Prem Pro CS4 Stooped Working

I'm not sure where this question belongs, but since it is causing problems with Premier Pro, I'm trying here first.
I had Premier Pro CS4 installed as part of Master Suite. Everything worked fine. I recently upgraded to Design Premium CS5. Prior to the install of CS5, I uninstalled all the pieces they had in common. This left Premier Pro, Encore and the other video related pieces of CS4 Master Suite.
Since the installation of CS5, Premier Pro CS4, and ONLY Premier Pro CS4, no longer starts up. All the other pieces of the Master Suite CS4 are working. I get an error message about "Error 5" and Premier never starts. The entire message may be viewed throught the link below:

I rebooted as suggested by the error message and got the same error. I have tried uninstalling ALL of the Master Suite and reinstalling everything with a reboot in between removal and install and after the install was complete.
Has anyone else run into this and how can this be corrected?

I would attempt a Repair Install for PrPro CS4, as it seems likely that some necessary element might have also been removed.

Prem Pro CS4 loading wrong .dll's! Help!

Hi everyone,
I've installed Prem Pro CS4 on the same computer as my music software 'Cubase'. Problem is on startup Premiere is loading Cubase plugins, .dll files which are installed: C:Program Files\Cubase\VSTplugins.
It crashes!!
Premiere plugins are in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiere Pro CS4\Plug-ins\en-US\
So why don't it stick to that, how should I handle this?

PrPro can use many VST's beyond just the ones in its folder structure. It uses many from AE. Normally, one of two things happens:
1.) the VST is fine and is used in PrPro
2.) the VST cannot be used by PrPro, and the very first time that it is launched, it will tell you this in a little dialog box. It'll still load them with no problems and no more dialog boxes.
However, there is that thrid situation. Not only can PrPro NOT use the VST, but it crashes the program. Curt has addressed that. Besides Cubase, Native Instruments also has VST's that kill PrPro, at least in earlier versions.

Adobe Media Encoder for Premiere Pro CS4 stops working on the same frame every time...

I currently have Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and have never had these issues exporting before. My timeline is less than 3 minutes long, but it does deal with multiple big files. It rendered perfectly and it plays perfectly in the timeline. When I try to export it using Media Encoder, however, it freezes at the same frame every time (which is actually only a few seconds in!) and then crashes, so that I have to force quit. I have tried exporting it as many different codecs and the problem persists... same frame. I tried creating a new project entirely and whipping together a few titles and exporting that to see if it just won't export anything at all. The new project exported just fine, however, which I suppose is good news. But yeah, my work on that other project is very important to me and I reallllly want to export it. Please help!

Hi Jim! Thank you for your reply. I think you are right -- and that it lies in the audio somehow!
It turns out that if I choose to only export the video, and uncheck audio, it will export very well and smoothly. That's great news for me!
However, now I am trying to work out how to get the audio exported without issues. I actually had the idea of just playing the audio in the timeline and recording it via Stereo Mix, but my Windows 7 driver has Stereo Mix disabled, so it's back to square one. Any ideas of what I can do about the corrupted audio not exporting, which works fine when played in the timeline?

I need a definitive answer for using Premiere Pro CS4 to work with .m2ts and .mts files

I have a Canon Vixia HF20 and a Sony HDR-XR350V. The Canon gives me .MTS files and the Sony produces .M2TS files. What do I need to do to be able to work with these files in Premiere Pro? I've searched and gotten that I'll need to purchase a codec. But are both file types going to be good with one codec?
Also, what are the steps to getting started? Purchase the codec, load the codec...Will there be any other steps to working with the files in Premiere?
I'm sorry for the basic questions, I'm a photographer! I've never worked with video before, and this is HARD!

