Prem Elements stabiliztion

The new Image stabilization is the most mindbogglingly thoughtless 'brand new feature' in Elements 13!
The feature is pulled from Prem Pro (and it's pretty much the only reason I upgraded the software as Adobe likes to dribble out useful Element updates) so when stabilization is applied to a clip whose resolution doesn't match the project, the effect flashes up a banner announcing that the project rez must match the clip.
So if you have a project that mixes a selection of SLR, phone, and Gopro resolutions (say 720p 1080p, 4k, and maybe one of those weird little gopro small rez high fps options), you're stuffed.
This is fine if the user is in Prem Pro, cause one can just trigger a 'nest', and alter the project dimensions there. But Prem Elements doesn't allow nested projects (as far as I can tell).
With the selection of open source (Lightworks, Blender) and FREE (Blackmagic) pro tools that are now becoming available, Adobe should be thinking a little more about the customer!

The Premiere Elements 13 Shake Stabilizer situation is well known.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user.

  • I am using Windows 8.1 and Prem Elements 13 and Elements is not seeing my recordings on a CF Card The camera is a Canon XF 100 recording in Mpeg2

I am using Windows 8.1 and Prem Elements 13 and Elements is not seeing my recordings on a CF Card The camera is a Canon XF 100 recording in Mpeg2. I have been told it is a codec clash?

    jamesb
Premiere Elements 13 Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit).
From what I have read, the Canon XF100 uses the MPEG2 Long GOP video compression, however it uses a MXF file extension (container/wrapper format).
Premiere Elements (any version) does not support MXF files.
Based on existing information, you would need to convert the MXF file to another format which is supported by Premiere Elements.
Apparently lots of the MXF converters available online.
Have you been there and done that?

  • .avi files in prem elements 11

An error message apears after import" not supported codec is req'd " in prem elements 11.
I purchased the software to use with .avi files which were listed as compatible on the web site.

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, the AVI format can have almost anything within it. It's like saying "I have a car, and it won't run." The first quetion would be, "what kind of car is it?" It could be a Ferrari, or a Chevy Volt. Lots of differences.
For more background, and for tips on finding out what is in the AVI, see this FAQ Entry: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037?tstart=0
If you can let us know what is inside the AVI "wrapper," someone can give you tips on how best to handle that material.

  • Upgrade Prem Pro 6 to Prem elements... which one???

    Hello everyone.
I have been working on Prem Pro (version 6.0 or 6.5) for years now but I have just upgraded to Windows 7 and I know that this software is too old the run on Windows 7. I was wondering if anyone knows what is the closest Prem Elements software to Prem pro 6.0/ 6.5 that will work on Windows 7?
    Many thanks!!!

You do have the "full version" of what was completely rewritten at Pr 7.0/PrPro 1.0. There is still some confusion, as to what Pr 70/PrPro 1.0 was. It seems that the program was released as Pr (no PRO) 7.0 for OEM installations, and the commercial product took the new name Premiere Pro, and was 1.0. To make these matters worse, there was a small release of a program named Premiere Pro 7.0, and I have seen pictures of the box and CD case with that name on it, though almost no one at Adobe knows any details of that. I assume that Pr 7.0, PrPro 7.0 and PrPro 1.0, are all pretty much the same program, and was a total rewrite of the code from Pr 6.5.
Now, PrElements went from PrE 4.0 to PrE 7.0, with no 5.0, or 6.0, to get the version numbers up to match the often companion program, Photoshop Elements, which had jumped ahead of PrE by a couple of numbers.
To your question, the long gone PrE 3.0 was probably the closest in look and feel to your Pr 6.0. With PrE 4.0, the interface introduced a radical change to a "cleaner and sleeker" look, but one that I found difficult to grasp, as I was used to PrPro, up to 2.0. After several years, I still have to hunt around PrE to find things, that come so naturally in PrPro.
You will be looking at PrE 9.0, as has been stated, and it has added power, over previous versions. However, the interface is much more streamlined, than Pr/PrPro's. This will take some getting used to. Also, functions, like Export, have been moved about and some of the terms/names have changed. Though one might be an "old hand" at Adobe NLE work, I would strongly suggest picking up a copy of Steve Grisetti's book on PrE 9. That will flatten the learning curve greatly. Most of the general operations remain, but now look quite different, and some of the familiar operations have been moved and often renamed.
If you like Pr 6.0, do not plan on doing HD work, especially with material from a DSLR, or AVCHD, then John T. has a suggestion that should get Pr 6.0 working on your new OS. Two other options are to upgrade to PrPro CS5 (think that it's US$299 from the Adobe Store, upgrading from Pr 6.0), or PrE 9, the current version. Between you and me, I'd opt for CS5, even at more than 2x the price, but that is just me, as I really like the interface and additional power of PrPro.

