Prelude Renaming Files Error

I get this error when trying to ingest and rename files to my hard drive... I only get file to transcode and make alias name w/ the ext. _1. What in the process am i missing or what is it about the possible file that I am not seeing that is not allowing me to specify and ingest with a chosen file name?

Could also check the AME version you are using? The latest version of Prelude is 2.2.0 and the AME is 7.2.0. Please ensure you have upgraded them to the latest version.
If your platform is Win and you want to transcode a clip to 'QuickTime', please install QuickTime software on your machine.
Hopfully this will resolve your issue, if not, just let me know.

Rename files in Prelude?

I don't see a way to rename video files in Prelude. Coming from a still photo background I have always renamed files to a sensible name at the point of import. If this can't be done in Prelude is there a suggestion on how to do this before prelude? Kind of a prelude to using prelude?!? For now I will continue to import and rename both still and vid files in Lightroom but would like to see this in Prelude.

Actually this is my first time working with the file based system. XDCAM. Usually the guys give me a single video file for footage and use it just it straight up.
But since I was given an XDCAM I did a search and came across this post. So being my first time not sure how helpful I can be but let me give you my current workflow so maybe this can help answer your question above.
I don't work with producers or directors I work with the end user or "viewer" as the case may be. So they are not technical and I can not tell them to get a copy of prelude and mark it up for me.
What I do is take the raw footage and transcode to a web friendly size ( at this point quality is not the issue but cut points are) and load them up to my site for the client to review and give me notes according to timecode.
Now when I load 20 of these up there and need to link them to my pages I like the files to be something I can understand. So I don't have to write down some sort of reference sheet so I can put the correct video on the correctly worded page.
Of course I can easily batch transcode in media encoder but it is nice to be able to view the files as a group in prelude. (and would be nice to) rename each one while I am looking at it and know what clip it is. then transcode all in one step renanming the originals as an alias if you like in the project panel but would like my transcoded files to be renamed also for the upload.
Not sure how it all works across the other programs yet, but I would like that if I can once on the initial ingest rename files to something I can easily understand what they are and be able to use that across the holy trinity Prelude, Premiere and After Effects. That would be most helpful

RH 10 - SVN - PushOk plugin: Error occurs by renaming files

I'm testing the integration of RoboHelp Projects with SVN (with PushOk plugin).
Everything has worked well until now apart from renaming files. The following error occurs:

LR 3.2 Renaming files on import error

Hi all, an error on importing and renaming files seems to have cropped up. In the last week or so I have imported some files from a cf card, only to have LR 3.2 "say" that "LR has imported certain files but the following images cannot be renamed" and the preview is greyed out. Double clicking on the "greyed out" image doesnt help either. The images are in the catalogue and first deleting them via LR and then reimporting them seems to work.
Any thoughts?

Sharepoint 2013 ItemAdded event receiver for renaming files is not working

In SP 2013 I coded an event receiver that intercepts the ItemAdded event and it just renames the file.
It is a synchronous event (I added <Synchronization>Synchronous</Synchronization> in the Elements.xml).

The problem is that when I upload a .txt file using Internet Explorer, just after the renaming is done, IE says that something went wrong and when I inspect the log files I see:

So it is clear that the fact that I renamed the file is causing an issue in the SharePoint upload logic.
As a solution what I did was to not declare it as Synchronous, but if I do it then there is another error when Sharepoint shows the Edit Properties dialog... in this case the upload is OK but when it is time to show that Edit Property dialog IE fails and
says that the file has been already modified, or that "something went wrong".
If I use a synchronous event I get one problem. If I use the asynchronous event I get another problem... It's very frustating and I am pretty sure that a so important API like Event Receivers should have support renaming files so I hope someone can tell
me what I am doing wrong.

PDF created in CS6 now produces a "Cannot Open File" error when I try to reopen it :(

I created a file in Illustrator CS6 (v. 16.0.0), and saved it as an (editable) PDF. When I try to reopen that same PDF inside Illustrator CS6, however, I get a "Could Not Open The File" error.
The file opens in Acrobat just fine, but I need to continue editing/working on it. Opening it in 5.1 works but it's all flat and not ideal for editing. Renaming the extension to .eps or .ai didn't work, either. I also looked into potential font conflicts (none) and restarted my Mac (OS 10.7.5) to no avail.
Thoughts/suggestions most welcome!

