Prem and 4 or more gig of ram

Does CS4 support 8 gigs of ram?

No. Only 64 bit applications can access that much RAM.

  • MEGA PC 651 and 1 gig of RAM

Hi Guys, I have a MEGA 651, cele 2.6 gig and i HAD 1 gig of ram in there... but after doing my usual tasks in XP, it would just reboot! as anyone had this problem? i take out 1 stick of 512 and it runs fine.  I think this may be an over heating problem because i noticed that extra stick of 512 generates quite a bit of heat.  Could it be a problem with the mobo handling 512 or ram as well?  If anyone has any info this would be great
    Thanks

    Thanks alot for your response..
Hmm i know its not the ram, its been tested in another system and its fine.. So it might be the power supply huh? how can this be resolved? i heard the mega PC 651 was released in 2 models.. 1 with a higher voltage power supply, i guess mine is the lower of the 2 released, if so..do i have to replace the power supply?

  • Ever had a stable G5 with 8 gig of RAM?

Has anyone ever had a G5 run nice and stable with 8 gig of RAM?
I have purchased 16 gig in memory and tried every stick independently and they are all good. BUT put 8 gig in the machine and its unstable. Remove the last two mem slots and stability returns.
I now know my G5 has a hardware problem. It sometimes shows up as a 7 gig memory machine in "About this Mac" and "More Info" shows that the system reads the last two slots as 512 K rather than 1 gig modules. (Not first up but after a short while)
Its my belief that this is more than just my machine. Pieter

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1812
Q: *I want to reset NVRAM to factory defaults. How do I do that?*
A: When you start a Macintosh computer you can reset the configuration variables by holding down the following keys, "command-option-p-r", without the quotes. Listen for the second boot beep before releasing the keys and the configuration variables will be reset. When a Macintosh computer starts, control is immediately given to what Apple terms "Hardware Init". This firmware is contained in ROM and must use the microprocessor registers since memory is not tested and initialized.
When you hear the boot beep Hardware Init is finished testing and initializing memory and the microprocessor and passes control to Open Firmware. Open Firmware checks for keys being pressed. In this case, command-option-p-r, is detected and Open Firmware resets NVRAM and then passes control back to Hardware Init which will generate another boot beep. Don't worry if you hold down the keys too long and hear more than two boot beeps. More than two boot beeps will just reenter the startup sequence more times which will not cause any harm.

I would reset nvram each and every time I changed device configuration. Also, test with just new RAM alone. Sometimes RAM does get misreported as to its type/speed (PC2700 showed as PC2600 in G4 MDD) and just "cosmetic" and didn't affect operation.
Running memtest is one way; Apple Hardware Test another. If those two pass, I would not worry.

  • AGP SAWTOOTH wont see more than 896mb RAM

It wont see more than 896mb of RAM in any combination of the 4 slots. And whats more, if I put four 256mb chips in, it will only see 512mb. So I currently have 3x256 and 1x128...
This is true with OS 9.1, 10.3 and 10.4...
    Any ideas? thx

Hello! Have you checked to see if all the ram is the same spec. i have 4 512 meg pc133 sticks in my Sawtooth and it shows 2 gig of ram. OS 9 will only recognize 1.5 gigs as I understand it. I think that OSX has the ability to "lock out" portions of memory that may be out of spec. Tom

  • I am having consistant problems w/ my mb pro freezing for 20-60 seconds while working in different programs and apps. i've upgraded my RAM to 8gigs and deleted over 60 gig of pics and videos to try to help, but nothing seems to work.

I've now been having this problem for months. It just freezes up and either shows me the dumb color wheel or doesn't show me anything sometimes and i just cant do anything for about 20-60 seconds. i can't exposae or anything. Also while working on a power point presentation it froze 4 different times for good and i had to do a hard restart just to get it working again. i lost my work and had to keep starting over. it was so annoying. it seems most of the time it does it, it is while i'm in Excel, Outlook, or Powerpoint. so perhaps it has something to do with my microsoft office. but i have the newest version and all the updates and everything. and i believe its happened when doing other tasks too. So i just can't figure it out.
A few Mac friends suggested i free up some space on my hard drive and upgrade my RAM. So i did. i put all my videos and photos on an external harddrive and deleted them all on my computer. i also upgraded to 8 gigs of RAM.
And honestly i can't even tell a difference after doing both of these.
HELP! PLEASE HELP! I'M ABOUT TO GO CRAZY. And having all the non Mac believers telling me it cause i have a Mac even drives me more nuts..
    Jason