  • Pc mag review of prem elements

Here is a reviev of prem elements
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/software/370027/adobe-premiere-elements-10

We've discussed this article pretty thoroughly on the community forum at http://Muvipix.com.
It's actually a pretty absurd review. Putting 120 fps footage into a consumer editing program makes no sense whatsoever!
So it's up to you how seriously you take it. But I've got my review of the new features if you're interested. And it's based on some pretty thorough real world testing.

Or, better yet, I recommend you download the trial and test drive it yourself. Only you can say how well it will work with your unique workflow.

  • PHSP & PREM Elements 12. Got Windows version, need Mac version.

Today i bought PHSP & PREM Elements
12.,   I did a mistake by chosing windows instead of mac.
I have a mac and need to change the product. How can i do that?

The serial number is multi-platform: works on both Mac and PC.
Just download the Mac installation files, enter your serial number and you're done.

  • So confused: Prem Elements 9.0 or the new 10.0, laptop with i7 processor or quadcore with XP Pro???

I bought a Panasoninc SD700 camcoder a year ago, knowing that the editing part was not solved then. Now there's enough video material to do something about it. And then the jungle expedition with possible mines starts!
Bought today a Sony VAIO laptop. Good price (I think). It has an i7 processor with 2,0 Ghz and 8 GB RAM. It had Premiere Elements 9.0 pre-installed. I played with it tonight but the imported AVCHD (mts) files from the SD-card lags when using the software! Isn't the processor power enough? This new laptop has a blu-ray-player installed and Windows 7 Premium, 64 bits.
I have also an older stand-alone PC with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, 2,4 Ghz, 3,25 GB RAM, run with XP Professional Service pack 3. This computer does not have a blu-ray-burner. I heard, though, that they can be purchased and connected with USB.
So what do I do? Buy another Prem Elements 9.0 for the standalone pc and hope that the editing works there? Wait for Prem Elements 10.0 and install it - where, which computer if at all? Upgrade the laptop processor to something better - but what, does i7 have dual core?
Can't you just make a video on your pc without burning anything and then play it from there connected with HDMI to the HDTV?
Help! I don't know what to do!
    Wildwest63

Thanks a lot Steve! I feel a bit calmer. When browsing through different forums you easily get worried, because it seems nobody knows for sure.
Just to make sure: the Premiere version 9.0 that was installed on the VAIO couldn't produce a steady flow when the AVCHD-files ran thru. But you mean version 10.0 will manage? Has version 10.0 capabilities that version 9.0 didn't have? I have no problem buying version 10.0 but I cannot buy and test and find out that it didn't work again. That's getting too expensive.
I am not shooting in 60p with the camcorder. I read that it was hardly possible to see a difference between 60i and 60p and 60p takes twice the space. I also heard that there was no program out there managing to edit 60p. Even 60i on the new flat-tv screen (from Sony) is such an awesome improvement from my old camcorder (DV tape) back in 2004, that everybody is amazed, even guys that are normally very technically skilled - which I am not.
According to the sales guy the VAIO has no blu-ray burner, just a blu-ray player. But I suppose it has some kind of burner anyway? Haven't checked that out. The stand-alone pc has no blu-ray burner. But is it an option worth trying to buy a blu-ray burner and connect with a USB-cable to either machine? When the blu-ray disc is ready I can put it into the VAIO and connect to the HDTV and show the movie. I have no use for an ordinary blu-ray-player.
If this workflow is okay will I then get the same result on the tv screen as I get today when connecting the camcorder directly to the HDTV with a HDMI-cable? No loss of quality?