Illustrator is not designed to be a pdf editor, so save a .ai file backup always.
A restart, as you did, of Illustrator or your mac will allow you to open the .pdf, or resetting your font cache with fontnuke.
Update to 16.04, and especially check if acrobat needs updating.
I have had and so have others problems with making .pdfs if you do not have a printer chosen, usually you get an error could not save .pdf but check you have a printer chosen in system preferences >> Print & Scan .

Receiving an export file error: wrong type

I have created a movie several times in FCP and then exported the movie to QT without any problems. Now all of a sudden, I can't get the movie to export correctly. After the 2 hour export, I'll check on FCP to find that the program has shut down without an "Unexpected Shut Down" message. I check for the exported movie which I find in the saved folder. I click to open and verify the completed job, but find that I get an error instead : "Error: Wrong Type".
The last successful movie I created was September 14th, prior to the QT 7.5.5 upgrade. I thought it was the upgrade, as I found out that FCP does not do well with the new QT version, so I reverted to QT 7.5, but I am still experiencing the same problem with FCP quitting and the movie not being able to read.
What is going on? Can anyone help?

This is a crazy solution, but this happened to me last week and this solution enabled me to open my files again -- they were all greyed out and I thought I'd lost them. I took my drive in to an Apple Store Genius Bar without resolution and spend 2 hours online with ProApps (FCE/FCP) tech support, also with no resolution.
This fix is based on the fact that FCP when it is started, it automatically opens the project that was open when it was closed. First, in FCP save the current project (this can be any project -- I created a placeholder project -- to a dummy name -- I used "save me". Close FCP and delete the dummy name ("save me") project. Now rename the project that is greyed out and provides the File Error: Wrong Type message that you would like to open to the dummy name, so that it's now called "save me". Now open FCP again. Now save the recuperated file using the original name.

cannot locate original music file error message ??? i transferred to a new laptop then some of my music collection seems to get this message .

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

Renaming files in OS X Snow Leopard with illegal chars..

I'm still using Leopard but want to know if the behavior of renaming files is on par of that in, gasp, Windows Vista. I was jsut doing a lot of renaming and it reminded me of the days I used to use Vista when renaming a file and using an 'illegal' character it would pop-up a yellow dialog (not an error window) to remind me of the characters I can use only.
In OS X Leopard 10.5x if I try to use e.g. ":" I get an error box and this then reverts the file back to its original name which erases all of what I had done, all for one char probably. On top of this the error box then gives me a cryptic message as to what the error was about:
"The name "xxxxx" cannot be used.
Try using another name, with fewer characters or no punctuation marks."
I heard that the guys working on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard tidied everything up, doing all those things they always wanted to do, I bet they didn't get many opportunities like that! And was hoping that they did something toward file rename?
I'd expect that the erroneous char would be highlighted and some kind of error shown, but not to delete everything typed in. Can anybody tell me?

It's a unix thing, and not quite something I'd classify as needing to be cleaned up...
• The only illegal character for file and folder names in Mac OS X is the colon “:”
• File and folder names are not permitted to begin with a dot “.”
• File and folder names may be up to 255 characters in length

Prelude source file is missing

Hi...
I'm trying to add preludes at both the module and member level to a C++ GUI project.... and keep getting this annoying error "Code editing problem: the prelude source file is missing".
Has anybody solved this one ?
I can't find a way to generate such a file, although I found a template for such a file under the examples. I can workaround it by deleting my main source.cpp file and regenerating it... as long as I keep saving the .dt file I don't seem to lose any of my preludes.....