    Any of this help?
it froze a few times over the last hour and half while browsing the internet.
and also while working in excel it all of the sudden shut down excel and said. "Excel has encountered and problem and needs to shut down, you may lose the work you were on." or something like that. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TOO. Excel, outlook and powerpoint frequently just shut down on me out of now where. I've bolded and underlined when this happened.

  • Will new Intel  "Conroe" chip in Mac towers support more than 4 gig of RAM?

    Hi all,
    long time no speak
    Question:
Will the new Intel "Conroe" chip in the upcoming Mac towers support more than 4 gig of RAM?
I score Orchestral and since the new VSL library is completely 24bit i need to at least be able to adress 8 gig of RAM (16 gig would be better
To APPLE: Guys please be aware that us Pro Users were always eager to adress those 8 gig of RAM in our G5s, but were dissapointed in the fact that Logic FCP etc, were never turned into 64 bit apps.....so adressing 4 gig was it for us........
I guess another way to ask the same question would be whether "Conroe" is 64 bit, as that is what is required to adress more than 4 gig of RAM.....
    thanx,

Will the new Intel "Conroe" chip in the upcoming Mac
towers support more than 4 gig of RAM?
From what I've read Conroe will be 64-bit. A google search of "64-bit conroe" will give you a few sources and more info.

It doesn't need to be a 64-bit application. It just needs to have 64-bit memory addressing. Here is a good article if you're interested.
    http://developer.apple.com/business/macmarket/mathematica.html
I don't have any experince with VSL, but I did have a quick experience with Kontakt 2 (I sold it). The Kontakt 2 forum has a post from the moderator that explains some issues around Kontakt's memory issues.
    http://www.nativeinstruments.de/forum_us/showthread.php?t=31572
"furthermore, even Kontakt 2 and related products will not get 64 bit support any time soon since this would require a complete rewrite of the engine - this is the last thing we want at this point! products based on Kontakt 2 are Akoustik Piano and Bandstand."
The complete rewrite of the audio engine might be the general issue with utilizing more than 4Gb of memory. But, I am not sure...I think there is another issue with how the OS handles memory usage.

  • System overloads and quad core Pro with only 1 gig of RAM - Snow Leopard

That RAM total would suggest that I go out and buy some (expensive) RAM.
    But I see from
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10238432&#10238432
that people are getting memory spikes with LP8 and a lot more than 1 gig. One poster suggests that LP8 has a bug that should've been fixed but wasn't.
8 gigs are so expensive ($2k) that I could get an entire iMac for less - and rumor has it that there may be quad-core models on the way soon.
Which of the following would you do"
    1. Amp up to 4GB on this box for $1200 or so?
    2. Get just 1GB more to make it 2GB - cheaper?
    3. Upgrade to LP9 just to get a bug fix?
A new pro ($3200+, 8 core, 6 gigs is not an option. I'm even gagging at the RAM prices.
I use LP primarily for electronic music, not rock mixes, so I use ES2, Sculpture, ESX. EFM and potentially a lot of track automation.

Hello neighbor (I live in Arlington, MA).

Definitely not number 3--LP9 is working pretty well for me, but a lot of users find it to be rather buggy. I'm not saying don't get 9, I'm just saying don't do it with the idea in mind that it will fix all your problems. I buy my RAM from Other World Computing. I'm not sure exactly which model Mac Pro you're running, but you can see here that the most you'll pay for 8GB is about $275. But jumping up to 4GB would significantly improve your situation, so I would recommend starting there--you can always add more later if you need to.

  • Since installing 10.7.3 my downloads say that I do not have enough space on my computer for the download. These downloads are never more that 200 megs or so and I have 270 Gigs left on my hard drive. What can I do to fix this?

Since installing 10.7.3 my downloads say that I do not have enough space on my computer for the download. These downloads are never more that 200 megs or so and I have 270 gigs left on my hard drive. Somehow the remaining space on my hard drive is not being correctly read. What can I do to fix this? I have run permissions repair several times, but to no avail.