  • Imported Still is Blury, Prem Elements 9

I'm a complete novice when it comes to Premeire, so forgive me. I am very familiar with Photoshop CS4, but I'm using Photoshop Elements 9, which is not as similar to CS4 as I expected.
I'm trying to import an image of text for a title screen rather than using the Prem 9 templates. The images I import come in blury. I have created a photoshop doc using the NTSC DV preset, but that doesn't help. The img files are 720x480, just like my video. Resolution 72 or 300...it doesn't matter, clarity is still bad. I've also tried saving it as .jpeg, .bmp, and .psd with no difference. I'm thinking it's possible it could be the fact that the film is intended to be viewed on a TV screen, but here's why I think that's not the case:
I have film footage of a "title screen", i.e. text printed on a paper held in front of the camera. That text comes in clear enough, but the lighting quality is poor and the printout is not straight. If I capture a frame from this image and edit it's brightness/contrast and levels in photoshop, and then import it back into Prem, it becomes blurry.
Also, I would hope the film could look just as clear regardless of how it was viewed, meaning both TV Screen and Computer Monitor. I'm not sure if there's a setting in premiere that, for editing purposes, shows the film in a low quality preview format or what the issue is. It just doesn't seem like it should be blury.
Again, very new to premiere, so I apologize for being slow.

The use of a PSD will be virtually indistinguishable from the output using Titler. Now, I probably use PS and PSD's a bit more, but part of that is because PrPro will Import Layered PSD's, and then I can animate each Layer independently. To do the same with Titler would require a separate Title per line, or element. PS also offers me a few more controls, and for even more, like Glyphs in my fonts, I use Adobe Illustrator for that sort of control, and just Place the AI Vector Art into PS, Save_As PSD and then Import that into my video editing program.
For most simple Titles, however, I just use Titler, as it is really quite powerful. Wish that there was a spellchecking plug-in for it (and for PS, as well).
    As for the second question:
The most common issues that I see are, and in no particular order:
Where the director/producer/cinematoghrapher/editor looses track of the story, and falls in love with footage, that does not further that story.
The overuse of Transitions, especially more graphically intricate ones. I use the simple Butt-Cuts, Cross-Dissolves (usually indicating a change in time, and/or place) and Dip-to-Black (usually indicating a greater change in time, and/or place).
Shots that are too long, and could benefit from being tightened greatly.
Using a single long shot, where cut-aways, or changes in angles would improve the pacing of the story greatly.
Not establishing the "stage" and not giving enough visual info.
Giving too much visual info and for too long - tight shots can improve the story-telling.
    Over-use of zooms.
Under-use of interesting angles and POV.
Music/Audio that does not contribute to the story, or is just inappropriate.
Lack of the use of a tripod, or camera stabilization, unless hand-held is part of the pacing, mood or part of the story.
Effects that might be neat by themselves, but do not improve the story.
    Lack of continuity.
    Total lack of a story.
    That's probably just the "short-list."
I think that one can learn a lot, by just studying the work of great directors and cinematographers. The work of Hitchcock, Kubrick, Peckinpaw, William Freidkin, John Ford, Sergio Leone, Peter Jackson, Coppola, et al, is a great place to start. Those folk created special films, have much to teach one.
    Good luck,