Automator: Impossible to rename file using automator under Mac OS X Lion

Hi,
Before upgrade my iMac to MAC OS X Lion 10.7.2, I had service created with automator under snow leopard in order to rename my pictures file names by blocks instead of one by one. Since I'm using Lion, this one doesn't work anymore. I have completely recreate the service under Lion and the results is the same.
You can find below my workflow that is easy. The problem is the message error in the history of automator application. The message is "impossible to rename file "file name" because this one should create conflict with existing file". I already test a lot of times with different name where I'm sure that this one doesn't exist on my Mac but all the time without success (verify also with search function under mac)
If somebody can help me, it would be very interesting because I already tried to find answer on internet without success too.

the whole automator and in particular the record action was substantially rewritten in snow leopard. and the record action is slow, unreliable and you can't trouble-shoot it. it's a wonder it works at all. the only advice i can give is to use it as little as possible. if at all possible avoid it altogether. if you do need to use it try using keyboard strokes instead of the mouse movement. for example. use command+c and command+v for copying and pasting and use tabbing to choose the correct box on the page.

Renaming files with invalid characters in their names on NTFS partitions, introduced by operating systems other than Windows

Essentially, Linux created some files with colons (:) in the name on a NTFS partition where I have Windows installed. I have since uninstalled Linux, but now I can only view these files in Windows Explorer. I can't open them, I can't even rename them to
correct the problem. It's as if they don't exist, because of the invalid search paths.
If I try to rename them in Windows Explorer I get following message.
The file name you specified is no valid or too long.
Specify a different file name.
Well isnt' that something?... isn't that nice? Windows is able to display these files, but it doesn't allow me to open them and it certainly doesn't like me to rename them. So why is it whining about it then, when I'm trying to help? It says "try a different

So what am I supposed to do now? Ditch Windows and go back to Linux? Surely, Microsoft doesn't like the sound of that. Sure, I could reinstall Linux or run a Linux live system to correct the problem. But what good is Windows then? I might as well switch to

There's the Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5. The first two versions were based on MKS Toolkit, a package licensed by Microsoft from MKS Inc. The later versions were based on the similar Interix product, after Microsoft purchased the company
that made it.
Then there's the new Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA). These are services for UNIX components. They are supposed to have Client for NFS v3 included as well. But the server components from the SFU line is missing (e.g. Server for NFS). These are included
in Server editions of Windows.
Then there's the Microsoft Knowledge Base article
289627: "How to Enable File Name Character Translation". This article seems to describe exactly my situation.
Windows and UNIX operating systems have restrictions on valid characters that can be used in a file name. The list of illegal characters for each operating system, however, is different. For example, a UNIX file name can use a colon (:), but a Windows
file name cannot use a colon (:). If a UNIX user attempts to create a file with a Windows illegal character on a Windows Services for UNIX network file system (NFS) share, the attempt is unsuccessful and the UNIX client computer receives an input or output
error.
It goes further than that. At first glance, this KB article also seems to offer a solution to this exact problem, with examples as shown below.
For example, the following maps the UNIX colon (:) to a Windows dash (-):
0x3a : 0x2d ; replace client : with - on server
I checked these values in charmap.exe and they are correct. Except for 2D not being a "dash", it's rather a hyphen ("hyphen minus" to be exact), but these two have pretty much the same appearance and they get interchanged a lot, I'm sure
they are used to it by now. (Yes, the characters! They don't mind.)
Then there's this registry key.

Well, of course, I don't have Server for NFS. So this is a dead end. Well, actually, it was a dead end from the beginning...
1. First of all, I'm not working with a network share on a NAS or SAN storage. The files are on the local disk drive where Windows is installed, so that's a DAS for you.
2. I don't have SFU! Well obviously, I'm on Windows Vista! So that means SUA!
3. SUA are service components only. No server components. Can you guess what that means? Yeah... no "Server for NFS" since it's a server component.
4. Windows Vista is a client side operating system! Server for NFS is only offered for use with Windows Server systems.
5. Back to square one!
So there you have it. They all lived happy for the rest of their lives...
I'm stuck here. Can someone tell me what to do? I mean beyond the obvious option to use Linux to fixa a Windows problem? The NTFS file system itself supports colons in file names. It's Windows that doesn't, and so by default it proclaims it invalid character.
Surely, even a Windows client operating system like Windows Vista should be able to allow the user to at least rename files with invalid characters to something more sensible (from the system point of view) and valid, if not being able to open them as they
are. Just add some crazy voodoo code to it and it will work. If you can make it possible on Windows Server with UNIX user-mode subsystem on NT kernel, then what's stopping you from giving the Windows client system the same benefit?
So what now? Purchase a Windows Server 2012 R2 license, copy my invalid files to a NAS share with NFS on a UNIX or Linux system, and have a go at the Windows registry and Server for NFS? Yeah... you're right, it's probably a bit over the top...
On a second thought... I might as well install Linux again. There are countless situations where Linux has helped me solve problems related to, and more often than not caused by Windows.