Hi, Michelle.
I'm nowhere near the authority on this stuff that many of the others are here, but I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I work directly with AVCHD .mts files from my Panasonic camera. I simply browse to the directory where the .mts files are located and drag them into the project. I didn't need to purchase any additional codec, this is natively supported in Premiere CS4.
I can't speak to m2ts files as I don't have any gear that generates them.
One thing you do need to know, however, and this is important. Whether you're running a Mac or a PC, if you're going to work with high def footage such as AVCHD, you're going to need a fairly high performance computer with sufficient RAM, good performing hard drives and a fast CPU.
I tried this on a PC that was fine for my recording studio (audio), fine for professional software development, but choked and stuttered working with HD material. That's not a problem with the Adobe software, it's just the nature of the beast. HD is extremely demanding stuff, so you need top flight gear to work with it. I bought a higher performance PC and now it runs just fine.

Blending mode in Adobe Premier Pro CS4 not working???

in Adobe Premier Pro CS4, the "multiply" blending feature is not working properly. When there's no video underneath the "blending" layer, it SHOULD not show anything, but instead the clip instead just shows up.

Well, the problem is that you're assuming that the "nothing" in the gaps in your PPro sequence is "something," when really, it actually IS "nothing"...
OK, existentialism aside, when you see black in the Program Monitor that results from a gap between two clips, from a digital standpoint, there really is nothing there. Empty spaces in a PPro sequence are actually a fully transparent layer, created by an alpha channel that encompasses the entire frame. Since the Multiply mode is expecting RGB values to operate on, when it doesn't encounter any (due to the alpha channel) the effect is just ignored--that's why you see the clip with the Multiply mode when it crosses those gaps.
You can correct this by filling your gaps with "real" black, either from an imported graphic or from the black video generator in PPro. Simply edit a bit of it into the gap so that there are no holes, and your multiplied clips will disappear.
And for that matter, it's never a good idea to leave empty holes in a Premiere sequence; it's often the cause of rendering and exporting headaches.

Audio out of Synch in Prem Pro CS4 after editing in Soundbooth

This is using the Mac version of Premiere Pro CS4 and Soundbooth. I Premeire, I choose to edit the audio portion of a clip in Soundbooth. In sound booth I just add some compression or other sweetening and save it (only adding effects no cutting of the audio or anything). When I save it and go back to Premeire, the audio is out of synch. Also this seems to happen intermittently not everytime.
Any ideas?
The audio in premiere is part of a video clip and is 48K 16bit.

I doubt this will help, but whenever I have issues importing tapes, I try
something else. I double check the software's manual because
sometimes, even if I have done the same thing several times, I add
or miss something. If that does not work I close the program and restart
the computer and camcorder and try again ... with a different tape. If
that doesn't work I use a different program. I use an old HP workstation
I paid $99 for on Ebay that's running XP and I capture with Scenalyzer.
Then I copy file to a USB drive and input to Premiere. Sorry, I figure the
problem is me, not the hardware or software and it usually is me because
when the next project comes along PP usally imports fine.

Editing Workspace in Premiere Pro CS4 not working.

When I start Premiere Pro all the workspaces work except the Editing workspace, all I see is this:

Premiere Pro CS4 (Windows 7) will not (Capture or Record) connect with DV Cass Recorder

For 12 yrs I've Never had a problem w Adobe Prem Pro seeing my Panasonic AG-DV2000, DV cassette Recorder. Premiere Pro CS4 (with Windows 7 Ultimate) will not connect (Capture or Record)with my DV Cassette Recorder - Panasonic AG-DV2000. I upgraded my computer to below components & added Windows 7 at same time. Have had Adobe Prem Pro CS4 since fall with no problems. I usually have 2 - 5 videos, with 2 - 4 audios, going at same time on my timeline. (These digital videos & audios I shot myself professionally with mini DV cassettes.) Most projects are between 10 to 50 mins on timeline, w transitions or crossfades between video & audios. Firewire attached from computer to Panasonic. No Capture card in new system, not needed, use to watch over an external TV, now watch over a second monitor or in program monitor.    [Am I just missing a simple setting??]           Computer below & settings:   very up to date.