Th downloads do not finish. I am dowloading to a file on my desktop called MUSIC, but it first starts to download to my desktop and then I move it to the MUSIC file also on my desktop and I have been doing this without incident using 10.7.2 as well as 10.7.1 and 10.7.

  • Running the latest OS Mavericks.  8 gigs of RAM.  150 gigs free space on computer.  Problem: since upgrading to Maverick almost all applications are slow to open, and frequently many 'spinning ball' interruptions.  Repaired disk permissions - no help.

I'm running the latest OS 10.9.1 Mavericks (late 2009 iMac).  8 gigs of RAM.  150 gigs free space on computer.  Since upgrading to Mavericks, apps are slow to open, with frequent "spinning ball" interruptions.  Repaired Disk Permissions - no help.  Repaired disk - no problems indicated.  Did notice in going to Utilities/Console that there are 4000 messages over a 3 day period.  Any suggesstions how to correct this sudden slow down, other than psychiatric help?

Yes.  Many messages show up when I try to use Office for Mac 08.  Here's a sample (and one that repeats over and over again):
2/11/14 1:01:16.577 PM Microsoft Word[1912]: OTAtomicAdd32 is deprecated and will be removed soon.  Please stop using it.
Also getting many msgs when I use Chrome.

  • I have a MacBook Pro late 2008 edition with 2 Gigs of RAM and running Mavericks. When trying to download Yosemite from the App Store it gives me an error message. Anyone has a similar problem?

MacBook Pro late 2008 edition with 2 Gigs of RAM and running Mavericks (10.9.5). It gives me an error message when I try to download Yosemite

    All,
I thought it may be related to spaces in the path in which the script was called from. I tried having the ODBC command script in another directory but the same thing happens. It will give me the "CONFIGSYSDSN: Unable to create a data source for the 'Oracle in OraClient10g_home1' driver: Could not load the setup or translator library with error code -2147467259". As soon as the script is done running I can manually double click the script and it adds the DSN fine.

  • Want to upgrade my G5 with 2 more gbs or ram, HD, and bluetooth..

Hi, I would like to do some upgrades with my G5 quad 2.5(late 2004 versions), I would like to add 2 more gbs of ram, a second 500gb HD, and i want to add the bluetooth and wireless card. I got a few questions to ask
1)any particular brand of HD and ram that you guys would recommend?
2)any particular requirements for the HD and ram for compatibility
3)for the bluetooth and wireless...I heard that I can buy them in any Apple retailer stores. Do you guys know a name for that product?
    thanks very much

Hi. To answer your three questions...
Hard drives - can be a flavour-of-the-month thing; you can check out a few reports here
    http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso
If you post a link to the one you fancy, someone will no doubt give their personal opinion of it.
RAM - The Apple Official RAM specs are here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86414
Crucial have a RAM selector - as do Kingston.
Once you have the RAM specs for your G5 you can shop around, if you wish - but beware - G5s and OS X seem to get more picky about RAM by the minute. If you peruse these Forums you will find many threads on RAM problems. Look for a compatibility guarantee and a 'lifetime' warranty - i.e. that it will work now - and keep right on working.
Nobody ever got fired for buying Crucial.
The Bluetooth and Airport Extreme! module for the "Late 2005" dual-cores (inc. quad) is covered here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4912635#4912635
Please post again if any of it isn't clear. Good Luck.

  • 64 bit and only 3 gigs of ram?

I thought to fully take advantage of 64 bit and 64 bit applications. one would need to have at least 4 gigs of ram?? this 3 gig limit just makes no sense to me. oh well, I guess I'm sticking with my 32 bit MBP for now. or is there something that I should know?

Why would we have to wait for Santa Rosa when Dell XPS laptops using the exact same Core 2 Duos are capable of supporting 4GBs right now?
I'm in the unique position of having a "do-over" with regards to my laptop, I was able to sell my MBP for just a hair under what I bought it for, and am ready to buy a C2D MBP, but this RAM issue (along with the reported "haziness" in the LCD that I can't tell if it's really an issue or not) is getting me to second guess whether I'm going to go Apple again.