There's the Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5. The first two versions were based on MKS Toolkit, a package licensed by Microsoft from MKS Inc. The later versions were based on the similar Interix product, after Microsoft purchased the company

Then there's the new Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA). These are services for UNIX components. They are supposed to have Client for NFS v3 included as well. But the server components from the SFU line is missing (e.g. Server for NFS). These are included
in Server editions of Windows.

289627: "How to Enable File Name Character Translation". This article seems to describe exactly my situation.
Windows and UNIX operating systems have restrictions on valid characters that can be used in a file name. The list of illegal characters for each operating system, however, is different. For example, a UNIX file name can use a colon (:), but a Windows
file name cannot use a colon (:). If a UNIX user attempts to create a file with a Windows illegal character on a Windows Services for UNIX network file system (NFS) share, the attempt is unsuccessful and the UNIX client computer receives an input or output
error.
It goes further than that. At first glance, this KB article also seems to offer a solution to this exact problem, with examples as shown below.
For example, the following maps the UNIX colon (:) to a Windows dash (-):

I checked these values in charmap.exe and they are correct. Except for 2D not being a "dash", it's rather a hyphen ("hyphen minus" to be exact), but these two have pretty much the same appearance and they get interchanged a lot, I'm sure
they are used to it by now. (Yes, the characters! They don't mind.)
Then there's this registry key.

Well, of course, I don't have Server for NFS. So this is a dead end. Well, actually, it was a dead end from the beginning...
1. First of all, I'm not working with a network share on a NAS or SAN storage. The files are on the local disk drive where Windows is installed, so that's a DAS for you.
2. I don't have SFU! Well obviously, I'm on Windows Vista! So that means SUA!
3. SUA are service components only. No server components. Can you guess what that means? Yeah... no "Server for NFS" since it's a server component.
4. Windows Vista is a client side operating system! Server for NFS is only offered for use with Windows Server systems.
5. Back to square one!
So there you have it. They all lived happy for the rest of their lives...
I'm stuck here. Can someone tell me what to do? I mean beyond the obvious option to use Linux to fixa a Windows problem? The NTFS file system itself supports colons in file names. It's Windows that doesn't, and so by default it proclaims it invalid character.
Surely, even a Windows client operating system like Windows Vista should be able to allow the user to at least rename files with invalid characters to something more sensible (from the system point of view) and valid, if not being able to open them as they
are. Just add some crazy voodoo code to it and it will work. If you can make it possible on Windows Server with UNIX user-mode subsystem on NT kernel, then what's stopping you from giving the Windows client system the same benefit?
So what now? Purchase a Windows Server 2012 R2 license, copy my invalid files to a NAS share with NFS on a UNIX or Linux system, and have a go at the Windows registry and Server for NFS? Yeah... you're right, it's probably a bit over the top...
On a second thought... I might as well install Linux again. There are countless situations where Linux has helped me solve problems related to, and more often than not caused by Windows.

Problem in renaming file

There are 2 files in a directory called
js1.html
js2.html
i am reading from js1.html and making some modification to
the data as i read and storing in js2.html
finally i have to rename js2.html to js1.html
i am using fileinputstream and fileoutputstream amd i am
closing both before ranaming.
I also am trying to delete js1.html before renaming
as both are in the same dir
The code i am using for renaming
File old=new File("js2.html");
old.renameTo(new File("js1.html");
But this always returns false
i am using win2k
could anyone pls help me out with this

Just a guess but maybe it is returning false because you already havea file named js1.html. Trying doing this through Windows Explorer and it will spit out an error.
What you should try is deleting js1.html first and then renaming. Presumably you don't need js1.html anymore once you make the changes so go ahead and delete it.