Premiere Pro CS4: Timecode issues (Scene Detect, Free Run)

Hi folks,
I am most familiar with Premiere Pro CS3. In the past, I have created multi-camera sequences that are synchronised by timecode. I have been shooting using the Free Run timecode feature across all cameras, as to maintain a sync'd timecode.
Now that I am using Premiere Pro CS4 at work, I am running into a few issues in preserving my timecode values during capture. I have recorded HDV footage using two Sony Z7's. I downconvert the HDV footage into DV upon capturing - this is so that I can use the scene-detect feature, and still supposedly preserve the timecode for each media file. I captured all of the tapes using scene-detect, and the timecode values were correct for each media file captured.
Having saved, closed, and reopened my Premiere Project the next day, the timecode values for the majority of the media files have been reset (ie, they all start at "0:00:00:00". This is very odd! Only a few of the media files have retained their correct timecode values.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could they please shed some light on this problem or quirk? Am I taking the wrong approach in capturing/organising media? I am following the same procedure as I had done in PPro CS3.
I have since deleted the Media Cache/Preview Files, requiring Premiere to re-index, and re-conform the media files. The timecode values are still incorrect. When I select all of my media files and tell them to go 'offline', the correct timecode values re-appear.

forum, but basically what I tried to do was filming a multi-camera event in free run timecode, then
captured in HDV split, and assumed I could get Premiere to align the clips accordingly. Anyone have any idea how to do this????

Premiere Pro CS4 is compatible with 32 and 64 bit windows 7.0. However, Premiere Pro CS5 is compatible with only 64 bit.
If you purchase CS5 master Collection or Production Premium CS5, you will get CS4 Premiere Pro 32 bit. It means that
Premiere Pro CS4 will work in Windows 7.0 32 or 64 bit.

Prem Pro CS 4 crashes after using Photoshop on images

Each time I change a still image from within Prem Pro CS4 using "edit Original", CS 4 crashes when I return to it.
Anyone any idea what the problem might be?
I am running Vista 64 bit with 8Gb RAM.

Sad to say, it even crashes if I close Photoshop entirely. CS4 doesn't seem to like the change in its image file and crashes as a result.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 4.1.0 update not working!files wrong size too?

when i go to download Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 4.1.0 update it says that file size is 30.5MB but when it starts downloading it it says thats the file size is 110mb and once installed it wont let me import VOB files. Has anyone got a solution?

Other users have reported having trouble with VOB files from DVD recorders. Properly authored DVDs work.

Project Presets now 'missing' following un/re-install CS4 Prem Pro

A few glitches were hampering me so, tried and tested, I uninstalled and re-installed the WHOLE CS4 Prem Pro. Now, a big handful of Project Presets are missing. I'm now using v. nice HD footage/files and want to utilize their size and defenition. What's happened to my missing Project Presets please? Using PC with 64-Bit Windows Home 7.

Adobe Dynamic Link will not work - Premiere Pro CS4 to After Effects CS4

I am edited a video with a deadline, I'm importing a sequence from Premiere Pro CS4 to After Effects and making edits in After Effects. I'm able to import the Premiere Pro sequence into After Effects using Dynamic Link, but I go back to Premiere Pro and nothing has changed. Then I have to export the 21 minute long video in After Effects and that takes about 12 hours, that I can't afford. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, before I imported the timeline into AE, while I was in Premiere Pro I right clicked it and selected -Edit original. It took me to the .mov that I imported- since it's a redo. I learned how to use Dynamic Link from this tutorial-

At first when Dynamic link didn't work I thought it was because I was cutting the imported Sequence from Premiere Pro in After Effects becasue I was motion tracking. When you import a Premier Pro sequence can you cut it into individual layers in After Effects?

That doesn't create the type of Link you want here. In this case, changes made to PP would show up in AE. You want the reverse. (And you can only go one way, not both.)
