I ingest. I am mystified.
the obvious thing to do is delete extra copies but what the heck are they there for in the first place? What am I doing wrong? Nothing about this in documentation that I can find.
    Many thanks
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
    Thanks for the extra details.
From the first screenshot I don't see any duplicates. Well, I should be more precise... I see duplicated file names in the project panel, but each name has a unique start Timecode and duration. This leads me to believe they are indeed different file. I cannot see the entire Path column so cannot be 100% about this, but if you expand the width of the File Path column you may see that each duplicated filename is actually pointing to a different location on disk.
A note about how Prelude ingests folders with sub folders. And I'll admit this is certainly a short coming in the product we need to fix. When you import a folder and it contains sub folders with clips in those sub folders, Prelude's Project Panel hierarchy will not replicate the sub folder hierarchy found on your disk. Instead, it will flatten all media file paths on ingest and put all references into the same BIN. I believe this is what you are seeing and why you thought there were duplicates being made. In reality I think there are no duplicates, Prelude is creating a flat organizational structure in the Project.
Some possible steps to help your re-order the assets into meaningful BINs in Prelude:
In the Project Panel click on the column header for the FILE PATH column. This will sort the contents based on that column. Now you can select all the assets from a particular day's shoot and drag-drop onto the new BIN icon at the bottom of the Project Panel to move those assets into a new BIN that you can name to match the day's shoot. I know this is far from ideal but it should save you time compared to starting your ingest over again folder by folder.
Let me know if I'm missing anything here.  Adobe is shut down for the holidays (Dec 20 through Jan 5). Feel free to ask me other questions and I'll do my best to catch them in email. However I am traveling for the holidays and may miss it. If that happens (ie you don't hear back from me before Jan 5), please ping me again.
    Thanks,

  • Importing issue with Prelude/AME

I usually use three cams:  GH4 (MOV) and AF100 & HMC150 (AVCHD).  I primarily shoot 1080p23.98 but occasionally shoot 1080p59.94 for slomo.  I prefer to transcode to ProRes because I find editing much faster, and sometimes I need to pass on footage to other editors who are using FCP7.  problem is, I can't seem to setup a ProRes preset in AME that simply keeps frame rate "same as original" when setting up ingest & transcode in Prelude/AME.  to complicate things further, with the GH4 the MOV files are only seen in the Prelude ingest window as "File Directory" so I'm not even able to show a frame rate column and sort the clips that way to determine the transcode setting relative to each clip.  I also have no way of transcoding my GoPro 720p119.88 footage to ProRes as the highest frame rate option is 59.94.  is there a way to enable "match source frame rate" in AME somehow that I am missing?  maybe I should just file a feature request?

We were in the same situation (11.5.9) about 6 months ago. We found that EBS is not able to support that (we use Cybersource to get the autorization code). Also Cybersource recognizes the authorization request from different systems differently and will just try blocking the funds (though physically this is same request from customer perspective).
We were moving from oracle (old instance) to new instance in Oracle (for reasons specific to client).
We had a date of go live so what did is this: We stopped taking the credit card orders 30 days before (approval code exprires in 30 days in our case). We tried fullfilling the existing orders as much as possible.
For the remaining orders, we had to reauthorize again the let the customer know.
    Thanks

  • Unable to ingest file- "reason:import xmp failed!"

I have been trying to ingest an 8mm video file into prelude and get the error message "reason:import xmp failed!". I have ingested many other 8 mm files with no problems. I tried to import it in to premiere pro and it said file type not recognized. It opens fine in quicktime. It was initially captured into final cut pro as a simple DV-NTSC.
    Any thoughts from anyone?
    Thanks very much.
    Ken

Hi Wes - The only place I can upload it, is to "yousendit" which has a 2 gb limit. Unfortunately all of the files are from video tapes and are 5-18 GB. I tried re-recapturing a short segment of one of the files but  prelude ingested it just fine.
The back-story on this is that I have captured over 50, 8mm tapes using finalcut 5 on my G5 over the last 9 years.  They were captured as DV-ntsc. I just purchased an iMac and production premium, and plugged the external drives with the files on them into  the iMac. All but 6 files are fine with the remaining 6 having this problem.  I can easily see which files are a problem in the ingest dialog box when there is no thumbnail but only a generic quicktime icon. They will all open in quicktime.
I looked at the info box and they all look the same. Do you have any ideas about what I could check? Are there some hidden settings accesible with and option or command + key? It seems like there is something simple happening.
Do you have a suggestion of where I coud upload a file?
Thanks very much for your help.

  • Ingesting XDCAM in Yosemite

I have an XDCAM camera and am having problems with Prelude and Yosemite. Since upgrading to Yosemite ingesting is impossibly slow. Is there a download available or on the way that will restore Prelude ingests to a more workable length of time?

    RTroxel,
The attached image displays the "colored dot" which I referred to in my first reply.
This image was taken from one day in the "Month" view.
The first event is an "All Day" event, and the second is a timed event.

  • Can Prelude use the MXF preview files instead of the full size files?

It takes forever to load and view my full size MXF files from an XDCamHD disk. (It can also cause Prelude to crash)  It seems like it would be very helpful to be able to view the tiny preview files contained in the "Sub" folder.  You could quickly review your media, decide which files to transfer and then do so with the originals.  Has anyone been able to see those files in the Prelude Ingest window?  I only see the file icon, not the video media.
I had been using the Sony XDCam Transfer App with Final Cut, but am now trying to create a better workflow all inside Adobe software.

    Hi AEDave -
    Thanks for your post.
Wanted to share that we have been working on the performance with the XDCAM optical disc thumbnail load times (as well as other performance enhancements for this format). We are seeing a nice improvement on that front in our recent testing. And as Wes mentioned above we are also looking into how to best handle the proxy files the camera generates as well. Just wanted you to know we have improvements in the works for your workflow!
    Thanks -

  • Multiple Instance of Prelude?

Can prelude ingest multiple SD cards simultaneously?
We can have up to 9 SD cards that need to be offloaded at any given time.
Do we have to wait for one SD card to be offloaded before moving on to the next card? 15 minutes?

    Hi –
You can kick off multiple ingest operations in Prelude. To do this, simply open the ingest dialog and make your selections for the first SD card and click the INGEST button. This kicks off the first request and it starts. Now if you launch the ingest dialog again and select media from the second SD card and click INGEST again, it will make a second request.
    Hope this helps.

  • Prelude Help | The Prelude Workspace

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/prelude/using/prelude-workspace.html

In Prelude, "ingest" refers to transferring or transcoding. Is that the correct usage of "ingest." I think "ingest" more narrowly refers only to taking all or part of a video file, transcoding it, and putting that transcoded file in a location other than its original file location -- from flash media to a hard drive for example.