  • Can't view/monitor copy-pasted video prem elements 7

    Hi folks
Wierd one this.  We've got Premiere elements 7 in college on some awfully slow computers (2GHz dual core cpu with 1GB ram).
Sometimes, when a student has copied some video and pasted it on another track/later in the session, they'll try and play it but it won't show in the monitor.
The screen goes black, but you can hear the audio.  However, when you double click the video itself, it will open in that  window you use for fine tuning a cut, and you can see it playing ok.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Bob

1GB RAM is nowhere near enough to run PRE7 comfortably (I'm quite surprised that it works at all). Other likely problems are inadequate free disk space and out of date drivers.
Work through these basics to see if it cures your problems.
    Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.9 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
    Install PRE7 v7.0.3 update.
Delete BadDrivers.txt (in Windows 7 this is likely at C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Premiere Elements\9.0\BadDrivers.txt)
    Run Disk Cleanup.Run Defragmenter.
    Reboot your PC.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
And give us some information about your clips and hardware:
Use the GSpot Codec Information Utility to analyse the file and post screen image.
What project preset did you use?
Where did the clip come from?
How did you get it into PRE?
Post back here with the necessary information described here: Got a Problem? How to Get Started
There are several FAQ Articles, found on the right of the main forum page, and these address some of the issues covered above, plus also offer some tips on tuning up your system for NLE (Non Linear Editing) work. Be sure to read all of the FAQ Articles.
In the Tips & Tricks sub-forum, Bill Hunt has written many articles related to program/computer hangs, crashes and even the dreaded BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). hi i have just reinstalled win 7 as an upgrade and premier elements 4 will not open
i tried to repair the porgram that did not work
i uninstalled and reinstalled the program

is there a program that will remove elements in full
or is there a ?????????????? that will help
i also have elements 8 which has the same problem

It's likely that, having just installed W7, there are a fair number of updates you should apply:
    Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.9 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
    Run Disk Cleanup.
    Run Defragmenter.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
Post back here with the necessary information (especially about your PC) described here: Got a Problem? How to Get Started

  • I have just  installed prem elements 9 onto a new PC and it will not open any of the old projects

When I try to open any of the previous projects or any video file it comes up with the error message that the file format is not  supported or the codex missing,. the same file will open OK on the old PC. This probems occurs for all video formats.

Without more information I can't say for sure, but:
    1) You'll need to ensure you have the latest version of Quicktime installed in order to work with the MTS files from your Canon. Then start a new project and set it up for Full AVCHD video. When you do this the program will automatically install the necessary codecs.
    2) As for the AVI, it could be an MJPEG AVI, which is an iffy file to edit in Premiere Elements. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Installing the software that came with the camera can help.

    Hi,
Did you have any previous version of Photoshop Elements installed?
Click on Start->run.. type %temp% and click on ok.
Delete the files you see in this folder and try reinstalling.
Do let us know if that worked.
    Thanks

  • Hi. I cannot launch prem elements 9 any more. It gets so far, then just freezes on the purple screen

It is driving me mad!  When you launch, it'll get to the "open project or "new project" window.  If you press "open project" it just freezes after a while, if you go "new project" it will ask for a title then freeze on the blank purple screen.  It used to work fine.  I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing from the CD I bought but to no avail.  What should I do?

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9 running on? Are you running the program from the 9.0.1 Update?
    1. Make sure that you are set for Run As Administrator and running from User Account with Administrative Privileges; you have the latest version of QuickTIme installed on the computer with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1; your video card/graphics card driver version is up to date according to the web of the manufacturer of the video card/graphics card.
    2. If no help from "1", delete the settings file named Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file. Assuming you are working with Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit

and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs File exists. Make sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so you can see the complete path cited.
    3. If that does not work, the go for new installation files from the following web site and then install them inserting your purchased serial number

It is critical that you read the "Note: Very Important Instructions" at that web site; otherwise, you will get an Access Denied message.
    In general terms,
    a. Is your computer optimized - ccleaner run through (regular and registry parts)
