PremEles, DV Cam as A/D Converter Without Cassette Present

I'm using my DV camera as an A/D converter while importing VHS recorded material into a computer - composite (red, white, yellow) cables then straight into the computer via a Firewire cable.
The trouble with PremiereElements 4 is that it refuses to run without a cassette in the camera - a cassette that in this case is entirely unnecessary.
It's VHS =three core cable= DVCamera =Firewire= Vista computer.
So I've had to 'downgrade' to Windows Movie Maker that is less petulant about a cassette being present in the DVCam's drive bay.
Is there a workaround that anyone knows of - so that PremEles4 can do all the work? TIA.

No luck. In PremEles4 under Edit, Preferences, Device Control, DV/HDV device, Preroll 2 secs, Time offset 0 secs - I chose Options with PAL, Panasonic, Standard, and Timecode Format at Non-drop Frame the tick isn't alterable. The device is seen as Online.
Back a bit at Capture, Report capture on dropped wasn't, and still isn't, ticked. Report dropped frames had a tick in it.
I've tried a few options there in capture but F5 Capture still reports Tape ejected. Any attempt to red-button record reports 'Stopped'. :(

Oh ... well i thought i could try since in the storage it shows that there are about 5.2 GB in the camera roll and that they are still present somehow , but seems like i cant

Hmmm... I got the DNG Converter and ACR from the page I listed.
If you go to the DNG page at http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ and click on Downloads (in the light gray box on the upper right) for Mac or Windows (I'll use the Windows example here because I'm on a PC right now, but it also worked from my Mac) you will go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3894 and then you have to click on Proceed to download and it should say filename DNG_Camera)Raw_4_4.zip and be 5.4 meg in size (If you follow the Macintosh link the filename is DNG_Camera_Raw_4_4.dmg and is 12.5MB).
However, if you go to the Camera Raw page at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html and click on the download links under the main gray box you will only get the Camera Raw file (filename is Camera_Raw_4_4.zip at 3.3MB or Camera_Raw_4_4.DMG at 7.8MB).
Both download places list the Product name as Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter. But the filenames are different and indicate which one you are downloading.

Is there any way to interface an IEEE 1394 camera to LabVIEW 8.0 without buying the new vision software package? We upgraded to LabVIEW 8.0 to use a new NI Digital I/O device, but we do not have the budget to upgrade the camera driver for 8.0? Is there any other way to interface an IEEE 1394 camera to LabVIEW?

I think this is possible if there is an SDK delivered with your camera or
you use the Windows 1394 video driver for handling this.

Lorna, to answer your questions:
Keynote's capabilities are not identical to PowerPoint's -- as I understand it, there are a few things that Keynote can't do in terms of actual presenting. That said, Keynote's graphic features far outstrip those of PowerPoint, and if your goal is to put a presentation on the Web, then Keynote is an excellent choice.
If you put a movie exported from Keynote up on YouTube, then yes, it will be playable by anyone (YouTube takes care of that). If you put a movie up for download, then things are a little more complicated, as not all Windows users may have QuickTime on their machine, so you will need to use a format that is more universal (such as MPEG-2).
PowerPoint charts and graphs should come in OK, but it is well worth the time re-creating such using Keynote's native tools, as the results will be much more satisfactory. There are some limitations in terms of the kind of graphs that Keynote can do, but the types that it can look stunning.
You can certainly have your friend limit his font choices to those you also have, but that will likely give you the standard boring Windows-compatible set (Arial, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS). I would suggest that instead you take a look at the fonts that are used in some of the Apple-provided Keynote templates, as they may give you some inspiration as to how nice good typography can look. It is relatively easy to change the fonts in a presentation.

Did you try Help>Updates from within photoshop cs5 to get the camera raw 6.7 camera raw plugin?

Camera Raw and DNG Converter for PSE10 and PS CS5.5

I recently bought a Nikon D5200. I have Photoshop CS5.5 at home and PS Elements 10 at work. I had to download a DNG coverter in order to open my RAW files (NEF). I have 2 questions: 1) Which are the latest updates that will work with each of these programs (the listings on the Adobe Download pages are confusing) and 2) Do any of these updates allow a new NEF file to be opened directly without the extra step of DNG conversion? Bit of a pain.

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD: 1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD: 1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
SD: 720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder. FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60. That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported. FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.
